Pac-Man TGA is a classical platformer. You play through 6 worlds with a number of levels. You gain a variety of power ups for Pac-Man that allow you to interact and move through the diverse levels, while collecting power pellets, coins and fruit, and eating every ghost in sight. There are a few relatively simple boss battles along the way that shouldn't prove too difficult. Graphically the game looks quite sharp, and the controls are decent, although the camera will get in the way at times. This game is clearly aimed at the younger crowd, although it would probably be too difficult for the target demographic.

With a trophy list that is rich in silver and gold trophies, and a relatively short platinum time, this game should find a niche with trophy hunters. With limited replayability, however, it is best served as a rental or bargain bin find, not at full retail pricing.

The majority of the trophies will be earned in your first playthrough. Most will come naturally via progression. I would suggest exploring the levels fairly thoroughly to find as many pellets and Pacberry Pies as possible. While there are no specific collectable trophies, this will cut down on grinding later on.

Note that there are vending machines and recycling bins on every level. In addition to health, these also drop pies (extra lives), and Slimetarium at times. You will need these so interact with everything.

You will also find small clusters of bushes that sparkle. Musical chimes will sound when you brush through them, and if you hit all the bushes in a cluster a pie or Slimetarium pip will sometimes appear.

Most ghosts can be eaten directly, but try to scare groups with your move. There is a trophy for eating 300 scared (blue) ghosts, and this will take quite a while. Note that collecting any power up will automatically refill the scare meter. Otherwise you need to eat 5 ghosts in rapid succession to refill it. Finally, eating 5 scared ghosts quickly will grant you a Pacberry Pie. Yummy!

Step 1: Complete the story levels across the 6 main worlds (5-6 hours)

I would suggest playing through the game from start to finish, completing all story levels. There are 6 worlds in total, broken down into levels. Story levels are noted with a fruit and a coin. For this step you can also complete the bonus levels (noted with a coin only), or leave them until step 2. Playing the story levels the first time will always award a fruit at the end. Replaying them will award the coin. You will eventually need to replay all levels.

This will unlock all the story related trophies, and most miscellaneous trophies along the way.

Do not go out of your way to worry about the kills trophies, other than Oooo! Scary!. This will require 300 scared (blue) ghost kills. You cannot scare ghosts while in any powered up form, other than the Granite Ball. Since you do not need to scare ghosts in order to kill them, this can easily be overlooked. There are no farming locations in this game, so I suggest slowly working away at this trophy from the start. Try to use your scare power () whenever you see a group of 3-5 or more ghosts in close proximity.

I would also suggest returning to the school (press from the world map after each completed level) to quickly run around the rooms and collect pies and coins. You are guaranteed at least 1 pie, and I have earned as many as 4 by checking the vending machines and recycling bins. You can also get coins to drop. Note that the drops are completely random, but you will rarely get nothing but health. See Pacberry Pie Hog for more details.

Step 2: Complete the 6 Bonus Levels (1 hour)

The main goal here will be to clear the 6 bonus levels, if you did not do this during step 1. These levels are noted at the world map by a single coin only. They are much shorter than the main story levels, but have no checkpoints. If you die, you will need to restart the level. Most can be cleared in under 5 minutes.

Step 3: Arcade Games (1 hour)

At this point you should have unlocked all 4 arcade machines. They can be accessed from the school (press from the world map). They are mostly short and easy, but refer to the trophy description for tips.

Note that you will need to use coins to play the games, just like in a real arcade. You must use 1 coin to start a game, and can use additional coins if you fail and need to continue. You should have more than enough from your first playthrough - I used less than 10 total, and had over 80 after my first playthrough. If for some reason you run out, then you can replay story levels to earn more.

Step 4: Replay all story levels (3-4 hours)

At this point you should be near the end. You will have to replay all main story levels to collect the coin. Story levels have both a fruit and a coin, and you should have all the fruits from Step 1. Assuming you have done the bonus levels in Step 2, there is no need to play them a second time. During this step you should earn most of the rest of your kill trophies, and max your Pac health at 6.

