Introduction:

The Chaos Emeralds are giving off a reading in an area known as the Starfall Islands. We're not sure what to expect when we get there, but we know we can't let them fall into the wrong hands. Time to set off on an adventure!

Sonic Frontiers is a platformer where you explore various areas on the Starfall Islands as you discover the secrets behind the Ancients who once dwelled there and try to rescue Sonic's friends. The game has open zones where you are free to roam around and explore in order to find items that will progress your adventure and items that will make Sonic stronger. There are also Cyber Space stages which are stages similar to those found in previous modern sonic games where you must make your way to a goal. The game is very fun, and features rewarding exploration along with very easy-to-pick-up combat. In terms of trophies, the game does not take long to platinum nor is it very difficult. You only need to complete certain tasks to reach the platinum rather than find everything in the open zone.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete the main story

For this step, I recommend just playing the game normally and enjoying the story. Explore at your own pace which will nab you some extra skills points, seeds, etc. to power up Sonic. If you just want the platinum, you can focus solely on the story although there are points where you need to collect memory tokens to proceed which are scattered throughout the islands, so some exploring will be required either way. I also highly recommend saving purple coins when you find them, and also making sure to collect as many stars as you can during a starfall so you can gain even more purple tokens. This will greatly benefit you on the next step.

Step 2: Max out Sonic's attributes & Land all catches at the Southern Fishing Spot

This step will have you getting ready to breeze through the rest of the game and trophy list. If you have completed the story, you can re-load your last save to put you right before you fight the final boss. If you saved your purple coins like I recommended then you will be all set for this step. You should still be on Ouranos Island at this point, so now you are going to locate a fishing spot on this island. It is called the Southern Fishing Spot. There's one portal to it in the southeast corner of the map, and another near the southwest corner of the map. You can look in the trophy guide for a map of the island under Ouranos Island Explorer trophy_bronze.png. You are now going to use your gathered purple coins to fish with Big the Cat to collect fish tokens. Fish tokens can be exchanged for all kinds of items such as rings, skill points, and even upgrade items. You can use this to avoid having to search for power seeds, defense seeds, and Koco. You can buy a large amount at the token exchange then go to the Elder Koco and Hermit Koco to exchange them for upgrades. You will need 2000 Koco to max Sonic's speed, another 2000 Koco to max Sonic's ring capacity, approximately 300 power seeds to max Sonic's power, and approximately 300 defense seeds to max Sonic's defense. If you are struggling to buy Koco for some reason (you shouldn't, but just to cover all the bases), you can max out either Sonic's speed or ring capacity at Elder Koco to obtain 1 of the 2 trophies, then go to Hermit Koco to move the points over to the attribute you did not put points into for the other trophy. This cannot be done for power and defense, so you will need the proper amount of each seed to max the power and defense attibutes. After you have done all of this, go ahead and start using fish tokens on skill shards to obtain enough skill points to learn all skills.

Step 3: Cleanup each island

Now that you have a maxed out Sonic, you should easily be able to tackle anything that stands in your way in the open zones. Start at whichever island you would like, then go ahead and complete all challenges, complete all side stories, defeat all guardians types, and unlock all portals to obtain the remaining trophies. I suggest starting with the challenges to reveal all of the map and unlock fast travel between portals while defeating any new guardian types you see along the way. Once you reveal all of the map, clean up any remaining guardian types to get the rest of the portal gears for the island so you can access all of the portals. Since you have completed the story, you should have just about enough memory tokens to view all of the side story events (you may need a few extra depending on the island), so do this as well after or between any of the trophies on this step. Once you have done all of this, you should be finished and have your platinum trophy.

  • Viewed all Side Stories.

Side stories are small events that reveal more background lore about the Starfall Islands and the Ancients who once lived there. They are marked on the map by the character icons (the icon for Amy/Knuckles/Tails/Sage) and can only be viewed after collecting enough memory tokens. After completing an island, you should almost have enough memory tokens to view all of the remaining events (Depending on the island you could need about 20-30 extra). If you don't want to explore for them, you can trade fish tokens for memory tokens with Big the Cat. This trophy can be easily done after completing all challenges since this will reveal all of the map and allow you to easily find and mark the side stories. After viewing all side stories on an island, you will receive the associated trophy. You will receive this trophy once you have viewed all side stories in the game.
  • Completed all Challenges on Kronos Island and fully revealed the map.

