Introduction:

NOT A HERO is a pixel art 2D shooter deveveloped by indie studio Roll7 and published by Devolver which was first released on PC in May 2015 and on PS4 in Februrary 2016. The mysterious but seemingly benevolent BunnyLord travelled back from 2048 to be elected as Mayor to save the world from an impending global catastrophe. To promote his electoral campaign, he assembles a team of freelance trigger-happy anti-heroes to fight crime in the city and take down mob bosses.

When it comes to trophies, the list is quite short but will still require some effort. Not unlike Hotline Miami games (although not as hard), you will have to complete the different story missions while performing various tasks along the way. Die and retry is truly the name of the game here, but the levels are quite short and the whole game is sprinkled with humor making this a fast-paced and honestly quite a fun ride!

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play though the game, completing challenges and looking out for miscellaneous objectives

You can go at this however you prefer: either first complete the various missions without paying attention to challenges (and come back to clean-up later), or only move on to the next mission when you've fully completed it. Either way, going through the 21 days having completed all 3 challenges for all of them will earn you these trophies:
Along the way, you will also unlock these story-related trophies:
You should also pay attention to the secret doors hidden in some levels (one in each section of the game):

Step 2: Clean-up

If you still have to find the secret doors, this will be the time to do so.

The cumulative kill trophies will likely come naturally in the first step, but otherwise you can simply replay some missions to unlock them:

12 trophies ( 2  )

  • MAKE BUNNYLORD GLOBAL MEGALORD

To earn this trophy, finish all 21 missions having completed the 3 optional challenges in all of them.
Please note that you need to complete all challenges in the same run.

Giving advice for every single mission would be quite tedious and probably of relative use. Luckily, Superbuu3 has uploaded a video playlist of the 21 missions with their 3 challenges completed in this thread. You can also check the playlist on YouTube.

These videos are incredibly useful and I strongly recommend you to watch them. Other than that, don't hesitate to experiment with the different characters if you feel stuck, and remember that you can always finish a mission then come back later with another character you have unlocked to make the challenges easier. For reference, I've used Steve from the start until I got Mike after Day 8, then I've used him on all other missions except 11-12 (where Steve got some love again) and 20-21 in which Kimmy's katana proved extremely useful.
  • MAKE BUNNYLORD KING OF ENGLAND

To earn this trophy, you must finish all 21 missions having completed at least 2 optional challenges in each of them.
Please refer to trophy_gold.png MEGALORD for more details.
  • MAKE BUNNYLORD PRIMINISTER

To earn this trophy, you must finish all 21 missions having completed at least 1 optional challenge in each of them.
Please refer to trophy_gold.png MEGALORD for more details.
  • MAKE BUNNYLORD MAYOR

    Story-related, cannot be missed.

To earn this trophy, simply finish all 21 missions (no optional challenges needed).
Please refer to trophy_gold.png MEGALORD for more details.
  • KILL THE HELICOPTER

    Story-related, cannot be missed.

You will have to take down a helicopter during Day 16 "Ninjery Time" in Sushi Central. You can exploit that fact that there are two sides to the building you are in, so take position on the right and shoot it when it's safe. You can then go to the left of the building and take advantage of the time the helicopter takes to move around to reload or heal before going back to the right side, ready to attack again. Rinse and repeat until it's destroyed as shown in the video below (between 2:05 and 4:10).

  • DO A TOTAL OF 300 EXECUTIONS

This is cumulative over all mission replays. You perform an execution when an enemy gets knocked out (for example you slide and tackle them with cross.png). When you get on top of a lying foe with yellow Zzzz above their head, simply hit r1.png to execute them.

You will most likely earn this naturally, but it will depend on your playstyle and the characters you use. In case you haven't unlocked this trophy when you finish the game, you can easily replay early missions to grind executions (Mike would be a good pick with his long slides and silent executions).
  • GET A TOTAL OF 300 CRITICAL HITS

This is cumulative over all mission replays. It's a bit unclear what counts as an execution, but it should be when you shoot an enemy at close range and their head explodes or their body is blown to pieces.

You will most likely earn this naturally, but it will depend on your playstyle and the characters you use. In case you haven't unlocked this trophy when you finish the game, you can easily replay early missions to grind executions (Mike and his shotgun would be a good pick).
  • FIND THE SECRET DOOR IN SUSHI CENTRAL

Sushi Central is the third and last section of the game, where Days 15 to 21 take place.

The secret door is located in Day 16 "Ninjery Time". Just progress normally until you find the first door that you need to blow up with C4. Once done, move up one floor and you'll see a red barrel at the far left. Execute the guy next to it, position yourself on the left side of the barrel and shoot it. This will send you flying to the secret door, just go through it to unlock the trophy (you don't need to complete the bonus stage). If you prefer visual help, please see the video below.

  • FIND THE SECRET DOOR IN BREDRIN PARK

Bredrin Park is the second section of the game, where Days 8 to 14 take place.

The secret door is located in Day 13 "War on Drugs". After moving up to the top of the second building, you will need to jump right through a window to the roof of a third building then jump back down to the left to re-enter it (in a small room with a power-up). Drop down one floor and kill the guy there, then drop down again to reveal a "Door you can't see" sign. Keep going left and eventually enter the door to unlock the trophy (you don't need to complete the bonus stage). If you prefer visual help, please see the video below.

  • FIND THE SECRET DOOR IN VODKAVILLE

Vodkaville is the first section of the game, where Days 1 to 7 take place.

The secret door is located in Day 6 "Big Business". When you get to the top of the third building, you will notice a fire extinguisher on the right. Execute both enemies there, position yourself on the right of the extinguisher and shoot it. This will send you flying to the roof of another building with a '? >' sign on it, just slide and jump through the window of the next building on the right to find the secret door and enter it it to unlock the trophy (you don't need to complete the bonus stage). If you prefer visual help, please see the video below.
