Introduction:

Legend of Kay Anniversary is a HD re-release of a 2005 PlayStation 2 game. It is single player only and there is no online capability. There are four difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Nightmare. The game-play is similar to Jak (and Daxter), Sly Cooper, and Ratchet (and Clank).

There is a fully detailed collectible walkthrough here.

Walkthrough:

This game can be completed in a single playthrough; Nightmare difficulty is available right from the start. In fact, there is no benefit in waiting as there is no NewGame+ mode with items that might pass over from a previous playthrough.

This game has no "replay chapter" concept and as a result there are several trophies that are missable. The trophies are broken down as follows:

Complete one of the Extra races

This final trophy must be completed by playing an Extras race from the game's Main Menu.

Hellcat glitch:
All you need to do is complete a "no chili run" on one of the Extra races immediately after you defeat the boss (you will return to the Main Menu after the credits).

Cleanup
Sadly there is nothing to do but begin a second playthrough to collect whatever trophies you missed.

Once all individual trophies are out of the way the Platinum  trophy will be yours.

26 trophies ( 14  6  )

  • Collect all the other trophies to unlock

This unlocks after collecting all of the other trophies.

  • Complete the first sword training

Story related and cannot be missed.

This is earned after completing the quest Visit the Master and pass the first fighting lesson in Chapter 1. This is the third story-related quest after beginning the game. It is a simple tutorial quest.

  • Win the first fight against the boar

Story related but is very easily missable. You will be required to face off against a large boar boss in Chapter 1. Win or lose, the story proceeds whether you achieved the trophy or not. You fail by losing all of your health. You can either save your game state to the Cloud/USB before this fight or very quickly exiting the game to prevent a failure from auto-saving.

The good news is that this confrontation is very early in the game and you can get to it very quickly in a new game later if necessary.

This fight will occur in Chapter 1 (Cat Village) while you are looking for Ai Tan's pumpkins after giving the gorilla gate guard a banana to access the area. I recommend backing up your save before entering the area.

This boss is named Boarax and he can be difficult without the right strategy. The easiest strategy seems to be running as far away from Boarax as possible, near the trees along the edge of the area, and then wait for him to charge at you. Right before he gets to you run to the right or left; he cannot turn that fast and will run into the wall causing a temporary stun. This is your chance to attack by running up to his face and pressing  to Grab his tusks. You only have to press  once as about a 5 second scripted attack sequence will occur that is not interruptible.

You only need to take out around half of the Boarax' life before he runs away in defeat. On Nightmare difficulty it took me 6 Grab  sequences to win the fight. The trophy will pop as soon as the cut-scene begins.

  • Complete the second fight training lesson

Story related and cannot be missed.

This is earned at the end of Chapter 1. It is a simple tutorial quest. The trophy will pop once the cut-scenes begin for the next chapter.

  • Finish the first boar race

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Chapter 1 (Cat Village) you will be required to ride the boar in the farm area and finish your first boar race in order to proceed with the story. You must finish within the time limit (which is very forgiving for this race) and hit all the checkpoints that appear during the race. You cannot hit anything or the race is over. You are able to retry as many times as you need. The trophy will pop once you finish the race.

  • Story related and cannot be missed (certain areas require a 5x combo to proceed). See Fight like Kilkenny cats

  • See Fight like Kilkenny cats

  • Get a 15x combo

    See Fight like Kilkenny cats

  • Get a 20x combo

Very early in the game you will be taught how to perform Combos. Each successful Combo hit increases the Combo multiplier on your screen, providing you do it in succession and with enough speed. The trophy will pop as soon as you see 20x on the screen.

I wouldn't sweat this trophy as you will probably get 5x and 10x without evening trying. However, if you like to get trophies out of the way as soon as possible then read the spoiler for the first (and very easy) location to get these trophies.

In Chapter 1 (Cat Village) the Master will walk you through a second combat training session. Part of this lesson will teach you about Zhongs. There will be 4 in a row going from the ground to an item that the Master wants you to retrieve. These Zhongs re-spawn and so you can use them over and over again.

    • Press  to attack the first Zhong on the ground (probably will need to jump with  as well). You will be at Combo x1.
    • Press  to zoom to the 2nd Zhong. Once in front of the 2nd Zhong, press  to attack. You will be at Combo x2.
    • Do the same for the 3rd and 4th Zhong. You will be at Combo x4.
    • By this point the first Zhong will have re-spawned. Press  to zoom back to the first Zhong on the ground. Press . You will be at Combo x5.
    • Repeat until you hit Combo x20.
    • Best part: If you break the Combo streak you can start over as many times as you want (just don't continue the story quest).

There is also an extremely easy location in Chapter 6 (Wild Boar Boarax). There are at least 30 Wooden Zhongs all bunched together at the beginning that you can hit in succession.

  • Upgrade your extra lives to 9

"Extra lives" in this game is the same thing as the old arcade game style for how many lives you have left before you have to "start over". Thankfully this game is not as brutal in that you have to restart at your last save, not actually start the entire game over.

This trophy is missable in that there are limited collectibles for this, and you must have actively 9 extra lives showing on your screen for this trophy to pop. You start the game with 3 extra lives. If you keep dying before reaching 9, then you will eventually run out of extra lives that you can collect. It is not as daunting as it sounds; there are plenty of collectibles of this type. They look like this:

I would recommend getting this trophy out of the way as soon as you can; obviously the easier portions are in the beginning of the game. If you do happen to die, I suggest immediately going back to the Main Menu and restarting from your last game save so that you avoid losing any Extra Lives.

