Introduction:

Set amid the violence and corruption of post-World War II Los Angeles, L.A. Noire is a crime thriller that seamlessly blends crime-solving, clue-finding, car chases and shoot-outs with revolutionary new interrogation-based gameplay that will allow players to read characters' emotions in order to reveal the truth. Players will take on the role of Cole Phelps, a decorated war veteran, who rises through the ranks of the LAPD by solving a series of gruesome murders and other crimes that bring him face-to-face with the dark heart of Los Angeles during Hollywood's Golden Age.

Important Notes:

There have been cases on this forum and reports on RockStar's forums, where players have overwritten their main game save file, nicknamed by a few as the Alpha Save File (It's the one without (Replay) attached to the file name).

When playing through the game L.A. Noire will create two different save files. If you play through and beat the game without replaying any cases, you'll be fine. However should you replay cases as you go pay close attention. If you replay enough cases you will fill up the allotted amount of save slots and be asked to overwrite a game save the next time you want to replay a case. You will notice that there will be multiple save files with the title of the case followed by 'Replay' in parentheses.

Example: "Armed and Dangerous (Replay)"

These files are fine to overwrite. The main game save however, WILL NOT have 'Replay' following it in parentheses.

Example: "The Fallen Idol" <---- Main game save

Make sure when you replay a case and are asked to overwrite a save file DO NOT delete the Main game save file prior to beating the game as it will hinder (put a halt) to your main story progress. You will be left with only one course of action if you wish to continue and that is to delete your data and start over from the beginning. Please see this thread for more info on this issue. L.A. Noire Save File Glitch. Also a big thank you to Schnopps for bringing this to our attention. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Trophies not popping:

There have been reports that some trophies are not popping once you fulfill the requirements. There have been workarounds, including deleting the Game Data or restarting your PS3. There have been claims on collectible trophies not popping so it would be best to back up your L.A Noire Saved Data to make sure something like this doesn't happen to you. If there are any reports please post them. Trophies seem to not be popping for some that have completed the game and/or have the 1.01 Patch installed. Trophies that are not popping are:

  • The Brass
  • The Moose
  • Lead Foot
  • Round Heels

There are others that have a 1 to 2 minute delay.

See here for some additional tips: LINK

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete the story

L.A Noire is best played first without any spoilers, so I advise going in playing the game without a guide so you can get the full experience. The story-related trophies will pop up as they should along with the desk-specific trophies that are needed for the platinum. There are no missable trophies, so you can play the game without any worries and enjoy the story.

Step 2: Replaying cases for the 5 star rating

Replaying cases will not erase any stats you may have already, it will only update the current stats and add on to what is already there.

As you are playing toward the 5 star rating be sure to play any remaining street crime cases. Street crime cases are linked to their corresponding department desk, see The Long Arm of the Law trophy for full information.

Since most of the clues are still clear in your head for most of the cases, playing the game again will help finding any clues you may have missed. For a 5 star rating you will need to find all the clues, and guess all the questions that are important to the case to correctly arrest or apprehend the suspect with minimal damage to the city. Hitting civilians will earn you one less star than you would have received if you didn't hit a civilian.

Out of all the requirements the most important is not causing damage to civilians by shooting them or running over them with the vehicle. If you cannot complete the case without causing damage to civilians during driving the car simply press and hold button when near a vehicle to let your partner drive. Please note that having your partner drive you around the city will not help you earn 2 trophies: Miles on the Clock and Star Map (you have to drive yourself for the locations to be added and the miles to accumulate). For clues be sure to fully investigate it by pressing button or tilting the or and holding. Make sure to take advantage of the outfits feature as it will help you in your cases as they will improve your aim with certain weapons. To change your outfit to a better one you must first unlock it. There is also an outfit if you sign up for the Social Club. If you need help finding any of the clues, use the Cases guide linked below.

The only way to respond to street crimes is if you are driving a police vehicle and you press when it's dispatched (to check if it's a police vehicle simply press and see if the sirens will turn on). If you failed or died during any street crime, just drive back to the location and it will resume from the beginning.

If you are a Rockstar Games Social Club Member you can use this link and use their case tracker: Rockstar Social Club

Step 3: Collectibles

In this playthrough you want to collect all the items that you have missed in your first playthrough. Items include vehicles (95), landmarks (30), gold film reels (50), newspapers (13) and finishing up any street crimes that you may have not been able to get to in the 2 other steps (40).

Please note that if you have discovered a new vehicle but have not reached a checkpoint (auto-save point) and leave the game, the vehicle will not be saved.

Reach 100% Game Complete.
For this trophy you must complete all department cases, complete all street crime cases and find all landmarks, vehicles, gold film reels and newspapers. Below are the requirements.

  • Story cases -- 21 -- 57% (LINK)
  • Street Crimes -- 40 -- 15% (Credit to Resolute for this) (LINK)
  • Vehicles -- 95 -- 15% (LINK)
  • Film Reels -- 50 -- 7% (Credit to Resolute for this) (LINK)
  • Landmarks -- 30 -- 3% (Credit to Resolute for this) (LINK)
  • Newspapers -- 13 --3% (Credit to Resolute for this) (LINK)

Step 4: Cleanup

This is where you go for all the trophies you may have missed or didn't go for while playing the game. The trophies you may have not obtained are: The Long Arm Of The Law, The City Of The Angels, Lead Foot, The Hunch, Public Menace, The Moose, Keep A Lid On.

