ICEY is an interesting story driven side scrolling hack and slash game. There is a heavy reliance on narrative, with a lot of tongue in cheek humor and regular breaking of the fourth wall.

Combat is fluid, with a number of combos to learn, although enemy variety and overall difficulty is low enough that if you are playing on easy, you can more or less mash and get through the game. Still, it does make the game more enjoyable if you master a few of the combat techniques.

Upgrades are obtained via cash, and while defeating enemies does reward some, finding the hidden areas with treasure chests is definitely the way to go. Areas are relatively small, and it would be hard to get lost, so feel free to explore.

Trophy-wise, this is a pretty short and easy platinum. Going in it will seem confusing at first, as the layout is a bit odd. There is no traditional menu or level select, but rather the game environment is laid out as if you were in a computer program. As such, you can reload sections of the game to get any optional trophies (most of which are for triggering 'endings', which will kick you to the boot menu so to speak).

I would recommend referring to the excellent text walkthrough by YoKa_sun. I can confirm this works for both the NA and Asian region stacks. For the purpose of this guide, I have prepared videos which will guide you through the steps for each trophy, but will assume you are either exploring the environment yourself, or referring to his guide to navigate. Again, it is very well written.

A final note on the stacking lists. At present, this game is only available in the NA and Asian regions. There is no EU release, and it is not known if that will have a separate list if/when it gets released there. For ease, I would recommend the HK store for the Asian stack (Link)

Step 1 - Complete the Tutorial, Set the Difficulty and Start the Game

When you first start the game it will take you right into combat. There will be a short section that teaches you basic moves and combat, and will end with a very easy boss battle (and your first trophy).

You will then reach a strange screen where your game 'crashes' (press any button to get past the warning menus) and you will restart in a series of computer rooms.

This is important, as this section ends with a computer monitor which asks you a series of questions. Your answers determine the difficulty setting for the game. Make sure you choose the option each time (there should be 4 entries), and the game should tell you that you will be progressing on Easy.

While it is not trophy related, please refer to this video to make sure you have this correct, as there is no way to change the difficulty later.

Step 2 - Complete the game

Once you have cleared the tutorial you can start the game in earnest. Again, I would refer the user to the excellent text walkthrough by YoKa_sun. Many of the trophies do require a bit of out the way thinking or exploring, with the rest all being progress related.

Overall the sections are pretty small, so you aren't going to get lost, and you can drop out to the Icey.bin menu at any point to reload previously unlocked sections. Accordingly, nothing is missable.

For ease, I have formatted the forum trophy guide in the order that you can unlock the trophies if following the text, and added videos for each of the sections.

Step 3 - Post Game Clean Up and Alternate Ending

Assuming you have followed the guide, you should only have the alternate ending left. You should see a new green section from the Icey.bin menu, and can simply select this for a mostly non-interactive section and the last trophy.

If you don't have the green selection available, it should appear once you have cleaned up the other trophies, as those are mostly tied to optional endings in the game.

34 trophies ( 16  14  )

  • Earn all trophies

Unlocks once all other trophies have been earned

  • Do not wake up ICEY

Immediately after Follow The Leader, a cutscene will start. This will culminate in the Narrator telling you to press to wake Icey up. Don't press - just idle and eventually the cutscene will end, awarding the trophy and restarting on a loop, as shown in this video.

  • Do not activate the photon bridge and jump 3 times into the ravine

Once you start the actual game, you will be back in the same environment as in the tutorial. Progress through until you reach an area where you are told to activate a bridge to progress. Do not activate it; instead, walk off the edge repeatedly. Eventually the Narrator will get annoyed, and create a new area for you to drop down into, and this trophy will pop.

See Restart, Restart for a video.

  • Keep trying to go left in the "extra area"

Immediately after Pitfalls, you will drop into a ravine and the Narrator gives you a treasure chest as a 'reward' for not obeying. Destroy this, and you will be prompted to proceed to the right - don't. Instead, go back to the left to get into a bonus area which leads to a dead end. Idle here for the trophy and the first optional ending in the game, as shown in this video.

  • Jump into sewage 3 times

After restarting in the Lost Woods from earning the trophies above, progress to the bridge and activate it to get across and trigger a short combat section. Immediately thereafter you will be presented with some simple toxic swamps to navigate across. Instead, drop into the sewage 3 times to trigger the trophy as shown in this video.

