Project CARS 2 is, you guessed it, the second iteration in these series of racing games made by Slightly Mad Studios, probably best known for their previous titles of Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2. Like the first one a lot of the resources used for this game came from crowdfunding and as such this game basically continues where the first Project CARS game left off. It’s largely the same only extended with more cars, more tracks and the addition of Rallycross. Project CARS aims to be a sim racer rather than an arcade racer, but would probably be best described as a simcade due to the many assists you can use as well as the AI behaviour.

Trophy wise the people who’ve played the first game will be relieved to hear that there is no trophy tied to the community events this time around. In return you’ll have to deal with a significantly larger part of online play, but luckily everything pertaining that can easily be boosted with just one other player. This platinum is fairly easy even for people who aren’t experienced with racing games and the game can be enjoyed by both novice and hardcore racers, because you can use the settings to make things as easy or hard as you desire. To get all the trophies the following steps can be done in any particular order, but in the career you will want to start at the bottom tier (Tier 6), or else you'll have to start over with a new career later.

Step 1: Career Playthrough

The Zero to Hero trophy is back again so you’ll want to start your career in the lowest Tier (Tier 6) and work your way up all the way to Tier 1. The good thing is that this time you don’t have to do it within a set amount of time, so you can progress in any way you like as long as you started in Tier 6 and go on to win a championship in Tier 1.

I advise switching rows in the career board when choosing your next championship, because each of the 5 rows is considered a different discipline and you’ll need to win at least once in each of these disciplines to get the Diversity trophy. While doing this keep an eye on the specific championships you’ll need to win for the Triple Crown trophy, being the Formula X (Tier 2), the Endurance Series for Le Mans (Tier 1) and the Indycar series in Tier 1. Also keep in mind you’ll have to complete and win at least one Rallycross championship and you’ll have to fulfil 4 of the 7 lifetime goals for the Hall of Fame trophy.

As you go through your career simply keep winning championships to unlock invitational events and accolades, while also building up brand loyalty towards the brands you’re racing with. In total you’ll need to complete at least 10 invitational events, become a brand advocate for at least 3 manufacturers and complete all of their events, and obtain 50 accolades.

At the end of this step you’ll have obtained, at the bare minimum, these trophies;

  • This Is The Start
  • I'm Seasoned
  • Get That Dirt Off Your Shoulder
  • Best Indy World
  • Invite Only
  • Mr Popular
  • Accoladed
  • Advanced Experience
  • Hunting For Grip
  • No Man's Fly
  • Diversity
  • Gimme 50!
  • Zero to Hero
  • Twice At The Top
  • Jack Of All Trades
  • National Pride
  • Triple Crown
  • Hall of Fame
  • Factory Driver
  • Cream Of The Crop
  • Brand Advocate
  • Two Affinity And Beyond
  • Rest On Your Laurels

Step 2: Online

After your career, you’ll have to delve into the online portion of the game. Basically, the trophies just consist of racing a lot of (clean) races and a few miscellaneous ones. You’ll need to complete a grand total of 350 public races online for all the license trophies and you can’t really afford to collide or even get off track if you want to improve your safety grade for the Safety First trophy. For these reasons you’ll probably want to find a boosting partner to set up short races on oval tracks and make sure all of them are clean. Other than that there are some miscellaneous trophies you’ll have to obtain online, such as watching a race in the director mode and downloading a setup from a friend. For these trophies please refer to the trophy guide below.

At the end of this step you’ll have obtained, at the bare minimum, these trophies;

  • Results Are In, You're Clean!
  • Done One Online
  • Raving Rookie
  • No Longer a Rookie
  • Definitely Not a Rookie
  • I'm a Pro
  • Seen It All
  • What's Yours Is Mine
  • I'm Just Here To Watch
  • The Director
  • Safety First
  • I Want To Know Your Secret

Step 3: Miscellanneous

Now it’s time to mop up the trophies that you haven’t obtained in the previous steps. Most of these require you to race a track in under a certain time, in a certain car or under certain circumstances, while the rest of them are as easy as taking a photo or changing a setup. Please refer to the trophy guide below for an explanation on each of these.

At the end of this step you’ll have obtained, at the bare minimum, these trophies;

  • Winter Soldier
  • All Year Round
  • The Milk Man
  • Viva Ferrari
  • Car Zero
  • Straight Six
  • Snap Snap Snap
  • Strategic Mind
  • One-Man Show
  • Manual All The Way
  • May I Ask You Something

  • Completed the first season

You will earn this trophy after completing your first season in Career mode, no matter your final place. When starting your career you can choose any championship from Tier 6 to Tier 3, though if you want the Zero to Hero trophy you'll need to start your career in Tier 6. Furthermore, you should start with the Ginetta Juniors championship to make the Diversity trophy easier, as this championship counts for the GT category.