Step 5: Clean Up

In all likelihood you will still need to get the 100 kills as Metal Pac. Replay the level Flurry of Activity (Ice Realm) until it pops. You should not need to do this more than twice. If you have any other kill trophies left, or have not fully upgraded your Pac health/lives, now is the time to do it, and collect your shiny . Congratulations.

  • Earn every Trophy in the game.

    Congratulations on the platinum.

  • Unlock Chapter 2.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Hedge Maze, in World 1 Pacopolis. You do not need to complete the bonus levels for this.

    Boss Tips:

While not truly a boss, in the Hedge Maze you will first be introduced to one of the special, large ghosts - the Cyclops. You will fight these more frequently during the later levels, and the attack pattern is always the same. Get his attention and he will try to swat you with his electrical tail. If he misses, the tail will momentarily be vulnerable to attack. Simply back away from him as he starts to attack, then double tap once you see his tail stuck. Note that these bosses always drop Slimetarium.

  • Unlock Chapter 3.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Ruined Maze in World 2, Ruins. There are no bonus levels in this world.

    Boss Tips:

The boss for this world is in the second to last level, Temple of Slime. He is a large stone golem with gold teeth that shout "break me". The trick is you need to stay in Granite Ball form and deflect the stone balls he releases into his teeth. If you have played billiards, you will get the general idea. Dodge his gound pounds and the fire balls, and concentrate on the stone balls. You will need to knock his teeth 3 times to clear the middle, left and right sections. The left section is the hardest due to the angle. I found it easiest to use a charge attack (hold ) to help line up the shot.

  • Unlock Chapter 4.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Fiery Maze, in World 3, Netherworld. You do not need to complete the bonus levels for this.

    Boss Tips:

    This world has 2 bosses.

The first boss is found in the second level, Dragon Valley. The battle takes place on a lake of lava. You are on floating mounds and the dragon launches lava balls at you. Dodge them, and when they land shoot them with ice () to freeze them. After he shoots 5-6 balls he will suck them back in. Any you have frozen will damage him. You repeat this process 3 times, with fewer mounds to stand on each time. If you get damaged, there are ice power ups to the far left and right. It does not seem to matter how many of the lava balls you freeze, as long as you get one each time the battle should end after 3 rounds.

The second boss is Ogle the chef, in the Castle Crasher level. This battle takes place on a makeshift grill. Ogle will throw out food items for you to eat, while dodging moving flames. Grills that are about to light up will be red. Flames always move from the front of the grid to the back, and the right of the grill to the left. There are 3 rounds to this battle, with 3 waves of food per round. Simply avoid the flames and eat all the food. There is one health item released per wave as well. You do not need to eat it to complete the wave, so leave it if your health is full.

  • Unlock Chapter 5.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Ice Maze, in World 4, Ice Realm. You do not need to complete the bonus levels for this.

    Boss Tips:

During this chapter you encounter two more large ghosts, Wizards (first seen in Killer Frost) and Dragons (first seen in Flurry of Activity). Similar to the Cyclops ghosts, these are more powerful and need a specific method to take down. Wizards always send out a circular wave attack followed by bolts. Jump over the wave towards their tails, then double tap for the take down. Dragons should always appear with Ice power-ups nearby. Take on the Ice Pac power and shoot them with to take them down.

The main boss battle in this world occurs in the Temple of Ice. You will take on Cyli, who has been possessed by a scientist ghost. This battle is fairly straightforward. Use the Fire power-up to melt the ice at the bottom of the turning structure, while avoiding the ice beam. Once the bottom is clear jump across the lava, then make your way to the top level, melting ice as you go. On the top there are 3 platforms, and a tree on each. Make your way to each platform, then light the tree. This opens 3 windows on the machine turning in the centre. Use to throw a fireball at each and take the machine down. Overall an easy battle, although the camera does get in your way.