    All locations:

    1. Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Before completing your second combat training find Nong Bao to begin a side quest. After finding his hens, talk to him one more time.
    2.  Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Given as a reward during your second combat training lesson with the Master
    3. Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - Shortly after the chapter starts you will see a cut-scene of a hare entering a tree to a new location. Enter the tree and in the next area are 2 floating green bugs. Off to the left is a high floating Wooden Zhong and the Extra Life. Kill a bug then press  to Combo move to the Wooden Zhong. Flip on to the platform with the treasure chest. If you fail and both bugs are gone, restart your game save to try again.
    4. Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - In the exact same area as the previous Extra Life is a bunch of bamboo (opposite side). Behind this bamboo is a cat statue (used for the Green Armour quest). Stand in front of the cat statue, facing away from it, but right next to it. Perform a Somersault jump to grab a swing bar above your head that you cannot see. Open the treasure chest you find.
    5. Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - In Rockfall Chasm (NW area) there are two locations of falling/rolling rocks. One of these has a treasure chest at the end.
    6. Chapter 5 (Dragon Cave) – It is located inside of the Demon Portal in this chapter. It is in one of the jars.
    7. Chapter 6 (Wild Boar Boarax) – After defeating the boss, you will arrive at a platform jumping area called Cloud Forest. Towards the end of your jumping you will see an Extra Life hovering in the air. While easy to see it is frankly tricky to get; you are flipping among twirl poles while avoiding flying bugs. It is clearly meant to be retrieved using a Combo  attack to move between flying bugs but your timing has to be perfect or you will fall. Personally I don’t think this one is worth the effort since there are so many elsewhere.
    8. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – From the chapter start, cross the bridge in front of you and then follow the yellow crystals off to the right. These crystals stop in front of a bridge. Fall off the right side of this island (facing the bridge) to land on some platforms. Use Combo  to traverse the Wooden Zhongs. At the end is a treasure chest on the ground that requires a Combo x7 multiplier to open. If you hit every Zhong you should be at Combo x10.
    9. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – Just past the first save point are 3 Wooden Zhongs. Use them to land on a pillar that you can use to access the island to the SE. On this island is a cat statue. In the direction this statue is facing, jump across the mushrooms to find 2 treasure chests.
    10. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – From the previous Extra Life, use the Wooden Zhong on the north side of the cat statue island. Use a Combo through 4 of them to land safely on a pillar with a treasure chest that requires Combo x3 to open.
    11. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – After fighting the 4 rats and 2 turtles (plus bugs) on the north island, a Combo x3 chest will appear.
    12. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – After you retrieve the Basic Claws and run through the bomb-falling docks you will come across another save point on the docks. Right next to this is a crumbly dock that leads to stone pillars. Towards the top of these pillars are 2 Stone Zhongs. Use them to reach the treasure chest.
    13. Chapter 8 (Swamp of Death) - It is located inside of the Demon Portal in this chapter in one of the treasure chests at the end.
    14. Chapter 8 (Frog City) – Follow the red crystal trail inside House of the Wu Clan (part of story line) to the top of the second room to find a red treasure chest (past the green treasure chest).
    15. Chapter 8 (Frog City) – As part of the story line you will be going through houses collecting fish eggs. At one point you will have to cross a rope bridge. Look to your left for the treasure chest sitting out on a platform.
    16. Chapter 8 (Turtle Fort) – There is a treasure chest tucked away in the corner in the Sports Arena (story related battle occurs here).
    17. Chapter 8 (Turtle Fort) – Virtually unmissable. The story line will require you to fight a few groups of turtles in this area. After one of the fights, 2 treasure chests will spawn and one is an Extra Life.
    18. Chapter 8 (Turtle Fort) – Located in a treasure chest in the locked storage room underneath the Kitchen area; it is right next to the Green Armour.
    19. Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – Heading to the entrance of the temple you will come across a Combo x1 treasure chest. To your left and right are enemies you can use to get your Combo multiplier to x1.
    20. Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – There is a treasure chest in the Mud Vapor Bath. This is the far SE room that looks filled with water on your mini-map.
    21. Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – In the northern waterway there is a room on the west side that has blocks that you must push around. Once you have the blocks lined up to jump from the switch to the far west room you will find a key. In this same room is an Extra Life. Jump from one of the pillars by the entryway to jump up above the door to find the treasure chest.
    22. Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – It is inside of the Demon Portal in this area in one of the pots.
    23. Chapter 11 (Forsaken City I) – Near the merchant is the dry dock which is mostly empty at the beginning of the chapter. Jump down into the dry dock to find a treasure chest with an Extra Life.
    24. Chapter 12 (King’s Palace) – There is only one save point in this level, and the extra life is in a red treasure chest in one of the corners of this room.
    25. Chapter 12 (King’s Palace) – It is located within a treasure chest in the southern-most room of the rooms on the west side of the map. You will be required to enter this room for the story line in order to acquire one of the keys.
    26. Chapter 14 (Ancient Dungeon) – In the room with a tower of spikes that you must climb there initially will be a line of red crystals leading from the tower (about halfway up) to another hallway. If you stand on the tower and face that hallway, down to your lower left in front of you is an Extra Life sitting on a small ledge. You can jump down and grab it from this position.
    27. Chapter 20 (Harbor) – Walk along the docks to complete a fight with 3 rats. After that is done jump in the water and look underneath the dock you used to reach the area. There is an Extra Life just sitting there under the dock.
    28. Chapter 21 (Volcano) – In the beginning of the chapter you will enter an area called Bat Hollow. In this area is a Combo x3 treasure chest. Use the bats to build up your Combo multiplier.
    29. Chapter 21 (Volcano) – As part of the story you will be required to activate 3 cat statues. In the second cat statue area you will fight 4 bears (plus others). Hidden behind a tree is a treasure chest.
    30. Chapter 21 (Volcano) – You will eventually arrive at a staircase that has a large boulder periodically rolling down it. On the right side of this staircase, behind a rock, is a treasure chest.
    31. Chapter 21 (Volcano) – Inside of the Demon Portal there is a treasure chest at the end with an Extra Life.
    32. Chapter 22 (Volcano Interior) – The first combat area has an Extra Life sitting there in plain sight on a little pillar in the lava.
  • Finish the game on „Hard“ difficulty