61 trophies ( 10  42  25  )

  • Collect all other Trophies to unlock.

Get all the non-DLC trophies to unlock this one.

  • Complete a single street crime case.

This can be achieved by completing any of the street crime cases only (non-department desk cases). Street crimes first start to get dispatched to your vehicle when you reach the first department desk (Traffic). You have to be a Police Car, Ambulance or a Fire Truck for the calls to be dispatched to you. Please see The Long Arm Of The Law for more info and the list of street crimes for each desk.

  • Respond to 20 street crimes cases.

Please see The Long Arm of the Law for more information for the names and which desk each street crime is related too. Street crimes are unlocked based on the case completed on each desk.

  • Complete all street crime cases.

Street Crimes are Desk specific and can only be complete during that Desk or in the free roam of that Desk. There are 40 cases in the game. Once you have completed all the cases while on a specific desk, you will be notified at the top left, that all the case in this desk have been completed. While on the main menu go to cases, pick a desk and go to the streets of L.A. in free roam. If you are having trouble finding a case you haven’t completed yet, press and use the / to cycle through the street crimes that are completed or still need to be done.

Please note that if all the street crimes are not completed on a specific desk and you cannot find them on the map in free roam (you do not see the Red-Man icon), simply quit the game and restart the free roam of that desk. The reason the street crimes do not appear on the map is because they only occur during a certain time of the day. Example: If you have completed 9 out of 10 crimes and all 9 were day-time crimes the 10th crime will not appear on the map until it becomes nighttime.

    • Red icons that look like a person is running are unassigned cases that are not completed.
    • Yellow icons are ones that you are on and have on your map as a point of destination.
    • White icons are the ones that are completed.

If you are having trouble finding the street crimes that you need completing just do the white ones that you have up on the map already. That way the ones on that specific case that you haven’t done yet will pop up as red icons. Street crimes will be listed by department desk and during what time they can be triggered. Please use the list below as a check list.

  • Reach 100% Game Complete.

There are 6 factors that contribute to reaching 100% game completion. The factors are: complete all story cases, all street crimes, collect all vehicles, collect all film reels, find all landmarks and newspapers. Below are the requirements for each factor and the percentage it contributes to 100% game completion. Use this link: Rockstar Social Club

Story Cases can take anywhere from 45 mins to 1.5 hours depending on whether cutscenes are skipped. Each desk will have 3 to 6 cases that need to be completed before progressing to the next. A Five star case rating is NOT required for this factor, simply complete the case.

Street Crimes are desk-specific and are easiest to complete during free roam of the corresponding desk. Street crimes are listed in 3 different colours: Red= need to complete; Yellow= currently working on it; White= completed and can be replayed at will. In free roam you can select the destination of the street crime and have your partner drive you there to save time and complete the case. See The Long Arm of the Law for full information.

Vehicles are found throughout the map and certain vehicles are more prominent in specific locations on the map. The vehicles are sub-categorized into 6 categories: 2-door (25), 4-door (19), sports (8), police (9), service (19), hidden (15). See Auto Fanatic for their locations.

Film Reels are gold in colour and the hardest to find because they are very small. See Hollywoodland for all their locations.

Landmarks - There are 30 hidden landmarks around the city. Driving close to any of these adds it to the map. Finding all 30 landmarks will gain you 3%. See Star Map for more information.

Newspapers are easiest of all the factors and can be found during the natural course of game progression through the department desks. There are a total of 13 newspapers and provide a sort of behind the scenes story to the game. Newspapers cannot be found while in free roam. Here is a picture that shows where they are found and what case they can be found on.

  • Complete a story case with a five star rating.

There are 3 factors that contribute to receiving a 5 star rating on a case. There are as follows:

    • Vehicle Damage (any damage that you cause on vehicles you drive and hit)
    • City Damage (any damage on poles, fences, benches, gas stations, etc; basically none vehicle damage/civilian injuries)
    • Injuries (any damage caused on civilians)

To ensure a 5 star rating make your partner drive you to every location and follow the cases guide for the rest. This will ensure a 100% 5 star rating guaranteed. Please note that if your partner drives this will disable getting the Miles On The Clock trophy (drive 194.7 miles).

To get 5 star rating you must collect all/majority of the clues, guess all/majority of the questions correct (True, Doubt or Lie) during the interrogation and not hurt any pedestrians during the case. By using an Intuition point you can remove a wrong question during the interrogation or ask the community in social club. Intuition points also help highlight evidence in a crime scene but keep in mind that you have a limited amount of Intuition points.

In a crime scene when near clues your controller will vibrate if enabled and you will hear chime sounds, which will indicate that there is a clue nearby. Press to view the clue and turn left and right to see it from a different angle. You can also further investigate clues by pressing button again. When all clues have been discovered the music will fade and you can also look at your notebook to see if the location objective is crossed off, which means you have found all clues. At the end of your case you will have a case overview that will show you what you missed under case notes (if something missed; clues or questions). As you rank up it will be easier to find clues. Detected clues are highlighted on the map.

Please Note: You can get 5 stars without getting all the clues but you must have minimal damage/injuries and not miss any questions and vice versa. If you made a mistake on questioning then you must have all clues and minimal to no damage/injuries. One example is I have completed a case with all clues found and questions correct but have had about $1340 in vehicle damage and about $400 in city damage and did NOT get a 5 star rating. There is a limit to all 3 categories before falling from 5 to 4 star rating. Please use this thread to get this trophy: Complete Cases Guide (Clues & Interviews) + DLC Cases

  • Complete all story cases with a five star rating

Tip From Rockstar: Finding it hard to earn five star ratings on cases? Turn off both the 'Clue Hints' and 'Action Skip' options in the Gameplay settings, to instantly boost your ratings by 2 stars.

