LEGO Batman 3 is the 9th LEGO game to be released on the Vita. This game is again different from previous LEGO Vita games, and is somewhat more similar to the console versions. The levels themselves remain short, divided into 3 linked Levels within 15 distinct Chapters. The recent 10 Challenge format has been replaced with a new 5 Gold Brick system. There are no longer Multi-Challenges, and no time based Challenges. Every Level has a Gold Brick for completion, for reaching a specific Stud total, and for finding and collecting a Joker Card (which also unlocks a Character). The other 2 Bricks are for Combat Challenges, Red Bricks and Joker/Batman/Luthor destructible items.

There are two moderately sized Hubs i.e the Batcave and the Watchtower, these serve as central access points and all Character and Red Brick transactions are performed from the Hubs. There are a number of activities to complete within the Hubs, including Gold Brick Builds and Character Tokens to collect.

It should also be noted that permadeath has been removed. Unlike the last couple of games, dying no longer requires a Level restart. Even falling off a ledge, you will respawn. Overall the Platinum is pretty straightforward, and is worth at least a rental. If you enjoyed the previous Vita LEGO games, you should feel right at home here, and with a few new features and the hub inclusion, some of the previous short comings have been addressed.

Step 0 - Techno Prisoners Preparation

A missable Trophy in a LEGO game?! Not really, but I strongly recommend you familiarize yourself with the requirements for Techno Prisoners . There are a lot of Terminals in this game and while very easy to complete, the game does not track which you have maximized and most can be successfully cleared without an optimal solution. If you complete any without fully filling in the grid, you will miss this Trophy, and may have to replay the entire game, Level by Level, until the Trophy pops.

It has been confirmed that the Hub Terminals do NOT count for this trophy.

Step 1 - Complete the Game

This will be the longest step. Here you will need to complete all the Levels and begin your exploration of the two main Hubs. It's probably best to focus on the basic Gold Brick Challenges for completing the Levels. As with previous LEGO games, do not go out of your way to collect Joker Cards or Red Bricks, as many of them will be 'locked' - while they may be in plain sight, you will often need a specific character action to access the location. I would suggest going slowly through the Levels on this run. Try to kill everyone and destroy everything.

This will probably net you most of the Stud targets, and all of the Combat Challenges. It is likely that you will complete about 50% of the total Challenges during this playthrough, and hopefully have enough Studs to purchase some of the necessary Red Bricks and Characters for your Free Play run. There is a single Trophy for each Chapter in the game, so you should have at least 15 by the end of this step.

Step 2 - Free Play Preparation

Once you have completed all of the levels once, I would recommend going back and obtaining the stud multiplier Red Bricks (4x, 6x, 8x and 10x), as well as the Invincibility Brick. These are going to be mandatory for getting 100%, and you will eventually need a lot of studs to be able to buy everything and bank 100,000,000.

Stud Multiplier Red Brick Levels (credit to themindisacity for the descriptions):

  • 4x - The Batrocket Hangar - Left of starting point there are breakable blue objects. Build them into a Blue Lantern build spot.
  • 6x - Ace Chemicals - In the tub at the top of the stage after you mix the chemicals
  • 8x - Ysmault - After raising the ship to cross the lava, blow up the rock and put the skull on the skeleton in the nearby cave
  • 10x - Atrocitus Attack - On the far right of the stage. Use Superman to melt the ice surrounding the brick.

You will also need to work towards unlocking the necessary Characters to be able to access everything. Most will be unlocked automatically, but a few will need to be purchased, specifically the other Lanterns. With the Stud multiplier Red Bricks, you should have the necessary funds very quickly.

Necessary Characters:

  • Silver objects - Bomb suit Batman (unlocked in story)
  • Gold objects - Superman (unlocked in story)
  • Treadmill - Flash (unlocked in story)
  • Sphere stations - Sphere Suit Robin, Green Lantern (unlocked in story)
  • Mind control - Martian Manhunter (unlocked in story), Poison Ivy (Joker Card from The Indigo Power Battery)
  • Underwater - Killer Croc (unlocked in story) or Batman Dive Suit (unlocked in Batcave freeplay)
  • Ice - Superman (unlocked in story)
  • Fire - Arctic Suit Batman (unlocked in story) or Mr Freeze (Joker Card from Wayne Tower)
  • Grundy Dig spots - Solomon Grundy (unlocked in story)
  • Dirt piles - Alfred (unlocked in story), Larfreeze (unlocked in story but must purchase)
  • Green handles - Any big character will work (Mech Suit Lex, Solomon Grundy, Killer Croc)
  • Floor grates - Martian Manhunter (unlocked in story), Ambush Bug (Joker Card from Superman in Space), Doctor Fate (Joker Card from Brainiac Battle)
  • Lantern plates - There are 5 different coloured plates; Green (Green Lantern, unlocked in story), Orange (Larfleeze, unlocked in story but must purchase), Blue (Saint Walker, unlocked in story but must purchase), Purple (Indigo-1, unlocked in story but must purchase) and Pink (Star Sapphire, unlocked in story but must purchase)

