Introduction

Welcome to LEGO City Undercover, a port of the Wii U version that came out a few years ago. There isn’t too much of a difference from the Wii U version to the PS4 version with the exception of a few added character and vehicle tokens and the removal of all things Mario. LEGO City Undercover has an interesting story mode that gets a little dragged down as you get into the large open world. Despite the game crashes this game is a lot of fun and is definitely worth checking out.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Complete all 15 Chapters and Special Assignments (Make sure you collect the Rex Fury token in Special Assignment 15)

The levels in LEGO City Undercover are setup a little differently than other LEGO games. This time there are 15 chapters throughout the game, with Special Assignments scattered throughout. The Special Assignments are the normal “levels” that you would expect from other LEGO games. Not every chapter has a Special Assignment and some chapters will have two. While you’re playing through the Special Assignments, you should try to collect all possible collectibles to save time later on. Also, while going through Special Assignment #15 make sure you pick up the Rex Fury Token towards the end of the level, see the collectible guide for its exact location. Once you completed all 15 chapters you can start preparing for Free Play mode.

*As you collect red bricks be sure to go into the extras menu and turn ON the red bricks to get their effect right away*

Step 2: Prepare for Free Play

To prepare for Free Play, you will first need to make sure you have picked up the Rex Fury character token from Special Assignment 15 and purchased him for 1,000,000 studs. You can purchase him by pulling up the character selection menu by holding and then going into the Robber character menu. Once you have purchased him, make sure you set him as your Robber Character.

Next you will want to obtain the Super Color Gun Red Brick. This red brick will make your color gun always fire the right color, removing the need to find the correct color swapper and ultimately saving you a ton of time. The Super Color Gun Red Brick is located Uptown on top of the toy store. To get to the top you will first need to find the green color for the gun. I used the color swapper in the museum in the north west corner; you pass by the room with all the colors on the way to a Special Assignment. After you change the two switches to green, head to the top and go left and use the teleporter. Once you have obtained both the Rex Fury character token and the Super Color Gun Red Brick you can then start replaying the levels.

Step 3: Collect all collectibles in the Special Assignments

Now that you have what you need for Free Play you can go back through all the Special Assignments and get all of the character tokens, vehicle tokens, red bricks, and police shield pieces that you didn’t get in story mode. Once you have collected all the collectibles in a level you can quit out of the level and all of the collectibles will still count.

I have written a Special Assignments collectibles guide to help you.

Step 4: Complete all Character and City challenges and collect all collectibles in the open world

*Before starting the Free Roam Collectibles/Challenges you may want to collect the Fast Travel Red Brick from LEGO City Airport. It allows you to fast travel to any train station saving you time when traveling across the map.*

This is where you will be spending the majority of your time as there are 405 gold bricks to collect throughout the world. For a full breakdown of all the gold bricks refer to Super Compuper. During this step you will complete all character challenges, city challenges, collect all red bricks, and find all the secret shields and skullptures.

packattack04082 has made video guides for all Free Roam collectibles HERE.

Step 5: Cleanup any Miscellaneous Trophies that you may have missed

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to gather any of the miscellaneous trophies in the game like Daredevil, True Tourist, Steel Surfer etc.

Upon Completion of this step you will have a shiny new Platinum Trophy. Congratulations!!!

Glitches

I did encounter a few glitches while playing through the game that you should be aware of with a fix if I know of one:

- Game Crashes: They're going to happen quite a bit, so just try to save as much as possible by gather a collectible or something of that nature.

- I encountered a glitch where I couldn’t interact with a helicopter pad, if this happens you’ll have to close out and restart the game.

- There also seems to be a glitch where certain icon will not appear when using the Data Scan Red Bricks, particularly for Trouserless Barry in Bluebell National Park and possibly others. Try to follow along with the guide as much as possible and you will hopefully save yourself some trouble.

- There was also glitch where the start point for a vehicle robbery disappeared. If this happens, just fast travel back to the area, if you can, or just leave and come back and it should fix it.