Challenges are marked by a red icon with a symbol that looks like a question mark (The same one seen in the trophy icon). Challenges are small puzzles/tasks you must complete in order to reveal more of the map of the current island, and also create rails to travel easier around the map. Usually by finding challenges, and revealing the map, you will in turn find more challenges to reveal more of the map. If the map is incomplete, and no challenges appear on the map, look around the unexplored sections of the map to find the challenges you are missing. Thankfully, they have nicely sized markers in the open zone that are easy to spot when you are close, so this should not be too difficult. Be aware that some challenges can only be done at night. This is indicated by an icon with a moon and star next to the challenge.

  • Unlocked all Skills.

As you defeat enemies and progress the story, you will unlock skills that grant Sonic new combat abilities. If you are exploring and defeating the majority of enemies, then you will make a large amount of progress in this. I highly recommend getting the Air Trick skill as soon as possible because it is a great way to accumulate skill shards and get skill points quickly. There are 15 skills in total (12 unlock via skill points, 3 unlocked via story). If you would like, you can use purple coins to fish with Big the Cat and obtain fish tokens to exchange for skill shards. I recommend doing this after you max out all of Sonic's attributes since that takes a lot more time than this. It should take a total of approximately 224 skill points to obtain all skills.
  • Activated a Power Boost for the first time.

Power Boost is activated any time you have collected 400 rings in the open zone. When you have Power Boost, Sonic boosts faster and has a small electric discharge around his body. Collect rings as you explore, and avoid getting hurt, and you will obtain this easily. You'll likely obtain this naturally as you play through the story.
  • Performed a Phantom Rush for the first time, outside of the training simulator.

Phantom Rush is unlocked in the skill tree after you acquire 3 skill points. It is performed once you have filled the combo meter enough by hitting enemies enough within a specific amount of time. When the meter is full, Sonic will unleash a flurry of hits on the enemy during his next attack that will deal high damage. You will likely do this naturally since Phantom Rush is a key component to dealing large damage to enemies.
  • Performed Phantom Rush 50 times, outside of the training simulator.

Please refer to Combo Convert trophy_bronze.png
  • Gathered 200 Koco.

As you explore the Starfall Islands, you will encounter Koco randomly throughout the world. Koco are the mysterious, little creatures found on the islands that seem to have some connection with the Ancients. They tend to gather around key locations like Challenges, Portals, Chaos Emeralds, etc. You can gather them by simply walking over them. Once you have collected enough, they can be brought to Elder Koco to increase Sonic's speed or ring capacity. Collect 200 in order to earn this trophy. This should come naturally if you are picking them up when you see them. You will need 2000 of them in order to reach max speed or ring capacity for Hearty Hedgehog trophy_bronze.png or Hypersonic Hedgehog trophy_bronze.png, or 4000 if you wish to max both speed and ring capacity together.
  • Spoke with Elder Koco for the first time.

Elder Koco is the short, round Koco found in various locations throughout the Starfall Islands. You should find him naturally as you explore. As you collect the scattered Koco, you can bring them to Elder Koco for an upgrade to your max speed and/or ring capacity. Simply speak to him for the first time to obtain this trophy.
  • Spoke with Hermit Koco for the first time.

Hermit Koco is the tall, elongated Koco found in various locations throughout the Starfall Islands. You should find him naturally as you explore. As you collect Power Seeds and Defense Seeds, you can bring them to Hermit Koco for an upgrade to your power and defense. Simply speak to him for the first time to obtain this trophy.
  • Raised Power Level to MAX.

The max level for Power is 99. You raise your power level by finding power seeds and giving them to Hermit Koco to upgrade your Power attribute. Power seeds can be found throughout the Starfall Islands such as after performing a Cycloop, inside containers, after defeating enemies, and after completing challenges. Alternatively, you can obtain power seeds by exchanging fish tokens to Big the Cat at any of his fishing spots. This is a good way to max out quickly without grinding too much, but may not be an option until near the end of the story since it requires purple coins. It will require approximately 300 seeds to max your Power Level. If you are choosing to utilize fish tokens for this, use the Southern Fishing Spot on Ouranos Island since it has the best catches for obtaining large amounts of fish tokens.
  • Raised Defense Level to MAX.