Remember that once collected (unlocked) in Levels, Characters and Red Bricks must be purchased before they can be used. There is a terminal in both the Batcave and the Watchtower where all transactions must be completed.

Step 3 - Complete all Levels to 100%

Your goal here will be to replay all levels and unlock all of the Gold Bricks. Most of these are quite straightforward, but may take a few replays. Make sure you keep your Stud Multiplier and Invincibility Bricks on. Note that you can swap to any unlocked Character by pressing to bring up the Character Wheel. Tap the centre icon to scroll through the menu of all available Characters at any time, even mid-level.

Please refer to themindisacity's Collectables Guide if you are having troubles locating any Red Brick or Joker Card locations.

  • Complete chapter 15

Story related, cannot be missed. Complete the 3 Levels in Chapter 15, Fortress of Solitude, to unlock this Trophy.

  • Unlock all the suits in the game

Suits will automatically be earned as the Story progresses. By the end of your Story play, you should have all but the dive suit. To find it: Return to the Batcave hub and from your starting position, go to the left and drop down to the area with the bat boat. Repair it to earn this final suit and the Trophy.

  • Complete all the Gold Brick Builds in the game

Gold Brick Builds are located exclusively in the 2 Hubs and they are all required for progression through the Story, with the exception of one in the Batcave.

Once you have completed the Story, go back to the Batcave, and look for an area on the upper level with green goo on the floor (the only green puddle in the batcave). To the left is a build station, which builds a turret that destroys the debris blocking a tunnel just above the goo. This leads you to a path, which accesses the store in the Batcave.

  • Collect all the microchips

This will be earned during exploration of the Watchtower Hub. The microchips are required to access the Lantern homeworlds, and therefore will be required a part of the Story progression. Use the green Studs to guide your path, as this part can be a bit confusing.

There are 6 chips in total that will need to be collected.

  • Find all the Joker cards

Joker Cards are like the Mini-kits from the previous games. There is a single Card in every Level of the game, and you will need to find them all to complete the corresponding Gold Brick Challenge. Most of these will be earned during Free Play, as many require specific Characters that are not available during your Story playthrough. Please refer to themindisacity's Collectables Guide for specific locations.

  • Complete 100 Gold Brick challenges

Gold Brick Challenges are earned for completing specific tasks during Level play. There is always a Gold Brick for completing the Level, as well as one for meeting a specific Stud total and finding the Joker Card. The other Gold Bricks are for Combat Challenges, Destructible Objects and Red Bricks and there are a total of 5 Gold Brick Challenges in every story Level.

This will likely be earned towards the end of your Story playthrough.

  • Collect 100,000,000 studs

A seemingly monumental number, as you will probably be around 2-3 million at the end of your first Story play. However, once you pick up the Stud Multiplier Red Bricks, your Stud counts will rapidly increase. The multipliers stack, so with all the Bricks active, every Stud is multiplied by 4x6x8x10, for a total of 1920x. Some of the flight levels can net upwards of 100,000,000 per run, and you will likely finish your Free Play with over 1 billion studs.

I am not sure if this Trophy is cumulative or requires the amount to be in the bank at one time, but again you will be well past the required amount before finishing the game.

  • Achieve 100% completion

Should be the final Trophy in the game, once you have earned all the Gold Brick Challenges, unlocked all the Suits and Characters, and fully explored the Hubs.

  • Destroy all Joker LEGO objects

    See Batvandel.

  • Destroy all Luthor LEGO objects

    See Batvandel.

  • Destroy all Batman LEGO objects

As you progress through the Levels, one of the Gold Brick Challenges is often for destroying specific objects placed by either Joker, Lex or Batman. The game will tell you how many objects are required to clear the Challenge. You may get a few of these during Story play, but a lot will require specific Free Play Characters to access.

