Introduction

Anyone familiar with last years Ashes Cricket 2009 will feel right at home here, as it is basically the same game repackaged. Those new to this, however, will find a very easy platinum trophy behind a rather lackluster sports title. Even if you have never seen or heard of cricket before you should be able to platinum this with minimal fuss.

Definition of terms

I am aware that everyone may not be familiar with some of the terms used in cricket, so here is a quick run down of their meanings.

Wicket: Is to get a batsman out by any method (caught, bowled, leg before wicket (LBW), or run out).
Leg before wicket (LBW): A ball that bounces in line with the stumps that would go on to hit the wicket, but hits the batsman's legs.
Four: A ball that touches the ground before crossing the boundary rope or hitting the boundary board.
Six: A ball that crosses the boundary without touching the ground.
Boundary: The roped off or boarded perimeter of the playing field.
Duck: To get out or get a batsman out without scoring a run.
Golden duck: To get out or get a batsmen out with the first ball they face.
Over: A spell of six deliveries bowled by a bowler, the number of overs a single bowler can bowl are limited in 20 and 50 over matches, but unrestricted in test matches. Please note: Although an over is only six deliveries, this is increased by no balls (mis-timing the delivery of a ball) or a wide delivery (bowling the ball wide of the batting area). The over only ends when 6 legal deliveries have been made. Also, a bowler is not allowed to bowl more than one over at a time, so they must be alternated with another bowler.
Test match: A match consisting of 4 innings where the amount of overs a bowler can bowl or a batsmen can face are unrestricted. Best used for most batting and bowling trophies, the winner is the team with the most runs after either one team or both teams have been bowled out twice.
One day international (ODI): A match restricted to 50 overs and one innings per side.
20 overs match: As above but restricted to 20 overs.
Innings: The batting teams run total after all deliveries are faced or all wickets have fallen. You have 2 innings in test matches but are restricted to 1 innings in limited overs matches.

Walkthrough

Step 1: Complete the training tutorials
There are three tutorials that are designed to teach you about the game. These are relatively straight forward, just follow the instructions that you are given on-screen and you will get the Master with the Ball, Master of the Blade and Dynamite in the Field trophies.

Step 2: The Tournaments
IMPORTANT; DO NOT SIMULATE OVERS, INNINGS OR MATCHES AT ANY TIME, AS IT WILL PREVENT ANY TROPHIES FROM UNLOCKING. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This is where you will spend the bulk of your time. Select the difficulty as Easy, as this does not affect trophies, and select the tournament you require. They can be done in any order but there are a number of tricks to help shorten the amount of time spent. You should net all of the remaining trophies in this step, see the trophy guide for more information.

To speed things up, try to always bowl first as chasing a team's total is a lot quicker than having to set one of your own.

Please note that it is best to use the custom test series to gain all the relevant non-20 or 50 over batting and bowling trophies, as there are no over restrictions. A custom test series is available on the tournaments list under Custom Cup, then test series. It can be changed to 2, 3, 4 or 5 matches and winning one will net you the TEST SERIES CHAMPION trophy.

Step 3: Clean Up
Should you require it, you can set up a game at any time vs the computer to gain any trophies you might have missed.

Please note: This game has an online community but no trophies are obtainable through it; all trophies must be gained in single player only.

  • Successfully complete all of the batting lessons.

    See Dynamite in the Field.

  • Successfully complete all of the bowling lessons.

    See Dynamite in the Field.

  • Successfully complete all of the fielding lessons.

Tutorials are broken down into basic and advanced. They are not complicated, but all must be completed to unlock the tutorial trophies.

  • Score 50 runs in an innings with a single batsman in single player.

    See The Triple Ton.

  • Score 100 runs in an innings with a single batsman in single player.

    See The Triple Ton.

  • Score 200 runs in an innings with a single batsman in single player.

    See The Triple Ton.

  • Score 300 runs in an innings with a single batsman in single player.

Best done in test matches. The option to save at any time is there, so should your chosen batsman get out simply reload a save and carry on. Just make sure you save often.

  • Hit 6 fours in 6 consecutive deliveries in an innings in single player.

