Introduction

This game can be take an enormous amount of skill to platinum. It will frustrate you so much that you will want to throw your controller out of the window. However, it is probably the most fun off road racing game on the PS3 and if you were just to play it for fun every now and then you would really enjoy it. But these trophies require you to be extremely skilled at every track because of the time trials and the festival can be gruelling in the later stages. Not to mention that you have to battle out online, win 3 races in a row and reach the rank of legend. I have estimated about 12 online trophies but some apply for both offline and online including trophies such as win 5 races on each track and wreck your vehicle 250 times and many other trophies. In my opinion this is a very prestigious platinum trophy to have.

Step 1 - Festival Playthrough

Ok. Do not make the mistake that I did. In this step I would recommend that you do not go online at all. Head straight for the festival where you will be introduced gradually to the 16 tracks. At first in the early stages you will find the races very easy and should hopefully get many gold medals. You need to learn the tracks very well and know the shortcuts. Find out the quickest way for you and the way you prefer to go and it is very important that you know what vehicles you like for which track, although some races you don't have any choice in what vehicle to choose. There are 3 different types of races that you will have to do in the festival. There are speed events, driving through checkpoints, elimination events, where a racer is eliminated after a certain period of time and you have to be the last one. There is also of course the standard races. In the later stages of the speed events I would advise that you go through the track a few times, get to know where the checkpoints are then attempt the race. Don't worry if it takes you at least a few times to get the the gold medal because it is difficult! Then there are the elimination events. With these try to stay away from the other vehicles and take the shortest possible route. You need to be out in front leading the race, and eventually all the other vehicles will be eliminated providing another gold medal for you. And with the standard races if you are in a big vehicle, try ramming a few other vehicles so they are further behind you and again take the best route. By now you should have a fair few of the festival related trophies and you will need to try the "Can't Touch this" trophy. Pick your favourite rank 8 race and stay as far away from the other vehicles as you can but if you do get wrecked you can just restart the race. Don't worry about the 96 silver medals because that will automatically come as you go for the 96 gold medals. Just check which races you haven't got a gold medal on and work on that race until you do. Don't move onto another one, just be patient and focus and you will win the race even if it takes 10 tries. Then move onto the next one and you will have got an extra gold and silver trophy. Festival completed!!! Step 2 coming up next.

Step 2 - Clean up Trophy Run using Freeplay

This is the clean up trophy run and you can use free play to get these very quickly. Some trophies you might need to get still in this run include:

Lightweight
Mediumweight
Heavyweight

With these trophies they require you to win 50 races with a lightweight, a heavyweight and a mediumweight vehicle. You can check the trophy guide if you are unsure which vehicles are in what class. Check which trophies of these you still need, for example if you need lightweight choose the bike set up a free play race on your favourite track and set the computer settings to easy. Win the race and repeat till you get the trophy. Do the same with the other two trophies with the right vehicles.

Note: The "Tortoise" trophy has to be done in festival. It didn't work for me in free play but it did in
the festival.

Please refer to the trophy guide for necessary roughness and the tumbler trophies.

So we have made good progress now and are nearly onto the online trophies but first we have to get the two time trial trophies. Time to move onto step 3.

Step 3 - Time trials

You now need to beat the developer's times for every track with every vehicle. It sounds pretty bad doesn't it? However by now you know all the vehicles and all the tracks off by heart. You could do them with your eyes shut. Well, not quite. But this isn't as hard as you think it will be, however it can take a long time to do. Go to wreckreation, time trials and choose the race and vehicle and beat the developer's ghost. It may take you a few times to do but you will be able to do it. Unfortunately it won't actually tell you if you have beaten the time so you will have to choose the race and car and see if you have got a faster time than the developer's. And to cheer you up, they bunged in a "Ghost rider" trophy so you will get a trophy on the way to 128 races! You will feel relieved when you finish the time trials. So once you have done this, you can move onto the final stage. ONLINE!

You should now have all the trophies apart from the online ones. Somewhere along the way you will have picked up the gold trophy for winning 250 races, probably in step 2. Now it is time for step 4.

