Jisei: The First Case is the first installment in the Jisei trilogy series, developed and published by sakevisual, originally released only on PC. In July 2020, Ratalaika Games ported the first one to consoles and hopefully the next two will follow soon! Jisei is a Visual Novel with a murderous twist! You play as the titular character, although his name has never actually been confirmed in-game, who appears to be a young man with a unique ability; by merely touching the dead, he can personally experience their death, seeing and feeling everything the victim does. This ability comes into play when he is unexpectedly thrust into a murder mystery when a dead body is found in the coffee shop he was napping in.

Thanks to the lucky break of an off-duty cop happening to be nearby, you're now stuck in the cafe with a small group of people, and one of them is the murderer. Your own innocence isn't looking too great to the Detective, but nevertheless he allows you to explore and talk to the three other people. It's your job now to figure out who the victim was, why she was killed, and, of course, who killed her.

All in all, it is a very fun and quick Platinum, requiring no more than an hour or so, and that's without skipping anything. I wholeheartedly recommend you read through and experience the game, at least not skipping any unseen dialogue.

GLITCH WARNING: There have been reports that the game can be buggy at times, mainly by not presenting the proper choices. If that happens, I suggest shutting and restarting the game if this occurs, or reloading a previous save or starting a new game. Thanks to Tiberius for the bug report.

IMPORTANT: This game does not auto-save, so if you don't plan to do this in one sitting, make sure you manually save. You can save at any time via the menu by pressing  > Save, or by pressing  in-game.

Like most VNs, the gameplay is simply made up of reading, choosing from multiple dialogue options, and experiencing several endings. In total, Jisei has 4 Bad or Alternate Endings and 1 True Ending to achieve, all of which are required for the Platinum. However, that is it; there are no collectibles, no battles, no hidden secrets to find beyond the case at hand. All trophies are either for the Endings or for making specific dialogue choices, and usually those specific decisions have trophies for choosing both, meaning you'll need to redo those moments to pick the opposite choice later on. Despite that, the game is still quite short and if you make the saves outlined in this Guide and the Walkthrough, you'll easily nab this in no time without too much unnecessary backtracking.

STEP 0 — Play through blindly (optional).

I would encourage you to play through once blindly, to experience the story and perhaps try to figure out the culprit on your own! This is entirely optional, however, so play the game however you prefer to.

STEP ONE — Play the game while following the walkthrough to achieve Bad Ending #1.

Theoretically, you could reach the ending in question without the walkthrough if you do the two main things to reach it, but, especially for the Platinum as a whole, it will be much easier and faster to follow the walkthrough as it is specifically designed to earn all trophies in the shortest time possible. Additionally, as you play, you'll need to make multiple saves at specific points in the game. If you try to do this without saves, this platinum will take you much longer and several more playthroughs, thus the guide will assume you adhere to the following list:
  • Save 1: Make this save while speaking to Miss Bergstrom, right before you tell her "You ARE a fool!"
  • Save 2: Make this save immediately after speaking to Detective Gurski and filling him in on your findings for the first time.
Follow the walkthrough to the end where, unfortunately, you met an untimely fate. Once you've finished this step, press  > Load > Load Save #2 (See Step 2).

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

 Playing it Close
 No Patience for Fools
 Straight to the Point
 Is that a threat?
 Don't Drink the Coffee

STEP TWO — Load Save #2 and follow the walkthrough to achieve Bad Endings #2 & 3.

For this step, the walkthrough is set up so that you will earn both endings at the same time. Towards the end, when you tell the Detective who you think it is, you'll need to answer with all incorrect answers. Thus, sadly, you were unable to find the murderer, but you can still try again! Once you've finished this step, the game will ask you if you want to return to the final scene or to reload a save. Don't respond or do either, just press  > Load > Load Save #1 (See Step 3).

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Let the Police Take it From Here
 Not Proven Innocent

STEP THREE — Load Save #1 and follow the walkthrough to achieve Bad Ending #4.

This is probably going to be the longest step, but if you're following along with the walkthrough, you can keep skip on to auto-skip dialogue you've already seen from your previous attempts. Just make sure that it's set to only skip already-seen dialogue, and pay attention to the walkthrough as there are small differences.

In addition, towards the end of this run, you'll need to make one more save:
  • Save 3: Make this save after asking Miss Bergstrom who she's emailing and immediately before you talk to the Detective right after that to go over the timeline and tell him who you think is the murderer.
By the end of this step, you will have earned:

 Peacemaker
 Tactful Choice
 Helping Hand
 The Killer Got Away

STEP FOUR — Load Save #3 and catch the murderer, earning the True Ending.