  • Complete all Free Run Challenges

There are a total of 19 Free Run Challenges to complete; they will begin to appear on your map upon completion of Chapter 5. A few of the Free Run challenges will be unlocked upon completion of special assignments/chapters, the rest of them you will have to unlock through exploration. To unlock a Free Run Challenge you must collect the Free Run token, which is usually at or near the end of where the actual Free Run challenge would end. The easiest way to find them is to use the Data Scan Challenge Red Brick and then scan an area to see where the nearest one to you is. Once you have collected or unlocked a challenge, simply head to the starting point and then complete the race. Most of the races are extremely easy and you should have no problem completing them with more than enough time left.

A few things to note are that you have to actually collect all of the clocks to unlock the end of the challenge. If you are familiar with the race then you can use the Astronaut Jetpack (unlocked in Chapter 13) to skip sections and save yourself some time, as long as you don’t skip a clock.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Vehicle Races

There are 16 Vehicle races to be completed that are scattered around the map. Most of these races are incredibly easy and will leave you with way more than enough time to complete them. You will more than likely come across a lot of the vehicle races while collecting/completing other things but If you’re still missing one in an area then you can use the Data Scan Red Brick to scan the area and find it.

In a few of the areas, the vehicle races will not spawn until you have built the corresponding Stunt Ramp. This most notably happens in Fresco (you need to build a stunt ramp in Paradise Sands first) and Bluebell National Park (you need to build a stunt ramp in the same area first).

It is worth noting that if you flip your vehicle you CANNOT flip it back over, essentially making you fail the race, so as you are driving do your best to avoid hitting things and be careful when you’re coming off jumps that you don’t land too badly. If this does happen to you, simply enter the menu and then retry the challenge.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Police City Challenges

There are two different police city challenges to complete: Vehicle Robbers to Arrest (Vehicle Icon) and Gangs to Arrest (Robber Icon). There are 12 Vehicle Robbers to arrest (represented by an orange police icon on the map) and 16 Gangs to arrest (represented by a green police icon on the map). If you’re having trouble finding any of these, you can use the Data Scan Red Bricks to find them in the area.

To complete the Vehicle Robber Arrests, you simply scan and find the vehicle robber and then hold to lock on to him. Once you lock onto him he will get in a vehicle and drive away. Most of the time the game will drop a vehicle for you to get in and chase after him, otherwise you can just steal one or call one in and chase after him. Once you catch up to him, simply keep bumping into him until the vehicle is destroyed. Once his vehicle is destroyed, he will run away; simply chase after him and then hit to arrest him and complete the challenge.

To complete the Gang Arrests, use your audio scanner and find the one that is scrambled. Once you find it, simply hold and it will begin the challenge. Once the audio ends, you will have to run to the start point that appears; if you can’t find it then you can pull up the map and mark it. You should have enough time to comfortably get to each one; remember that you can always hop in a vehicle to save time. Once you get to the start point, you will then have to arrest four of the five robbers. Once you arrest four, the fifth will run away and you will have to chase him and hit when you get near him to arrest him and complete the challenge.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Robber City Challenges

There are two different Robber City Challenges to complete: 13 vehicles to steal and drop off and 18 ATMs to smash. If you are having trouble locating one of the challenges, you can use the Data Scan Red Brick to find them in the area.

For the vehicle drop off challenges, you will usually have to break into a garage to begin the challenge and then drive the vehicle to the drop off point while avoiding cops. These challenges are very easy and basically come down to just driving and occasionally swerving around a cop car. Once you drive into the drop off point, the challenge will end.

For smashing the ATMs, all you have to do is walk up to the ATM and interact with it with and then repeatedly tap to beat up the ATM.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Miner City Challenges

The Miner City Challenges consist of smashing 22 grey boulders with flowers around them and destroying 17 silver statues. The easiest way to find these challenges is to use the Data Scan Red Bricks to locate the challenges in an area.

The Smashing Boulders challenge is very easy and simply consists of smashing a boulder with a mining character. Some of the grey boulders are out in the open and easy to find, while some will be hidden within a group of black boulders.

The silver statue challenge is also pretty simple, and consists of placing dynamite in front of the statue. You can do these as you progress through the game but it is way easier to wait until you have the Unlimited Dynamite Red Brick to avoid having to find the dynamite vending machines. Once you find the dynamite or have the red brick, simply walk up and place the dynamite and the challenge will be complete.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Astronaut City Challenges

There are two different Astronaut City Challenges to complete: 17 Aliens to Catch and 20 Districts to Conquer. If you are having trouble finding these challenges, then be sure to use the Data Scan Red Bricks to locate them in the area.