Please refer to the images below for examples of each Object type.

    Batman Objects:

    Joker Objects:

    Lex Luthor Objects:

  • Complete all Lantern Constructs

Lantern Constructs are the coloured floor plates that you can interact to build a coloured LEGO object. Most of these are for Green Lantern, but a few of the other Lanterns are also required. This will not be earned until after you have finished the Story, as a few Constructs are located in the Hubs or found only during Free Play.

None are missable as you work towards completing all Gold Brick Challenges and Hub Exploration.

There are 5 different coloured plates:

    • Green (Green Lantern, unlocked during the story)
    • Orange (Larfleeze, unlocked during the story but must purchase)
    • Blue (Saint Walker, unlocked during the story but must purchase)
    • Purple (Indigo-1, unlocked during the story but must purchase)
    • Pink (Star Sapphire, unlocked during the story but must purchase)
  • Complete all Free Play in the Batcave

In order to earn this Trophy, you will need to fully explore the Batcave. There are a number of Character Tokens to unlock, as well as Gold Brick Builds, and the Dive suit. There is nothing particularly tricky here, but you will need a number of Free Play characters to interact with all of the objects.

Focus on repairing all of the bat vehicles, douse all the flames (Superman or Mr Freeze), look for any shaking LEGO that can be rebuilt.

  • Complete all Free Play in the Watchtower

In order to earn this Trophy, you will need to fully explore the Watchtower. There are a number of Character Tokens to unlock, as well as Gold Brick Builds, though there is nothing particularly tricky here but you will need a number of Free Play characters to interact with all of the objects.

  • View the credits without skipping them

While typically one of the last Trophies in a game, this actually could be your first Trophy. From the main menu of the game, simply tap the Credits icon. You can now walk away and let the credits roll through to completion, then when you return you will have a new for your collection.

  • Complete all Gold Brick challenges

    See Gold 100.

This will be one of the final Trophies, requiring completion of Card work, Red all over, Lex do this, No Joke, Batvandel, Caped Crusader and Galactic Attack.

  • Unlock and purchase all hints

Hints are purchased at the terminal in either the Batcave or Watchtower Hubs. They cost 20,000 studs each so you should have enough stash to purchase them all mid-way through your Story playthrough.

  • Unlock and purchase all red bricks

Red Bricks are the game's cheats. As with previous games, most of them are rather useless, and you may never use them. The Stud Multipliers are by far the most critical, and you will need them to earn enough currency to unlock everything. There is a single Brick in each of the 15 Chapters, and you will need to collect them all to complete the corresponding Gold Brick Challenge. Note that once unlocked, you will need to purchase them at the terminal in either the Batcave or Watchtower Hub, before they can be used in a Level.

Most of these will be earned during Free Play, because many require specific Characters that are not available during your Story play. Please refer to themindisacity's Collectables Guide for specific locations.

  • Unlock and purchase all characters

This game has a lot of Characters. Many will be awarded for completing the Story, with the rest earned in Hubs and by collecting the Joker Cards. Please refer to themindisacity's Collectables Guide to assist with Card locations.

  • Perform 20 counter attacks

Counter attacks are performed by pressing as an enemy confronts you. The A.I in this game is pretty non-aggressive, so you can stand still and wait for their attack. If you time it successfully then the enemy will be thrown to the ground and with most Characters, is then vulnerable to a one hit ground attack. Accordingly, this is best combined with And Stay Down. You will probably be using this tactic routinely, so the Trophy should come early in the game. Many of the Levels will require a specific number of successful counter attacks (usually 3), to earn a Combat Challenge Gold Brick.

  • Complete all the Gold Brick Combat challenges

Some Levels have specific Combat Challenges for Gold Bricks. Mostly these are for performing a specific number of ground finishers or counter attacks (see Counter Crazy and And stay down). It is entirely possible to clear this during your Story playthrough, otherwise you will be completing it during Free Play en-route to the .

  • Defeat 10 enemies with Superman's heat vision while flying

This is a very easy Trophy, Superman is one of the main Story Characters and unlocks early. To earn this Trophy, simply hover as Superman (press to fly), then fire your heat vision with . This is an extremely rapid way to clear combat, because the heat vision is an instant kill on basic enemies. I strongly recommend using this tactic during Free Play, as it will drastically reduce Level clear times, as all combat can be cheesed. Superman is also overpowered against bosses, as you can avoid their attacks in the air, and drop their health much more rapidly than by pounding away with ground Characters.