    See Hellcat

  • Upgrade your health points to the maximum

The above icon is what a Health Point Upgrade looks like. Your health points refer to how much health you have before you lose an Extra Life. There are 12 upgrades you must collect for this trophy. You start the game with 3 health points, so your max health points will be 15. This trophy is missable because there is no ability to head back to a previous chapter to get any collectibles that you missed plus there is no way to grind money in the final chapter.

    All locations:

Note: I will refer to Health Point Upgrade as HPU.

    1.  Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Given as a reward during your first combat training lesson with the Master.
    2. Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Enter Tang Mu's house and talk to her to discover that her children are missing. Find them to complete her quest and receive your HPU.
    3. Chapter 2 (Mystic Forest) - At the very beginning is a merchant. Buy the HPU for 325 coins.
    4. Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - Located right next to the dragon statue in the Hidden Glade where you fight 4 bears.
    5. Chapter 6 (Wild Boar Boarax) – Destroy the second set of all Wooden Zhongs at the beginning so that you have an arrow (of remaining Wooden Zhongs) pointing towards the merchant. Once successful a Wooden Zhong will spawn by the merchant. Use your Combo  move to zip up there. Purchase the HPU for 575 coins.
    6. Chapter 6 (Wild Boar Boarax) – As part of the story you must smash Wooden Zhongs to reach an upper ledge where a switch awaits to activate a zip line on the other side of the area. On this ledge is a cave that has a boar race inside. Complete the boar race and collect your prize.
    7. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – Activate 4 cat statues and proceed in the story until you come to the save point that has a Combo x3 treasure chest opposite of it on the docks. Facing the treasure chest, head left and jump across the pillars to Snail Island. Follow the path to the top and the HPU is within one of the 3 treasure chests at the top.
      1. Just past the first save point are 3 Wooden Zhongs. Use them to safely land on a pillar. Jump across 2 more pillars to access the island to the SE that has the statue.
      2. After fighting the 4 rats and 2 turtles (plus bugs) on the north island, cross the wooden beams to the north to find another statue.
      3. Inside of the turtle building where you find the Basic Claws (after fighting your first Crocodile).
      4. Once the merchant appears the story has you running past him into the green water area to the left. Straight ahead is bamboo that you must cut through to continue the story but look instead to your left to find a second water bamboo location. The statue is back there.
    8. Chapter 8 (Swamp of Death) – After meeting with the Mayor, head across the balance beams to the turtle head statue. Facing the statue, head left and start jumping across the stumps and balance beams to the next island. Go quickly to avoid the hornets. At the next island you will see Zhongs swirling around a log in the distance; this is the challenge you have to complete. Attack the 2 scratched Zhongs with your claws and then use  to use your sword on the others; avoid the electric Zhong. You are timed and must do this quickly. Upon success a treasure chest will spawn back at the last island you were on. If you are having trouble with the hornets, use a Bottle of Hornets to keep the other ones away for 20 seconds.
    9. Chapter 8 (Frog City) – This one is tricky. From your starting location begin jumping across the barrels in the water. Jump on to the first dock to your right. Jump across the 3 spinning logs in front of you and then look to your left; you should see a small raft in the water that is directly on top of poisonous gas with a Stone Zhong above it. It is very difficult to start this Combo without being poisoned, which means your controller actions are backward, but it is possible. Start whacking the Stone Zhong and start moving along via . There are 2 Energy Zhongs in this chain so watch out for them; you must press your controller in the right direction to move to the Stone Zhongs only. Once you reach the end your Combo multiplier must be at x7 in order to open the treasure chest.
    10. Chapter 14 (Ancient Dungeons) – This one is very tricky. As part of the story line you will come across a Ring of Champions area that has a save point in the middle. In this room is a false floor that you can break open with your hammer. Drop down the hole (not any of the others) and proceed into an area called Heaven’s Stairs. The task is making a whole bunch of tricky jumps to the very top without falling.
    11. Chapter 17 (Forsaken City II) – This one is very frustrating. It’s a sequenced Zhong challenge with 3 trees, a wall, and a cat statue in your way. After going across the drawbridge and through the house you will come to a yard that has a switch in it. Step on this switch to start the challenge. Slightly to your right will be a Sword Zhong. Attack it then  zoom to the Hammer Zhong in the small livestock pen to your left. Move toward the left stairs to  zoom to the 2nd Hammer Zong, followed by  zoom to the 3rd Hammer Zhong off to your right. If done fast enough you should see the Claw Zhong on the right side of the stair steps and you can  zoom to it. This is the key part. If you land on the stairs,  zoom to the treasure chest to open it. All of this must be done very quickly and with zero mistakes. It took me over 3 dozen tries.
    12. Chapter 19 (Beach of Waa-Lo) – After defeating all the seagulls and 3 crabs in the initial beach area, a Wooden Zhong will spawn above some rocks. Jumping on top of these rocks will show you a bunch more Zhongs. This challenge requires you to defeat all 17 Wooden Zhongs without falling to the ground. It will probably take you a few tries just to find them all but once you do it should not be too difficult to complete. A treasure chest will spawn upon success.
  • Upgrade your chi points to the maximum