  • Successfully completed a Rallycross season

Rallycross is available in Tier 4 and higher, it's the Purple path in the picture below. Complete any of these championships through your career to get this trophy.

In Rallycross, your opponents always seem to match or do better than you even on the lowest of difficulty settings. If you're having trouble with this, go to options and turn off the rules and regulations. Now use this to your advantage to cut corners and easily beat the AI.

  • Became an Indycar Champion

Indycar is only available in Tier 1. Make sure to pick this championship and win it to get the trophy. This championship also contains the Indy 500 race required for Triple Crown , so make sure to win this race.

  • Unlocked your first Career Invitational Event

You will get many Invitational Events through your career by winning different championships but some of them will require special actions to be unlocked. Unlocking just one will net you this trophy. Please refer to Mr Popular to see how to unlock all the Invitational Events.

  • Completed 10 Career Invitational Events

Invitational Events will unlock through your career if you complete the requirements. The majority of them are unlocked by winning championships but others will require specific actions. There are 43 Events split into 5 categories, but you only need to complete 10 of them for the trophy. However they can help to get Gimme 50! faster as winning an Invitational Event will net you an accolade and it's much shorter than winning a whole championship.

Press to switch in Invitational Events and you will be able to see what to do to unlock them.

  • Earned your first Career Accolade

Please refer to Gimme 50! .

  • Drove a clean lap around the Nordschleife in the snow, in less than 8 minutes

You can earn this trophy in Quick Play, Custom Race. You need to finish a clean lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with snow conditions in under 8 minutes. Clean lap means that you cannot touch anything or go off track or it will invalidate your time.

To make this easier, go to Options, Gameplay before the race and use these settings:

    Steering Assistance: Yes
    Braking Assistance: No
    Driving Assists: Full
    Anti-Lock Brakes: High
    Stability Control: On
    Traction Control: High
    Damage Type: Off
    Mechanical Failures: No
    Tyre Wear: Off
    Fuel Usage: Off
    Auto Start Engine: Yes
    Rules & Penalties: Off
    Manual Pit Stop: Yes
    Pit Stop Cinematic Cameras: On
    Manual Cooldown Lap: Off
    Manual Rolling Start: No

Press to switch to Onscreen Guides & Display menu

Now go in Quick Play, Custom Race, and choose:

    Car: “Formula X” from SMS
    Track: Nürburgring Nordschleife
    Weather: Snow
    Season: Summer
    Opponents: 0

It seems this trophy will only pop if you set the season to Winter with the 2.00 patch.

8 minutes is more than enough to finish a lap so just drive carefully and make sure not to touch anything or go off track and you should be good.

  • Completed an event in a Mercedes car at the Mercedes-Benz Driving Events Ice Track 2

This can be done in Quick Play, Custom Race. Choose the Mercedes-Benz Ice Track and select the Ice Track 2. Now choose any Mercedes car and set the event to 1 round and no opponents.

It can be a pain to drive in snow but you simply have to finish a lap to complete this event and earn the trophy.

  • Drove a clean lap around Fuji in Storm conditions, in a time less than 2 minutes

You can earn this trophy in Quick Play, Custom Race. You need to finish a clean lap on Fuji GP with Storm conditions in under 2 minutes. Clean lap means that you cannot touch anything or go off track or as this will invalidate your time.

To make it easier, go in Options, Gameplay before the race and put these settings:

    Steering Assistance: Yes
    Braking Assistance: No
    Driving Assists: Full
    Anti-Lock Brakes: High
    Stability Control: On
    Traction Control: High
    Damage Type: Off

    Opponent Names: Multiplayer Only
    Race Engineer: Always
    Spotter: Always

Now go in Quick Play, Custom Race, and choose:

    Car: “Formula X” from SMS
    Track: Fuji GP
    Weather: Storm
    Season: Summer
    Opponents: 0

It will rain and there will be water on the track, which will make controlling your car a bit harder. Finishing a lap in under 2 minutes is not that hard but it will take a bit of practice. Make sure to not touch a wall or go off track or it will invalidate your time.

  • Did a Rallycross jump longer than 20 metres

This trophy seems to be tricky to unlock. For some people it will only unlock in career mode and for others it will pop in a custom event. Attempt this trophy during your career first and if you haven't obtained it when you're done with your career, go try it in custom races.