The catching aliens challenge consists of activating an Astronaut puzzle point and then chasing down and arresting the alien with .

The Conquer a District challenges requires you to plant an Astronaut Flag, usually on the highest point, or one of the highest points, in a district. To plant the flag, you simply walk up to the spot and hit and once he plants the flag the challenge will be complete. For a list of all the districts in the game please refer to Super Compuper.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Farmer City Challenges

There are two different farmer challenges to complete. There are 22 pigs to return using the pig cannons and there are 20 flowers to water.

To return a pig, you must find him in the area. They are usually on top of a building, but not necessarily. The pigs can be a lot easier to find because you don’t have to look for a challenge icon; instead, the pig will glow orange, allowing you to see him from pretty far away. Once you get to the pig, hop on him using and then the game will tell you where the nearest cannon is. When you get back to the cannon stick him in it and then use the farmer outfit to fire it and complete the challenge.

The watering flowers challenge is incredibly easy and simply requires you to walk up to a planter and interact with it. The planters for the challenge are the long green ones, not the red or blue potted ones. If you’re having trouble locating one then be sure to use the Data Scan Red Bricks to find them.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Firefighter City Challenges

There are two different Firefighter City Challenges to complete: rescue 17 cats and extinguish 17 BBQ’s. If you are having trouble locating either challenge, then be sure to use the Data Scan Red Bricks to check the area.

To rescue a cat you will have to find the designated point and then simply interact with it; once you do the cat will jump down to you and complete the challenge. Like the pigs, the cats are usually high up.

To extinguish a BBQ you will have to first find a red/black small grill with a fire coming out of the top. Once you find one simply use your water gun to put out the fire and complete the challenge.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Complete all Construction City Challenges

There are two different Construction City Challenges to complete: 17 Drill Thrills and 20 Coffee Breaks. If you are having trouble locating a challenge, then be sure to use the Data Scan Red Bricks to check the area.

The Drill Thrill Challenges are actually a lot of fun and require you to use the Drill to drill up parts of the ground. To begin the challenge, you will have to fix a fuse box, then step on a red switch. Once you do that the game will give you an aerial view of where the drill spots are. An easy way to tell if you’ve drilled a spot is to see if the spot is still moving; if it is then you have to drill that area. The Super Drill Ride Red Brick can make these a lot easier but it is still very doable without it.

The Coffee Break challenges are simply walking up to a table with a red pot on it and interacting with it. Once you interact with the table the challenge is complete.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

For the locations of all the collectibles in Free Roam please refer to the videos found here.

  • Play with all 8 disguise slots customised at the same time

As you progress through the Story Mode, you will gain access to new characters and abilities. By the end of the game you will be able to switch through 8 different slots as you play. To customize your disguise slots, head to any of the police changing booths (a color wheel icon on the map) and then change each of the slots to a custom character. The custom character option is always the last one that you can choose all the way to the right. For the civilian slot, the custom character option is found under the resident section. Once you have set all 8 slots to the custom character option the trophy will unlock.

  • Find and build the 5 hidden Police Shields

Scattered throughout the game world are 5 secret shields that you need to build. You will find them in a box that you will then have to break and rebuild the pieces. When you get close to one an icon (it looks like a police badge) will appear on your map so be sure to be on the lookout for those. The location of the 5 hidden police shields is as follows:

    1) At the very top of Fusileani Tower in Fresco

    2) Rooftop across from Jenny’s Diner in Cherry Tree Hills

    3) On top of the building in front of the pig launcher in Bright Lights Plaza

    4) On top of the Rollercoaster in Paradise Sands (head up to the observatory and from the archway chicken glide across)

    5) On top of the Library building Uptown (Climb art museum, chicken glide to natural history museum, chicken glide to top of library)

Once you have collected the fifth hidden shield the trophy will unlock.

  • Find and destroy the 5 hidden Rex Graffiti Skullptures

There are a total of 5 Hidden Rex Graffiti Skullptures scattered around the world, they look almost like a scarecrow or trophy and will appear on your map when you get close to one. Once you find one simply destroy it. The locations of the 5 hidden Rex Graffiti Skullptures are as follows:

    1) Under the Auburn Bay Bridge.

