Introduction:
MotoGP 18 is the latest title from Milestone with improved graphics and animations and features all 3 tiers of motorbike racing along with the new Red Bull Rookies Cup to add another layer to Career Mode on your journey to become MotoGP world champion!
Championships comprise of 18 races spanning a multitude of real-life global tracks including now Buriram Circuit in Thailand. As players begin their MotoGP careers as rookies in Red Bull Rookies Cup (the fourth tier), they gain experience points from passing development tests in practice before races, qualifying and their final positions after each race. By gaining experience, players level up the ability of their rider in various aspects e.g. cornering, speed and braking. By leveling up and upgrading these abilities, players get better and better response from their bikes and can become more competitive on the quest to become MotoGP champion.
3.5 playthroughs at minimum are required for this Platinum. Fortunately, players can select Very Easy difficulty from the main menu, select the shortest race length (15% aka 3 laps) to substantially speed up the process. Players will want to set race weekends to FULL to pay close attention to development tests and setting pole positions to get all the miscellaneous trophies in one go and after these trophies are out of the way, players can then set race weekends to RACE ONLY to speed up the time.
Players should complete the Rookies Cup and Moto3 championships in full to unlock the location race wins trophies. In Moto2 and MotoGP, players should win races until approximately round 14 (double-check the standings to make sure). After this point, players should retire from the remaining Grand Prix's with the exception of the final race which they need to win to ensure the trophies for winning each championship unlock. Thanks to bristolad for this tip.
MotoGP 18 has 5 online trophies for completing 20 races online, which are super easy to acquire and can be boosted.
General game tips:
- Set the game to Very Easy, shortest race length (15% which is 3 laps), full racing assists, no penalty timer and rewinds on
- You should set the race weekends to FULL RACE WEEKENDS (free practice, qualifying and race) to get the qualifying related trophies out of the way as soon as possible and then once you’ve unlocked these, you can skip testing and qualifying and keep it to “race only” weekends
- If you're unsure of the correct racing line, turn on the full racing trajectory for help
- Lean into the corners before you actually reach them to get the best trajectory and to maintain speed
- Take corners cautiously and avoid going full throttle on entry otherwise you may spin out. The same applies to exiting a corner otherwise the rear end of the bike will lose grip causing you to flip.
Walkthrough:
Step 1: Complete 10 laps in Time Attack mode
From the main menu, enter Time Attack, pick any rider, bike and track and complete 10 laps. See On a hunt for a perfect lap for tips on what constitutes as a valid lap and the quickest way to get these two trophies out of the way.
You will unlock the following:
Lap after Lap
On a hunt for a perfect lap
Step 2: Online
From the main menu, head into Multiplayer, private/public lobby and complete 20 races. You can race in any class, any rider and even boost in private if it suits. Simply complete 20 races and you’ll unlock:
Welcome online
Online Novice
Online Amateur
Online Expert
Online Veteran
Step 3: Win a MotoGP race with tyre wear and pro physics
From the main menu, set up a single race in the MotoGP class with any rider or track of your choosing. Change the race options to: 3 laps aka 15%, pro physics, tyre wear ON, rewinds on and AI to Very Easy. I picked Sachsenring as it’s the shortest track but it’s entirely up to you. Simply complete the 3 laps and win the race to unlock:
Simulation lover
Step 4: Career Mode
Complete Career mode and become MotoGP world champion! Here is a brief strategy for making this as quick as possible and getting all trophies along the way:
- Set races to 3 laps only aka 15%
- AI to Very Easy
- All assists on
- Set race weekends to FULL WEEKENDS (practice, qualifying and race)
Start in Red Bull Rookies Cup and win every race. Start the next season in Moto3 and with every race weekend you should be aiming to complete all the development tests in Free Practice until you complete at least 5 different development tests to unlock “A reliable tester” . You can view Development Tests while in the pit-lane – there are 3 different tests to complete and pass: speed, braking and trajectory. You need to pass all 5 sectors to pass the test. Do this for each race until this trophy unlocks.
After the development tests, achieve pole in qualifying by setting the fastest time on your first lap, head back into the pitlane and then fast forward time by pressing and holding down . After the qualifying session is over, you want to enter and win every race until you’re crowned champion in the Rookies Cup.
Sign a new contract with a Moto3 team for next season and keep setting pole positions until you unlock “Pole Specialist” for setting pole 10 times. After this point, you will have achieved all available development test and pole position related trophies and can now change from race weekends to “Race Only” in the menu before the race weekend. This means you can skip practice and qualifying and just race to speed up time on the way to platinum!
In the Moto3 season, win every single race that you can. You will start at the back of the grid but if you have set the AI to Very Easy, this will be a breeze. You want to win EVERY single race to win all the race location trophies.
After the end of this season, sign with a Moto2 team and win as many races as possible until you are mathematically uncatchable which should be around Round 14. You can check the championship standings before each race to make sure. As soon as you’re uncatchable, you can retire from the remaining Grand Prix's with the exception of the final race which you need to win to ensure the trophies for winning each championship unlock. Thanks to bristolad for this tip.
Rinse and repeat the above step for the next season but for MotoGP class and voila! You’ll be MotoGP World Champion!
