King Oddball is a simple, physics based game. In a nutshell, you are an angry alien king (that looks like a ball), who uses his tongue to fling rocks and destroy the world. This game is probably quite similar to a number of physics games you have likely played on your mobile device. You launch the ball by tapping the screen and try to ricochet off enemies (tanks, helicopters and troopers) or objects and destroy every enemy on screen before running out of rocks. Every Level sees you start with 3 rocks. You can earn an extra rock by destroying 3 enemies or more with one throw, and 2 rocks if you get 6 or more with one throw. You will also get an extra rock if your rock somehow bounces back and hits the king or if you can launch an enemy trooper into the king. The Trophy List is fairly straight forward, with most coming simply through normal play. There are a lot of Levels to complete but the game is strangely addictive, even though it rarely changes mechanics from the first Level on.

Overall a fun distraction, especially as a time waster on the Vita but may not be nearly as enjoyable on the PS4 or if played in extended stretches.
Step 1 - Complete the Main World Levels

When you start the game, you will be on the main World Map. This is divided into 9 grids of about 16 Levels per grid. You must complete a grid completely before moving on to the next section. Your goal will be to destroy all enemies without running out of rocks. There is typically no single best way to approach a Level. Often times, trial and error will be the way to progress. Take note of how the rock's trajectory changes based on the angle of your throw. Explosives are often a good target and generally, aiming for enemies towards the top of the screen is a good first target as the rock is likely to hit additional enemies as gravity takes it down. The difference between a multi-chain and a single take out is often only a slight variance in your launch angle.

This is made a bit more difficult by the swinging mechanic. Unlike say, Angry Birds, you cannot accurately replicate throws. This increases the challenge, but can also lead to some insane combos as the rock ricochets. Due to the unpredictability of the bounces, clear walkthrough videos would be difficult to produce or replicate. There are some videos on Youtube, but personally I only rarely found them necessary or helpful. There are no scores or extra benefits from completing the Level with extra rocks remaining, therefore just focus on getting done and moving to the next Level in this step and a number of miscellaneous Trophies will pop as you go along. You will also unlock access to the One Rock, Grenade and Diamond Levels through progression.

Step 2 - Complete the Grenade Levels

This is the first bonus section, unlocked in the 3rd grid. To complete these Levels you throw grenades instead of rocks, you will only start with 2 but have the added benefit of an explosive projectile. You will not gain additional grenades with kill multiplier chains in this mode.

Step 3 - Complete the One Rock Levels

This is the second bonus section, unlocked in the 6th grid. To complete these Levels you have only a single rock. You will gain additional grenades with kill multiplier chains in this mode, so the best strategy is to try to get a 3x+ combo with your initial throw. These are definitely trickier than the Grenade Levels, but should not take too long to master.

Step 4 - Unlock and Complete the Moustache World

After clearing the game, you will need to find 8 hidden Moustache icons, in order to unlock the Moustache World, located in the lower left corner of the World Map. Here, you will need to replay all the main Levels, presented in a mirror image format. This should not pose much problem if you were able to complete them in the Main World, and again your strategy will remain similar.

Step 5 - The Diamond Challenge

This will be the most difficult step, here you will need to replay all 131 Levels again but this time you must have 1 rock (the diamond) left over. The basic strategy will remain the same but here it will be critical that you maximize your combos, getting extra rocks as often as possible. Typically you should aim for a 3x combo with your first throw in most Levels. It is worth noting that you CAN use the diamond, and in a few Levels you will need to. In order to pass the Level, the diamond throw must either ricochet back to hit the king (can be useful if you have only one enemy left and can bank the shot to bounce back to the king) or if you can hit a 3x (or more) combo with the diamond, which will reward you with a bonus diamond even if the combo clears the board.

Step 6 - Clean up

This step may not be required, but there are a few miscellaneous Trophies that may not come naturally during playthrough. I have listed them separately so please refer to the Trophy Guide for details.

16 trophies ( 15  )

  • Complete a level using only one rock.

This is likely one of the first trophies you will get. There are a number of earlier Levels that can be completed with only one rock. This should come early without trying. If for some reason you have not already earned it, this will be guaranteed to come during the One Rock Levels.
  • Hit the King with a rock.

Another easy, early trophy. This will be earned the first time you bounce off a ball or ricochet back from an enemy and hit the king. Certainly this will be an important strategy as you progress through the harder Levels.

See Golden Five for a video Guide.
  • Hit the King with a rock three times during a level.

Similar to Head Shot! but this time you will need to hit the King 3 times in the same Level. This is a bit more challenging and will require some effort to achieve, because it is unlikely to come naturally. As the bounces off enemies are unpredictable, the best way to accomplish this is in one of the Levels with the round rebound balls. It will still take a number of attempts to reproduce the correct bounce 3 times in a row, but stick with in until the Trophy pops. It will be easiest with a ball that is close to the king.

See Golden Five for a video Guide.
  • Destroy a thousand enemies.

This will definitely come without trying, likely before completing the main World Levels. I ended with over 8,000 enemy kills, there will be no need to farm this.
  • Throw a thousand projectiles.