This one is tricky. Use lofted shots off either your back or front foot, never do advanced shots holding and and make sure you save after each four to ensure you get 6 in a row. Reload if you fail.

  • Hit 6 sixes in 6 consecutive deliveries in an innings in single player.

Easier than Power Hitting, this time use advanced shots and concentrate on good timing. You should have 6 sixes in no time, remember the save trick if you're struggling.

  • Take 3 wickets in a row from one bowler in a match in single player.

Take three wickets in three deliveries with any bowler, made very simple using frequent saves. However, I found during the course of normal play that I got many hat tricks just playing the game normally.

  • Take 5 wickets in an innings with a single bowler in single player.

See If You Want Something Done Right.

  • Take 10 wickets in an innings with a single bowler in single player.

Concentrate on one bowler only and ensure only he takes all the wickets (test matches are best as there are no bowling restrictions). When you use your other bowler make them miss the stumps and miss any catches that come your way. Save at the start of each over just in case they run themselves out.

  • Dismiss a batsman for a duck twice in a Test Match in single player.

    See King Pair.

  • Dismiss a batsman for a golden duck twice in a Test Match in single player.

Get a batsman out twice with the first delivery he faces in a test match. I found this easiest just getting the guy that opened the batting out on the first ball twice, using save reloads if I failed. This must be done twice in a match.

  • Bowl the opponent out in 10 overs or less in single player.

Bowl your opponent out in under ten overs. This is simple with the game set to easy; use save reloads if you are struggling.

  • Score 200 runs or more in an innings of a 20 Overs Match in single player.

Must be done in one innings as you do not bat twice in a 20 over match. To get this, you must bat first as the computer will rarely score over 200 runs for you to chase, so if you lose the toss and are put in to bowl, restart the match.

Use regular saves to ensure you reach 200 before being bowled out.

  • Score 300 runs or more in an innings of an ODI Match in single player.

Must be done in one innings as you do not bat twice in a ODI match. To get this, you must bat first as the computer will rarely score over 300 runs for you to chase, so if you lose the toss and are put in to bowl, restart the match.

Use regular saves to ensure you reach 300 before being bowled out.

  • Score 600 runs or more in an innings of a Test Match in single player.

Unlike 20 Overs Domination and ODI Domination, it doesn't matter when you bat as you bat twice in a test match. Just ensure you score 600 runs before you are bowled out.

Again, use regular saves so if you get out you don't replay too much.

  • Win a Test Match by 10 wickets in single player.

To do this, you must ensure that you're batting last in a test match and that you don't have a batsman out before you reach your required total.

Example: Computer bats first scoring 80 all out. You follow, I recommend getting around 80 to 100. Computer bats third, you must ensure they surpass your score in total (they score 40, for a new total of 120), leaving you around 20-40 to get without losing a wicket.

  • Win a Test Match by an innings or more in single player.

Similar to 10 Wicket Defeat, except when the computer bats third, make sure they do not surpass your total, meaning you don't have to bat again.

  • Win a full-length Champions Cup in single player.

Select Champions Cup from Tournaments, select Easy and change the overs to 5 as this does not affect the trophy unlocking. Blast your way through.

  • Win a full-length World 20 Overs in single player.

Go into Tournaments, select Easy difficulty, select World Twenty Overs and blast through the tournament. A big tip is to save just before each match. Also, ensure you are bowling first as it is quicker bowling them out and chasing their total than setting a total yourself.

  • Win a full-length 20 Overs Super League in single player.

This grinding trophy consists of 14 league matches, then a semi-final and final. For league matches, you only have to finish in the top four, so to help speed things up at certain points you can throw your match away. Select yourself to bat and just throw all your wickets away, then simply give your opponents all the runs they need from poor deliveries or no balls. The match will be over in no time, just ensure you win enough to finish in the top 4.

  • Win a full-length World Trophy in single player.

Select World Trophy from Tournaments, select Easy and change the overs to 5 as this does not affect the trophy unlocking. Blast your way through.

  • Win a custom Test Series in single player.

Go into Tournaments and select Custom Cup, select Test Series and change number of matches to 2. Win both matches and the trophy is yours.