  • Unlock Chapter 6.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Roundhouse Rumble in World 5, Pacopolis Revisited. You do not need to complete the bonus levels for this.

There are no major bosses in Pacopolis Revisited.

  • Complete the final level of the game.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

This will unlock when you complete the last story level, Ghost of a Chance, in World 6, Netherworld Revisited. You do not need to complete the bonus levels for this.

    Boss Tips:

No less than 3 bosses await you in the final world.

Fluffy starts things off in the very first level, A Fluffy Reception. This is a very easy battle, and in fact is the entire level. Simply avoid Fluffy's whirlwind until he either tires out, or if possible get him to chase you towards a dirt pile. This will stop his attack immediately, turning him back into a poodle. Target his tail and chomp with . Rinse and repeat two more times, while taking down the wizard ghosts that spawn.

The second boss is our friend the stone golem. He appears this time in the Temple of Mystery, but there are no teeth to destroy. You will be on a circular platform and he launches fire balls at you. Grab the Ice power-up, and look towards the edges. You will see 4 spring boards. The goal is to get him to launch a ball towards a spring board, and you need to freeze it with then let it rebound off the board and damage him. You need to repeat this four times, avoiding a circular wave of energy between rounds. There are 4 boards altogether, and they are destroyed after a single use, so you must move around and use all 4. I found it easiest to position myself behind the spring board, and move out once the ball is coming toward the board.

Note that the golem should turn the surface of the structure to ice after the second time you hit him. The first time I played through this did not occur, even though all 4 boards were destroyed. I had to kill myself and restart the battle.

Final battle - Betrayus. Possibly the easiest final boss ever. All you need to do is position yourself in front of one of the 4 square, purple mirrors. The objective is to have his laser beam deflect off the mirror and back at him. There are 4 mirrors, and they are deactivated after a single use, so you need to move around and use all 4. The difficulty comes from avoiding the red balls that Betrayus shoots out. If you keep moving and try to attract the balls in one direction, then run to a mirror in the opposite direction, this shouldn't be too difficult.

  • Complete all bonus levels.

This will unlock when you complete all 7 of the bonus levels. These levels are shorter than the main story levels, but they have no checkpoints. They should not give you too much trouble. Bonus levels do not have a fruit icon at the world map.

    Bonus Levels List:

    Precarious Platforms (Pacopolis)
    Swing Time (Pacopolis)
    Fire and Ice (Netherworld)
    Weird Attraction (Ice Realm)
    Hot Air Hijinks (Pacopolis Revisited)
    Spin-O-Rama (Pacopolis Revisited)
    Burn Rubber (Netherworld Revisited)

  • Collect enough Globe Energy orbs to unlock the Temple of Slime.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

Temple of Slime is the fifth level in world 2, Ruins. In order to progress, you need to complete all previous levels and have enough Orbs to unlock this level.

Globe Energy Orbs are the fancy new name for the classical yellow pellets. There are hundreds of these scattered throughout the levels, and they help to guide you where you need to go. You will also collect orbs for eating ghosts, and sometimes they will drop from recycling bins or vending machines. Be sure also to check the small shrubs scattered around the levels.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting the required total through regular play. This should unlock when you have around 1500 orbs. You can check your total from the school by pressing In the unlikely event that you don't have enough, you can replay unlocked levels to farm more.

  • Collect enough Globe Energy orbs to unlock the Temple of Ice.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

Temple of Ice is the fifth level in world 4, Ice Realm. In order to progress, you need to complete all previous levels and have enough Orbs to unlock this level.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting the required total through regular play. This should unlock when you have around 3000 orbs, which will likely come well before you reach world 4. You can check your total from the school by pressing In the unlikely event that you don't have enough, you can replay unlocked levels to farm more.

  • Collect enough Globe Energy orbs to unlock the Temple of Mystery.

    Story related, cannot be missed.

Temple of Mystery is the second level in world 6, Netherworld Revisited. In order to progress, you need to complete all previous levels and have enough Orbs to unlock this level.