  • Perform 30 ground finishers

Ground finishers are performed by attacking an enemy that has been knocked to the ground. The most efficient way to do this is to perform a counter (see Counter Crazy), then attack with . Note that some Characters will instantly kill an enemy with a counter, and some seem to prefer to punch grounded enemies. Batman and Flash both have one hit ground finishers, so they are ideal choices. I found it most consistent to trigger the finisher if you attack from a slight distance as opposed to being right on top of the downed foe.

You will probably be using this tactic routinely, so the Trophy should come early in the game. Many of the Levels will require a specific number of successful ground finishers (usually 3), to earn a Combat Challenge Gold Brick.

  • Complete The Containment Facility with the Batman 1966 Mode Red Brick active

Once you have unlocked and purchased the 1966 Mode Red Brick (located in the Level LEGO London), activate it (Press while in a Hub, then scroll down to the Red Brick menu. Tap Bricks to toggle them on/off), then replay the Level through completion and the Trophy will pop at the end of it. You can do this playing as any Character.

  • Complete all the Gold Brick Space Combat Challenges in the game

During the flight Levels, Combat Challenges typically relate to specific kill totals. Certainly these are a bit harder than the ground Combat, but should still be very easily cleared either during Story or Free Play. I believe all Levels had more enemies than the target count.

  • Get maximum studs on all the Techno Access puzzles in all the levels

To maximize a Techno Terminal, you must fill in every square with a colour. Most will have more than one maximum solution, and it does NOT matter how you maximize it. Many will also have a correct, but not maximal, solution. While this unlocks the Terminal, it is NOT correct for Trophy purposes.

Please refer to the image below for a correct but not maximal solution. Note that there are 2 uncoloured, blue octagons remaining after joining the corresponding Red, Yellow and Purple Conductors.

This is the maximum stud alternative, with every octagon filled.

In order to unlock the Trophy, you will need to solve every Techno Terminal with a maximal solution.

Note that Terminals located in Hubs do NOT count, just those in the Levels.

Unfortunately, there is no way to track which Terminals you have optimized. As there are numerous Techno Terminals in the game, it would be best to make sure you maximize them as you go. This should pop early during your Free Play if you maximize them all in order, as one of the Terminals cannot be accessed during Story Play.

Below is a list of all Techno Terminal containing Levels in the game, courtesy of CloudSOLDAT

    • Bat Observatory
    • Batcave
    • Batrocket Hangar
    • Armoury (Terminal only available in Free Play)
    • Weapons Lab
    • Docking Bay
    • Brainiac's Ship
    • Ace Chemicals
    • Underground Caverns
    • Mines of Qward
  • Complete The Breach of Okaara in 3 loops or less

This is a flight Level, where you go around in a loop repeatedly while shooting to destroy 4 crystals powering a central core. To earn the Trophy, you will need to destroy all 4 power crystals before completing 3 full loops. You should easily be able to destroy all the crystals before completing 2 loops. This can be done in either Story or Free Play. If you have the Invincibility Red Brick, then you can simply fly into the crystals to destroy them instantaneously.

  • Use the arcade machine

This is a somewhat tricky Trophy. The arcade machine is located on the Bat Observatory, near the beginning of the game and should be visible to the left of the screen during the intro clip.

The challenge is, if you approach it directly, Batman will shoot and destroy it. You must move to the console directly in front of you so that you can move up towards Batman, thus making him fly away. You can now approach the arcade machine and interact with it. After a few seconds navigating this simple mini-game, the Trophy will pop.

You can earn this during the initial Story playthrough, or subsequently during Free Play.

  • Discover Aquaman's tea party

This is located in the second Level, Sewers Interchange. Early in the Level you will climb a tower that has green goo on top. To the immediate right of this tower there is a fish tank, with Aquaman in it.

In order to reveal the brief cutscene, you will need a flying Character to approach the tank. Accordingly, this will need to be done during Free Play.

  • Discover the Killer Croc goon's prank

The prank is located in the very first Level, Gotham Sewers, just after you hear Robin saying he is scared. Use Batman's detective vision to scan a green wall, and reveal a goon with a microphone behind it.

You can earn this during the initial Story playthrough, or subsequently during Free Play.
