Introduction:
Welcome to Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut on the Playstation. This game is an upgrade to the original Risky's Revenge on the Nintendo DS. If you are wondering, this title is the 2nd entry into the Shantae series, so be aware that this is not the beginning of Shantae's story. If you currently want to play the first game, it is only available on Game Boy Color and the Nintendo 3DS. Fortunately, this game does not require that you play the first game in order to understand the story since it contains a story that stands on its own. The only difference between the Director's Cut and the regular version of the game is that the Director's Cut comes with an unlockable mode called Magic Mode. In Magic Mode, Shantae will wear a different costume that allows her to regenerate magic quickly but also makes her take more damage. It does not have any trophies linked to it but it's a nice little addition to the Director's Cut version of the game. This game is a platformer similar to those of Mario, Sonic etc. The trophy list is not difficult, but it can be a little time consuming if you don't plan your route carefully.

34 Bonus Items throughout the game:
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut features 4 different endings. Each of these endings correspond with beating the game with different times, and having collected all 34 bonus items in the game. If you are curious, these are the 34 items that you need to collect for Endings 2 and 3:

- 17 Magic Jams scattered throughout the game
- 3 Heart Holders scattered throughout the game
- Fireball
- Spitfire
- Flamethrower
- Pike Ball
- Super Pike Ball
- Mega Pike Ball
- Storm Puff
- Crush Puff
- Mega Puff
- Attract Magic
- Magic Fill
- Silky Cream
- Super Silky Cream
- Sequin Land Map

Step 1: Play through the game while collecting all 34 bonus items
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut contains 4 different endings that each have a different requirement. Check under each respective trophy to see what that requirement is. For your first playthrough, I highly recommend just playing and enjoying the game at your own pace. Learn the layout of the land, and learn how to traverse the areas effectively. While you do this, collect all 34 bonus items and get the miscellaneous trophies out of the way. However, hold off on collecting the Heart Holders! There are 3 Heart Holders throughout the game, do not collect any of them until you reach the final save area in Sunken Cavern (The one after the side scrolling shooter part). This is because Cross Your Heart! requires that you beat the game with no Heart Holders but they are required as part of the 34 items so all you need to do is beat the game without collecting any of them, reload your save file, collect all 3 Heart Holders, and beat the game again to achieve 1 of the 2 endings that require you to collect all 34 bonus items. Also, remember to be on the lookout for those missable trophies. Depending on how fast you complete this step, there will be different ways to approach step 2.

Step 2: Reload your save file and obtain Ending 2 OR Replay the game while collecting everything under 4 hours
A) If you accomplished Step 1 UNDER 4 HOURS, you should have obtained Ending 1 and 3 if you followed my advice about the Heart Holders. This is the best possible outcome as all you need to do for this step is reload the save to easily get Ending 2. Simply reload your save file and let the game sit idle to rack up some time. After your playtime exceeds 4 hours, go ahead and make a separate save file then beat the game with all 34 bonus items to obtain Ending 2.

B) If you accomplished Step 1 OVER 4 HOURS, you have some work to do. In this case, you should have obtained Ending 1 and 2. Now, you are going to have to beat the game under 4 hours while collecting all 34 bonus items for Ending 3. I highly recommend that you follow this guide by Roto_Arel: Shantae: Risky's Revenge FAQ/Walkthrough for DS by Roto_Arel - GameFAQs since it features a complete walkthrough of the game while collecting the 34 bonus items along the way.

Step 3: Beat the game under 2 hours
At this point you should have Endings 1, 2 and 3. Now you will be going for Ending 4 which requires that you beat the entire game under 2 hours. Also, collecting all 34 bonus items is not necessary. You should have a pretty solid understanding of the game and its layout at this point, just go as fast as you can and make sure not to spend extra time in areas that don't require it.

Step 4: Clean Up
If you are missing any miscellaneous trophies such as beating the first boss with only lightning, stomping 100 enemies, electrocuting 50 enemies, etc. then now is the time to get those. You got all the endings out of the way so the rest of the game should be straightforward.

Conclusion:
Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut is a very fun game that is a must have for any platformer fan. The trophy list is not the easiest out there as it requires you to fully play through the game at least twice and some of the miscellaneous trophies can be a pain. However, the game itself is very short but also very fun. This 100% is one that you might find yourself having fun with.

13 trophies ( 9  )

  • Beat the ambush

You will receive this trophy at the beginning of the game after defeating Risky's ambush.

  • Lab 2 speed run

For this trophy, you have to complete the Hypno Tower under a certain amount of time. The Battle Tower does not count for this trophy. The exact amount of time is unknown but as a frame of reference, I beat the Hypno Tower in about 40 minutes and managed to get this trophy. I highly suggest using Roto_Arel's Shantae: Risky's Revenge Walkthrough because this dungeon can be extremely time consuming if you have not done it before. It's a very big dungeon that splits in multiple areas so it's easy to get lost or waste time going down the wrong path.

  • Own all magic and book upgrades

Magic and Book upgrades are found inside the Shop in Scuttle Town. To purchase all the upgrades, you will need 2,075 Gems and all 17 Magic Jams throughout the game. If you are going for 100% or at least Ending 2 or Ending 3, then this trophy will come naturally.

  • Seen ending 1

To obtain Ending 1 you need to complete the game over 2 hours without collecting all 34 bonus items in the game. If you are new to Shantae: Risky's Revenge, then this will probably be the first ending you receive. I suggest pairing this trophy with Cross Your Heart! Make sure to check your save files. If you make a save that has all 34 bonus items, you will not be able to obtain this trophy unless you playthrough the game again. The trophy will unlock after the credits roll and you see your Ending.