The above icon is what a Magic (Chi) Point Upgrade looks like. Your chi points refer to how much magic you have for performing special moves. There are 11 upgrades you must collect for this trophy. You start the game with 4 chi points so your max chi points will be 15. This trophy is missable because there is no ability to head back to a previous chapter to get any collectibles that you missed plus there is no way to grind money in the final chapter.

    All locations:
Note: I will refer to Magic Point Upgrade as MPU.

    1. Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - There is a second optional boar race during this chapter (use reflection jumps to reach the area) where you jump through floating hoops. Finish the race and open the treasure chest for the MPU.
    2. Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Given as a reward during your second combat training lesson with the Master.
    3. Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - At the Hare village, look at the water area to see a Wooden Zhong. Attacking this starts a Zhong challenge. Destroy all Wooden Zhongs, without falling into the water, and you will receive a MPU. Note: Use a double jump to avoid the final Energy Zhongs that try to squish you.
    4. Chapter 5 (Dragon Cave) – After dodging the first set of fireballs you will enter a room named Dragon’s Gut. In this room is a large urn. Jump into that urn to fall into a sewer and look for the treasure chest in one of the corners.
    5. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – The merchant appears after retrieving the Basic Claws. Buy the MPU for 690 coins.
    6. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – Located in a treasure chest at the end of the Demon Portal realm.
    7. Chapter 8 (Turtle Fort) – There is a treasure chest located in the Kitchen.
    8. Chapter 12 (King’s Palace) – The merchant appears after retrieving the 2 keys in your first large fight. Buy the MPU for 1035 coins.
    9. Chapter 19 (Beach of Waa-Lo) – In the second beach area, there is a second Zhong challenge. First, clear out the 3 crabs and the seagull to make the first Zhong appear. Then start the challenge and avoid the Energy Zhongs. You need a Combo x7 multiplier to be able to open the treasure chest.
    10. Chapter 20 (Harbor) - Buy the MPU for 1265 coins.
    11. Chapter 21 (Volcano) - Buy the MPU for 1380 coins.
  • Collect 3 different armour types

The 3 armor types are GreenRed, and Black. This trophy is missable because you could make it to the final chapter and not have enough money left. You would have to intentionally try to miss this trophy.

    All locations:

    Green Armor

    • Chapter 4 (Meridional Forest) - In plain sight on a high pedestal at the beginning. You must activate 6 cat statues to raise other pedestals so that you can reach the armor.
      1. Behind bamboo in same area as the armor.
      2. Behind more bamboo in the bug area on the way to the mayor.
      3. Complete the fish river area so that wooden platforms rise up. Successfully cross all of these (the small ones will disappear after you land on them) to find a platform with a cage and a zip line. Take the zip line to the statue.
      4. After finding the last 2 dragon eye rubies, exit the cave to the sunlight area. In this next area is a twirl pole over spiky plants and more bamboo. Behind this bamboo is a wall that you need a bomb to destroy.
      5. In Rockfall Chasm it is behind a wall that you can bomb.
      6. In the bridge area with the last dragon statue. There are balance poles in the water; these lead to a small alcove with the statue.
    • Chapter 6 (Wild Boar Boarax) - 575 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) - After fighting the 4 rats and 2 turtles (plus bugs) on the north island, cross the wooden beams to the north to find a treasure chest next to a cat statue.
    • Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) - 690 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 8 (Frog City) – After reaching the upper level of the city you will see floating Zhongs and a red treasure chest with Combo x7 lock on it.
    • Chapter 8 (Marshland) – While jumping over the swirling lily pads on the way to the Turtle Fort, there is a red treasure chest that has red crystals leading to it. It is in plain sight.
    • Chapter 8 (Turtle Fort) – Located in the locked storage room underneath the Kitchen (story line quest item opens the door).
    • Chapter 14 (Ancient Dungeons) – As part of the story line you will come across a Ring of Champions area that has a save point in the middle. In this room is a false floor that you can break open with your hammer. Drop down the hole and proceed into an area called Heaven’s Stairs. After only a few jumps you will find this armor.
    • Chapter 14 (Ancient Dungeons) – I don’t think this one is worth it. There is a circular area near a save point where you must jump across falling platforms and spinning blades to reach an upper area. If you keep going up you can reach some armor on the highest pillar. It requires 2 blind jumps where you can easily fall into the abyss by bad camera angles.

