Radio Squid is a cute, 2D, 8-bit retro-style bullet hell arcade game made by Pixel Teriyaki and published by Ratalaika Games/EastAsiaSoft. In it you control a small, cute squid who takes off on an adventure. The story is somewhat vague and confusing but it seems that your squid buddy is woken up to explore a digging project they've got going on that somehow unearthed an ancient power, the Siren's Song. As you swim from room to room, you must pick up these musical notes, held within bubbles, to give you the power to shoot for a short time. In truth, the story isn't really there but honestly, it's not a big deal as it isn't the main draw. Instead, as perhaps the name and musical theme of the game alludes to, it's the soundtrack that sets this game apart, producing very interesting, up-beat music that definitely helps to elevate the game overall. All in all, it's a rather quick, easy game, with a Platinum that takes about an hour to achieve, perhaps even less.

Default controls:

Enter/Next
Deploy bomb
Move
Aim/Change shot direction

This is both an easy and difficult Platinum, all at the same time. Well, everything is quite easy thanks to the fact that, in terms of the trophies, deaths don't matter so you can revive yourself as many times as you want, as long as you have enough coins to. The only actually difficult trophies are those for the boss kills. They're not super difficult but they're certainly more challenging than any other trophies. Still, you'll probably get them without too much hassle; you might need a few tries at most but you'll get there quickly.

There's no save function but the game does give you a checkpoint when you reach the next floor.

STEP ONE — Play the game until you've killed a boss on the third floor.

There is no need for any other step. Simply play the game and complete all levels until you've defeated 3 bosses, 1 on each floor. All the trophies in the game, aside from the three boss-kill ones, are earned by or through killing enemies and picking up the coins/rewards leftover. All in all, you'll need 20 kills, 50 coins held at once (not lifetime pick-up), to pick up 5 non-coin items, use 5 bombs and to die once, all of which you'll gain in the first floor.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Don't give up
Throw the hook
Took the bait
Money Money Money
Hide and seek
Off the hook
Kaboom
Treasure hunter
Got a Bite
Mysteries of the deep
Catch of the day
Platinum Squid

12 trophies ( 11  )

  • Get all other trophies.

Congratulations! You've killed hordes of mobs, collected coins and diamonds, taken down bosses, likely died dozens of times and now you've got a shiny new Platinum to show for it!

  • Beat a boss on floor 1.

As you get into the second half of the first floor, you'll start to see more options in directions. Each direction, upper left, middle left and right sides eventually reach bosses, each one with a different attack style. To get this trophy, kill any boss on the first floor. The one I killed was a giant fish that shoots bullets in all 4 directions at once and occasionally attacks by rushing the stage going left and right. While each boss has one attack that is somewhat different, in the end, they're all generally the same thing. Shoot enough bullets at them until they die and watch out for the bosses' and your own rebounding bullets. Don't forget to use your bombs if there are too many bullets on-screen.

  • Beat a boss on floor 2.

Again, there are multiple bosses available on the second floor. Find and kill any to get this trophy (see Got a Bite). The one I did, on the top path, was a clam boss. This boss also shoots bubble and droplet-shaped bullets in all 4 directions and also switches paths from horizontal to vertical every so often.

  • Beat a boss on floor 3.

This will be the last trophy you earn before the Platinum. Like the previous two, there are multiple bosses available on the third floor. Find and kill any to get this trophy (see Got a Bite). The one I did, which was on the upper-left path, was not only the easiest boss I've faced but probably much easier than many of the normal rooms with normal enemies. It was what looks relatively like the Muk Pokemon; it looks like a slug. It shoots fireballs but only in one direction i.e. either horizontally or vertically, not both. Over all, it's a very easy fight.

Here is a video showing the path to the boss, starting from the beginning of stage 3–4, and the fight:

  • Use bombs to clear bullets 5 times.

At the top of your screen, you'll notice a Power meter with 5 levels. Each level allows you to use 1 bomb. Whenever you use your bomb, it will turn all bullets on-screen into coins. You can replenish your Power meter by killing enemies. Considering that this is essentially a bullet hell game, you'll probably be using this feature very often to save yourself. It will especially come in handy for bosses so when you're in the fourth stage of each floor, try to save your Power for the boss if you can but obviously if you're going to die, don't hesitate to press it. You can always get more.

  • Kill 10 enemies.

    See Took the bait

  • Kill 20 enemies.

Shortly into the game, you'll get your first Song-power, allowing you to shoot bullets. This power, represented in-game by a musical note symbol, is always contained in a bubble, so just move over it to pick up the ability. You'll keep this ability until you clear that section and move on to the next room, where you'll need to pick it up again.

In each room will be a handful of enemies, which you'll kill by shooting a few bullets at them. You'll easily get 20 enemies by the time you finish 1-2 (floor 1, stage 2), if not the end of stage 1

  • Have at least 30 coins on your possesion at any given time.

    See Off the hook

  • Have at least 50 coins on your possession at any time.

To get this trophy, you need to accumulate enough coins to have 50 on-hand. This is not a cumulative trophy; you need to have 50 in your inventory at any one time. There are two main ways to earn coins. 1) By killing enemies and 2) By using your bomb with (see Kaboom) which turns all bullets currently on-screen into coins. In all likelihood, you'll earn this trophy naturally as you play, and probably within the first few stages. Note: Don't forget that you can also 'kill' plants and treasure chests, which will also drop coins. However, as soon as all of the enemies die, you lose your power so make sure to destroy those before killing the last enemy.

  • Revive yourself.

    * This is spelled incorrectly in the trophy list as Don'y instead of Don't.

This trophy is for respawning after a death but specifically by using coins to do so. Every time you die, you have the option of respawning in the same place as long as you have enough coins. The cost is dependent on how much you have at that time, as it seems to take about 80-90% of your coins each time. You'll easily get this trophy naturally as you play. In fact, it was the very first trophy I got.

  • Collect 5 items that are not coins.

When you kill enemies, they generally leave behind coins. However, they do have a chance to drop other items, such as a diamond, a heart, a bubble power-up or a piece of sushi. You can also get these items by breaking open treasure chests found throughout the levels. To get this trophy, you'll need to find any 5 of these items. This is cumulative so you'll get this fairly soon; likely within the first floor.

  • Wrap around the side of the stage 10 times.

Each stage is made up of multiple rooms, most of which will have several openings. Not all of these openings are destinations. Most of these actually wrap around, meaning that for example, going through an opening on the right-hand side might have you coming into the screen from the left-hand side opening. Do that 10 times and you'll get this trophy. It doesn't have to be ten different paths; you can use the same exact path 10 times in a row and the trophy will still pop.
