Section 02. Introduction
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is an off-shoot game from the Metal Gear series; instead of featuring one of the Snake characters, it focuses on Raiden after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4. With the change of character comes a change of gameplay and it requires patience and mastery to pull off.
Section 2.1 - What to know
This section will cover the various ways to make your road to platinum easier.

Cheat Code
Being a Konami game there is a code to use which unlocks all difficulties from the start. Without using this code you would have to clear the game at least 3 times to earn the platinum.
At the Press Start screen:

Parry, Just-Defend, and Unblockables
A key action in this game is the parry, you activate the parry by pressing the

If you activate your parry at the last possible moment before getting hit, you will activate a Just-Defend (also called Perfect Parry or Parry Counter). During a Just-Defend, Raiden will automatically follow up with a counter-attack. This gives Raiden invincibility frames and deals massive damage to enemies when playing on Revengeance Difficulty.
Some enemies have unblockable attacks, you cannot use parry or just-defend to protect yourself. You will have to avoid the enemy attack to mitigate damage. You can always anticipate an unblockable attack as the enemy will glow yellow during their telegraph.
Section 03. Walkthrough
While it is possible to get everything possible in one run through by using the cheat code, it is not advisable as Revengeance difficulty is very difficult to clear and you should use the lower difficulties to practice your skills. You will also need to play more than once to earn enough BP to unlock and power up your gear which can make Revengeance easier, as well as earn you a trophy. You earn BP in numerous ways, most of which are combat related. In ranked battles you earn BP based on your time, kills, combos, and zandatsu counts. You can also earn BP by collecting items you're currently full on and by clearing the mission. The two big trophies in this game are Stormbringer for finishing Revengeance Difficulty with all S-Ranks and Virtually Flawless for clearing all 20 VR Missions while beating the #1 place rank.
Section 3.1 - First Playthrough (Normal)
Whether you choose to use the code or not, I advise playing your first game on Normal. This will keep enemy damage low and will allow you to learn their attacks without having the auto-assist on. During this playthrough you should focus on earning all collectibles to get them out of the way and gain access to most of the unlockable gear. You should also work towards the mission specific trophies; Steel Tail, No Flash Photography!, Dwarf Raiden, Love at First Sight, A Walk in the Dark, Menace to Society, Great Escape, and Surprise Attack! Since this is your first playthrough I recommend taking it slow and working on Amateur Radio Operator as well. You may not get it on this playthrough, but it carries over and can be completed on subsequent playthroughs. You should also take notice of the one glitched trophy Tearing Away the Disguise, if you can't earn it this playthrough you can on subsequent playthroughs.
Trophies Earned

Section 3.2 - Second Playthrough (Hard)
After the credits and the game saves, do not select "New Game" on the main menu. To move to the next difficulty you can choose "Chapter" or "Continue." You should use this playthrough to get used to the increase in enemy aggressiveness as well as their increased attack power. You can also use this playthrough to pick up any collectibles you missed on the previous playthrough. As long as you've collected everything you'll have a majority of your unlockables available to you as well as earning a few more trophies. Since you are on Hard difficulty you can attempt to earn No Damage against the bosses; however, you'll need to have an immaculate run on Revengeance Difficulty so it's not a requirement for this run.

Section 3.3 - VR Missions
Instead of moving on to the next difficulty you should jump into the VR Missions. This will unlock more gear and give you the three armors that give you combat stat boosts as well as BP for customization.

Section 3.4 - Final Playthrough (Revengeance)
After you clear the VR Missions you'll have access to all the gear that can make your Revengeance playthrough easier. You will either have played through Very Hard, or used the Konami Code to immediately unlock Revengeance. Optimize your gear and steel yourself because this difficulty is unrelenting and you will have to earn an S-Rank across all missions. Since this is your S Rank playthrough, you should focus on earning the boss specific trophies if you haven't already. Earning a No Damage Bonus sounds difficult, but with an understanding of the game mechanics and how the bosses work it's plenty manageable. If there's anything left after this go back and clean up.

