Krinkle Krusher is a type of castle defence game that is a cross buy purchase for PS Vita, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Inspired by many tower defense games, Krinkle Krusher changes the player role, granting him the chance to cast spells to defend your kingdom from creatures called Krinkles. The guide was written whilst playing the Playstation 4 version of the game but it applies to all formats.

It’s a relatively straightforward and fun little game. It can be frustrating at parts but is generally a quick 100%. There are two trophies that will take up most of your time spent in the game, those being The greatest mage of all time & You shall not, pass! Both will require you go back and replay the levels to a 3 star standard whilst obtaining a flawless victory.

Step 1: Play & beat the game

Simply play the game through its 3 zones and 60 levels. It sounds like a lot but all the levels are quick and straightforward. Whilst playing through the game you’ll also want to look out for the miscellaneous trophies. You should also earn 3 stars on enough levels so that you can unlock the mage's room to begin upgrading your magic rings. This isn't a necessity but is advised.

Upon completion of this step, you will have earned the following

  • Call 2 Duty
  • Heavy Metal
  • 50 shades of bones
  • The day after tomorrow
  • Krin-KABUM!
  • Say "Hello" to my little friends!
  • Bombs Away!
  • That’s A Spicy Meatball!
  • I'm the one who Knocks... Back!
  • Let´s make some magic!

Step 2: Clean up, replaying levels for flawless victory, 3 stars & Spellcraft

Go back and replay all the levels that you don't have 3 stars & flawless victory for. Remember to keep visiting the mage's room to upgrade your magic rings to level 5. Doing so will make the levels substantially easier & unlock the corresponding trophy.

Upon completion of this step, you will have earned the following and have the trophy list at 100% complete:

  • Spellcraft
  • The greatest mage of all time
  • You shall not, pass!

13 trophies ( 5  )

  • Upgrade the 5 elemental rings to level 5.

For every level you earn 3 stars on you will be awarded a magical gem. These work as the game’s currency, allowing you to upgrade your magical rings and castle wall health pool. Each of the 5 rings has 4 upgrade slots requiring a total of 9 gems per ring. Therefore, 45 magical gems are required to unlock the trophy.

The castle wall can also have its health pool upgraded but this doesn't affect the trophy and since we're going for flawless victory, we won't be putting any priority on upgrading this.

  • Knock back the King with spikes and tornados.

King Krinkle is the final boss in the game, you will face him at the end of the third zone (level 60).

This trophy requires you to stagger the King with spikes which is done by placing a mud pit over the leave piles and waiting for him to step on them, once he does he will then hop whilst holding his sore foot, this is where you must release a tornado towards him. If done right he will lose his balance and fall over, in turn popping the trophy.

Note that using the tornado prior to staggering the king will remove any leave piles from the ground meaning you will have to wait for more before you can place spike pits.

  • Feed Kranium with some spicy krinkles!

Kranium Krinkle is the second boss you will face in the game at the end of the second zone (level 40). He will periodically cast an inhale on his Krinkle minions, inhaling them to replenish a small portion of his health. Prior to doing this you will hear a wind-like sound, this is where you’ll want to place a firewall in front of him catching any of his minions in the flames. He will then inhale the minions that are on fire, in turn unlocking the trophy.

  • Knock back the Mecha Krinkle with his own bomb.

Mecha Krinkle is the first boss you’ll face in the game at the end of the first zone (level 20). For the trophy you are required to send one of his own bombs back towards him. He will periodically send bombs your way during the fight. Simply cast a tornado at the bomb sending it back to him and it will explode on impact. Knock him over, daze him & more importantly, unlock the trophy.

  • This is story-related and will come naturally as you play through the levels. You will unlock 6 different spells over the course of the game. They are Energy Bolt , Fire Wall , Tornado , Mud Pit , Ice Crown & Almighty Thunder . Once you are granted access to them all the trophy will unlock.

  • Use an elemental krinkle explosion to kill 4 other krinkles.

As you progress in to the game you will be introduced to different elemental krinkles (Fire, Wind, Earth, Electric). When you try to use the matching corresponding spell eg Fire Wall on a fire elemental the result will be they increase in size and do more damage if they manage to reach your castle wall. Hit them again and you get the same double-sized result.

This is a handy feature when dealing with large groups of Krinkles. Once it has doubled in size you’re going to want to hit it 3 times (varies depending how far you are in the game) with a damaging spell eg Energy Bolt at a Fire Elemental. This will explode the Krinkle, taking out any krinkles in its immediate vicinity. For the trophy we need 4 or more enemies to die in the explosion. Chances are this will come naturally.

  • Unlock the Mage's Room.

For every level you earn 3 stars on you will be awarded a magical gem. These work as the game's currency, allowing you to upgrade your magical rings and castle wall health pool. To gain access to these upgrades you are required to unlock the Mage’s room. The door is magically sealed and will require 10 gems placed in it to break the seal, giving you access to the Mage’s room & unlocking the trophy.

  • Show who's the best by defending the castle!

Story related and cannot be missed, you will unlock this upon completing the opening level which acts as a short tutorial. You will learn the basic spell casting mechanics and how defend your castle. Once complete the trophy will pop.