Finally, you get to catch the murderer and find out who did it! Load the last save and tell the Detective who you think it is and from that point on, just read the conclusion of this story... and enjoy the surprise at the end.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

 Good Job, Detective
 Platinum Detective

Secret trophies

  • Try to reason with Miss Bergstrom.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough, this will be the first trophy you earn during your third run (Step 3; immediately after loading Save #1). You'll begin by speaking to Miss Bergstrom and choosing the opposite choice you made in No Patience for Fools. This time, choose Option 1: "If you just thought about it, you wouldn't think that." and you will get this trophy.

See the Walkthrough [LINK] for exact steps.
  • Argue with Miss Bergstrom.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough, this will be the second trophy you get and will come in your initial playthrough, not too long after beginning the game. When speaking with Miss Bergstrom, the woman who thinks you're a murderer, choose Option 2: "You ARE a fool!" and the trophy will pop.

See the Walkthrough [LINK] for exact steps.

Note: If you are following the Walkthrough, make Save #1 before you do this.
  • Withhold Info from Detective Gurski.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough, this will be the very first trophy you earn. In fact, this is your first dialogue choice of the game. After the body is discovered and the cop takes charge, you'll overhear a phone conversation he has. When he finishes, he spots you and asks how much you heard. To get this trophy, lie to him and choose Option 2: "Not really." and the trophy will pop.
  • Dead a little earlier than planned.

This trophy is for achieving Bad Ending #1, one of the game's alternate endings. If you are following the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK], this is the first ending you'll get and is the second longest of them all.

To get this trophy, as the description alludes to, you'll have to, well, die. In short, there will be a point, shortly after you'll investigate a crash, that, upon returning to the Main Area from the Hallway, Chance will automatically approach you. When you're given the choice to respond, pick Option 2: "Are you sure? It seems a little bit iffy..."

For a Video Guide and/or more information on the choices needed for this ending, see below [SPOILER WARNING]:
After you talk to Kizaki and earn Is That a Threat?, move into the Hallway, but don't do anything, just move right back to the Main Area. Chance will approach you and offer a suggestion that perhaps the murderer had arrived before she did and hid out in the bathroom. When you're given the choice to respond, pick the Option 2: "Are you sure? It seems a little bit iffy..." Jisei will make a fatal mistake by mentioning the USB. Chance then gives him a poisoned coffee, which he then drinks and dies. Curiously, though, she said she had hoped he'd find the murderer without discovering the USB information, thus essentially saying that it's not her.

    • Talk to Detective Gurski
[OPT 1] "Chance says that Kizaki was watching Sara."
[OPT 1] "I think Sara is a corporate spy..."
    [OPT 1] "Just a hunch."
    [OPT 1] End conversation.
    • Move to the Main Area
    • Talk to Kizaki
[OPT 1] "So uh...why were you following Sara around?"
[OPT 2] "You could get arrested if that detective thinks you're obstructing his investigation, you know."

     Is That a Threat? achieved!

    [OPT 1] End conversation.
    • Move to the Hallway
    • Move to the Main Area
[OPT 2] "Are you sure? It seems a little bit iffy..."
  • Try to learn about Chance's history.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough, you'll get this during your third run (Step 3; After loading Save #1). At some point in that playthrough, you'll examine the Men's Restroom twice, each time finding a clue there and then reporting to the Detective. After you tell the Detective about the second clue and move back into the Main Area, Chance will talk to you. At this point, choose Option 1: "Do you like your job here?" and you will get this trophy.

See the Walkthrough [LINK] for exact steps.
  • Ask Chance directly about her history.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough, you'll get this in your initial playthrough as you earn Bad Ending #1, not too long after beginning the game. It will be just after telling the Detective your findings for the very first time and soon after making Save #2.

When talking to Chance for third time, you'll be presented with two dialogue options to choose from. To get this trophy, choose Option 2: "So, did you really throw hot coffee at a guy for insulting your singing voice?" The trophy will pop as soon as you select it.

See the Walkthrough [LINK] for exact steps.
  • Offer to help Kizaki.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK], you'll earn this towards the end of your fourth and final run/save load (Step 4). After you speak to each of the 3 characters about Biodev Imaging and the loud crash, speak to Detective Gurski to relay your findings to him. Once you do so, return to the Main Area and talk to Kizaki. This time, you'll want to make the opposite choice that you made in Is that a threat?. Choose Option 2: "If you tell me what happened, maybe I can help you." and you'll get the trophy shortly after.
  • Try to pressure Kizaki into helping you.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK], you'll earn this towards the end of your first playthrough on the Bad End #1 route. After you tell the Detective that Kizaki was following Sara, he suggests asking Kizaki about it. Do so, and when he responds, choose the second of the two options: "You could get arrested if that detective thinks you're obstructing his investigation, you know." The trophy will pop as soon as you select it.
  • You guessed the wrong culprit.