Note: If you have the DLC cases installed prior to going for this trophy, you don't need to 5 star the DLC to get this trophy.

The fastest way to get each case done (unless required) is to let your partner drive to each location. That way you get to each location sooner and cut the overall case time by 5 to 15 minutes and not cause any harm to any civilians that can harm your overall star rating.

Getting the majority of clues and answering all the interrogation/interview questions correctly is the best way to achieve a good rating at the end of a case. All clues and questions are not required (you can forgot one (1) or two (2) and still get 5 stars) but other clues can be key clues to solving the crime and choosing the right suspect to charge.. There will be times where you will be required to pick a person to charge out of multiple suspects to get a five star rating, most times you will get a hint from the chief of that department on who to choose, just pay attention when that time comes. If you need assistance see the links below.

You must get a five (5) star rating on all four police department desk's cases. See The Up and Up trophy for 5 star requirements and cases guide below for list and description. The first 4 cases on the Patrol Desk and the last case on Arson are not requirements for this trophy. Those cases do not have a star rating but you still must complete those cases. You can also check this guide out with help of all the locations of the Clues and answers to every question: LINK or II OR II's 100% Case Guide

  • Achieve maximum rank

The maximum rank is 20. You can obtain experience during your investigations on cases. Finding evidence and being a good interrogator will help you to move up in the ranks. Each landmark gives you +5 XP towards the next rank. During questioning, for every question correctly answered you will get +5 experience points. If you have The Badge Pursuit Challenge (DLC) that contains 20 police badges, you will get +5 experience for every badge obtained. Every collectible you find gives you +5 XP; you will need a total of 1140 XP to get to Rank 20. With each rank you will get +1 Intuition point (maximum five at one time). For every 5 ranks (rank 5, 10, and 15 only, not 20) you will receive locations of 5 hidden rare vehicles and other ranks will net you some Suits. You cannot earn XP while replaying cases.

    • One Question Answered Correctly = +5
    • Obtain a Film Reel = +5
    • Discover a landmark = +5
    • Complete a Street Crime = +15
    • Collect a DLC Hidden Shield = +5 (DLC only)

If you want to know what rank you are and/or how much XP you need to achieve the next rank, from the L.A. Noire screen press to start and then press to go to Social Club (Where you will need to have a Social Club ID - make one at the Rockstar Social Club site, you will also need to link your PSN ID to your Social Club ID).

  • Stop a fleeing suspect with a warning shot as an LAPD Detective.

There are times where Cole will have to apprehend a suspect alive, this will be the time where Cole will take out his weapon and you will have to aim down the suspect. Once your cross-hair is on the suspect you will see a meter start to fill the circle; it fills up Clockwise. Once the meter is filled, a short cutscene will happen and Cole will shoot one in the air, stopping the fleeing suspect. You can do this in most street crimes you do or later in the game on a story case. You will get a chance to try this out when you are a Patrolman.

Helpful hint: A side mission that suits this trophy perfectly is the "Daylight Robbery" mission available during the first ad vice case: Thank you dz06lt for the tip.

  • Chase down and tackle a fleeing suspect on foot as an LAPD Detective.

While chasing a fleeing suspect you will have the optional to tackle the suspect, but only if Cole doesn’t have his gun out. If Cole's gun isn’t out you will need to stay close to the suspect. Once you are close enough, you will be prompted to press rapidly; you will see Cole start to run a lot faster, there will be a short cutscene once you get close to the suspect to tackle him. The video below is from the case "The Golden Butterfly" on the Homicide Desk.

  • Disable a Suspect vehicle with help from your partner.

You will need to have your partner on the passenger side of the car, once a chase breaks out and you have to stop the fleeing car, let your partner shoot out the tires of the left side of the car. Once that is done, hit the car and leave the car unusable.

You will be able to earn this trophy in “The Fallen Idol” case during the Traffic Desk. During a section of the game, there will be a chase that takes place, all you have to do is slow down and let your partner shoot the tires off the car that is chasing you. After your partner has blown out the tires you will need to hit the car and have the car stop, leaving the car unable to be driven again. If the people in the car are still able to shoot at you just run them over with your car. Thanks to PowerPyx for the Video.

  • Use evidence to prove a lie as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

There will be times where you will need to prove that a suspect or witness is lying about the information they are giving you or withholding. Just use a piece of evidence when you think you can prove a lie. Check the spoiler tag if you want to get this trophy out of the way as early as possible.

The best way to prove a person is lying is to gather up all the clues before talking to a suspect or witness. Thanks to Petedappa for the video.

The video below shows how to get the trophy in the case "The Driver's Seat" on Traffic Desk. First you will need to find the Concealed Message clue. The clue is found in the bedroom dresser next to the glasses case. Look at the picture and further investigate to see the back of the picture and find the clue. Then talk to Margaret Black and the question is "Photograph Signed "Nicole"?", chose Lie and prove with the Concealed message clue.

YouTube - L.A. Noire - The Straight Dope Trophy

  • Find and inspect a clue as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

The first place that this trophy can be achieved is during the "The Driver's Seat" case. The location of the first place is the P.E. Freight Depot. At that location in front of the car there is a yellow tag on the ground and there is a wallet and glasses. Select the glasses and turn until you get the right angle and zoom in to see Stenzel. At this point you should see on the bottom left corner of the screen New Clue: Glasses. Any clue you find at that location will grant you this trophy. The trophy should pop shortly after. Thanks to MonsterAchievements for the video!