    Red Armor

    • Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – Activate 4 cat statues and proceed in the story until you come to the save point that has a Combo x3 treasure chest opposite of it on the docks. Facing the treasure chest, head left and jump across the pillars to Snail Island. Follow the path to the top and then fall down the 3 sets of ropes to the lily pad below (you won’t see it until you land). Landing on the lily pad causes it to move. At the end of its path you will see a Wooden Zhong. Use Combo  to go through 3 of them and then lands you right next to a Combo x3 treasure chest.
      3. Inside of the turtle building where you find the Basic Claws.
      4. Once the merchant appears the story has you running past him into the green water area to the left. Straight ahead is bamboo that you must cut through to continue the story but look instead to your left to find a second water bamboo location. The statue is back there.
    • Chapter 8 (Swamp of Death) - 920 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 8 (Swamp of Death) – Refer to Dancing with the blade when retrieving Shadowsword; this Red Armour is right next to it.
    • Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – If you completed the Ferryman’s quest (beat his boating time in Swamp of Death) you will be able to access a secret room in the temple in the Northern section (the locked door is in the middle of the rushing waterways).
    • Chapter 11 (Forsaken City) – After your first fight proceed up some steps and see the panda run inside some doors. To the right of those doors is a fenced area. Jump inside to get some armor.
    • Chapter 11 (Forsaken City) - 1035 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 11 (Forsaken City) – While going for the second cat statue you will come across 4 gorillas throwing barrels at you from a roof. Use the nearby save point and then take them out. Upon defeat a treasure chest will spawn.
    • Chapter 12 (King’s Palace) – Walk past the 2 pandas and turn right after crossing the bridge. There is a Claw Zhong near the water. This one takes some precision. You must achieve a Combo x7 to open the treasure chest, and you must use the correct weapon in order. The sequence is claws x 3, sword, hammer, claws, sword, and then treasure chest.
    • Chapter 12 (King’s Palace) - 1150 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 19 (Beach of Waa-Lo) - 1380 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 19 (Beach of Waa-Lo) – On the Clandestine Beach is a Zhong challenge. You must switch between weapons to destroy the Zhongs correctly; the picture of the weapon is on the Zhong. This one is much tougher because most of them require pressing  twice between each Zhong. Done correctly you will have a Combo x7 (or higher) multiplier required to open the treasure chest.
    • Chapter 21 (Volcano) – As you near the end of the level there will be a treasure chest right after the final save point; it is actually in your way on the narrow paths.

    Black Armor

    • Chapter 20 (Harbor) - 1495 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 21 (Volcano) - 1610 coins at merchant
    • Chapter 21 (Volcano) – After you have activated the 3 cat statues to continue through the chapter, you will arrive at a staircase that has a large rock periodically rolling down it. Off to the left is a Combo x5 treasure chest. Head backwards to the second location where a piece of ground fell into the lava. This particular one stayed floating below, out of camera sight. If you fall down to it a Zhong challenge will begin. As usual, hit the Zhongs using the required weapon type. The final Zhong is tricky because if it is too far away you fall in the lava, but if it is too close you still fall in the lava because you cannot reach the treasure chest. The trick is to continually keep bashing at the final Zhong with the wrong weapon until you are close enough to reach the Combo x5 treasure chest and successfully open it.
    • Chapter 21 (Volcano) – In the same location as the last one, except it is inside of the Demon Portal that is here. It is in one of the treasure chests at the end.
    • Chapter 22 (Volcano Interior) – After talking with the female cat at the beginning, look to your right to see it in plain sight.
    • Chapter 23 (Shun’s Revenge) - 1725 coins at merchant
  • Collect all claws in the game

There are three claws you must collect. This trophy is missable because you could make it to the final chapter and not have enough money left. You would almost have to intentionally try to miss this trophy.

    • Basic Claws
    • Razor Claws
    • Jade Claws

    All locations:

    1.  Basic Claws : Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – The top left (on the map) story quest contains a fight that includes your first Crocodile enemy. After the fight, enter the large turtle building to find the claws inside.
    2. Razor Claws : Chapter 11 (Forsaken City) – Buy from the merchant for 920 coins.
    3. Jade Claws : Chapter 12 (King's Palace) – The story line will eventually take you in to the southern-most room of the rooms on the west side of the map. This room is loaded with plant enemies. After the fight is over, unlock the door to find the cat statue and a treasure chest with your final claw upgrade.
  • Collect all hammers in the game

There are three hammers you must collect. This trophy is missable because you could make it to the final chapter and not have enough money left. You would almost have to intentionally try to miss this trophy.

    • Basic Hammer
    • Ancient Hammer
    • Bullhammer

    All locations:

    1.  Basic Hammer : Chapter 11 (Forsaken City) – You will be given this hammer shortly after activating the first ancient cat statue.
    2.  Ancient Hammer : Chapter 14 (Ancient Dungeons) – The entire chapter is centered around unlocking 4 doors while finding jade statues for 3 keys. These 3 keys are necessary to retrieve this hammer, which is required to complete the chapter. The hammer itself is located in a small room north of the entrance area.
    3. Bullhammer : Chapter 20 (Harbor) – Buy from the merchant for 2300 coins.
  • Win an extra race without collecting a chilli

The story mode of the game contains several races. None of these can be used to pop this trophy. This trophy requires you to go to the Main Menu of the game and choose one of the Extra Races. These races are unlocked by playing through the game. Upon game completion there will be 4 races available here. The trophy will pop immediately at the end of the race when you have completed without grabbing any chillis.