The VR Mission Expansion is a throw back to the previous Metal Gear games, where there were a plethora of VR Missions to play with. While not as numerous as the past incarnations, these are in no way less difficult to manage. Much like the original 20 VR Missions in the main game, these have your stats and weapons severely limited to 100% Health, 1 Fuel Cell, and Unique Weapons, unless the mission specifies otherwise.
Section 2.1 - The Mission Types
A new feature to VR Missions in this DLC is the use of a Dwarf Gekko; its features are identical to the one Raiden used during the main game. While it is lower to the ground, it is also a lot less sturdy and plenty weaker. Many of the missions feature using the Dwarf Gekko so do not assume every mission will have you playing as Raiden.
Below is a description of the mission objectives and what they entail;
Control the Dwarf Gekko to the specified waypoint or Arrive at the specified waypoint.
This mission type is simply to get from one place to another. The mission objective will detail you playing as a Dwarf Gekko, otherwise you'll be playing as Raiden.
Arrive at the specified waypoint without being detected.
These are just like the above missions but with the caveat of not triggering an alert. These missions only feature Raiden so you'll have more mobility at your disposal when attempting these.
Incapacitate all cyborgs or Eliminate all enemies via Ninja Kill.
This is a stealth mission where you'll have to defeat all enemies without being detected. The way to differentiate between the Dwarf Gekko and Raiden is the Gekko can only incapacitate, whereas Raiden has the Ninja Kill. With either character the method is the same, get behind or above an unaware enemy and use the

Destroy all the targets.
This is a Raiden only type mission as the Dwarf Gekko lacks the ability to destroy enemies. As the mission objective says, simply destroy every enemy to clear the mission.
Eliminate all enemies using the supplied sub-weapon.
This is a Raiden only type mission as the Dwarf Gekko cannot use sub-weapons. As said you need to destroy all the enemies and while it may not sound that difficult some missions can be. Some missions have aggressive enemies attacking you but with your primary weapon sealed, you cannot parry or just-defend; so your only defense is to jump or run away from the enemies.
Eliminate all enemies via Zandatsu.
This is a Raiden only type mission as the Dwarf Gekko cannot Zandatsu. While this mission type sounds easy enough it can be one of the more frustrating mission types. This is due to the number of mines placed around the area and the enemy's ability to walk off the platforms; both are ways for the enemy to kill themselves. If they die from something other than a Zandatsu, you'll fail the mission.
Section 2.2 - The AI problem
There is a problem with the AI in this DLC which can make some missions extremely difficult. Many of the missions have a dark filter to simulate it being night time, for some reason many of the cyborgs get enhanced detection in these missions. The enhanced detection isn't stable as they only seem to detect you at random times, so be wary of the guards.
There is also a problem with enemies killing themselves. While this doesn't seem like much of a problem, it is when the mission calls for every enemy to die by a Zandatsu. In these VR Missions there are numerous mines in most of the missions that kill on contact. There are also no walls to hold you back from falling off platforms. Both of these can severely hinder your progress as enemies will routinely kill themselves and ruin your mission attempts.
As with falling there are also a few problems built into the DLC. Raiden can fall numerous times and it won't kill him, just waste time. While specific missions will allow enemies to fall and have you fail your mission, other missions will have invisible walls preventing the enemies from falling to their death. Whether this is a flaw or intentional isn't known, but it's a glaring problem when you're trying alternative combat methods.
Section 03. Walkthrough
Unlike the main game VR Missions, you do not have to find any VR Terminals in the game to have access to these missions. After downloading and installing the DLC, the VR Missions tab on the Main Menu should be red; identifying it as having the DLC available to play. Go into the VR Missions and scroll down past the original 20 Missions to reach the new 30. From here you can perform the missions in any order you want, so go ahead and choose. There are two ways to attempt this DLC so I will address both of them below. Just remember that you will have to earn 1st place marks in all 30 of the missions to earn the two trophies. You're free to play however you want, just stay focused and don't give up.
Section 3.1 - Play through, go back
This style of play is where you play the missions through, not concerning yourself with the time you originally set. You'll just want to feel how each mission is before deciding which ones to focus on. You're free to jump around and go as you wish. Playing like this can result in you taking longer to earn the trophies as you'll be dividing your efforts instead of building your skill in a specific mission. With this play style you're bound to earn DL-VR Master well before you earn Hero of the Metaverse. Either style is fine as long as you get both trophies in the end.
Section 3.2 - Play it until you get it
This style of play is where you play a single mission over and over until you earn top marks in that mission. Despite offering the faster acquisition of trophies, this play style can often result in raging or burnout, so if this is your style of play I recommend taking a break every now and then during your attempts. With this play style you'll probably earn DL-VR Master shortly before Hero of the Metaverse. Either style is fine as long as you get both trophies in the end.