YouTube - L.A. Noire - One For The File - Achievement Guide

  • Clear a case finding every clue as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

There are a total of 7 to 19 clues that can be found in any case that can be helpful to your investigation. If you need help finding any of the clues, press and scroll down to show all clues. By doing that will show all the clues that are in that area. Showing all clues will use one of your Intuition points. Magnify glasses will pop up on the mini map, showing you the location of the clues in that area; you will need to press to pick them up.

If you don't want to use any Intuition points, please see the cases guide: (Click Here for Clue Location & Question Guide)

The case “A Marriage Made in Heaven” has 9 clues and they are easy enough to locate. If you are having troubles finding the clues you can change the settings in the game to play the music and have the controller vibrate when you are close to a clue. The 9 clues are:

    Station Briefing

    • Hit and Run Vehicle - This will be added after the cut scene at the beginning of the case.

    Ray's Cafe

    • Wallet - Examine the victims body and check the right breast pocket.
    • Insurance Letter - Check the left breast pocket.
    • Coroner's Report - After examining the body the coroner will give you his report.
    • Bloody Knife - This can be found in a garbage can in the left alleyway at Ray's Cafe.

    Shannon Perry Interview

    • Argument Overheard - Unlocked during interview.
    • Red Lincoln Continental - Unlocked during interview.

  • Find and solve an inspection puzzle.

This will be achieved at the second location of your first outing as a detective while on the traffic case. The first chance you get to earn this trophy is during the "Driver's Seat" case.

After knocking on the door and speaking to the Mrs. Black about her husband, head to the right side of the house. You will see a set of pipes that are on the floor, put it together and you will see a piece of the set is missing. After you have completed the puzzle the trophy will pop.

  • Keep the needle above 80mph for more than ten seconds while driving.

There are a lot of cars that can go 80+ miles per hour. Once you get to the traffic case or any case that you want, just turn on the sirens and drive as fast you can on a straight road. Try your best to stay in the left lane, due to the cars always driving to the right when they hear a car is police car is coming. If you are having trouble getting this trophy, locate a rare car (marked as a question Mark (?) if you haven't found it yet or a car if you did) on your map once you reached a certain rank (5,10,15). Using one of those cars will net you this trophy very quickly.

Note: Trying to do this while on a case can affect your overall star rating if you hit any other cars or pedestrians.

YouTube - L.A. Noire - Lead Foot Trophy / Achievement Guide

If you are having troubles getting this trophy, find a Police car or one of the rare cars and head over to the airport. Here is an image of the location.

During The Fallen Idol Case: Thanks k1ll1ng5pr33 for the tip.

When you leave Marlon Hopgood's place, once you enter your car, they will shoot you and a chase will start. Keep holding and just keep driving on the road you're on. Once the chasers are gone, the trophy unlocks.

  • Drive more than 194.7 miles.

Simply drive around in any vehicle. The miles stack from each car driven during the game. Also interesting info as to why it is 194.7 miles, is that it’s because this game takes place in 1947, the year of the highest crime rate in LA. If you want to know how many miles that you have driven, press and locate the statistics section for more info.

Note: If you let you partner drive it will not count towards the total miles driven, so make sure you do all the driving through the game until you get this trophy.

  • Bring down a total of 30 bad guys with head shots.

I advise going for this trophy very early in the game and go for headshots only. There are enough enemies in the game to get this trophy. If you are the type of person to use free aim, this will be easy to obtain. Just use cover and wait until the person you want to shoot gets out of cover, Cole can take about 3-7 hits from most of the guns in the game before he dies. You can replay a case after you beat the game if you haven't achieved this trophy at that point.

Note: If you are having trouble taking too much damage use the Hawkshaw suit (take an extra dose of damage and stay standing).

  • Shoot and kill a total of 100 bad guys.

This will come naturally as you complete desk cases and go for all the street crimes. There are more than enough enemies in the game to get this trophy. You can also replay cases to get any kills you may have missed. If you are having trouble getting kills, use cover often, there is no time limit for any case or street crime you are on. So take as much time as you can. While you are going for this trophy, change guns as often as you can to work on the Roscoe And Friends trophy at the same time.

  • Kill at least one bad guy with every gun.

You can use chapter select to get this trophy. There are only 9 guns in L.A Noire. Please see the spoiler tag for more info and locations. Thanks sdsodin for pointing out the extra gun. Also, here is a detailed mini guide that will help you find the locations of each weapon.

    1. Colt 38 – This is only available in the Armed and Dangerous case, when you are a Patrolman. You will need to drop the Shotgun to use it.
    2. Shotgun – This is given to you in the Armed and Dangerous case. You can just kill one person and then go back to the hand gun. to drop a weapon.
    3. Rifle – This is a single shot rifle that you will get during one of the case.
    4. Thompson – This can be found in many cases, but the first time you get to use this weapon is during ‘The Fallen Idol’ case while on the traffic desk. There are two versions (Drum & Stick).
    5. FN Browning -- Jack’s Pistol. You will need to just use this once and it will be logged as one kill.
    6. Flamethrower –This will be automatically picked up during the last mission. Only Jack will be able to use this and make sure you don’t drop the weapon until the trophy pops or you have at least one kill with it. Make sure to get at least one kill before reaching the end of the hallway after going up the ladder.
    7. Bar (Browning automatic rifle) – This can only be found in 3 different cases (Manifest Destiny, A Polite Invitation and A Different Kind of War).

