Silence is a point and click adventure game developed by German studio Daedalic Entertainment (Deponia, The Pillars of the Earth), originally released in 2016. Is it the sequel their previous game, 2009's The Whispered World. Knowledge of that game is helpful in understanding many things in Silence, but is not strictly necessary. All you really need to know is that Silence is a fantasy dream world, and the first game starred a circus clown named Sadwick, who at the end of that game entered the real world and became a boy named Noah. Silence takes place a few years later.
Trophy-wise, this is a fairly easy platinum trophy to obtain, though you will be required to play through twice, as there is no way to unlock Sadist and Nothing can stop me! on a single save file. There are a few lengthy game-spanning trophies to watch out for – namely Sherlock Holmes, Useless but beautiful and Fine Listener – but otherwise the miscellaneous trophies are either contained to a handful of screens or don't require full replays to unlock.
GLITCH NOTE: Patch 1.01 has made Sherlock Holmes (and thus Master of Silence) impossible to obtain. As of the writing of this guide, Daedelic was still working on a patch, but have not announced a release date. Currently, the only way to obtain this game's platinum is to play an unpatched digital or disc copy – the disc was only released in Europe.
Note that while the game is broken up into chapters, it has no chapter select, and you only have one save file to work from. As you must play the game twice anyways – and trophy progress carries over between playthroughs – it's not the end of the world if you miss some of the miscellaneous trophies, but try not to. I highly recommend following Noid's walkthrough (HERE) to cut down on clean-up time.
Step 1: Play through the game, without skipping cutscenes/dialogue, collecting all deaths and as many miscellaneous trophies as possible
Play through the game and enjoy the story. Just make sure you don't touch or the touchpad or you will skip dialogue/cutscenes and void a game-spanning trophy. Feel free to use the snoopkey (
or
) as much as you want, as you will need to learn the locations of items you need to interact with and you won't have these labels during your second playthrough.
For your first playthrough, you will want to focus on obtaining all four deaths required for Sadist. There are a few trophies tied to solving puzzles (notably the three tied to the prayer mill puzzle), so use checkpoint reset to your advantage. There is also a trophy for skipping all puzzles; these can all be unlocked simultaneously via checkpoint reset, or you can save the puzzle skip trophy for Step 2. Relatedly, there are a few trophies for making one choice over another (ex: Demolition expert vs Pacifist) that you can either obtain via checkpoint reset or simply making the opposite choice during your second playthrough. It's your decision.
You will also want to focus on passing all of the balance events without failing for a game-spanning trophy.
By the end of this step, you will have earned:
Chapter 1
Shadow on the wall
To err is human...
Open up wide
Fartjokes!
Handyman
Pacifist or Demolition expert
Fire in the...nevermind
Chapter I
Chapter 2
Keep away from children
Haute cuisine
Do not feed the fish!
I didn't do it!
Summit attempt
Woooow!
The hands of a healer
Quite a buggy game
Bubblekillerfamiliy
Master of Thermodynamics
Lollipop
Where there is life, there is hope
Life is but a dream
Death is a part of life
Chapter II
Chapter 3
Sadist
Checkmate in 8 moves
Achoo!!
Shut up clown!
Fastidious clown
Artistic master
The Green, the Fat, the Ugly
Unfulfilled dreams
Mumbo Jumbo
Let the boot talk
It's nothing personal or It's not easy being green!
Like a moth in the wind
Chapter III
Ending
Mirror mirror on the wall... or Home is where the heart is
Fine Listener
Step 2: Play the game again with snoopkey disabled
Your second playthrough will be much, much faster as you can safely skip dialogue/cutscenes provided you unlocked Fine Listener in the previous step. There are also a lot of unnecessary actions you did in Step 1 for trophies that you don't need to do for this playthrough; Noid's walkthrough is wonderfully color-coordinated to tell you which actions are required and which are skippable.
Before starting a new game, go to Options – Hints and make sure all three boxes there are not checked (the picture on the left will be blank without any writing/circles on it). Then as you're playing the game, avoid pressing or
outside of the one time you are required to during the prologue/tutorial. Assuming you didn't unlock all the either/or trophies in Step 1 via checkpoint reset, make the opposite choices during this playthrough. You will also want to choose the ending you did not choose in Step 1. The only other thing to worry about is to fail the balance check minigames three times in a row to unlock that trophy. Skip all minigames.
By the end of this step, you will have unlocked:
Pacifist or Demolition expert
Nothing can stop me
Artistic fool
Done. First!
It's nothing personal or It's not easy being green!
Mirror mirror on the wall... or Home is where the heart is
Sherlock Holmes
And... Master of Silence ! Congratulations!