Globe Energy Orbs are the fancy new name for the classical yellow pellets. There are hundreds of these scattered throughout the levels, and they help to guide you where you need to go. You shouldn't have too much trouble getting the required total through regular play. This should unlock when you have around 4500 orbs, which will likely come well before you reach world 6. You can check your total from the school by pressing In the unlikely event that you don't have enough, you can replay unlocked levels to farm more.

  • Defeat 100 enemies as Ice Pac.

Ice Pac is the first power up you will get to use, although it doesn't appear frequently until the middle of the game. Pressing freezes nearby ghosts. Any kills made by eating frozen ghosts, or by eating ghosts regularly while powered up, will count.

You should have no problem unlocking this well before the end of your first playthrough.

  • Defeat 100 enemies as Fire Pac.

Fire-Man is another early power up you will get to use, although it doesn't appear frequently through the game. Pressing shoots fireballs that one hit kill most ghosts. Any kills made by blasting ghosts, or by eating ghosts regularly while powered up, will count.

I would recommend farming this in Cold Case, Pacopolos, where you move the two frozen ghost blocks. Stand on the ledge above them and spam . The ice blocks continue to respawn, and you should get the 100 kills within a few minutes.

  • Defeat 100 enemies as Chameleon Pac.

Chameleon Pac is the second power up you will get to use, and it appears frequently in the early levels of the game. Pressing makes you invisible and will shoot your tongue out to eat a ghost from a greater distance. Any kills made by eating ghosts while invisible or with your tongue, will count.

You should have no problem unlocking this well before the end of your first playthrough, probably within the first few worlds.

  • Defeat 100 enemies as Metal Pac.

Metal Pac doesn't appear until the Flurry of Activity level in world 4 and grants you the power to walk on metal beams, defying gravity. This power isn't encountered often, with the only other story level occurence on Metal Mania (Pacopolis Revisited) and there are not a lot of opportunities to accumulate kills while powered up. You will not unlock this during your first playthrough. If you don't have it by the end of playthrough 2, then replay Flurry of Activity until it unlocks.

  • Defeat 100 enemies as Granite Ball Pac.

Another infrequent power, similar to Metal Pac you probably won't get this during playthrough 1. This should come naturally during your Token Effort playthrough.

  • Defeat 300 Blue (Scared) Ghosts.

When play with an non-powered up Pac-Man, pressing will scare nearby ghosts. They will turn blue and run away from you. Eating 5 of them quickly will grant you a Pacberry Pie, and recharge your scare meter. Otherwise, you will need to re-power the meter by eating 5 regular ghosts in close succession, or by finding a power up.

I would suggest working on this consistently throughout the game. Technically you can complete the game without ever using this ability, and 300 ghosts is a significant number. This should be a priority to work on until it pops, likely towards the end of your first playthrough.

Note that kills earned when you are a Granite Ball also count towards this.

  • Chomp 50 recycling bins over the course of the game.

Recycling bins are located in every level. They have a variety of shapes and colors. Along with vending machines, these drop useful Coins, health items, Slimetarium and rarely Pacberry Pies.

You will likely earn this very early in the game, and would have to make a monumental effort to avoid them in order to miss this.

Bins located in the school also count towards this trophy.

  • Complete all levels of the Lemon Rocket arcade mini-game.

There are 4 levels in this mini game. They are short, linear side scrolling levels, with a boss at the end of each. Likely a tribute to the R-Type or Gradius style of game. These are very easy, and you should be able to clear the levels with just one coin. The walls in the levels pose the greatest threat as touching one is an instant death.

  • Complete all levels of the Cherry Copter arcade mini-game.

A definite nod to the Choplifter games, there are 4 levels to clear. You must free citizens on the ground stuck in green goo. Using the bombs is your best offensive weapon. Freed citizens must run into a building for safety. Note that some citizens are on platforms without a building, so you must pick them up and move them.

Fortunately you do not need to rescue all the citizens in the levels in order to clear the game.