This trophy is for achieving Bad Ending #2. To cut down on necessary backtracking, the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK] is set up to allow you to earn both this and Bad Ending #3 (Not Proven Innocent) at the same time.

At the very end of the game, when Detective Gurski is about to let everyone go, Jisei stops him and claims he knows who did it. At this point, the Detective will ask to run through the timeline and to hear your thoughts. To get this trophy, however, as the description states, you'll need to pick the wrong person out of the three people there (i.e., you cannot pick the option for someone who had already gotten away, as that is for a different trophy; see The Killer Got Away).

For a Video Guide and/or to see the choices needed for this ending, see below [SPOILER WARNING]:
—Detective Gurski: "Of the rest of the people here, who arrived at the coffee shop first?"
    [OPT 3] "It was Kizaki."
[OPT 1] "It was the victim, Sara."
[OPT 2] "It was Miss Bergstrom."
    [OPT 1] "It was Chance."

—Detective Gurski: "Alright, who came in after her?"
[OPT 3] "It was Miss Bergstrom."
[OPT 1] "It was the victim, Sara."
    [OPT 1] "It was Kizaki."

—Detective Gurski: "Alright. And after Kizaki, who came in?"
[OPT 2] "It was Miss Bergstrom."
[OPT 1] "It was the victim, Sara."
  • Solved the mystery.

This trophy is for getting the game's True Ending. To earn this, you need to solve the case and find the real murderer.

If you're following the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK], you'll earn this in your fourth and final run/save load (Step 4), immediately after The Killer Got Away by reloading the last Save (Save #3) to re-do the final few questions and reveal the true culprit.

For a Video Guide and/or to see the choices needed for this ending (continuing from The Killer Got Away), see below [SPOILER WARNING]:
—Detective Gurski: "Of the rest of the people here, who arrived at the coffee shop first?"

—Detective Gurski: "Alright, who came in after her?"
    [OPT 2] "It was Kizaki."
—Detective Gurski: "Alright. And after Kizaki, who came in?"
[OPT 1] "It was the victim, Sara."
—Detective Gurski: "How was Sara murdered?"
    [OPT 2] "She was suffocated."
—Detective Gurski: "That makes sense. But what about the knife?"
[OPT 2] "It was meant to incriminate Chance."
    ––MAKE SAVE #3 HERE––
    ––LOAD SAVE #3––
—Detective Gurski: "So who do you think the true culprit is?"
[OPT 3] "It was Miss Bergstrom."

—Detective Gurski: "Are you sure about that?"
    [OPT 1] "Yes. I'm positive!"

—Detective Gurski: "What was her motive?"
[OPT 2] "Sara stole from Auten Engineering for you, but something went wrong with the deal."
  • Can't find the killer.

This trophy is for achieving Bad Ending #4. If you're following the Walkthrough, you'll earn this in your third run (Step 3). To cut down on necessary backtracking, the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK] is set up to allow you to earn both this and the game's True Ending (Good Job, Detective) immediately after this one. To do this, you'll need to make Save #3, outlined in the Walkthrough and in the steps below.

For a Video Guide and/or to see the choices needed for this ending, see below [SPOILER WARNING]:
—Detective Gurski: "Of the rest of the people here, who arrived at the coffee shop first?"
    [OPT 2] "It was Chance."

—Detective Gurski: "That makes sense. But what about the knife?"
[OPT 2] "It was meant to incriminate Chance."

    ––MAKE SAVE #3 HERE––

—Detective Gurski: "So who do you think the true culprit is?"
[OPT 5] "It was someone else."

—Detective Gurski: "Are you sure about that?"
[OPT 1] "Yes, No doubt in my mind."

—Detective Gurski: "Well, what was his motive?"
[OPT 1] "He wanted revenge. He was from Auten Engineering and she stole from him."
  • Get arrested for murder.

This trophy is for achieving Bad Ending #3. If you're following the Walkthrough, you'll earn this in your second run. To cut down on necessary backtracking, the Platinum Walkthrough [LINK] is set up to allow you to earn both this and Bad Ending #2 (Let the Police Take it From Here) at the same time.

To get this trophy, as the description claims, you will have to be arrested for the murder. There are two important parts to achieving this ending. The first part is to avoid cooperating with the Detective, and the second part is identical to what's needed for Bad End #2.

At the very end of the game, when Detective Gurski is about to let everyone go, Jisei stops him and claims he knows who did it. At this point, the Detective will ask to run through the timeline and to hear your thoughts. To get this trophy, you'll need to give incorrect answers to the Detective's questions.

For a Video Guide and/or to see the choices needed for this ending, see below [SPOILER WARNING]:
—Detective Gurski: "Of the rest of the people here, who arrived at the coffee shop first?"
    [OPT 3] "It was Kizaki."