Secret trophies

  • Complete every stage with 3 stars and get all magical gems.

Like most games of this type each level’s score is broken down in to three stars. The higher the score the more likely you’ll be awarded three stars. The best way to earn a high score is chain killing Krinkles to increase your current combo & score. The combo counter is on the left side of the screen, each number is filled with colour and gives you a small amount of time to get another kill before the colour drains and you lose the current combo multiplier.

Try and keep your kill count & combo meter high (x5) as this will be the difference when looking to get 3 stars. Getting 3 stars early in the game can be very challenging so it's best to wait, complete the game & get all the magic abilities which will give you a far better chance of meeting the score requirements.

Try not to overuse the same ability to the stage where it breaks and you are stuck without it. Use your entire arsenal of spells, Mud pit is a great way to slow them down and it does good damage once it’s been upgraded. The further in to the game you get the more health the krinkles will have so more damage is needed to put them down which is where upgrading your spells makes things more manageable.

Blowing up the elemental krinkles when they are in groups not only helps with crowd control but will give your combo meter a quick boost (Refer to Krin-KABUM! ).

Note: Remember that a flawless victory will add a bonus of 2000 points to your final level score which in some cases will be the difference for getting 3 stars.

  • Complete every stage with "Flawless Victory".

This along with The greatest mage of all time are the trophies that will consume the majority of your time with this game. Once you have finished the story you’re going to have to come back and get 3 stars on all levels coupled with a flawless victory which means nothing can get through and hit your castle walls. This can be frustrating but becomes much easier as you upgrade your magic rings.

Each flawless victory awards a bonus of 2000 points to your final score which can be the difference when trying to earn 3 stars. Work your way up from the first level upgrading your abilities as you go, this makes it much easier to maintain the enemies on screen and help you earn flawless victory. I personally found the night time levels harder as a random ability is temporarily disabled for a short period of time depending on the colour of the passing moon. Persistence is key, any you are struggling with can always be skipped and returned to later with stronger abilities.

The boss fights can also be tough to earn flawless victory on. See the boss kill trophy descriptions below for examples of flawless kill videos.

  • Imprison the King Krinkle forever!

Story related and cannot be missed, you will unlock this upon beating the third & final boss in game.

King Krinkle is the third and final boss in the game, Rather than kill him you are tasked with keeping him occupied whilst the wizard prepares a spell to imprison the King. It’s a messy fight with lots of mobs needing controlled all whilst you attempt to slow down the King. If he manages to reach your castle wall and do any damage it’s an automatic defeat.

His two main abilities are as follows:

Red Tornado: He uses this frequently and it can ruin your flawless attempt in a heartbeat so deal with it ASAP. Any krinkles caught in his tornado will get catapulted down the map towards your castle wall, sometimes straight in to it giving you no chance to react. You counter this with your own tornado which will stop his in its tracks and push any krinkles back up the map.

Shockwave: He frequently uses this ability, it’s easy to spot as it looks like you’re being attacked by a gang of moles! Counter it with your ability mud pit , otherwise it will crash in to your castle wall taking off some health and ruining any flawless attempt.

There are two ways to slow him down so that the wizards cast bar can fill up, the first lies in the piles of leaves lying around. Use your Mud Pit ability on the piles of leaves as he steps close to them (Refer to I'm the one who Knocks... Back! ). This will create spike pits which once stepped on will stagger the King, he will hop whilst holding his sore foot, this is where you must release a tornado towards him. If done right he will lose his balance and fall over buying you valuable time. The second way is to match your spells with the current gem colour on his crown which will sometimes stagger him. This seems to be a bit of a hit & miss so I tried to use the spike pits method as much as possible, only trying to stagger him via the other method when there was no leave piles on screen.

  • Defeat the Kranium Krinkle.

Story related and cannot be missed, you will unlock this upon beating the second boss in game.

Kranium Krinkle is a large skeleton type boss, He likes to spit a green ooze towards you every now & then, this is countered by putting up ice blocks with the ability Ice Crown . You can also use Fire Wall to set his minions alight just as he prepares to do his inhale ability (Refer to That’s A Spicy Meatball! ). You will hear a wind like sound just before he does this, this is when you should use Fire Wall on his minions. It’s an incredibly similar tactic to the first boss in that you are focusing on doing as much damage as possible in between crowd control.

For the flawless kill I found that the best method was to use firewall and the odd energy bolt to control his minions and unloading Tornado , Mud Pit , Fire Wall & Energy Bolt on the boss as much as I could spare. Killing him before he reaches your castle wall is essential when going for flawless.

  • Defeat the Mecha Krinkle.

Story related and cannot be missed, you will unlock this upon beating the first boss in game.

Mecha Krinkle is a large robot type boss who has 2 main abilities. First he likes to use a large dome shield which gives him temporary immunity to attack, secondly he will launch large bombs towards you which you will return back towards him using the Tornado spell (Refer to Bombs Away! ), This will stun and damage him. Focus on crowd control and do your damage whenever you get a break in the traffic.

I used the above tactic for both normal & flawless kills, You should have upgraded abilities when you go back to this boss which will be a big help. Killing him before he reaches your castle wall is essential when going for flawless.