The Sam Side Story is a single mission dedicated to Jetstream Sam before he joined up with Desperado. While not entirely different from Raiden, Sam has several major differences from Raiden which help set him apart and helps give this DLC a different feel from the main game.
Section 2.1 - Lightning Ninja to Jetstream Samurai
The changes from Raiden to Sam are numerous, the drastic ones should be noted.
What Sam Has
Sam has a myriad of regular techniques Raiden has; Blade Mode, Zandatsu, Parry, Execute, Just-Defend, Aerial Parry, Aerial Combo, Sub-Weapons, and Command Dodge

What's New
Sam's one new noteworthy ability is his taunt; press

While the cons seem to outweigh the pros this brings up another important fact about Sam, his attacks are very weak when compared to other characters. Enraging an enemy makes them easier for him to dispatch, but you must be careful to not get overrun and taken down. If you're good at parrying, you can actually hold your health at 00.1%. If you can't keep up your parry, be sure to use the Command Dodge to protect yourself.
While Sam has a basic four hit combo via

Outside of his combat abilities, Sam can double jump and perform a dash in mid-air. To double jump, simply press

The final change isn't about Sam but the enemies; they're suped up and a lot more aggressive in this mission when compared to other parts of the game. Some of which have also been given new AI's to change the basic idea of combat.
What's Missing
As stated above, Sam isn't very strong with his basic attacks and so you should strategize if/when to use Taunt and think about if it will make your time easier or more difficult. Along with the taunt he's given up AR Mode as

Sam is also missing the ability to perform an aerial combo. The most he can hit while airborne is twice with a

Since he's modeled after a Samurai, Sam works with some honor and will not Assassinate an enemy. You're free to use Zandatsu on an enemy who's unaware, but you cannot use

Section 2.2 - Collectibles
While most of the 4 trophies in this DLC are easy to earn with some skill, there is an assortment of collectibles in the mission. While they have no trophy related to them, earning the life and energy collectibles can make your time in this DLC easier.
The collectibles guide can be found here: Collectible Data
Section 03. Walkthrough
While it is possible to get most trophies in one go, I strongly advise against it as the enemy difficulty has been ramped up for this DLC, and to make matters worse the last boss is a massive pain to deal with. I'm recommending to go with a 3 part playthrough; the first to familiarize yourself with the mission, the second to go up one difficulty to get the boss trophy, and then one more time to handle the Revengeance difficulty. Outside of that you may need to play a bit more to farm kills for Draw, Pardner!
Section 3.1 - First Playthrough (Normal)
Use this playthrough to just familiarize yourself with how Sam operates and the mission. You'll end up fighting 3 bosses as you go and while you've defeated them all as Raiden, it'd be wise to take note of the changes they exhibit here. While you're still getting used to everything and the enemies are weak, perform as many quickdraw kills as you can to work on Draw, Pardner!
Trophies Earned

Section 3.2 - Second Playthrough (Hard)
This playthrough you're going for the No Damage Boss Kill, while it's possible to do it in combination with the Revengeance Trophy, it's safer and much easier to accomplish on the lower applicable difficulty. Aside from that, work your way through the mission and continue to wrack up your quickdraw kills.
Trophies Earned