As with Destroyer of a Thousand, this will also be a progression based Trophy that will not need to be farmed. I was also over 8,000 throws by the time I hit 100% so 1,000 will likely come during the main World Levels.
  • Destroy four enemies with one throw.

Luck based but should be earned with little trouble early on without trying. Obviously this can only be done in a Level with 4+ enemies, but there are numerous chances during regular play. My end game stats indicate I had 193 4x combos.
  • Destroy six enemies with one throw.

Definitely trickier than Four for One but this should still come naturally. There is a Level with at a least a dozen tanks stacked on top of each other and if you haven't achieved it before then, that would be a good location. As with Four for One, this will probably come naturally - I had 13 6x combos at 100% (and 4 7x combos).
  • Complete a level with one rock and gain more than one extra rock.

This will be best done at the same time as Six Pack. The only way to gain 2 rocks is to destroy 6 or more enemies with one throw. If you can clear an entire Level with 6 (or more) enemies with your first rock, you will get this Trophy and Six Pack simultaneously. It is quite likely this will come naturally so I would not suggest worrying about farming it unless you get to the end and do not have it.

Here is an excellent video outlining an example of this strategy, credit to odytsak for this:

  • Gain five extra rocks during a level.

This one is tricky. There are a few strategies to go about it but it will likely require you to go out of your way to earn it, because there are no Levels where you can get 5 bonus rocks just by destroying enemies. The best approach is going to be to use a Level with a round rebound ball (see Headache) and get 3 rebounds back to the king. Next, get a 3 x combo to get a 4th bonus rock then do a final rebound off the round ball.

Note that you must do it in this order, as hitting the king 4 times with your rock will kill him (see Kingslayer). There are a number of Levels where you can fairly easily get 3x combos and that have a rebound ball so keep an eye for them as you go through and persist until this pops. Here is an excellent video outlining this method, credit to odytsak for this:

  • End the World.

This Trophy will pop when you complete all 131 Levels in the main World Map.
  • Kill the King.

The king will be killed if he is hit by 4 rocks in one Level. This may come naturally or you can follow the advice under Headache and repeat once more for the kill.

See Golden Five for a video Guide.
  • Complete all One Rock Levels.

The One Rock Levels are 16 bonus Levels, unlocked as you clear the 6th grid on the main World Map. These are similar to the main Levels, but you only have a single rock to start with. Success will depend on your ability to line up ricochets to either, kill multiple enemies (earning extra rocks) or rebounding back to the king to gain an extra throw. The Trophy will pop when you successfully clear all 16 Levels.
  • Complete all Grenade Levels.

The Grenade Levels are 20 bonus Levels, unlocked as you clear the 3rd grid on the main World Map. These substitute a grenade for your standard rock. You only get 2 per Level and cannot earn any bonus throws, but these will explode when they come to rest, and instantly kill nearby enemies. The Trophy will pop when you successfully clear all 20 Levels.
  • Complete the Stash!

When you finish the main World Levels and the credits roll, you will see a moustache icon in the text. Touch it to collect it (or press on the PS4 controller) and you will learn about the secret moustache world. Note: If you don't want to wait to finish the main World Levels, you can access the credits earlier by pressing Pause -> Options-> About to roll the credits at any time. To unlock it, you will then need to find and collect the 7 other moustaches. There is an excellent guide at Gamesradar.com: LINK or refer to the list below.

    Moustaches:
    • Near the top of the Credits
    • Top left of any Level failed screen
    • Top left of the Pause screen
    • Bottom left of the Options screen (accessed from the Pause Menu)
    • Top left of the Trophies screen, accessed from the icon in grid #2 of the main World Map
    • Bottom right of the Grenade Level Menu, accessed from the icon in grid #3 of the main World Map
    • Above the word statistics, accessed from the icon in grid #4 of the main World Map
    • Top left of the One Rock Level menu, accessed from the icon in grid #6 of the main World Map
  • Find and complete the Secret Moustache World!

Once you have collected all 8 moustaches, you can access the moustache world from the icon in the lower left of grid #1 of the main World Map. This area contains all 131 Levels again, presented in mirror image format. Use the same strategy as with completing the Levels initially.
  • Collect all diamonds in Hall of Diamonds.

Probably the most difficult Trophy in the game, you will need to redo all 131 Levels but this time using no more than 2 rocks. The third rock will be a diamond and you must have the diamond left on each Level after clearing all enemies. The basic strategy will remain the same but here it will be critical that you maximize your combos, getting extra rocks as often as possible. Typically you should aim for a 3x combo with your first throw in most Levels.

It is worth noting that you can use the diamond and in a few Levels you will need to. In order to pass the Level, the diamond throw must either ricochet back to hit the king (which can be useful if you have only one enemy left and can bank the shot to bounce back to the king) or if you can hit a 3x (or more) combo with the diamond; which will reward you with a bonus diamond even if the combo clears the board.

There is not much I can offer other than to say trial and error will go a long way. Many Levels will be very easy to clear but a few will be quite challenging. Often the final solution felt like an insane combo but all can be done with patience. There is a YouTube guide with every diamond Level but often the strategy was no different that what I had tried, just the bounces got a bit luckier.

This will likely be the final Trophy in your quest to 100% this game.