More info below for each weapon and their locations. Thanks CrosbyIsGod for the information.

Can be found in a room, has a load of guns and a set of crates.

  • Find and inspect 95% of all clues.

Note: Clues found in the DLC do not count towards this trophy.

You can get this trophy by replaying cases. There are a total of 241 clues in the game, all from each of the 21 cases that are in the game. You will need a total of 229 clues to get this trophy. If you have beaten the game and still haven't received this trophy, you can replay case(s) that you may have missed clues in. The game saves all clues found and once you find a clue that you may have missed the game will register that one to the total already found prior to replaying the case. You should earn this trophy in the last case in your main playthrough or during your time replaying case to get the Shamus To The Stars trophy.

If you are having trouble finding the clues and you don't want to use a guide, there are Intuition points you can use. There are five points that can be used during each case once they have been earned, unless you are replaying a case (They are already given). You can use Intuition by pressing when you are at a crime scene or at a suspect's/victim's house and scroll down to show all clues, making all the clues visible to you (they will show up as a magnifying glass).

You will know when there are more clues in the area when the investigation music continues to play. There will be a chime and the music will stop playing once all the clues have been found. Also when you leave the location, press to see if the location has been crossed out, if so there are no clues left, if it's not there are more clues there.

Make sure to check your Notebook and to see how many clues you have. If you need assistance make sure to go to the options section in the pause menu to turn the hint music and vibration on. You can use this Guide to help find all the clues: LINK

  • Tail a suspect without being spotted, in a single case.

Please note that if you fail once, you will need to start the case over. There is another chance to get this trophy and that is when you are going for The Moose trophy. Please see that trophy for more info.

The very first place that this trophy can be achieved is in the case The Driver's Seat on Traffic Desk. Simply play the case until you reach the interview with Frank Morgan in Cavanagh's Bar. At this point make sure you guess the questions WRONG that way it will force a tail on Frank Morgan. For both questions simply select TRUE as the answer and you will have to tail Frank Morgan to his apartment where Adrian Black is.

The second place that it can be achieved is on the case "The Fallen Idol" on the Traffic Desk. You will tail June Ballard until you reach a cafe. At this point you must get inside the cafe without alerting her. At the entrance of the cafe press to go incognito and then move over to the booth with the newspaper on the left of the entrance and sit. At this point the trophy should pop-up.

  • Correctly branch every question in every interview in a single story case.

You can easily get this trophy while a patrolman during the Buyer Beware case. There are only 6 questions that need to be asked during that case and can easily be branched. You will know when you got a question right, since Cole will put a check mark next to each topic asked if correct, an cross if it is wrong. Please see the spoiler tag for more info for 2 interviews done early in the game, while on a case called "Buyer Beware." Thanks Petedappa for the video.

  • Use four intuition points in conversation with a single suspect, correctly branching each question.

If you don't have enough Intuition points just replay an old case and you will start off with 5 Intuition points. You will need to be Rank five (5), while at that rank you should have at least four (4) Intuition points. Intuition points can be used to find all the clues, get read of an answer or ask the community if you are signed online. This time you will need to use it during an interview, but you will also need to have all the clues before you can go about getting this trophy. You can get this during your first interview as a Traffic desk detective.

First make sure you have at least 4 Intuition points and a character with at least 4 questions available to ask. The very first place where this can be achieved is in Traffic Desk, case The Fallen Idol. Using during a interview will allow you to remove an answer from the 3 given and a set of clues that are not related to the interview.

    Interviewing: June Ballard.

    • June Ballard Dropping Allegation? Doubt ()
    • Injured Female Passenger? Lie (prove with Underwear clue) ()
    • Suspect “make Bishop”? Doubt ()
    • Fake shrunken head? Doubt ()

  • Discover all landmark buildings around the city.

There are 30 landmarks in this game to find. When you find one, the landmark will be added to your map and you will receive +5 XP. Once you drive pass a landmark, it will automatically register as a landmark found. The location of the landmark will pop up on your map. You can see the location as a camera when you press and look at the map.

To find the landmarks fast and easy, simply select the free roam session on any department desk and look at the link below or the video and select the landmark you are looking for as your destination on your map. Let your partner drive by pressing and holding that way you won't waste time driving especially if it's across the map. This way you will get there in about 5-10 seconds and once at the location drive around the landmark so that it registers. Just keep in mind though that if your partner drives it will not count towards the 194.7 miles trophy.

  • Rack up $47,000 in penalties during a single story case.

There are several methods that can used to obtain this trophy, The easiest is to complete it with the Rare Vehicles because they respawn instantly.

How to get the case done quickly
You can skip most of the interviews and you only have to find 3 clues to get to the end. Just get the receipt from the trunk, his address from his wallet, don't bother talking to the guy at the rail yard, go to the house, get the matchbook, ask the wife about the receipt and the matchbook then leave, and you're set from there as long as you do the Morgan interview right (get the location without having to tail him). It takes maybe 10 minutes to go through the whole case once you're satisfied with your carnage. Thanks to ReverendSID for the tip.

    Method 1:
Destroying the American La France Fire Truck six times is the fastest method to rack up damage. Get the fire truck and reverse the truck into a gas station pump area. The gas station will blow up and destroy the fire truck, leaving you unharmed. Make sure you do not drive the truck into the gas pump head on, you will die and reset the whole count. You can find the truck close to the Ad Vice police station, that is located in Hollywood.

