Introduction:

Welcome to MLB: The Show 22, the annual official baseball simulation game, in which you get to be a part of Major League Baseball! Veterans of the series will feel right at home in this year's iteration as it continues the long line of yearly MLB: The Show games, but it's a good title for beginners as well as the platinum is very achievable. This year, the game focuses a lot more on solo-based gaming rather than online, evidenced by 22's trophy list which has only 2 very quick online-required trophies. They also made the game and thus the Platinum much easier as you can play on lower difficulties and adjust sliders heavily in your favor.

Walkthrough:

The trophy list this year is the same on both the PS4 and PS5 versions, so if you own both versions you can use the same tips for both. You will not be required to play above Rookie difficulty for any trophy this year. You can edit sliders from the main menu by going to the upper right gear and changing the sliders to minimum or maximum to make most trophies a lot easier to achieve. You can do most trophies in any mode, but for the case of this guide I will be using exhibition mode.

Stage 1: Dynamic Difficulty Related Trophies
In this stage you will be focused on obtaining the 6 trophies related to dynamic difficulty, it is recommended to do this first, as if you save this for last and play well when you load up dynamic difficulty, you may start on a difficulty higher than rookie and make it a little more difficult to achieve these trophies.

In this stage you will earn:

Bat Dabbler! trophy_bronze.png
Minor Batting Adjustments! trophy_silver.png
Batting Rook! trophy_gold.png
Pitching Dabbler! trophy_bronze.png
Minor Pitching Adjustments! trophy_silver.png
Pitching Rook! trophy_gold.png

Stage 2: Online Trophies
The online trophies are very quick, so now that you have completed the dynamic difficulty related trophies, create a Diamond Dynasty team and play 1 online co-op game.

In this stage you will earn:

The Portal is Open! trophy_bronze.png
Did we just become friends? trophy_silver.png

Stage 3: Beginner Difficulty
In this stage, you will focus on getting all remaining trophies while playing on beginner difficulty and setting the sliders in your favor.

In this stage you will earn:

  • Earn all of The Show™ 22 Trophies.

Like always, earn all other trophies to earn the Platinum.
  • In any stadium, hit an inside the park home run. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

The easiest stadium to do this in is the Polo Grounds Classic Stadium, as it has very large gaps. Playing on beginner difficulty and raising hitting sliders to maximum will make this easy to achieve. Run around all 4 bases as the batter without the ball going over the fence to hit an inside the park home run.

For a video guide, please see: Four-bagger Express! Video Guide
  • Hit a home run with any starting pitcher. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

Start a game with the Angels and choose any pitcher besides Shoehei Othani. Now when setting your lineup, scroll down the bench and you will see that you can put Ohtani in the field. Put him at any position and bat him first and hit a home-run. Playing on beginner with human power and human timing set to maximum will make this easier. Note that you don't have to do this with Ohtani, but he is the easiest pitcher to do it with if you don't want to edit one.

For a video guide, please see: Big Fly Ohtani San! Video Guide
  • Achieve a hit, a single or better from both sides of the plate with the same batter in a single game. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

In order to achieve this, you need to use a switch hitter denoted with an S in the lineup. You will want to face a team that has a lot of pitchers who pitch from the same side, so if a team has a lot of right-handed pitchers in the bullpen, have a lefty start the game for them. You will need to get at least 2 hits; 1 versus a left hand pitcher where you bat righty, and 1 versus a right hand pitcher where you bat lefty. Playing on beginner with all human hitting sliders set to max will make this easier. You can also use player lock (r2.png) to only so you only do the at bats of one player to try and speed this up.

For a video guide, please see: Double-sided Bat Flip! Video Guide
  • Achieve a hit while using PCI Anchor. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

PCI Anchor is only allowed with zone hitting, and you must make sure it is turned on under the Batting & Base-running settings. Now press l3.png to bring up the anchor now, then press l3.png again and in the direction where you want the anchor to be to move it around to a different quadrant of the plate and get a hit. Playing on hitting difficulty-beginner should make this easy as the pitch will be right over the plate. Increasing human contact, power, timing, and solid hits can be used to your benefit here as well.

  • Promote to Rookie pitching difficulty in Dynamic Difficulty.

    (Difficulty)

First thing you need to do it set the difficulty to dynamic. You will start at beginner difficulty, which is the lowest difficulty in the game. Each difficulty has two levels, so for this trophy you will have to go through the following levels:
    1. Beginner,
    2. Beginner +,
    3. Amateur,
    4. Amateur +,
    5. Minors,
    6. Minors +,
    7. to then finally reach Rookie.
As you increase levels, the A.I. will improve and it will be more difficult to rank up. You will want to adjust the dynamic difficulty sensitivity slider and set it to maximum to speed up how fast you progress. Take a team you want to use and edit the starting pitcher and make him a 99 overall to make this easier, and edit your opponent to all 0s. That way, you should have no issues dominating the opponent and should earn this trophy in the middle of the second game.