    2) In Festival Square along the water on the north west side of the area

    3) Behind the garages on Apollo Island

    4) Underneath the north end of the highway in the LEGO City Highway District

    5) At the very top of the dam in bluebell national park (Use the astronaut teleporter on the left building below the dam)

Once you have destroyed all 5 of the Skullptures the trophy will unlock.

  • Construct all 65 city Super Builds

There are a total of 65 Super Builds scattered around the world for you to build. Any of the ones within Special Assignments do NOT count towards the total. You will required to build a few of these Super Builds during Chapters that will count towards your total (Chapters not Special Assignments). Super Builds are basically just a flat LEGO piece on a surface that you then pay bricks (not studs) to build, they can be a wide variety of objects.

You should have more than enough bricks throughout the game to build all of them as long as you pick up some of the large number of bricks scattered throughout the world. To build a Super Build simply step on it and then press to build it. As you come across Super Builds while you’re playing, the game will add an icon to your mini map so you don’t have to build them right away. As you play through the game you will more than likely find a high amount of them so don’t go out of your way too much. Once you have built the final Super Build the trophy will unlock.

When you complete all 15 Special Assignments, you will unlock a x2 bricks multiplier.

*Note* - On the map if you click when highlighting a district, it will give you a breakdown of how many tokens, challenges, red bricks, and gold bricks are left in the district.

  • Build up the brick multiplier to activate the super car

As you are driving a car, if you hit breakable items it will build up a multiplier. It takes you hitting 5 objects in quick succession to raise the multiplier. The highest multiplier you can achieve is x5, meaning you will have to hit 20 breakable objects in somewhat quick succession to reach multiplier rank 5. This trophy is relatively easy to achieve, and there is a good chance you will unlock it without even trying. There are however a number of spots that you can easily get this trophy if you are having trouble with it.

My favorite spot to get this is to simply drive along the curb on Heritage Bridge. From the police station find a somewhat fast car (nitrous boost makes this a little easier) and head towards Heritage Bridge. Then all you have to do is drive along the curb hitting all the light posts. If you start hitting objects just before the start of the bridge then you should hit rank 5 at either the end of the bridge or just after you get off of it. Once you do hit rank 5 the trophy will unlock.

  • Throw troublemakers into each other 5 times during Gang Fight Challenges

Despite the trophy description, this does not have to be done during Gang Fight Challenges. I actually unlocked this trophy during Chapter 4 during the Special Assignment. After you enter the temple your kung fu will be put to the test, and one of the challenges will be to throw enemies into each other, and then it will just be to defeat a bunch of enemies. Throw an enemy into another enemy 5 times and the trophy will unlock.

  • Build all objects in Bright Lights Plaza's LEGO Store

The LEGO Store in Bright Lights Plaza is the first store on the right of the center island, if you’re coming from the south. To enter the store you will first have to get the door open. Once you get it open, smash everything in the store and rebuild the three LEGO displays. Once you have built the last one the trophy will unlock.

  • Listen to 20 different conversations whilst Audio Scanning

During Story Mode you will unlock the Audio Scanner tool pretty early on. Throughout the game there will be numerous points where you will have to use the scanner to listen to peoples' conversations. There are way more than 20 conversations to listen to throughout the game, so don’t fret too much about this. Each of the Gang Arrest Police challenges will require you to use the audio scanner and listen in to a particular conversation, the one that is scrambled. Before listening to the scrambled one be sure to hover over each of the other conversations before unscrambling the one you’re meant to listen to. Upon listening to your twentieth conversation the trophy will unlock.

  • Use 10 Stunt Ramps in a taxi with a passenger

To unlock this trophy, you must first find a taxi with a passenger in it. There are usually a decent amount around the bridges. Once you find one, make sure you hop into the driver’s seat (stay near the front of the vehicle when you hit ), and then just drive through 10 stunt ramps. I personally used the stunt ramps on Auburn Bay Bridge since there are two back to back and then you can just keep turning around and repeating the process. Upon completing the tenth stunt ramp jump the trophy will unlock.