    Method 2:
Play the "The Driver's Seat" case on Traffic Desk. Simply play the case until you have to go to Frank Morgan's apartment, but do not go in because it will force an auto-finish case at this point. Get the Duesenberg Walker Coupe (Rare - on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd and El Centro Ave in Hollywood). Enter a garage behind the Automobile Club of Southern California. Simply crash 7 of those cars by reaching max speed and hitting a car coming from opposite direction. You must do this until the hood of the car starts on fire and you are no longer able to drive it.

    Method 3 (Three)
Find the Phantom Corsair (Rare Car). The car spawns right away once you leave the garage. The car takes about 2 to 3 full on hits to another car before it's totaled. It will take about 6 of these cars before you reach the required amount. Once you have totaled one car you can head back to the garage and get another to total to reach the required 47,000. Totaling 6 of those cars will net you over 51,000 dollars in damage. Make sure you do not die at all, dying will reset the count and leave you at zero once you start the case again. Thanks to Vuule for the info.

YouTube - L.A. Noire: Public Menace Achievement Guide

Note: If you happen to not get this trophy and you have replayed the first traffic case, just go to resume and choose the "The Driver's Seat (Replay)" case. That way you will start off right before you end the case, right before you confront the last suspect.

  • Tail Candy Edwards from the parking lot to her destination without using cover or going incognito, except when starting or picking up the tail.

You can also earn The Shadow trophy at this time if you haven't done so already. If you get caught, you will have start that scene over by pressing , then quitting and resuming the game from the interview in her house, that will ensure that you get the trophy. Do not Retry!

You will earn this trophy during The Set Up case while on the Vice desk. You will end up leaving Candy’s home and tailing her. You should never press the or buttons while in this objective of this case. Don’t ever get into cover or go incognito (sit on a bench, read a paper (you start off that way) or look at a window). You can hide behind a car if needed or a tree as long as you don’t press the to get into cover.

The best way to go about this trophy is to stay at a distance. Stay at least a block away, but keep her in view until she turns a corner. If the red blip on the mini map starts to blink, it means you have lost sight of her. Staying that far away from will not spook her nor will she stop to turn around and see if she is being followed.

  • Complete a brawl without losing your hat as an LAPD Detective or Investigator.

It's easier to achieve this trophy while wearing THE BRODERICK outfit (hit harder and take more punches before going down). It will take down an enemy faster due to punching harder.

The best way to get this trophy is to always use the block button, make sure you press to target you opponent as quickly as possible. Press the button to throw punches. When you get the chance (it will show up) press to throw a finishing blow. You can also use the button to grab an enemy and the button to throw and the headbutt the enemy.

This trophy can be earned in the first case, while on the Homicide desk. You will need to interview Jacob Henry, your partner pushes a little to hard and a fight breaks out. I would advise pressing as quickly as possible and moving back, because Jacob starts throwing punches fairly early. The video below shows how to earn the trophy, but is a bit harder since you might end up fighting more than one person in a single fight.

    Fighting Controls
    Punch -
    Dodge/Hold To Block -
    Grapple Moves -

    Alternative Method: Thanks to technole.
During the "Golden Butterfly" case you end up chasing a suspect when you arrive at the school. Chase him nearly all the way to where your partner blocks him with the car. Now back off a bit up the hill. Cole will eventually go into the brawling animation when your partner traps him but you don't really have to fight him at all! If you stand around for a minute during that animation, the scene will end in your favour anyway so you still get the trophy at the end of the cut scene. Thanks technole for the video.

Secret trophies

  • Find and inspect all of the Marquee-printed pink slips.

*Missable* There are two key places you'll need to acquire pink slips that are not automatically given to you. The first location is after questioning Cliff Harrison (following the vehicle pursuit mentioned in Nowhere In A Hurry). You will ask about the vehicle being stolen and must confirm "Truth" on this first question so that he provides you with his pink slip (check both sides of the slip by inspecting further). Then, after the shootout at Industrial Street, you’ll interrogate Steven Bigelow after finding him hiding in an upstairs office. Behind him, on the desk, you will see the Marquee-printed pink slips (a pink stack of papers in a box). Simply inspect this evidence to unlock the trophy.

Here is a simple and quick video from BenVersusBear to show the 4 slip locations:

LA Noire - Racing for Pinks

  • Correctly branch every question in the interview with Jean Archer.

*Missable* To earn this trophy you must correctly respond to Jean Archer’s interrogation answers while speaking with her in the Western Union office. You will be informed of her location by a uniformed officer at the station when you attempt to leave the 2nd time you visit. The trophy will unlock after the arrest is completed. See the spoiler for the correct question and response actions required:

    Question: Stolen Kaiser Frazer?

    • Respond: Doubt

    Question: Association with Belasco?

    • Respond: Lie
    • Present Proof: Belasco's Ownership Papers

    Question: Stolen Auto Courier?

    • Respond: Doubt

Here is a simple and quick video from BenVersusBear to show the 3 responses:

    LA Noire - Femme Imbecile

  • During the Industrial Street raid, kill a goon by shooting the hanging engine block.

*Missable* A shootout will occur once you reach the “chop shop.” When you first enter the building you will notice an engine block, in the back, hanging from a chain. Shooting the chain or engine will cause the engine block to fall and explode the barrels beneath. Any enemies in the area will be killed by the explosion so just make sure to drop the block before killing all of them with your gun. If you miss getting a kill from the engine block simply let them kill you. You'll restart just prior for a chance to try again.