    Minor glitch warning
When I personally went for this trophy, which was immediately after beating the game in Nightmare difficulty, the trophy would not pop. I completed the race 3 times; I even went back to the menu and made sure I had success the first time. No go. After closing down the entire application and restarting the game I was able to get the trophy to pop (I had to complete it yet a 4th time).

The following is a video of how to complete the 4th Extra Race without collecting any chillis. The video is by SuperkenGaming.

  • Collect all swords in the game

There are four swords you must collect; the trophy will pop after collecting the fourth.

    • Wooden Sword
    • Ancestral Sword
    • Dragon Sword
    • Shadowsword

This trophy is missable because you could make it to the final chapter and not have enough money left. You would almost have to intentionally try to miss this trophy.

    All locations:

    1.  Wooden Sword : Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Received during your first combat training lesson with the Master.
    2.  Ancestral Sword : Chapter 1 (Cat Village) - Received during a cut-scene after completing your second combat training lesson with the Master.
    3. Dragon Sword : Chapter 5 (Dragon Cave) – After you dodge fireballs for the first time, you will enter a room named Dragon’s Gut. In this room is a large urn. Jump inside to fall into a sewer. Follow the red crystals to find and activate a cat statue. After that, proceed to the end of the water swimming area. Backtrack slightly to follow the red crystals along the water to a dead end with the other cat statue. Now that the door is unlocked, proceed to the end of the chapter. After talking with the dragon, enter the (now unlocked) room on the west side of the room to collect your sword.
    4. Shadowsword : Chapter 8 (Swamp of Death) - After meeting with the Mayor, head across the balance beams to the turtle head statue. Behind the statue, you might be able to get a Bottle of Hornets which will make this task considerably easier. Facing the statue, head left and start jumping across the stumps and balance beams to the next island. Go quickly to avoid the hornets; do not use your Bottle of Hornets. This first island will give you a rest from the hornets. From here on out you will want to go as fast as possible across all of the balance poles until you reach the final island. Smash every jar you run across because you may get another Bottle of Hornets. Use your Bottle of Hornets sparingly but certainly when you need to. Each one lasts 20 seconds. The final sword will be in plain sight once you reach the final island.
  • Find and activate all demon portals

There are eight portals that you must find; the trophy will pop after entering the last one. These portals can only be found if you drink a Demon Potion, which only lasts for 10 seconds so you better be pretty close. In that time frame, you must enter the portal for it to count as "activating". While you do not get a specific "item" for this, I personally still think it counts as a collectible as you have to find a specific spot in the game.

This trophy is very missable because you cannot go back to previous chapters if you miss it the first time around.

    All locations:

    1. Chapter 2 (Mystic Forest) - The game will give you a brief tutorial about how these portals work; it will even show you exactly where this first one is located.
    2. Chapter 5 (Dragon Cave) – At the beginning of the chapter is a Demon Potion; do not lose it! Proceed through the chapter until you leave the water swimming area. In the same room as the save point is a portal at the base of the stairs.
    3. Chapter 7 (Nebula Islands) – You may buy a Demon Potion from the merchant, or use the Basic Claws to reach the treasure chest that is behind water bamboo east of the island where you fought 4 rats and 2 turtles. The portal is located near the final save point, which you will find after dodging falling bombs on a dock. Facing the save point, turn completely around and follow the red crystals on the dock. The portal is at the end of the dock where the red crystals end.
    4. Chapter 8 (Swamps of Death) - Buy a Demon Potion from the merchant. After meeting with the Mayor, head across the balance beams to the turtle head statue. Facing the statue, head left and start jumping across the stumps and balance beams to the next island. Go quickly to avoid the hornets. This first island will give you a rest from the hornets. From here on out you will want to go as fast as possible across all of the balance poles to reach the second island. This island will have a very noticeable ring of small mushrooms on it; the portal is within this ring.
    5. Chapter 8 (Crocodile Temple) – If you have not found any Demon Potions within the temple, you may purchase one from the merchant and return. The portal is located in the main Pump Room (where the save point is). The save point is on the north side of the room and the portal is in the SE corner.
    6. Chapter 12 (King's Palace) – If you do not have a Demon Potion when you first enter the zone, you may purchase one later from the merchant. Once you have one, the portal is located exactly where you first were at when you began this chapter.
    7. Chapter 19 (Beach of Waa-Lo) – Buy a Demon Potion from the merchant. There are 3 beach areas in this chapter; the portal is located in the Clandestine Beach which is the last beach area. The portal is right next to the northwest cave entrance.
    8. Chapter 21 (Volcano) - Buy a Demon Potion from the merchant. As part of the story, you will pass through a long stone staircase that periodically has a large boulder roll down it. The portal is at the top of the staircase.