You have to be in a Rallycross event and drive a Rallycross car. Daytona International Speedway Rallycross and Lankebaden Rallycross are the best tracks to attempt this trophy as they have ramps to do it. Make sure to have enough speed before jumping and you should easily jump 20 meters or further.

  • Completed a race around a single circuit in all 4 seasons

This can be done in Custom Races. You will need to complete a race on the same track in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. You can change the season in Race Settings and the order in which you do this doesn't matter, but the track has to be the same. Choose a fast track and a fast car and set the race to one lap without opponents and complete it 4 times to get this trophy.

You can pair this trophy with Viva Ferrari to save some time. Simply choose Imola and when you're changing season, change your car as well but make sure to pick 4 different Ferraris.

  • Completed a Championship in every Motorsport discipline within Career

As seen in the picture below there are 5 different disciplines in career mode. Open-wheels, Prototypes, GT, Touring and Rallycross. You will have to win one championship in each discipline to earn this trophy. Ginetta Juniors count for the GT discipline so if you start with this one you can have the trophy when finishing Tier 2.

If for some reason you don't have the trophy when you reach Tier 1, don't worry as all the championships will be unlocked after winning a Tier 1 championship. You'll have to earn 2 different championships in Tier 1 for another trophy anyway so make sure to not always stay in the same discipline and you should obtain this trophy naturally.

    You could for example choose, Ginetta Juniors (Tier 6) -> Clio Cup (Tier 5) -> RallyCross (Tier 4) -> LMP3 (Tier 3) -> Formula X (Tier 2).

  • Won a full distance (200 Laps) Indy 500 race

You can attempt this trophy in Career or in Custom Race. In career you'll do this race in the Indycar championship in Tier 1, make sure to set to full distance (200 laps) though.

It will take you a bit more than 2 hours to win the race, but fortunately you don't have to drive and instead have the AI drive for you. It's best to attempt this in a Custom Race as you can set the number of opponents to 0.

While driving, open the menu with and select Race Strategy, Change Pilot -> Yes. Now return to the last menu and ask for a pit stop. Go in the pits and the AI driver will take your place. Now you just have to wait until the end of the race and you'll get the trophy.

  • Drove 4 Ferrari cars, around Imola

You can pair this trophy with All Year Round to save some time, change the season while changing your car and you will have both trophies.

In Custom Race select the Imola track and a Ferrari car. You can set the race to 1 lap and 0 opponents to make it quicker. Finish your race and when you're back at the menu, select another Ferrari and do the race again. Do that with 4 different Ferraris.

  • Raced for 4 laps in the Lamborghini Veneno around Red Bull Ring GP

In Custom Race select the Red Bull Ring GP and the Lamborghini Veneno. Set the race to 4 laps. You can set 0 opponents if you want. Simply finish the race to get the trophy.

  • Drove a Porsche 911 GT1-98 at 24 Hours of Le Mans Circuit for 24 minutes at 60x time progression.

In Custom Race, select Le Mans (24 Hours of Le Mans Circuit) and the Porsche 911 GT1-98. In race settings, set the Duration Time to 25 minutes and the Time Progression to x60. You can set to 0 opponents.

Now you'll have to finish the race, it will only finish when you finish a lap so if the timer hits 00:00 you will still need to finish your lap. You can do one lap, and stand for 24 minutes behind the finish line so you can finish the race as soon as the timer hits 0.

  • Taken a photo in photo mode

In any race, pause the game and open the Photo Mode menu. Take a photo with and obtain this easy trophy.

  • Created a pit strategy and then used it when coming into the pits

This can be done in any mode. Before the race you'll be in the pit, select Pit Strategy and create a new one. The settings don't matter so choose whatever you want and save it in a new slot, make sure you select it as your active strategy.

Now during the race, request a pit stop using the menu with and go in the pits for the trophy to pop.

  • Used 3 different custom car setups for a single car

This can be done in any mode. Before the race you'll be in the pit, select Tuning Setup and change anything you want like the tyre pressure or anything else. Save that setup in a new slot. Repeat this operation 2 times and make sure to change another thing every time and you'll get the trophy.

  • Finished 1st in an online race over 5 laps without making contact

    (Online)

This is best to be done in private with a boosting partner. You'll have to win an online 5-lap race without colliding with an opponent or wall and without leaving the track.

Simply select a short track like Knockhill Tri-Oval with a fast car and win the race without touching anything.

  • Completed your first online race

    (Online)

Simply complete a public or private online race, no matter your final position.

  • Earned 50 Accolades

Accolades are earned in Career mode only, press in the career menu and you can see how many accolades you have in Progress & Settings. You can also see how to get them.