  • Catch and arrest Cliff Harrison before he is stopped by uniformed backup.

*Missable* In the beginning of the vehicle chase with Cliff Harrison, you’ll need to destroy his vehicle to make him stop. The vehicle must be stopped prior to it reaching the uniformed patrol’s road block setup on Temple Street. Try to hit his tire well while steering slightly into him, strike him as he turns at intersections or even push his vehicle into other cars. He will sometimes try to continue on even after stopped so make sure he is immobilized before exiting your vehicle.

Secret trophies

  • Find and inspect all of the narcotics in Julia Randall's apartment.

*Missable* In order to complete this you must discover all narcotics clues at the murder scene in the apartment. A Morphine clue is added automatically at the station briefing and doesn't count toward trophy. The trophy unlocks immediately after finding the last narcotics clue at the apartment.

    • Empty Morphine Surette - Bottom floor of building (left side as you enter) in a trashcan between apartments 1 and 2.
    • Sleeping Pills - Bedroom floor at foot of the bed
    • Benezedrine Prescription - Bedroom nightstand (inspect until prescription found)
  • Tail Henry Arnett from Hollywood Station to the pawnbroker and travel agent without being spotted.

*Missable* This trophy is achieved by successfully tailing Henry Arnett, first in a vehicle and then on foot. You must keep from being detected through this entire tail. ANY restart due to being detected or failing and you will NOT unlock trophy. If unsuccessful, "quit out" and "resume," which will start you at the station interview room prior to the tail. Once completed, the trophy unlocks during a conversation with your partner over an item recovered from a pawn shop (NOT immediately after completing tail).

Remember when following that the red icon of the suspect will flash to indicate either too close or too far away. When on foot, stand close to objects and press to go into Incognito (cover). Do not use sirens, strike vehicles or move too quickly (like running) or you can be detected.

  • Escort Heather Swanson to Arnett's apartment without damaging your vehicle.

*Missable* In the course of investigating you will travel to interview burglary victim, Mrs. Evestrom, where you (again) meet her daughter, Heather Swanson. You'll be tasked with escorting (driving) Ms. Swanson safely to Henry Arnett's apartment. It is a long distance away and for the trophy you must not strike any object. If in an accident, "Quit Out" and then "Resume," to again return to the Evestrom mansion before escort. The trophy will NOT unlock if continuing after an accident.

Use your siren and watch for cross traffic at intersections. Go slow even though you are using the siren as other cars will not always move over. Pressing will lead your partner to give directions to the location provided you've pinned it on the map. Upon reaching Henry Arnett's apartment the trophy will unlock (following cutscene).

Here is the most direct route with the least turns. Thanks Vuule:

*Missable* During the final scenes of the game you will have a foot pursuit with a suspect. He will climb a tower of a hotel where the name "Broadway" will be lit in bright lights. Shooting the letters causes the lights to explode. For the trophy, shoot all of the letters out prior to shooting the suspect.

Secret trophies

  • Find and inspect the prop spinner at the Nicholson blast site.

*Missable* This trophy is earned by properly assembling the aircraft part discovered at the scene of Nicholson Electroplating. To find the part simply take the rightmost path while investigating the blast scene. The right side path will turn right a second time, as it curves slightly back upon itself, and the large metal part is easily found upon the ground there. Aligning the pieces correctly unlocks the trophy.

  • Find and inspect all clues inside Okamoto's ransacked apartment.

*Missable* The description for this trophy is somewhat misleading as you must discover not only all the clues inside the ransacked apartment (there are 4 clues that register in the notebook) but you must also discover a New P.O.I. (Person of Interest). The trophy will unlock immediately after finding the last clue at the apartment. Note: The trophy is also dependent upon finding a piece of gold jewelry located at the blast site. If you do not discover this previous matching jewelry item before going to the apartment you will not unlock the trophy.

Here are the clues and their locations:

    • Ring - Check right hand of victim from the icebox.
    • Wristwatch - Check left wrist.
    • New P.O.I. - Check face area of victim.
    • Tie Pin - Find on the floor in front of the fireplace.
    • Microfilm - Inspect the gold jewelry located on a Bedroom dresser. This matches the gold jewelry piece found at the initial crime scene and that clue is required to unlock this one.
  • Kill the drivers of both MP vehicles in the gun battle at Hughes Aircraft, before they pull up.

*Missable* Immediately upon finishing the chase sequence with Vernon Mapes (see Out Of The Frying Pan trophy) you will become engaged in a shootout. During the shootout, 4 enemy MP vehicles (green with star on the door) will drive into the shootout to join the gunfight against you and your partner. To unlock the trophy you must kill 2 MP vehicle drivers prior to them exiting the vehicle. Getting very close to the MP vehicles and to the locations they arrive is paramount to getting easier kills on the driver prior to the vehicle stopping.

The first thing to know is that your aim assist will pull your gunfire and will cause your gun to aim at enemies running nearby. Aim Assist should, however, be set to high to assist with this trophy ( to Pause then choose Options > Controls > Aim Assist > High).