The max level for Defense is 99. You raise your defense level by finding defense seeds and giving them to Hermit Koco to upgrade your Defense attribute. Defense seeds can be found throughout the Starfall Islands such as after performing a Cycloop, inside containers, after defeating enemies, and after completing challenges. Alternatively, you can obtain defense seeds by exchanging fish tokens to Big the Cat at any of his fishing spots. This is a good way to max out quickly without grinding too much, but may not be an option until near the end of the story since it requires purple coins. It will require approximately 300 seeds to max your Defense Level. If you are choosing to utilize fish tokens for this, use the Southern Fishing Spot on Ouranos Island since it has the best catches for obtaining large amounts of fish tokens.
  • Raised Ring Level to MAX.

The max level for Ring Capacity is 99 which allows you to hold 999 rings. You raise your Ring Capacity by finding Koco and giving them to Elder Koco. You can level up once for every 20 Koco you find. Koco can be found scattered throughout the Starfall Islands. They typically hang around key spots like portals, challenges, and Chaos Emeralds althought some can be found in random locations on the islands. Alternatively, you can obtain Koco by exchanging fish tokens to Big the Cat at any of his fishing spots. This is a good way to max out quickly without grinding too much, but may not be an option until near the end of the story since it requires purple coins. It will require approximately 2000 Koco to max your Ring Capacity. If you are choosing to utilize fish tokens for this, use the Southern Fishing Spot on Ouranos Island since it has the best catches for obtaining large amounts of fish tokens.
  • Raised Speed Level to MAX.

The max level for Speed is 99. You raise your Speed by finding Koco and giving them to Elder Koco. It will require approximately 2000 Koco to max your Speed. If you are choosing to utilize fish tokens for this, use the Southern Fishing Spot on Ouranos Island since it has the best catches for obtaining large amounts of fish tokens.
  • Defeated all enemy types.

To obtain this trophy you must defeat all regular enemy types found in the open zones. Just make sure you defeat any new types you come across and you should obtain this early on the 5th island (Ouranos Island). Here are the enemies and where they can be found:

    - Banger - Has a wheel that glows red and rushes toward Sonic when attacked - Kronos Island
    - Bubble - Has multiple bubbles that regenerate when not attacked quickly enough - Kronos Island
    - Cyclone - Hovers in air and has a spinning metal plate that conducts electricity sometimes - all islands
    - Floater - An enemy that launches into the air and lets out targetable spores - Ares Island
    - Hawk - Bird looking enemy that has a handle bar near its feet - Chaos Island
    - Shell - Has a hard shell that deflects attacks - Kronos Island
    - Soldier - A standard looking enemy that has multiple forms of attacks ranging from small jabs to creating a shell around itself - all islands
    - Spring - Spring shaped enemy that will try to stomp on Sonic - Ares Island
    - Thief - Hovership looking enemy that steals Sonic's Chaos Emeralds when he gets too close - Ares Island
    - Turret - A stationary enemy that will aim at sonic, and shield itself when Sonic gets too close - Ares Island
    - Waterbug - An enemy with a large sphere of red liquid as its body that will trap Sonic and try to drown him - Ouranos Island
    - Wolf - Dog looking enemy that moves swiftly around Sonic then dashes in for an attack - Ouranos Island
  • Defeated a guardian for the first time.

Guardians are the mini boss enemies found throughout the islands. They are marked on the map by red clashing sword icons (the same one in the trophy icon). Each guardian is fought differently, with some having a unique mechanic that must be done in order to expose their weak spot. This trophy will come naturally because guardians must be defeated in order to obtain Portal Gears which are needed to access Portals in order to obtain Emerald Keys to progress the story.
  • Defeated all guardian types.

Every island has guardians that can be defeated to obtain Portal Gears. Many Guardian types are unique to specific islands while some can be seen on multiple islands. Just defeat one of each type to obtain this trophy. Here are the list of guardians and their islands:

    - Ninja - Kronos Island
    - Squid - Kronos Island
    - Asura - Kronos Island
    - Tower - Kronos Island
    - Shark - Ares Island
    - Strider - Ares Island
    - Tank - Ares Island
    - Sumo - Ares Island
    - Fortress - Chaos Island
    - Spider - Chaos Island
    - Shinobi - Chaos Island
    - Excavator - Chaos Island
    - Silver Hammer - Ouranos Island
    - Red Pillar - Ouranos Island
    - Kunoichi - Ouranos Island
    - Master Ninja - Ouranos Island
    - Caterpillar - Ouranos Island
    - Ghost - Ouranos Island
  • Destroyed 100 breakable objects.