    Video guide by SuperkenGaming:

  • Finish the game on „Nightmare“ difficulty

    Glitch Warning

There is a glitch when trying to stack the difficulty trophies. If you go through your Nightmare run and get the Like the cat that got the cream (Hard) trophy but not this trophy, then try the following:

    • After beating the final boss on Nightmare difficulty, you will pass through game credits and then end up back at the Main Menu.
    • Warning: Do NOT close down the game at this point or you will have to defeat the final boss again.
    • From the Main Menu, go in to the Extras sub-menu and then select Races.
    • Complete any of the races. Once you get the completion game pop-up for the race, this trophy should pop.
    • You do not have to get any other trophy to force the pop; just finish a race.

These trophies are clearly meant to stack because you immediately get the Hard difficulty trophy without any problem on your Nightmare difficultly game state. Some unintended game state is currently preventing the Nightmare trophy from popping right away.

Credit for the glitch workaround goes to Enlightened:

    "This is what I did.

    1. Load Nightmare save which is right before the final boss.
    2. Defeat the boss.
    3. Once back at the main menu, go to the "Extras" Menu and complete the 4th race...

Do this in one sitting. Don't beat the boss, quit the game, then jump back on and do the race. That didn't work for me."

As for beating the entire game, I found this walkthrough by ManicLaugh very helpful.

Here are my suggestions for your Nightmare run:

    • Use and abuse the save points as much as possible. This includes using them during fights (if they are available). They do not always give you full health but you always get at least 8 health points.
    • Do not worry about Magic Bottles. I did not find the special moves all that helpful on this difficulty level.
    • Only 2 chapters have any use for Bombs (Cat Village and Beach of Waa-Lo). Only 1 chapter has any use for a Bottle of Hornets (and the merchant is nearby in the Swamp of Death). The Flash Bomb is completely worthless.
    • Try to keep a Berserk and Health Bottle in your belt at all times. In later levels, I increased that to 2 of each.
    • Use armor as much as you can. If an enemy hits you with no armor, you will take full damage which increases as you progress. Towards the end some attacks will take 5 points of your life! However, if you are wearing armor, all attacks will remove 1 point of your armor only.
    • It is more cost effective to buy armor versus a Health Bottle. If your armor has 10 points, then you can get hit 10 times, regardless of what enemy hit you. In terms of health points that same enemy could be hitting for 4 points of damage per hit.
    • Use the + move (to spin behind a blocking enemy) all the time, followed immediately by  to grab them. During the animation that follows, you are completely immune to all attacks and you frequently will harm other enemies in the process. If there are many enemies, start spamming the move before the animation is complete to quickly begin it again once you become vulnerable to damage again.
    • Moving towards an enemy and pressing  followed by  performs a quick attack for knocking most enemies on the ground whereby you can follow up with 2 quick Jump Attacks via  then . Don't bother using the stronger  then Jump Attack as it leaves you vulnerable for too long when it is over.
    • The hammer is your strongest weapon. In normal combat, it can be frustrating to use as it is very slow and leaves you wide open after attacks. However, if you have it equipped when performing the 2 previous moves I mentioned, you will do maximum damage.
    • The claw is awesome against unarmored enemies because of its damage and very fast attack, which includes all enemies within Demon Portals and all flying enemies.
    • Bears cannot be grabbed via  but a + spin-around followed by a single  hammer attack works just as well.
    • Crabs cannot be grabbed and they are very armored, but they are very vulnerable to a + spin-around followed by then  to perform an Uppercut that flips them on to their back.
    • The game promotes the Combo multiplier approach for fights. The higher your multiplier, the more damage you can do. While this is possible, for me it was hit or miss if it really worked or not. Personally I found the spin-around-behind-the-enemy move much more preferable.
    • For any fights you are really struggling with, use a Berserk Bottle to give you the advantage for defeating enemies more quickly (you do more damage).

Secret trophies

  • Win the fight against Jia-Gu

Story related and cannot be missed.

Jia-Gu is a giant turtle who is the boss of Chapter 9 (Lone Swamp). The only point of the chapter is to defeat him. As bosses go, he is not that difficult. Here is what you need to know:

    • You have one singular goal: jump and triple attack the amulet above his tail.
    • His primary attack is a head lunge towards you. Dodge it and then move in for the perfect time to attack the amulet.
    • Halfway through the fight, he will also breathe noxious gas. It only does 1 point of damage and can be easily dodged with a double jump or jumping on to a lily pad or in to the mud to avoid.
    • Finish the battle quickly as he will eventually start breaking up the dock which leaves you only tree stumps to jump on. This part is not critical but it is worth noting.
    • On Nightmare difficulty, I only had to triple attack 4 times to defeat him.
  • Win the fight against Shun's bodyguard

Story related and cannot be missed.

This fight consists of 2 Hammer Gorillas, a great number of Skull Bugs, and of course Shun’s Bodyguard. Here is what you need to know:

    • Spinning around an enemy via + and then grabbing them via  can be very handy in this fight when you have the Basic Hammer equipped. Personally, I just spammed this attack the entire fight for the win. The best bonus is that you are invulnerable to damage while performing your special move.
    • Using your sword or claws on the Skull Bugs is a good way to build up your Combo multiplier (which increases your damage).
    • Never stop moving!
  • Win the fight against Qian Bei the ancestor

Story related and cannot be missed.