Immediately at the start of the gunfight, quickly shoot the guard at the guardhouse to your right. Then sprint forward to take aim directly over the front hood of the MP vehicle already parked here. Aim toward the direction of the green truck while you await the first vehicle’s arrival. Take careful but fast aim at the driver’s head for a quick kill. Pre-aiming at the spot helps ensure you are ready and closing the distance allows for more of a chance of getting on the driver as a target. Learn the location of the where the vehicle will stop if subsequent attempts are necessary. The vehicles arrive and stop in the exact same location each time provided you are moving in the manner detailed.

With the first driver dead (you will hear the horn sound from the driver slumping onto the wheel when successful) you now need to sprint back to the street. Soon another MP vehicle will drive down the street toward you (a red vehicle icon always shows on the map). Take a position out into the middle of the street and get close to take aim while the vehicle is closing toward you. The other MPs can’t shoot you there and will not follow you. The lone driver of this MP vehicle is an easy kill when you get close enough. Take aim as early as you can and hit the button repeatedly to get aim assist to help target him. Pull up slightly for headshots.

The trophy does not unlock immediately upon finishing the two kills so continue to try with the next two vehicles just in case. Actively sprint toward where these MP cars will stop and try to get in front of them to more easily shoot the driver through the front of the windshield. Remember that you may want to try with different guns available in the trunk (including the DLC Piano gun if purchased) and bonus outfit choices (such as the Sharpshooter's accuracy bonus) can also be beneficial. Concentrate on getting kills while very close to the vehicles and don't be overly concerned about being killed as this is usually a minimal risk.

All MP vehicles inside the fence (where the first vehicle was) will appear each time in the same pre-determined locations with the third one coming from the left and then the last one appearing from the right. Killing a certain number of enemies or advancing forward is what triggers the MP vehicles 2-4 to arrive.

If the trophy does not unlock, or you failed to get two driver kills, then retain at least 1 or 2 enemies at the end so that you can run into their gunfire and die. Continue will reset you immediately prior to the arrival cutscene and you will still be able to unlock the trophy. Be aware that 3 failures will prompt you to skip the shootout (unless skip action sequence option is set to off) and you must respond “No” so that you don’t save beyond this save checkpoint until you've earned the trophy. Remember that this trophy is Missable and if you reach the next auto savepoint you will require a complete case restart.

  • Pursue Vernon Mapes from the burning house to Hughes Aircraft on your first attempt.

*Missable* During the course of the case, you will investigate a house from a photograph clue that was discovered. Following a cutscene there, you will begin a vehicle pursuit with Vernon Mapes. Unlocking the trophy requires pursuing Vernon all the way back to the Hughes Aircraft facility without failing (losing sight of him). There will be other vehicles in the pursuit that will attempt to stop you. Remember when pursuing that the red vehicle icon on the map will show the suspects direction and will fade to indicate you are getting too far away.

If you fail at this challenge you will need to “Quit Out” to the main menu and “Resume” your case from the last automatic save checkpoint (which is just prior to entering the house).

Accidents during this pursuit could negatively affect getting a 5 star rating for the case.

Secret trophies

  • Complete the puzzle of the US Morgan silver dollars at Parnell's Soup.

*Missable* A puzzle challenge is given to you following the shootout at Parnell's Soup. Arrange these Morgan silver dollars so that they spell 'Masangkay Metals'. This will also prompt another investigator to tell you the address so that you can then travel to that location to complete the case. Collecting all Morgan silver dollars is not necessary to be given this puzzle.

The locations of the Morgan Silver Dollars are:

    • Juan's Silver Dollar - Juan Garcia Cruz’s Residence in coat pocket of first dead criminal, Juan Cruz.

This hidden room is accessed by pulling on the light tan colored flour can on the middlemost shelf. This room then contains some evidence hidden inside sealed soup cans. The trophy is unlocked by opening these two specific cans located near the mounted can opener. The cans you will need to pick up and open will have lighter colored lids than other nearby cans.

  • Find the flyer at Juan Garcia Cruz's house and proceed straight to the 20th Century Market.

*Missable* Following the shootout at the stash house, you'll search for evidence. There is a newspaper flyer in a back room that provides details on the 20th Century Market. To unlock the trophy you must make your next driving destination the 20th Century Market and not Parnell’s Soup Co. Factory. Traveling to the soup company factory will allow you to achieve a 5 star rating but you will not unlock this trophy.

The 20th Century Market will also remain locked until you have located the following items while at the stash house:

    • POI: Juan Garcia Cruz - Locate the wallet (right coat pocket) of the initial dead suspect at your feet. Inspect the license closely.
    • Clue: Juan’s Silver Dollar (Gunman's Silver Dollar) - Check the left coat pocket.
    • Locate: Newspaper ad - Find the paper in the back room of the house. Inspecting closely provides a new location called 20th Century Market.
    • Clue: Tijuana dope shipments - Inspect the first line in blue Parnell ledger found in the secret room of the chicken coop.
    • Clue: Soup Cans - Pick up and open the two cans to the right of the ledger (near the can opener). The lids of the cans will appear as a lighter color. At least one can must be opened for this trophy.

Note: This trophy unlocks late and after several cutscenes occur at the 20th Century Market.

  • Enter the Las Palmas stash house via the back door and kill Juan Garcia Cruz.

*Missable* This trophy is earned by killing two suspects located inside the stash house but only after entering the house by way of the back door. Initially you will be tempted to shoot the suspects through the front window but don’t. Leaving cover will also get you killed very quickly. Simply move along the wall to the left and then go down the fence line located to the left of the house. Once you are away from the front of the house, hop the fence and enter through the back door. Once inside you should walk while aiming in anticipation of the two kills needed for the trophy.
