Randal's Monday is a point and click adventure game revolving around Randal, a lazy, rather unlikeable kleptomaniac, who unwittingly curses himself by stealing an engagement ring from his friend and then pawning it. He then has to live through the same Monday over and over in a Groundhog day-like way, trying to fix what he did before the universe collapses in on itself.

The game is absolutely jam-packed with pop culture references, various cameos and amusing jokes. You could spend quite a lot of time just picking out items in the background that allude to everything from classic movies to vintage video games. The art style is very nice to look at, and the voice acting is quite good too. However, the puzzles can be a bit tricky if you don't use a walkthrough and there's a lot of backtracking which can get annoying but there’s still enough content in there to enjoy.

Trophy wise, it's a pretty straightforward list, with 11 story related trophies, 3 trophies related to using (and not using) the hint system (1 of which spans the entire game and is therefore missable) and 7 other miscellaneous missable trophies that you need to watch out for if you want to do everything in one (and a tiny bit) playthrough. In the walkthrough, I have outlined a way of getting all of the game's trophies in this manner if that's the way you want to go.

There is no autosave in this game so you need to save manually. There are 8 save slots so use them to have a few saves dotted around in case you need them, this is just good practice regardless of whether you use a guide or not. There is also no chapter select so any missed trophies will require a full playthrough or a save prior to the trophy opportunity.

Controls:

The following controls are listed for the ‘Modern’ control type. I used this since it's one action and more slick, but it’s your choice.

Open/Close inventory
Look at item
Use item/talk to character/skip dialogue
Highlight items/directions
Previous page
Next page
Fast cursor
Slow cursor
Pause game
Skip dialogue
Main menu (options/load & save)

Step 1: Play through the game at your chosen pace.

You have 2 choices here.

You can play the game at your leisure if you would like, however from a trophy hunting perspective this will significantly increase your time spent on the 100%. Firstly because you’ll need to figure everything on your own, and secondly because there are 7 missable trophies and the lack of chapter select means you'll need to replay the whole game again (up until wherever you missed a trophy).

The other, quicker way is to follow the complete walkthrough I have put together here: LINK which lists only the actions required to advance in the game as quickly as possible. You will still get a lot of the geeky references doing it this way but obviously there will be many you miss from not speaking to people who aren't necessary to speak to and from quickly moving through the environments so it's your call.

To save me writing this in every single trophy description: follow the WALKTHROUGH and you will not miss any of the trophies.

The main thing to remember on this step is not to use any hints at all. It's difficult to accidentally activate them but for reference, do not click the magnifying glass icon in the inventory. This is the start of the process that unlocks the hint system and if you do use them, then reload a previous save and you’ll still be eligible for Old school which is unlocked for completing the game without using the hint system.

Don't forget - keep using your save slots as you never know when you will need a save.

After this step you will have unlocked (but not limited to):

Day 1: A box full of junk and too much free time
Day 2: Excuse me, am I trapped in time already?
Day 3: Mortimer’s dungeon
Day 4: Officer Hicks, give me that ring
Day 5: Till the Magnumatic do us part
Day 6: 'You smoke? No thanks, I'm trying to quit
Day 7: The final barbecue
It's over
Perfectionist
Old school
Bad friend
Cursed

Step 2: Clean-up.

If you followed the walkthrough then this step will be redundant. However if you played the game through (without using hints), then you may have missed up to 7 trophies and still need to unlock and use the hint system. Get these trophies out of the way by reading the individual descriptions in the trophy guide. There is no chapter select so anything missable will need a playthrough to that point or a save prior to the trophy opportunity.

After this step you will have unlocked:

Chicken
Cat murderer
Lover of The Trilogy
Survival horror lover
Gort salutes you
Three meals a day
Brainiac
Good friend
I want no spoilers

You will now have the 100%, congratulations!

  • Unlock the hints system

Warning: Do not attempt to unlock this trophy before either making a save first or until after you have achieved Old school, because you will get locked out of that trophy and have to play through the game again.

The hints system is the same as those found in many other point and click games, if you are struggling with a certain puzzle or can't figure out how to progress, you can use a hint to find out what to do. To unlock the hint system, you need to access your inventory with then click on the magnifying glass icon. A series of prompts will ask you if you're sure and once you've accepted, the trophy will pop.

For this trophy, you will need to unlock the hint system as described above in Chicken. Once you have, scroll to the next page by clicking the right hand arrow and you will see a small paragraph basically telling you that every time you use a hint, a kitty dies. Below this is the button "kill kitty" which we now know really means "get a hint". You need to click the "kill kitty" button 20 times (get 20 hints) in order to make this trophy pop.

  • You made a complete scarecrow

Story related and cannot be missed, it comes during Day 6.

    The story location is here:

You will eventually find yourself needing to grow some plants in the prison backyard and will need to prevent the crow from eating your seeds. The way to stop him is by building a scarecrow.

If you wish to know the exact steps towards unlocking this trophy, then see below:

Before heading to the backyard to get this trophy, all you will need is the prison uniform that's in the far left hand cell in the cell area. Once you've done that and are in the backyard, build the scarecrow as follows:

    • Take sack (far left on the ground)
    • Take dry leaves (under the tree)
    • Take dry pumpkin (back left hand corner)
    • Combine sack with dry leaves in your inventory
    • Use sack full of leaves on old remains (the sticks on the left)
    • Use prison uniform on scarecrow
    • Use dry pumpkin with prisoner scarecrow
  • Beat the game without using the hints system

    MISSABLE

You will miss this trophy if you unlock the hint system at any time during your playthrough!

To get this trophy, simply complete the entire game and do not click on the magnifying glass in the inventory and follow the prompts. If you do, then you will lock yourself out of the trophy. You will know you did this if Chicken pops. The only way to enable progress towards this trophy again is to reload a save prior to using hints or complete the game all over again.

This trophy pops alongside It's over upon completing the game if you didn't use a hint. The easiest way to do this is to follow the walkthrough. Otherwise, look around as much as possible, talk with everyone and experiment with items in your inventory if you are having a hard time figuring out what to do.