  • Seen ending 2

To obtain Ending 2, you need to complete the game over 4 hours while having collected all 34 bonus items in the game. If you follow Roto_Arel's Shantae: Risky's Revenge Walkthrough you will be able to complete the game while finding all 34 bonus items along the way, just stand around or leave the game on if you need to build up time. The game clock does not stop until you quit the game anyway. This Ending is the only one that's not missable since you can reload your save and backtrack as much as you want as you have no time constraints and no areas get closed off during the game. The trophy will unlock after the credits roll and you see your Ending.

  • Seen ending 3

Ending 3 requires you to beat the game under 4 hours while collecting all 34 bonus items. I suggest following Roto_Arel's Shantae: Risky's Revenge Walkthrough since it takes you through the game while collecting all 34 bonus items along the way. Make sure to be fast and do not waste time on unnecessary enemies. If you need money, I recommend just replaying the Battle Tower over and over until you earn enough to purchase all items in the Shop. The Battle Tower awards a massive amount of money that will easily make up for all the enemies you run past. Also, do not waste time going for items in areas that require abilities you don't have. If you see 2 items but are currently only able to get 1, then just hold off and come back when you have all necessary abilities. This saves you from having to complete some rooms more than once. The trophy will unlock after the credits roll and you see your Ending.

  • Seen ending 4

To obtain Ending 4, you need to complete the game under 2 hours without collecting all 34 bonus items. Again, I advise you to use Roto_Arel's Shantae: Risky's Revenge Walkthrough as it also features tips for speed running the game. It has an area with just the necessary information you need to effectively speed run the game. With this trophy, I highly recommend you only focus on this and nothing else. Attempting to work on other trophies during this playthrough will cost you some time that you really can't afford to spare. You can skip over cutscenes by pressing start, and make sure to skip over enemies that aren't required. I recommend investing in the Super Pike Ball or Mega Pike Ball as it can be very useful for dispatching the bosses quickly. The trophy will unlock after the credits roll and you see your Ending.

  • Beat the game with no Heart Holders

Heart Holders are items you find in chests that increase your life by 1 heart. There are a total of 3 in the game. For this trophy, you need to make sure you open none of the 3 chests that contain Heart Holders. This will make the game a little more difficult as you'll have to go the whole thing with just the standard 3 Hearts but just be careful and use your magic if you have to. I recommend investing in the Pike Ball, Super Pike Ball or Mega Pike Ball, because they are arguably the best magic items in the game and can be incredibly helpful in killing enemies quickly. Also, stock up on Health Potions from the Shop in Scuttle Town if you are having trouble.

  • Kill 100 enemies via stomp

You will receive the Stomp ability later in the game after you obtain the elephant form and progress a bit. The stomp ability is used by turning into an elephant and pressing after you jump. The best place to grind this is the first screen in Pumpkin Fields when going there from Scuttle Town. As you go left, you should notice some stone walkways above you with Medusa looking enemies on them. If you kill them and shift the screen away from the area, the enemies will immediately respawn when you move back to that area. You will often have around 4-5 Medusa enemies spawn at a time. This is a good spot to farm stomp kills.

  • Kill 50 enemies with lightning

You can purchase the Storm Puff from the Shop for 50 Gems. This is an item that uses lightning to attack enemies and is also required in order to beat the game. You will often have around 4-5 Medusa enemies spawn at a time so this is a good spot to farm lightning kills.

  • Destroy all Tinkerbats the Sunken Cavern

Tinkerbats are the little black, pirate-looking enemies that are seen around Risky. They first appear in Sunken Cavern during the side-scrolling shooter area. That is the spot where you can obtain this trophy. When you transform into a mermaid and need to shoot your way through the Sunken Cavern, you'll have to kill every Tinkerbat you see. If you fail to shoot one, just hit start and reload the area. If you forget, you can just warp back to the first Sunken Cavern warp point, the one that is before the side scrolling shooter part and access it again.

This trophy is potentially glitched in a good way. I personally unlocked this trophy while only being 1/4 way through the Sunken Cavern, there were a lot of Tinkerbat enemies to go but the trophy still unlocked for me.

  • Beat the genie clone without using potions

This trophy requires you to defeat the final boss without using any potions. This means that you are not allowed to use any Magic Potions or Health Potions during the final fight with the genie clone. However, if you use a potion during the fight with Risky Boots then you are fine since that will not count against this trophy. I suggest doing this trophy when you have all Heart Holders since the genie clone can be a little difficult. Make sure to look at her attack patterns and dodge accordingly. As her regular form (the one that looks like Shantae), she'll just run and jump around. As a monkey, she will use Monkey Bullet to dash between the side walls, but most of these can be avoided by just ducking. As an elephant, she will dash and then attempt to stomp you. Just watch closely and dodge carefully. As a mermaid, she will jump up into the air and fire a barrage of bubbles at you. This can be avoided by simply standing under her.

  • Beat Boss 1 with only electricity

To obtain this trophy, you have to defeat the Squid Baron boss with only electricity. That means that you will have to go to the Shop in Scuttle Town and buy the Storm Puff for 50 Gems. This is the earliest item you can get that uses electricity to attack. Just buy that, along with some Magic Potions, and head for the 1st dungeon in Tangled Forest. When you fight the boss, wait for him to stand still and send 1-2 storm puffs to attack. Fortunately these should also take out some of the squid minions that crawl around, just make sure not to hit the boss with regular attacks or any other magic attacks. If you beat him without unlocking the trophy, immediately reload your save because you will have to play through the game again if you proceed.