  • Complete the Bucking Bronco game

The Bucking Bronco game is located during Special Assignment #2, in the Warden’s office. The mechanical bull will be off to the left; complete the mini-game and the trophy will unlock soon after.

  • Drive a lawnmower as Rex Fury

You can unlock this trophy by either unlocking and purchasing the Grassman vehicle (it's located under the Compact section) or by simply stealing one from someone. You will see a decent amount of them in Crescent Park as you drive through the area but its a lot easier to simply unlock it in Cherry Tree Hills and then pick Rex Fury and spawn the vehicle using the Instant Vehicle Red Brick. Res Fury must also be unlocked and purchased for 1 million studs before you can use him. You can find Rex Fury’s token in Special Assignment #15; see the collectible guide for his exact location. Once you hop on the Grassman as Rex Fury the trophy will unlock.

  • Score 3 baskets in 3 attempts when playing the basketball game

The earliest you can unlock this trophy will be on Albatross Island. You will have to return a basketball to some prisoners; after you do, play the basketball game. Simply hit when the target is in the center of the line for the basketball to go in. Do this three times in a row and the trophy will unlock. There are tons of basketball hoops all around the world, so if you don’t get it there you will definitely come across more as you play and explore.

  • Slide down the hand rail from the top of Fresco's Fusileani Tower

Fusileani Tower is located in the northern part of the Fresco District, it’s the building that looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Once you find it, head through the door at the base and run all the way to the top. Towards the top a wall will begin; from that spot, you will have to jump on the little outer ledge and ride it all the way down. Upon reaching the bottom the trophy will unlock.

  • Car surf for 30 seconds

This trophy is very easy to unlock; simply jump onto a car with a roof and then stand on it as the car drives around. After you have ridden of the roof for thirty seconds the trophy will unlock.

  • Ride each of the 4 Super Build fairground rides

There are four Super Build fairground rides to build. They are some of the higher cost Super Builds in the game, but not too bad. The breakdown of their locations is as follows:

    1) Festival Square – Deep Sea Spin
    2) South Pagoda – Frightful Free fall
    3) Apollo Island by the west entrance – The Spinning Shuttle Programme
    4) The Amusement Park in Paradise Sands – Orion’s Rockets

Note that you have to ride all four of the rides to get the trophy; simply building them will not unlock it. Upon riding the Last Ride the trophy will unlock.

  • Jump from a helicopter into a car

As you are going through the story, you will eventually unlock helicopters for use. All you have to do is enter a helicopter and then fly low next to a vehicle and hit and it will automatically make you jump into the car, unlocking the trophy.

  • Collect 4,000,000,000 LEGO studs

This trophy requires you to have 4,000,000,000 studs on you at one time; this isn’t a cumulative number trophy. This trophy will come very naturally as you play through the game and requires no grinding or extra attention than just playing the game. Once you have all the multiplier red bricks turned on your stud total will start to go up significantly, especially given all the studs you get for each Super Build. If for some reason you don’t have this by the time everything else is done, there is a stud fountain in King’s Court that will continuously shoot out blues (unlocked when you reach 100%).

  • Visit all 10 giant LEGO City stone statues

This trophy is a little tricky as there is no way of knowing which statues count for the trophy unless the trophy unlocks while you’re standing next to one. I have put together a rough list of statues that count and might count for the trophy. As you play through the game you will more than likely be close enough to most of these for them to count, with the exception of the Statue of Liberty and the Aviator Statue in the LEGO City Airport District. If you don’t have the trophy after completing everything else, then I would suggest heading to each of the locations on the list until the trophy unlocks.

    1) Artist Painting a picture in front of the downtown arena
    2) Viking Statues in the amusement park in paradise sands
    3) The Model Citizen (Heritage Bride)
    4) Baseball Player Statue across from the disguise booth in Festival Square
    5) Mailman Statue in Cherry Tree Hills
    6) Soccer Player Statue in Fresco (Confirmed)
    7) Statues in Front of Blackwell Tower in Kings Court
    8) Atlas Statue in Bright Lights Plaza
    9) Statue of Liberty (Confirmed)
    10) Aviator Statue by the airport (Confirmed)

*Note* - If the trophy unlocks for you while you’re next to one of the unconfirmed statues or one that’s not on the list, please let me know and I will update it. Thanks.