Step 4 - Online

This step is to gain the online trophies. Complete 50 casual races first, as then you really just have the ranked online races to play. You should get to veteran rank fairly quickly but the key in online is not to wreck. Every time I wreck I get seriously frustrated and then I think I haven't got much of a chance. But if you followed the steps, you shouldn't have much of a problem. You will win along the way and without wrecking netting you a few more trophies. You will have the 3 hardest trophies to get. Win 3 ranked races in a row. You can either boost this, or try to get your favourite track every time. Colossus Canyon every time I am almost guaranteed to win and I probably win that race online about 9/10 times. So know your favourite tracks and if it doesn't come up, quit before the race starts and retry. You have got a better chance if you try this method at rank 1, because you will be with people who are new to the game. Once you get that out of the way, head for hero and legend. Again if you want to quit and restart the game so you get a race you like try that, otherwise your percentage will go down.

And there you have it!! Another prestigious platinum should be added to your collection.

Speed and Adrenaline DLCs:

Roadmap

  • Estimated Trophy Difficulty: 4/10 (my personal rating)
  • Offline Trophies: 13 (10 , 3 )
  • Online Trophies: 3 (2 , 1 )
  • Estimate time: 10-15 hours (varies with skill & boosting)
  • Minimum number of playthroughs: Multiple playthroughs of original and SPEED tracks for speed weekend, time attack and online trophies. 3x playthroughs on all 8 ADRENALINE tracks for time attack, hardcore freeplay and online trophies.
  • Missable Trophies: None
  • Glitched Trophies: None
  • Do cheats disable trophies?: No cheats that I am aware of.

Welcome to my MotorStorm: Pacific Rift Speed + Adrenaline trophy guide. Here I will detail to you all the information you will need to obtain all the trophies from these two DLC's. Most of the trophies for this additional content are relatively easy, the biggest hurdle being the time attacks. Not to worry though, if you already achieved platinum for this game these trophies should be pretty easy to obtain.

Let me first begin this roadmap by giving you a key piece of advice: Previous experience with the game, while not required, is highly advisable. The physics and mechanics for each vehicle on each track can take some time to learn, but your task here will be greatly reduced if you have already played the game before. Try working towards collecting all the original trophies and once you have done so then return and work on these.

Here is a list of all the DLC tracks. I wasn't sure at first which track belonged to which DLC so I thought this list might help:

Speed DLC Tracks:
------------------------
Quicksands
Dark Fire Swamp
Engorged
Caldera Ridge Volcanic
Wildfire Volcanic
The Rift Volcanic
-------------------------

Adrenaline DLC Tracks:
------------------------
Reef Runner
Brimstone
Hollowed Earth
Hollowed Earth Volcanic
Badlands Volcanic
The Edge Volcanic
Mudslide Volcanic
Scorched Volcanic

My recommendation is to first begin by getting all the time attacks out of the way. They are the hardest trophies and will provide you with the necessary practice to complete the rest of the trophies. Once you are done with this you can complete all the rest of the trophies in whichever order you prefer.

This concludes the roadmap section of the guide. I hope it has proven useful to you and wish you the best of luck in getting all the trophies.

  • Win a race by a margin of less than 0.1s

The easiest way to get this is to go to free-play. Select any course, 1 lap, opponents on easy and remove all the opponents except for one. Once the race starts, follow behind the computer and once you get close to the finish line, pull up beside them and try to stay barely ahead of them until you cross the finish line. This will show a list of your times in this track. If your time is better than the developers then you will beat that ghost.

You can track your progress under garage then go to trophies and it has the list of trophies and how much progress you have towards completing it or go into free-play, create an elimination race with the shortest elimination time, then remove all A.I. except for 1 and make that remaining A.I. a Big Rig. Then choose a fast accelerating vehicle and after around 40s seconds you should win then retry the race. Thanks Tarixx

  • Qualify and Race All Monster Truck Rival Races

These 8 bronze Weekender trophies are all obtained by playing the Speed Weekend event of the SPEED DLC, which can be found in the Wreckreation section of the main menu. There are a total of 6 speed events for each vehicle which adds up to 48 speed events in all. They take place on a mixture of tracks which include both the original and DLC tracks, and in my personal opinion they are all pretty easy if you have already managed to complete the original speed races from the Festival.