Earning them is simple enough, you earn an accolade whenever you win a championship, an invitational event or a manufacturer event.

When you're done with all your career stuff (zero to hero, winning in every discipline and winning 2 Tier 1 championships) you'll have a lot of Invitational Events. Complete and win those first as these are quicker than a full championship. Manufacturer proving grounds and events are also pretty quick to complete and they're also worth 1 accolade each (4 per manufacturer).

If you still need accolades you'll have to win another championship in your career to unlock more accolades and invitational events.

  • Earned your Rookie License

    (Online)

Please refer to Seen It All .

  • Earned your Amateur License

    (Online)

Please refer to Seen It All .

  • Earned your Pro-Am License

    (Online)

Please refer to Seen It All .

  • Earned your Pro License

    (Online)

Please refer to Seen It All .

  • Earned your Veteran License

    (Online)

To unlock these licenses you will simply need to finish online races, no matter your final position.

You'll just need 1 race for the Rookie license, 50 for the Amateur license, 100 for the Pro-Am license, 200 for the Pro license and 350 races for the Veteran license.

You can boost this with a boosting partner in public races by setting the lobby to just 2 players. If you're lucky you can also boost this by yourself, but it will take considerably more time. First, you'll need someone to enter your lobby and then you need to press Ready. If your opponent leaves before the start during practice you'll be able to drive alone and it will still count as a completed race.

When creating the lobby, select these settings:

    • Vehicle: Formula X (fastest car)
    • Track: Knockhill Tri-Oval (shortest track)
    • Race settings Duration Type: Laps
    • Number of Laps: 1
    • Start Type: Standing

    in Realism settings:

    • Damage Type: Full Damage

    in Rules and Regulations:

    • Competitive Racing License: On (if Off you won't earn any license)

To save some time you should aim to unlock the Safety First trophy before this one, as the 10-lap races for that trophy will also count towards your tally for this trophy.

  • Completed the lifetime goal (start in Tier 6 and go on to win a Tier 1 Championship)

    MISSABLE

When starting your career you can choose any championship from Tier 6 to Tier 3, for this trophy, you'll have to start in Tier 6 though. When choosing a championship, you can also select to do a full season or a short season. A short season will have fewer races so it's faster and it's perfectly fine to choose it for the trophies.

Choose any championship in Tier 6 (Ginetta Juniors is recommended if you want Diversity quicker) and win it. Now after this, only Tier 5 will be unlocked so choose any Tier 5 championship and win it. Repeat this until you reach Tier 1 and win a championship in that (Indycar is recommended in Tier 1 if you want Triple Crown ).

Losing a championship and restarting it or another one in the same Tier seems to void this trophy. Make sure to win every championship or you'll need to start another career.

  • Won two different Tier 1 Motorsports

In career mode there are 5 different championships in Tier 1. You'll have to win 2 of them for this trophy.

Indycar is recommended when you first reach Tier 1 as there is a race needed for Triple Crown . The second race needed for this trophy is in the Endurance championship but this one is long, so you can complete another quicker championship instead and leave that Endurance race for later.

  • Won three Championships in three different Motorsport disciplines

    Please refer to Diversity .

  • Finished on the podium 50 times in a single drivers Career

During your career you should aim to win every race. You can lower your opponent's difficulty and use any driving assists you want and/or disable the rules and penalties to make it easier. There are way more than 50 races in the career and for this trophy you just need to finish on the podium so this will come naturally.

  • Won the Indy 500, Le Mans 24 Hours and Azure Circuit Grand Prix

This trophy has to be done in Career mode. You have to win these 3 particular races in the same career to get the trophy.

Indy 500 is in the Indycar championship in Tier 1.
Le Mans 24 Hours is in the Global Endurance championship in Tier 1.
Azure Circuit Grand Prix is in the Formula X championship in Tier 2.

You only need to win these 3 races, you don't have to win the whole championship. When winning a Tier 1 championship all the championships will be unlocked so you will still be able to select the Formula X championship if you didn't before.

The Le Mans 24 Hours will take more than 2 hours even with the minimum duration and the other races in this championship will also take quite some time. This is why it's not recommended to choose this championship for Twice At The Top . If you want to win this race without having to drive for 2 hours you can take a substantial lead (3 to 4 minutes should be enough) and let the AI driver drive for you. You do this by opening the menu with and selecting Race Strategy -> Change pilot: Yes -> Ask for a pit stop. Go into the pits and let the AI finish the race. If for some reason the AI loses the lead, ask for another pit stop, change back your pilot and you'll be in control again.

  • Earned four Lifetime Goals

Lifetime goals can only be earned in Career mode. Press to see them under Progress and Settings.