Throughout the game you will find plenty of breakable objects such as crates, containers, etc. Many can be simply dashed through, or you can break some by sliding (press circle.png while running) or just attacking (press square.png). You will likely obtain this naturally if you are exploring since breakable objects are abundantly found throughout the islands.
  • Encountered a starfall for the first time.

A starfall is a random event that may occur during night where stars may land on the islands. You can collect these stars to start a slot machine that has a chance to reward you purple coins. 1 star is good for 1 roll on the slot machine, so collect as many as you can for more chances to win more purple coins. This will likely occur naturally since it will take time for you to explore and this isn't that rare of an occurrance. Make sure to take full advantage of these by collecting a bunch of stars so that you can try to gain massive amounts of purple coins. This will help in maxing your attributes easily later on.
  • Repaired all Portals on Kronos Island.

To obtain this trophy, you only need to repair all portals using Portal Gears. You do not need to actually complete the Cyber Space areas within them. You can find Portal Gears randomly in the open zone or you can specifcally obtain them by defeating guardians. Simply obtain enough Portal Gears to repair all portals in order to obtain this trophy. The number of portals on each island are:

    - Kronos Island - 7 portals
    - Ares Island - 7 portals
    - Chaos Island - 7 portals
    - Ouranos Island - 9 portals
  • Repaired all Portals on Ares Island.

Please refer to Kronos Island Memories trophy_silver.png
  • Repaired all Portals on Chaos Island.

Please refer to Kronos Island Memories trophy_silver.png
  • Repaired all Portals on Ouranos Island.

Please refer to Kronos Island Memories trophy_silver.png
  • Completed all Missions in one Cyber Space area.

Cyber Space areas are the stages accessed through Portals. All Cyber Space areas feature 4 missions that each reward an Emerald Vault Key along with an additional 3 Keys when all missions are completed. The missions are always the same with the amounts being the only thing that changes. The missions are:

    - Complete the level
    - Collect x rings
    - Finish the level in x
    - Find all 5 Red Star Rings

These missions aren't difficult at all and should pose no challenge once you have played an area 1-2 times.
  • Achieved Rank S time, for the first time in a Cyber Space area.

All Cyber Space areas have an S rank time that needs to be met in order to obtain an Emerald Vault Key. The times vary between areas, but are not too difficult to meet. Many of the levels feature lenient times to do this, so you may get this naturally as you play through the story. If not, areas can be replayed by pressing triangle.png at the completion screen, so you can try as many times as you would like. By replaying areas, you will become familiar with faster paths and routes that will allow you to meet the S rank time. Simply get Rank S once on any Cyber Space area to obtain this trophy.
  • Completed the fishing tutorial.

In each open zone you find a portal that leads to a fishing spot instead of a Cyber Space area. These fishing spots allow you to fish with Big the Cat to obtain useful items. You can use purple coins you have found to pay Big to borrow his fishing rod to catch a fish. He will then reward with an amount of fish tokens based on what you have caught. To obtain this trophy, simply complete the tutorial you get upon entering a fishing spot for the first time.
  • Earned 100 Purple Coins.

This should come naturally since purple coins are somewhat abundant in open zones as long as you are exploring. That and the occurance of starfalls will allow you to acquire massive amounts of purple coins easily. Make sure to save them since they are extremely useful in speeding up your platinum time and SIGNIFICANTLY reducing the grind needed to max Sonic's attributes.
  • Landed all catches at one fishing spot.

If you are using fishing spots to help max your attributes, then this will likely come naturally. Each fishing spot has specific catches that reward various amounts of fish tokens when caught. Just save up a large amount of purple coins, then pick a fishing spot on any of the islands to go for. Keep fishing at that same spot until you have landed every available catch. Personally, I recommend the Southern Fishing Spot found on Ouranos Island since it is also the best for farming fish tokens, but you can choose whichever fishing spot you would like. If needed, you can view all of your catches in the Fish-O-Pedia when at a fishing spot.
