Introduction:
StarDrone is an unorthodox PSN Puzzle game blending pinball and physics with a little arcade touch.
In StarDrone, you will (somewhat) take control of an asteroid called Drone. Your goal is to free the galaxy from the Evil G-Noids. The game is divided in 53 levels. There are few available at the start and you will need to clear them to unlock more and more levels. Most of the trophies are easy to get but the silver and gold ones may cause you trouble due to some hard levels.
General Informations:
In StarDrone, there are 3 main level types:
- Collect stuff (stars, gems, or Equilibrix (Big Star) parts)
- Destroy all enemies
- Head to the finish line
Controls:
In this game you can't really control your Drone. At the start of a level you can only choose the direction where you want to launch the Drone. It will then strictly follow this direction unless you activate (by pressing/holding for the DS3 controller or for the Move controller) triangle devices called beacons. When activated, your Drone will launch some sort of grapple-hook on them and it will affect its path. This is the main mechanism of the game so physics will take an important role in this game.
Comet Rush Mode:
In order to destroy enemies, you have to be in comet rush mode (except for G-Noids Mines and Turrets). To enter comet rush mode, you have to light up enough stars to fill completely the bar appearing when you light one.
Once in comet rush mode, your asteroid will have spikes on it and a light orange glow. You will then be able to destroy enemies and obstacles without harm and in a single hit (except for G-Noids Turrets). Beware though that the comet rush mode is time-limited and you will have to light stars to stay in this mode.
Power-ups:
There are three power-ups in this game that will make your journey easier: Magnet, Berserk and Invisibility. At the game main menu, search in the 'How to play' section to see what the power-ups look like. Their effects are temporary but really useful.
- The Invisibilty power-up will make your Drone invisible. Once you are invisible, enemies won't be able to track you (Creepers, Turrets rockets). But they can still hurt you.
- The Magnet power-up will create a purple-glowing field around your Drone. With this power-up, you can collect stuff way more easily.
- The Berserk power-up will turn your Drone red. If you are near enemies while in this state, your Drone will automatically rush on them and destroy them. You can keep your Drone from dashing by attracting the Drone with a beacon.
Anyway, while in this state, you can't collect stuff.
Walkthrough:
Step 1: Warm-up to mid-game playthrough
At the game main menu, you should take a look at the 'How to play' section to get a general overview of the game. When done, go to 'Play the game'. The first game levels are really easy and are there to let you learn the game basics. You can skip levels but I suggest you to play them chronologically since they are not very hard. After completing the first half of the game levels, you should have earned most of the trophies.
The 'New Hope', 'Passed 10 levels', 'Passed 20 levels!' trophies can't be missed. You should also unlock 'First Blood!', 'Rocket Kill!', 'Epic Fail!' (unless you are very good at this game on your first playthrough) without looking at the trophy guide.
Step 2: Mid-game to Near-end playthrough
The other half of the game levels are harder to complete so if you struggle too much on some, you can skip them (Press , (level select) and choose the next one). After this step, you should unlock the 'Passed 30 levels!' and 'Passed 40 levels!' trophies.
Step 3: Game Finished & Medalist trophies
These are the hardest trophies of the game and can be earned at the same time because some levels are really hard to complete (especially the last level). If you've skipped some levels before, go back to play them and keep trying.
Step 4: Clean up
Did you miss some trophies? Now is your time to get them. Besides 'Game Finished', and 'Medalist', the trophies are really easy to get.
Closing notes:
This game is interesting and the physics part is pretty original. It might get repetitive after a while though. If you want to share tips, strategies, complaints, etc. feel free to comment. If you have really important remarks about this guide (e.g. better way to get a trophy), and I didn't reply on this thread, send me a private message.
Thank you for reading and have fun!
