Road Map:
Introduction:
Tales of Vesperia is the first installment of the Tales of-series on PlayStation 3 and is a port of the Xbox360 version which was released one year prior in Japan. Unlike its successor Tales of Graces f, the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia was never released in English. The PS3 version has many extras added like playable Flynn and another new playable character, a new secret dungeon in the postgame, new side quests, new locations etc., and thus making a playthrough on PS3 a whole different experience than on the Xbox360.
People who have played the Xbox360 version know what to expect from this game. The trophies are almost the same as the achievements with a few added and of course beautiful stamp images instead those lame numbered cup images. Two new secret missions await the player and (probably the best change) all of them are not missable anymore as you can refight bosses on Nam Cobanda Island later during a playthrough. Since there are many things added in the PS3 version, guides for the Xbox360 version can give you a rough help for playing through the PS3 version, but they are of course not adjusted. This is important to know when aiming for a complete Monster Book and Collector's Book.
People who haven't played the Xbox360 version can of course play the PS3 version, since it is not required to play the Xbox360 version, however doing this gives you knowledge of the gameplay, which will reduce the total time to , and a picture of the main story, especially if you do not speak Japanese. However, this is still a long (but fun)
, so when you try to achieve all trophies, expect to spend 150+ hours. There are many missable side quests and events required for earning all titles, getting all items and all information about monsters (represented by completing Collector's Book and Monster Book), so you can easily get screwed by advancing too many story events. However, you can use the Grade Shop for an EX New Game, where you can choose to inherit your progress in both books, so you can then just focus on the things you missed before.
And as if collecting all titles and completing both data books is not enough for , you also have to do a speed run of the game. At least there is a new function now to skip dialogues, so it is not as tedious as it was in the Xbox360 version. Furthermore, you have to train all characters to their maximum level. Doing miscellaneous things such as travelling 50,000 km or holding 10 million gald concludes the trophy set. Once you earned all trophies for Tales of Vesperia, you have truly mastered the game, so the title for the
could not be more appropriate.
Note:
To not oversize this thread, I have decided to do an Appendix for this game. This appendix is for all the extra information like controls and translation for things, for which I think you need these to earn the . Players who can read Japanese probably do not need all information found there but it is nice to know anyway, but you can also find necessary information about for example recipes and grade shop there, since I personally like to have the trophy guide and road map short and not oversized.
As you probably already noticed, completing the Monster Book and the Collector's Book are the hardest task to do for earning the (besides earning all titles). To make things easier for you in completing these, I have marked enemies and items within the trophy guide and road map with their number from the books. You can differ them easily, since entries of the Monster Book have three digits, for example #001, while entries of the Collector's Book have four digits, for example #0001.
Walkthrough:
There are trophies for finishing the game within 15 hours and finishing the first part being below level 15. These trophies are impossible in your first playthrough, so do not try to attempt them at once. With the Grade Shop in New Game+, you have many options to select from (like half experience points or double experience points earned from battles). Of course the hard trophies are completing Collector's Book and Monster Book, as well as earning all titles. These trophies should all be earned in one playthrough to minimize your game work and time for , although it is possible to complete the game over the span of multiple playthroughs using the Grade Shop options. There are different ways of attempting this
though. These are your options:
- You can do a normal playthrough ignoring the completion and earning enough grade for the important aspects of the Grade Shop for New Game+ like 99 items or double gald. Your second playthrough will be the completion run. After doing this, you can decide whether you want to finish the Low Level Challenger run first or the speed run. You could even do speed run and low level run before doing the completion run, if you like to do things unconventionally.
- You do the completion playthrough first. After this, you will probably only missing viewing all skits, getting to level 200, the low level run and the speed run. You can continue with the low level run and then the speed run with 10x experience from the grade shop and the full skit list unlocked.
If you choose the first option, you can have 99 items for your completion run, so you do not have to worry about running short of ???????(Magic Lens; #0041) for your Monster Book. While it is definitely possible to complete it with only 15 items available, it surely does not hurt to have a larger inventory.
Step 1: First Playthrough Without Completing Monster Book and Collector's Book
Skip this step completely, if you want to do the completion run first.
I recommend playing the game once without having to worry about completion, so you can enjoy the story. You should play in Normal difficulty, since playing in Easy difficulty gives you no grade (grade is important for the next step). Once you have finished the game, start grinding grade for the Grade Shop. See the Appendix for more details on the Grade Shop options and for a good grade grinding method. Do not forget to check your current grade with the cow kid in ????(Nam Cobanda Island). If you have enough grade for all the options you want for your completion playthrough, continue with the next step.
In ???? ??????(Caer Bocram), you have to enter a password to proceed. The password is ????, which is the Japanese word for sun. The location of the Japanese characters are ?(first row, fourth column); ?(second row, first column); ?(third row, third column from right); ?(third row, first column).
During Step 1 you will earn these trophies:
?????????(Defeated 1,000 Enemies)
?????????????????(Landed First Fatal Strike)
???????????(Recovered the Aque Blastia)
???????????(Ended Alexei's Ambitions)
??????(Defeated the Adephagos)
And some of the trophies listed under Step 2, depending on what you do during your first playthrough.
Step 2: Second Playthrough With Completing Monster Book and Collector's Book
Very important note: Never sell anything. Absolutely never. You need many items for synthesis and since there are a lot of items that are exclusively obtained through synthesis, you might miss your only chance to get them and thus screw up your Collector's Book progress.