You can set the following sliders to maximum: Human Starter Stamina, Human Reliever Stamina, Human Pitcher Control and Human Pitcher Consistency. Set all CPU sliders to minimum and you can also set Fielding related sliders to maximum and baserunner sliders to minimum. Under general settings, you can set dynamic difficulty updates to progress to see how close you are to ranking up after each play. If you are struggling and losing levels, you can XMB quit to prevent the game from counting as long as you do it before the game finishes.

Note: If you start a game on dynamic difficulty and are already above Rookie difficulty, you will need to change your settings preset. There are 3 settings presets: Casual, simulation, and competitive. So if you have been playing on Casual, go to Settings and, using l1.png and r1.png, change the settings preset to Simulation or Competitive, after which you can change the difficulty to dynamic to revert back to beginner.

  • Promote to Rookie batting difficulty in Dynamic Difficulty.

    (Difficulty)

First thing you need to do it set the difficulty to dynamic. You will start at beginner difficulty, which is the lowest difficulty in the game. Each difficulty has two levels, so for this trophy you will have to go through the following levels:

You will want to adjust the dynamic difficulty sensitivity slider and set it to maximum to speed up how fast you progress. Take a team you want to use and edit the starting pitcher and make him a 99 overall to make this easier, and edit your opponent to all 0s. Now you should have no issues dominating the opponent and should earn this trophy by the end of the game.

You can set the following sliders to maximum: Human Contact, Human Power, Human Timing, Human Foul Frequency, and Human Solid Hits. Set all CPU sliders and Fielding related sliders to minimum, and set Base-runner sliders to maximum. Under general settings, you can set dynamic difficulty updates to progress to see how close you are to ranking up after each play. If you are struggling and losing levels, you can XMB quit to prevent the game from counting as long as you do it before the game finishes.

  • Throw more than 60% first-pitch strikes in a complete-game victory. (Must be done in a full, uninterrupted, 9 inning game. The trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, by switching teams, by simulating, and excludes DD moments.)

This trophy is pretty simple. All you need to do is play on beginner difficulty and on the first pitch of each at bat, make sure to throw the ball right down the middle to ensure you achieve a first pitch strike. Then simply play as normal otherwise and have your starting pitcher pitch the whole game and win without using fast-forwarding.

For a video guide, please see: Professional Framer! Video Guide
  • Turn two double plays within a complete game. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

You may earn this trophy naturally. In order to turn a double play, you must get two outs on one play. This means a runner must be on base, so start a game and intentionally walk the lead off hitter with l1.png + circle.png, then try to get the next hitter to hit a ground ball on the infield, and throw the runner out going to second and the batter running to first to get a double play. Simply repeat this a second time to get the trophy. You can set your fielding sliders to maximum and base-runner speed to minimum to make this slightly easier.

For a video guide, please see: Flashing the Leather Video Guide
  • While pitching, strike out a batter with a pitch outside the zone. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

This will happen naturally most likely; all you need to do when you have 2 strikes on a batter is throw any pitch outside of the strike zone and have them swing and miss for strike 3. If you need help achieving this, you can lower the CPU's contact, timing, and foul frequency sliders.

For a video guide, please see: Just a bit outside... Video Guide
  • Strikeout the same batter three times within a game. (Must be done in a full, uninterrupted, 9 inning game. The trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, by switching teams, by simulating, and excludes DD moments)

This trophy is easily done on beginner difficulty. You can also lower the CPU's sliders for contact, timing, power, and foul frequency to help produce more swings and misses. You can also raise human pitching control and stamina sliders as well.

Start a game against a double-A team using an All Star team and you should be able to overpower the hitters with fastballs for strikes; get 3 strikes to strikeout the hitter for 3 different at bats in one game. If you reach towards the end of the game, you can intentionally walk hitters (l1.png + circle.png) until you face a batter you have struck out twice already. As long as it isn't the bottom of the 9th, you can keep walking everyone until you strike out that batter for the third time.

For a video guide, please see: Sombrero Dealer! Video Guide
  • Enter into any co-op game. (Enter a co-op exhibition game with a friend or random player.)

    (Online Required)

This trophy refers to online co-op only (local will not get it to pop), so choose online co-op from the menu, and pick 2 vs 2 as it requires less players. If you are selected as the Captain, just keep accepting the default settings to try and get the game started ASAP, as a lot of people back out while in the Menu. Then simply wait for the game to load and the trophy will be yours before the first pitch.

  • Collect three stolen bases within a complete game. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

To steal a base, you must first get on base as a hitter, and while the pitcher throws a pitch, you run to the next base and make it there safely. I recommend using Rickey Henderson of the Long Ball Beasts as he has a 99 speed. Setting the base-runner speed slider to maximum and the fielding related sliders to minimum will also help. Now, once you reach base, use l2.png to try and steal second and third base as soon as possible. You can try to speed this up by player-locking as Henderson before to just do his at bats, but make sure to set player-lock base-running opportunities to ALL.

  • Achieve a perfect-perfect hit for a home run. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

Play on beginner difficulty and set the Human contact, power, timing, and solid hits sliders to maximum. Now, as a batter, to get a perfect-perfect hit can be a bit of luck, but using higher level players such as an All Star team can make it easier to achieve. Playing in a smaller stadium such as the Yankees, Phillies, or Reds can also make this easier to achieve, as the dimensions aren't as large as some other ballparks.