Here are the different Lifetime Goals:

    1. Zero to Hero: Check Zero to Hero .
    2. Twice at the Top: Check Twice At The Top .
    3. Triple Crown: Check Triple Crown .
    4. Jack of All Trades: Check Diversity .
    5. National Pride: Check National Pride .
    6. Welcome Aboard: Check Brand Advocate .
    7. You’re One of Us Now: Check Cream Of The Crop .

As you can see, they're all tied to other trophies so this trophy will come naturally during your career.

  • Completed the Factory Drives set of events for a single manufacturer

Please refer to Cream Of The Crop .

  • Won all Factory Drive events for 3 manufacturers

First you have to earn maximum affinity with one of the manufacturers, then complete and win its proving ground event. After that you will unlock 3 new events which you need to win as well. Simply rinse and repeat this process for 2 other manufacturers to obtain this trophy.

Please refer to Brand Advocate to know how to earn affinity.

  • Became a for a manufacturer

During your career, you will be able to choose to drive many different cars. When you're driving a car and winning a championship with this car, you will earn affinity with the manufacterer. So try to always choose the same brand of cars whenever possible.

When the affinity is maxed out with a manufacturer they will invite you to a proving ground event. Win this event to earn the trophy.

  • Earned Affinity with two manufacturers

Same as Brand Advocate but with 2 different manufacturers. For this trophy you don't have to win the proving ground event though, just earning full affinity levels with 2 manufacturers will be enough.

  • Completed a successful pit stop with manual control

This can be earned in any game mode. In the Gameplay Settings, you will have to set Manual Pit Stop to 'Yes'. Now during the race, go into the pits and stop the car at the spot designated to you. The trophy will pop upon leaving the pits.

  • Saved a car setup received from a friend

    (Online)

This trophy can be tricky to pop. The person that sends you the car setup must be on your friends list, but the game seems to have trouble to detect whether you're PSN friends or not. If you're having trouble unlocking this trophy, try to delete your friend, send him a friend invite through the game (by clicking on his profile), close and then restart the game.

Now you will have to host a private online race and invite your friend. Before the race go to the setup menu, create a custom setup for your car and save it. Click on the share option and save it again. Now you can send it to your friend.

The other person has to go in the Received tab in the share menu with , click on the setup you just received and save it to earn the trophy.

  • Joined an in-progress online race as a spectator

    (Online)

In the main menu go to Quickplay, Browser Online. Select a race that has some laps remaining, which you can see on the right-hand side. Join the session and vote to join the race, you will then automatically join the race as a spectator and earn this trophy.

  • Used the Director mode for a full race

    (Online)

This can be boosted with a friend. When you're hosting an online session, press on your username and make yourself a Director using the directional buttons. Start the race and you'll be in the director mode watching your friend driving. Wait for your friend to complete the full race to earn this trophy.

  • Used the Race Engineer in Tuning Setup and made changes based off their recommendation.

This can be done in any mode. Before the race go to Tuning Setup, Race Engineer. Talk with your engineer about anything here and at the end of the dialogue your engineer will change something and you will earn the trophy.

  • Earnt a B Online Reputation Safety Grade.

    (Online)

In online mode, you can see your online reputation grade on your profile on the small license plate. You start with U1500. For this trophy, you will need to work yourself up to a B rank.

To earn this you will need to complete a lot of clean laps, which means no collisions with your opponents or a wall and not leaving the track. Given the nature of most online racers, it's easiest to boost this trophy with a single boosting partner. It is advised to pair this trophy with the License trophies to save yourself some time.

Select the shortest/fastest track (usually ovals) with the fastest car and set the race to 10 laps to obtain this trophy quicker.

When creating your lobby, select these settings:

    • Vehicle: Formula X (fastest car)
    • Track: Knockhill Tri-Oval (shortest track)
    • Race settings Duration Type: Laps
    • Number of Laps: 10
    • Start Type: Standing

    in Realism settings:

    • Damage Type: Full Damage

    in Rules and Regulations:

    • Competitive Racing License: On

Your final position doesn't matter, just make sure to complete clean laps. It should take you around 2 hours to obtain this trophy.

  • Downloaded another players setup from within Time Trial.

    (Online)

In the main menu go to Community, Time-Trial. Click on Add Ghost on the left side and refresh the page with / if necessary. Select the ghost of someone in the leaderboard who has a wrench icon under Tuning Setup.

Now start the time trial but before starting the race, press and to download the ghost. When it's done the trophy will pop.

  • Won your first Championship.

You will earn this trophy when winning your first championship in Career mode.
