Introduction:
Telling Lies is a FMV (Full Motion Video) game. The game takes places on a computer screen, where you have to search for videos and recorded video calls on a stolen hard drive to piece together what happened to the people in them. You do this by searching for words spoken in the videos, which you can then view.
The trophies in Telling Lies are all simple and quick to earn. My suggestion would be to play the game naturally, watch the videos and enjoy the story, only keeping Animal Logic
in mind at 3AM. This is the only missable trophy, and once you've passed this point, you can continue playing at your own pace and clean up any missing trophies by the end of the game. Even if you do miss it, you can start a new game and reach 3AM again quickly.
However, it is also possible to unlock all the trophies much more quickly by only opening the videos so they count as played, without technically watching them. The Walkthrough and trophy descriptions are written with both of these approaches in mind, as any missing videos in a full playthrough can be easily accessed by checking Full Upload
.
Walkthrough:
Step One: Watch videos up until 3AM.
The game takes place over one night, between midnight and 5:30AM. Watching videos on the computer will advance the time. The time advances the same amount regardless of how much of a video you watch, or if you spend time rewinding or tagging videos.
After reaching 3AM, you will have earned the following trophies:
Hey
All work and no play
Nocturnal animals
Step Two: Don't miss the cat!
After passing 3AM and unlocking Nocturnal animals
, a cat will jump across the in-game keyboard, writing random characters in the RETINA searchbox. Clicking search after this will unlock the game's only missable trophy, Animal Logic
.
Step Three: Keep watching videos, uploading them when prompted.
Once you've watched enough videos to reach 5:30AM, you'll see a prompt on the in-game screen to upload the videos you've watched through the Jane the Ripper program. Doing this will unlock Sunrise
regardless of how many videos you've watched. The game will then show the credits, a post-game scene, and return to the main menu. From here you can see a Report about the videos you've watched, as well as a Continue option which returns you to 5:37AM, allowing you to search for more videos. From here you can find and view any videos you've missed, and submit them again.
At the end of this step you will have earned the following trophies:
You're a vampire
Time is running out
Full Upload
Sunrise
Step Four: Clean-up of miscellaneous trophies.
This is where you can earn any trophies you've missed. You can unlock these at any time, but they're not required parts of the core gameplay so you might have missed them. Once you've finished all of them you'll unlock the platinum trophy:
Pointless Game
Missing King
Organizer
Librarian
Taking out the trash
Hypertextual
All Done