Qian Bei is a pretty easy boss, even on Nightmare difficulty. Here is what you need to know:

    • You have one singular goal: jump and triple attack the amulet on its back.
    • The amulet on its back has a Combo x1 lock, so you must defeat one of the stone warriors first. With your new hammer upgrade, you can  then  to defeat one of these in 1 shot, then go for the boss with your Combo x1 multiplier.
    • Its primary attack is smashing the ground which causes a shockwave (like the Hammer Gorillas) mixed with falling rocks. Do not try to double jump away from this as it won’t work. Start by running away and as soon as the shockwave starts then you can jump over it.
    • Ignore the summoned stone warriors once you have your Combo x1 multiplier.
    • After losing half of its life it will speed up and throw massive fireballs at you as well.
    • On Nightmare difficulty I only had to triple attack 4 times to defeat him.
  • Win the fight against The Dreaded Chei Ni

Story related and cannot be missed.

This is an average difficulty boss, even on Nightmare difficulty. Here is what you need to know:

    • Absolutely use your Ancient Hammer as it is the strongest weapon in your current arsenal.
    • You have one singular goal: Combo jump to the Zhongs and then triple attack the amulet near its head.
    • There are 3 rats as part of this fight. If you leave one alive, the other 2 will take a while to respawn however if you defeat them all then another 3 will respawn immediately.
    • There are only segments of time where you can attack the boss’ amulet. It won’t be attacking during this time.
    • It only has 2 attacks: a head smash attack that is preceded by a shriek and a long bout of poison from its mouth.
    • To avoid the head smashes just run left and right, using the shriek as a key as to when you need to be actively running versus changing direction.
    • Once its head turns green move to the middle of the screen and be ready to double jump (multiple times) over its poison breath. Once 50% of its life is gone, this attack will last much longer.
    • On Nightmare difficulty I had to triple attack 7 times to defeat it.
  • Win the fight against Alchemist Tak

Story related and cannot be missed.

This fight can be very difficult as most of your normal battle strategies won’t work, but there is a strategy that makes it considerably easier. Here is what you need to know:

    • There will be rat guards running around during this fight. Ignore them and focus entirely on the boss.
    • Attack #1: He will perform a spin attack followed by a jump attack. Avoid by blocking via .
    • Attack #2: He will glow pink, be invulnerable, and throw lots of bombs out in the room. Avoid by running around.
    • Attack #3: He will use chi to hit you with pink lightning. This one cannot be avoided unless you are on the opposite side of the room.
    • The secret to defeating him quickly is the Uppercut move. Wait until he does his melee attack and press  to block it; there are 2 attacks to block! Immediately after the second attack press  followed by  to perform an Uppercut move. If successful it will launch him on to his back. While he is down, use 1 or 2 quick  then  short jump attacks to hurt him more.
    • On Nightmare difficulty I only had to do 4 sets of Uppercuts/Jump Attacks to defeat him.
  • Win the fight against Minister Shun

Story related and cannot be missed.

This is the final boss of the game and like most games there are 3 phases to this battle. There is a save point between Phase 1 and 2. Before starting the fight, make sure you have full Black Armor and 5 Health Potions to make it easy on yourself.

    Phase 1

There will be henchmen gorillas running around the entire fight. Avoid them as taking them out only results in more of them. Never stop moving other than to attack the boss when possible. This fight is very easy if you follow these steps:

    1. Use the sword; the hammer is too slow for this battle.
    2. Wait for the boss to perform a triple + Jump Attack against you. Block this attack via .
    3. Immediately do a triple sword attack.
    4. He will disappear for a short time.
    5. He will reappear and shoot fireballs.
    6. He will then move in for his melee attacks.
    7. Repeat the above pattern until he is defeated. It took me 7 triple attacks on Nightmare to take him out.

    Phase 2

There is green gas rising in the middle during this fight; it cannot hurt you. Around the perimeter are two types of Zhongs: Claw and Energy. Your entire battle will revolve around using the Claw Zhongs to maintain your Combo multiplier and avoid his attacks. Here are the steps:

    1. Use the claw weapon to move from Claw Zhong to Claw Zhong. Avoid the Energy Zhongs as best you can.
    2. The boss will does melee attacks that are very hard to avoid. Using the Zhongs is the best way to avoid them.
    3. Eventually he will shoot a bunch of fireballs around the platform. These are also hard to avoid but keep using the Zhongs.
    4. Here is your small attack window. Switch to the hammer.
    5. The boss will split into 4 versions of himself; only one is really him and this is the one you must attack.
    6. Use the Combo zoom via  to attack all 4 quickly with the hammer (single swing). While you can see the amulet glowing on the real one, the camera angle is really bad and makes it very hard to see clearly. The good news is that you can easily take out all 4 if necessary.
    7. Repeat the above pattern until he is defeated. It took me 10 single hammer hits on Nightmare to take him out.

    Phase 3

This phase is very similar to phase 2. In fact, the only strategy difference is that the boss no longer splits into 4 versions of himself. He is much faster and devastating on his attacks during this phase. Follow the steps for phase 2 yet again.

With the boss being much faster, this is the portion where you will lose armor and health. On Nightmare difficulty, he takes a huge chunk of your health when hit (you can really only take 2 hits per entire 15 point health bar and still be alive).

It took me 11 single hammer hits on Nightmare to take him out. The trophy will pop immediately after this.