Section 3.3 - Third Playthrough (Revengeance)
This playthrough you're going for the 1 Hour Revengeance Trophy. Survival should be your primary concern as the enemies do not mess around here, especially the final boss. Be sure to have a nanopaste equipped and restart a checkpoint if a battle isn't going your way. This will prevent you from compiling time due to deaths.
Trophies Earned

Section 3.4 - Clean up
This is only applicable if you've yet to earn Draw, Pardner! If you've yet to earn it, play again on Easy and be sure to kill everything you come across with a quickdraw kill. How long this takes depends solely on how many you've earned while earning the other trophies.

The Wolf Side Story is a single mission dedicated to Blade Wolf before he was defeated by Raiden. While not entirely different from Raiden, Wolf has several differences which help set him apart, giving this DLC a different feel from the main game. Unlike the Sam DLC, the enemies are not souped up to ridiculously deadly levels.
Section 2.1 - Lightning Ninja to Blade Wolf
The changes from Raiden to Wolf are few but should be noted.
What Wolf Has
Wolf has a myriad of regular techniques Raiden has; Blade Mode, Zandatsu, Parry, Execute, Just-Defend, Aerial Parry, Aerial Combo, Assassination Kill (Now Called Hunt Kill), Most Sub-Weapons (No Stinger or RPG), AR Mode, Command Dodge

What's New
Wolf's one new ability is a crouch stance which is activated by pressing

Wolf also has two unique scoring mechanics in his Rated Battles; these being Hunt Kills and No Alert. In Wolf's Rated Battles he can actually go the entire battle without being seen at all and still earn points, unlike Raiden who merely gets praise from a support character. With Wolf, instead of Assassination Kills he calls them Hunt Kills; they are the same thing however. Wolf can also go an entire Rated Battle without being seen, this will earn him the No Alert Bonus. So unlike Raiden or Sam, Wolf actually gets rewarded for being stealthy in battle and it is actually possible to make it through the entire mission without setting off a single Alert.
What's Missing
While Wolf has a few new tricks from Raiden, he is lacking in combo variation when compared to Raiden or Sam. He is very combat capable, but very limited on his assortment of attacks.
Section 2.2 - Collectibles
While the 4 trophies in this DLC are easy to earn with some skill, there is an assortment of collectibles in the mission. While they have no trophy related to them, earning the life and energy collectibles can make your time in this DLC easier.
The collectibles guide can be found here: Collectible Data
Section 03. Walkthrough
While it is possible to get everything done in one go, I'd recommend playing the DLC at least twice. First to familiarize yourself with the DLC and then again to earn the difficulty related trophies. The DLC operates off your progress in the main game, so if you haven't unlocked Revengeance difficulty you will need to input the Konami Code (detailed in the core game Roadmap), or go through the Main Game or DLC multiple times to do so.
Section 3.1 - First Playthrough
While it may not sound logical, I'd recommend beginning your playthrough on Hard. The reason for this is two fold, first is to familiarize yourself with the DLC and second is the boss at the end isn't too difficult so you should have no problem earning the Boss related trophy as well. Even if you don't earn it on this playthrough, you should focus on getting as many Hunt Kills as possible for Predatory Instincts. These are the same as Raiden's Assassination Kills and this trophy stacks through playthroughs.
Trophies Earned

Section 3.2 - Revengeance Playthrough
While there is no trophy for it, if you're having trouble using Wolf in combat you can go ahead and focus on getting a complete stealth playthrough to make this run much easier. Whether you do or not, you should focus on earning enough Hunt Kills to finish the trophy for it. Outside of that you have 60 minutes to clear the entire mission. While it's not overly difficult you can lose a lot of time by dying repeatedly, which is another reason a complete stealth playthrough would be good. Whichever route you decide to use, just be sure to earn enough Hunt Kills and clear the Mission within 60 minutes and the final 2 trophies are yours.