Step 2 of the road map is the completion run, where most of the time for your will be spent. If you have followed Step 1, you can use the Grade Shop if you choose EX New Game from the main menu. These are the options you should use for this playthrough:
- ?????????99?(Max 99 Items)
- ???????(Items)
- ??????(Carry over gald)
- ?????(Titles)
- ??????????(Collector's Book)
- ??????????(Enemy Book)
- ????????(Recipes)
- ????????(Cooking Skill)
- ??????????(World Map)
- ????????(Craft Skill)
- ???????(Records)
- ?????(Artes)
- ??????(Skills)
- ??????(Increase Max HP)
- ??????(Increase Max TP)
- ???????(2x Gald)
- ??????(Skill SP 1)
- ???????????(Increase Drop Rate)
- ?????????????(Unlock all Skits)
Regarding experience points boost, you have to choose for yourself how much of a boost you want. The two options are:
- ???????(Double Experience)
- ????????(10x Experience)
With 10x Experience, you may be too overpowered for some Secret Missions. However, since this is your completion run and you never sell anything, you can equip weak weapons or equip skills like ???????(Half Damage) or ?????????(Quarter Damage). Also, with 10x experience points, it is easier to reach level 200. Choose whichever option fits your play style.
During the playthrough, use Kouli's Side Quest FAQ for a list of side quests and missable things as you advance through the story. Use ???????(Magic Lens; #0041) on every new enemy you encounter to fill up your Monster Book. Whenever you see a save point, step on it and save. Use the list of save points and mark the ones you have used already. If you find new weapons and sub weapons, equip them to learn more skills, especially Raven, since he has a title which requires him to learn 100 skills.
There is also a cooking event, where someone of your team has to master all recipes. Use Patty and cook with her whenever you have the chance, since she is the best choice for this. Use fatal strikes often as every party member has a title for performing 100 fatal strikes. You should read every trophy description to see what the requirements are, but pay especially attention to ?????????????(Secret Mission 17) and ????????(Conquered the Labyrinth of Memories)
. The side quest FAQ mentions the events that are required for these missable trophies, but make sure you do them.
If you miss any monster or item, do not panic. Do every side quest you can and get every Monster Book entry and Collector's Book entry you can. You can use Step 4 of the road map to clean up the entries you miss. If you have finished following the side quest FAQ and miss any trophy besides ???????????(Low Level Challenger), ????????(Speed Gamer)
and the
(all three earned in step 3 and step 4), check the individual trophy description and see, whether you can do them now. If not, continue with step 3 and do these in step 4.
During Step 2 you will earn these trophies:
???????????(Achieved a 150 Combo)
??????100??????(Exceeded 100 Hours of Play Time)
???????Km (Total Travel Distance of 50,000 km)

Step 3: Low Level Challenger Playthrough
You have to finish the first part of the game being below level 15. In the Grade Shop, you have to choose the option ?????????(1/2 Experience), otherwise it is not possible to achieve the Low Level Challenger trophy. Other useful options in the Grade Shop are:
- ?????????99?(Max 99 Items)
- ???????(Items)
- ??????(Carry over gald)
- ?????(Artes)
- ??????(Skills)
- ??????(Increase Max HP)
- ??????(Increase Max TP)
- ??????(Skill SP 1)
- ????????(Fell Arms Abilities)
You can skip all cutscenes to make to process faster. This should be a given, but play the game in easy difficulty to earn minimum experience points. Also, buy as many ???????(Holy Bottle; #0020) as you can, since this is a key item during this step. Always use it and avoid any normal battles. If you have inherited the skills from the Grade Shop, you can equip Repede's skill ???????(Holy Breath) to increase the duration of a Holy Bottle.
Note, that all characters must be level 14 or below. If anyone reaches level 15, you will not get the trophy and have to restart this step.
During Step 3 you will earn these trophies:
???????????(Low Level Challenger)
Step 4: Speed Run Playthrough and Cleanup
For ????????(Speed Gamer), you have finish the game within 15 hours. Again, this is impossible without the Grade Shop. If you have skipped step 1 of the roadmap, you should use the option ?????????????(Unlock all Skits) to unlock all skits on ????(Nam Cobanda Island) for ???????(Dominate All Skits)
, if you have not gotten the trophy yet.
For the speed run, the option ????????(10x Experience) is essential. Other useful options in the Grade Shop are:
- ?????????99?(Max 99 Items)
- ???????(Items)
- ??????(Carry over gald)
- ?????(Artes)
- ??????(Skills)
- ??????(Increase Max HP)
- ??????(Increase Max TP)
- ??????(Skill SP 1)
- ????????(Fell Arms Abilities)
If you miss some missable entries in the Monster Book or in the Collector's Book, make sure to use the options ??????????(Collector's Book) and ??????????(Enemy Book).
Your current play time will be inherited to your new playthrough, no matter what you buy in the Grade Shop. The 15 hours time limit will be added to this time. For example, if you have currently played 150 hours, your goal is to finish the game before reaching 165 hours. To save time during your playthrough, you should skip all cutscenes and play in easy difficulty. Like in the Low Level Challenger run, use ???????(Holy Bottle; #0020) to avoid normal battles. Buy as many as you can in the beginning to make sure you do not run short of these. Furthermore, if you have inherited the skills from the Grade Shop, you can equip Repede's skill ???????(Holy Breath) to increase the duration of a Holy Bottle. Safe often, so that you can reload if you feel like you have messed up somewhere for example in a dungeon.
Following all the advices, you should be able to finish the playthrough within 10 hours. If you remember the sequence of story events well, you could even finish the game within 5 hours.
If you have not achieved the trophy ???200?????(Reached Level 200 With All Characters) yet, you can go to the ?????(Telescopic Graveyard), once you have finished your regular playthrough. After a few hours fighting in the lower layers, you should have reached level 200 with everyone.
During Step 4 you will earn these trophies:
????????(Speed Gamer)
TOV????(Tales of Vesperia Master)