For a video guide, please see: Big Fly! Video Guide.
  • Trigger a perfect pinpoint accuracy pitch that strikes out a batter looking. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

First you must set pitching to Pinpoint accuracy and set the difficulty to beginner, which will make it easier. You are judged on three different things when using pinpoint pitching, these being Accuracy (how accurate you are hitting the first location), Timing (how early or late you are moving the ball from the first location to the second), and lastly, the Angle (left or right of the targeting going from the first location to the second). It will take a bit of time getting used to pitching this way, so I recommend using a pitcher in practice mode to get used to it first. Once you're ready, you'll want to set the pitcher control and consistency sliders to maximum and set all the CPU hitters' sliders to minimum.

You will need to get 2 strikes on a batter and then on the third pitch, have it be in the strike zone and have them not swing at it for Strike 3. This can be a little luck based as the CPUs usually swing at pitches in the strike zone. In order to pitch a perfect pitch, I recommend sticking to the 4 Seam Fast Ball as the angle is easier to do in my opinion. For a perfect pitch, you don't need 100% accuracy, perfect timing, and the perfect angle; what you are looking to get is 70% accuracy, a time of 0.10 seconds or better, and an angle of 5 degrees or less. You will know you threw a perfect pitch because all three will light up blue and the word "Perfect" will pop up on the screen.

  • Hit a home run off a pitch going 100 mph or more. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

Play on beginner difficulty and set the human contact, power, timing, and solid hits to maximum. You will have to find a pitcher who throws at 100 mph or more. Two good pitchers to face are Emmanuel Clase of the Cleveland Guardians or Jacob DeGrom of the Mets, as they both consistently throw between 98-101 mph.

  • Create a Diamond Dynasty team.

    (Online Required)

Scroll down on the main menu to Diamond Dynasty and select the colors and team name you would like to use. Once you do that, the trophy will pop.

Note: This trophy appears to be glitchy if you already earned it on the PS4 first and then try to get it on the PS5, or vice versa. If you run into this issue, try unlinking your account in the Profile section, but be warned, you will lose all your Diamond Dynasty progress on one of the systems.

For a video guide, please see: The Portal is Open! Video Guide
  • As a batter, get on base by a hit by pitch (HBP). (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

This trophy can be earned naturally just by playing the game, but an easy way to earn this is by playing Retro Mode, as you can move in and crowd the plate by pushing l3.png towards home plate. You should wait to move your player until after the pitch is released, that way the pitcher can't adjust to your new position.

For a video guide, please see: Don't rub it! Video Guide
  • As a batter, record an out on a perfect-perfect hit. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

This can be a little luck based, as usually a perfect-perfect hit will result in a hit, but the best ways to get a perfect-perfect is by playing on beginner difficulty and setting the human hitter contact and timing sliders to maximum. Setting the fielder runner speed and reaction sliders to maximum can also help.

This can also happen naturally, so you may want to save it until you only have a few trophies left.

For a video guide, please see: Ugly Finder! Video Guide
  • In any mode, earn a save with your closer to win the game. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

Play a 3 inning game on beginner difficulty with all sliders in your favor, and take a 1, 2, or 3 run lead. Use your starting pitcher for the first 2 innings, and then with your lead, bring in your Closer from the bullpen (CP) and hold the lead to win the game. Being up 4 or more runs will prevent you from getting the save, so make sure to be winning by only 3 runs or less.

For a video guide, please see: Bring in the Closer! Video Guide
  • With a runner on base, achieve a perfect-perfect hit and score a run. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

Play on beginner difficulty and set the Human contact, power, timing and solid hits sliders to maximum. First you'll need to get a runner on base, and then as a batter, get a perfect-perfect hit. This can be a bit of luck, but using higher level players such as an All Star team can make it easier to achieve. Playing in a stadium such as the classic stadium the Polo Grounds can also make this easier, as the large gaps should make it easier to get that runner to score.

For a video guide, please see: Ribbie! Video Guide
  • As a fielder, catch a 110mph or harder hit baseball for an out. (This trophy is not awarded if completed in a local multiplayer game, practice mode, or by switching teams.)

This might be the most frustrating trophy in the game or the easiest. With that being said, you should save your attempts at it until you have most, if not all of the other trophies. You need to catch a line driver or fly ball that is going over 110 mph off the hitter's bat. You can see how fast the hit was under the exit velocity after the ball was put in play. The best way to attempt this is by using a pitcher who throws 100 mph or more, such as Jacob DeGrom of the Mets. Now start a game in a stadium such as Colorado, where balls are supposed to travel further, and throw fastballs near the middle region of the plate. Eventually you should get a line drive caught thats over 110 mph.

To try and improve this probability, you can set the CPU's contact, timing, solid hits, and power sliders to maximum, and set fielder run speed and fielder reaction to maximum, and fielding errors to minimum. If you are still having difficulty, you can try playing on Retro Mode with the same settings as the arcade style, which may lead to faster balls being hit.