Basically all that is required is to first qualify for the main speed event for each of these vehicles by finishing before the target time and then racing once again to beat your qualifying time. Two of these tracks will have a qualification target time of 15 seconds, the next two 20 seconds, and the last two 25 seconds. Some of these races will be repeated from the Festival, but others are new and may require one or two attempts at most to complete. I didn't find any of the qualification times particularly difficult so you shouldn't have to struggle much with these.

Once you have qualified for each track you will then be presented with the option to move on to the main speed event. These are the same as the qualification races except that now green and red objects are added to give you bonus time. These objects consist of green gates and red speed bumps for both the bike and atv, while the rest of the vehicles have green and red barrels instead. Hitting the green barrels and ducking under the green gates is important because they will give you bonus time which is essential to beating your own qualification time. Needless to say that the red barrels and the red speed bumps should be avoided since they will substract from your final time.

  • Play a Split-Screen race on all six SPEED tracks

The fastest method for this trophy is to connect a second controller and choose to play Split-Screen Elimination races on all six SPEED tracks. Make sure to set the elimination time to 5 seconds since all you really need is to just finish the race.

  • Beat Developer Ghosts on all six SPEED tracks

Please refer to the Further Qualifications trophy for full description.

  • Win an Online race on each of the six SPEED tracks

Please refer to the Surf and Turf trophy for full description.

DLC: Adrenaline Expansion

5 trophies

  • Win online with each DLC character on any DLC track

Please refer to this thread for images (courtesy of Mystic) of the 6 drivers you will need to use for this trophy. As is already mentioned in this post, it is not necessary for you to win a race with each variation of all 6 drivers; just choose any of the 3 female and 3 male drivers and win a race online with each of them.

I might also add that I highly suggest that you work on this trophy while you are boosting either Sand and Sulphur or Surf Turf to avoid unnecessary playthroughs. Please refer to this thread to find a boosting partner.

  • Beat Developer Ghosts on all eight ADRENALINE tracks

The majority of your time will probably be spent getting both the Over Qualified and Further Qualifications trophies. Similar to the advice given in the original trophy guide, the easiest method to defeat the developer ghosts is to first download a ghost from the leaderboards. It will take some practice to keep up with the leaderboard ghost but you should eventually improve over time and manage to defeat the developer ghost.

  • Win an Online race on each of the eight ADRENALINE tracks

You will definitely want to find a boosting partner in this thread for both the Surf and Turf and Sand and Sulphur trophies. I must have played over 300+ ranked races while going for my legendary trophy and only once did I manage to race on a DLC track.

Once you have found a partner to boost with setup a private custom match and start trading wins. Remember to also work towards the Distinguished Character trophy while going for these by quitting and switching your driver between each race.

  • Play a Split-Screen Race on all eight ADRENALINE tracks

You can use the same method for this trophy as you did for Six Splitter. Again, winning is not necessary, all you need is to finish the race and move on to the next. Repeat for all 8 ADRENALINE tracks.

  • Hardcore Freeplay – Win on all eight ADRENALINE tracks (full grid)

Hardcore difficulty is equivalent to playing rank 8 races in the Festival, which means that the opposition will be ruthless and usually flawless in their racing. The trick to making this easier on yourself is to choose the right vehicle both for yourself and the AI. Your own personal vehicle should be the one most suited for the track you are racing, while for the AI you should choose the ATV. Also make sure when you are setting up the Freeplay match you enable all the AI for it to count as a full grid.

Here is an alternative method for this trophy provided by TurboSquirrel:

This is much easier in Eliminator mode. I made a thread elsewhere with some strategies per track. As a general rule, stay as close to the race leader as possible and be sure to have a full tank of boost ready, to overtake him at the last moment.