  • Complete all levels of the Pacerchini arcade mini-game.

Probably the hardest trophy in the game, this arcade game has you piloting a ship down a tunnel, hitting boost pads while avoiding traffic and shooting ghosts. The challenge is in the last 2 levels where the checkpoint times are quite tight. This still shouldn't give much trouble - try not to shoot traffic, and stick to one side of the tube when large packs of ghosts appear. Try to save pickle power ups for the boss at the end. Remember also that you can use an extra coin to continue if you fail one of the 4 levels.

  • Complete all levels of the Pineapple Tank arcade mini-game.

The most time consuming (and boring) of the mini-games, in this you move a pineapple tank around a maze, shooting ghosts and dragons. The tank only fires in the direction you are pointing and the ghosts in later levels take quite a bit of damage. Try to collect the shield/damage power ups.

There are a total of 4 levels in this game, with 2, 3, 4 and 5 waves respectively.

  • Collect at least one Arcade Token in every level.

Likely the last trophy you will earn. You must replay each story level twice, collecting the fruit the first time, and a coin the second. The fruit or coin is at the end of the level, and cannot be missed as you can't leave the level until you do so. You can track progress from the world map as the game will tell you which levels you have collected the coin. You will also have to play each bonus level once, as they have no fruit. The coin is the only end of level reward.

For the purpose of this trophy, any coins found in the levels from vending machines/recycling bins do NOT count.

  • Increase Pac's maximum Health to 6.

You start the game with 3 hearts. Every time you take damage you will lose one heart. Eating a food item will replenish one heart. As you play the game, you will find Slimetarium - small round pearly balls. These are located in recycling bins, vending machines, and special pillar containers. Certain enemies also drop Slimetarium, and clusters of bushes will occasionally spawn Slimetarium. These clusters are noted by sparkles around the bushes, and musical chimes play. If you walk through all the bushes in a cluster an item will spawn.

You gain a 4th heart for collecting 15 Slimetarium power ups, a 5th for 35, and the 6th and final at 60.

I had over 50 at the end of my first playthrough, so you should get this early in playthrough 2. If you haven't explored much during playthrough 1, you can farm this by replaying levels. Park Panic in the first world, Pacopolis, has at least 5 Slimetarium.

  • Increase Pac's total lives to 50 or more.

You start the game with 3 lives. Every Pie you find adds one additional life. Pies can be found in recycling bins, vending machines, and scattered around levels. Eating 50 ghosts in a level, or 5 blue scared ghosts in rapid succession with spawn a Pie, and clusters of bushes will occasionally spawn Pies. These clusters are noted by sparkles around the bushes, and musical chimes play. If you walk through all the bushes in a cluster an item will spawn.

Most levels contain a number of Pies and you likely will earn more than you lose. However, there are also a number of sudden deaths - falling off ledges, in lava, and during boss fights. There are several ways to farm this.

Replaying with the 2 frozen ghosts that continually respawn is one option. Every 50 ghosts will grant you one life. You can grind this out, killing ghosts until the trophy pops.

Option 2 is just to play the game and slowly accumulate lives. If you are skilled, you will probably have more than 50 by the end of playthrough 2.

The best option I think is to return to the school after completing each level. Press from the world map and then quickly run around the rooms. You are guaranteed at least one pie, but by checking the bins and vending machines you will likely get more. I have had as many as 4, although 2 is probably the average. Using this method I had 80 lives by the end of playthrough 1. If you want to speed it along, you can clear the school, start a level then quit back to the school, and rinse and repeat until you have 50 lives.

Note that 99 lives is the maximum that you can accumulate.

  • Complete an entire level without losing a life.

This may well be the first trophy you earn in the game. The first level is quite easy and it is unlikely that the ghosts will kill you. Just be careful with the jumps. If you don't get this on level 1, it will almost certainly come before the end of your first playthrough.

Note that getting hit and losing a heart is fine, you just can't lose all your hearts, or fall off a ledge and die.