  • Learn the name of God

This trophy is quite difficult to explain, so I would direct you to the video below. Once you defeat Ideon you will be at the Clock Tower 2F entrance. You are supposed to proceed right and up the tower. Instead, go back to the left. This will not take you back to the boss room, but rather will take you through a jumbled up collection of rooms you have previously visited. I am not sure if there are multiple paths, but your goal is to get back to the Clock Tower Entrance. When you try to go in, it will actually take you to a secret room.

Let the scene play out to unlock the trophy and another optional ending.

  • Finish the story in the "Totally Empty Room"

This trophy, and the 3 related ones, can all be earned in the Sewer section. After completing the Lost Woods, you will drop into the Sewer and have to progress to the right. This ends in a room where you will earn an unlimited dash power up that will allow you to dash vertically. You will also be shown a map of your current location, from which you are intended to backtrack to the left, then go up and face your first boss battle on the top right.

You will notice a trophy icon in the upper left section - that is where we actually need to go. Once in the large room, dash with up and to the left, proceed against the Narrator's directions, until you end up in a dead end room.

You will need to idle here for about 5 minutes as the Narrator gets progressively more irritated and goes on a rant about trophy hunters. Ironically, he then awards you a bunch of trophies (you will need to attack them as they appear to trigger the next trophy).

Refer to this video as a guide.

  • Wait for a few minutes in the "Totally Empty Room"

    See Trophy Addict.

  • Earn a bronze trophy in the "Totally Empty Room"

    See Trophy Addict.

  • Earn a silver trophy in the "Totally Empty Room"

    See Trophy Addict.

  • Witness secrets of development in the "Archive Room"

After Gate Crasher, restart in the Ultimopolis section, but this time follow the Narrator's direction at the branch point. At the next screen, there is again a branch point. You want to press again here, which will take you into a warehouse. Once inside, dash up to the second floor, and go into the wooden crate on the left. This will take you to an incomplete room. Idle here, and the Narrator will eventually spawn the Archive Room. A lengthy dialogue scene follows, ultimately leading to another alternate ending and this trophy.

    Video Guide

  • Ignore the narrator and enter Emberville before the gate closes

After defeating Gorger, you will move to a new section - Ultimopolis. Progressing to the right and dealing with some simple combat sections, you will arrive in a town and be told by the Narrator to go into the screen at a fork point - don't. Instead, keep going to the right. Past a few more battles you will reach a bridge with a gate that closes. When you reach this screen, quickly dash through the gates by repeatedly pressing . Once you get on the other side, you will earn the trophy.

Note that you will need to reload your game to continue, but before you do, head right a few more screens to trigger a save point and a new section - Metro Entrance.

    Video Guide

  • And in the dark of night, the unfathomable Black Star rises

After defeating Judas there will be a brief cutscene and then the credits will roll. Let them finish, and you will come to another ending scene, and this trophy will pop.

The video below shows both the Judas battle and this ending.

  • Select "Not Ready" before the final battle

After defeating Trinity you will be at the Room of Fate. Before the final battle, you will be asked to enter to indicate you are ready. For this trophy, you want to enter instead. You will need to do this 3 times, getting the Narrator more irritated each time, until he changes the options so that both entries are ready.

At this point you need to do nothing. Just idle. There will be a lot of dialogue and a long sequence that follows until eventually you will get to another optional ending and unlock the trophy.

    Video Guide

  • SHIO

    Enter level "Shio"

After the Parker Spider Boss, you will be teleported to a new section - Metro Transfer. Shortly after you will end up in a sewer tunnel and will be directed to go right. Watch for a grate on the ground that you can teleport through (see video below). After failing 3 times, the Narrator will let you go down. You can then drop into 'toxic' water, and will end up in a Storage Room after another lecture from the annoyed Narrator.

After a couple of game previews, you will be placed in a presumably unbeatable mini-game called Shio. The trophy will pop once the mini-game starts, and eventually you will be taken back to the Icey.bin menu.

    Video Guide

  • Earn sponsorship for the game

From the optional ending in "Outside" Fire, restart the Marionette Theatre. Head to the same room with the 3 doors, but enter the third one (far right). As soon as you enter the room you will get a phone call from finance. Accept this with and watch a long section play out until you reach another optional ending.

    Video Guide

  • Discover the truth of ICEY's birth

After defeating Thor you will need to backtrack to the Metro Entrance (you can either backtrack through the Ultimopolis section, or if you did Gate Crasher and progressed to the auto save point as recommended, then you can drop out to the Icey.bin menu after the Thor battle, and select the Metro Entrance spawn point).

Once in the Metro, you will drop into the tunnels and have another power up chest - this allows you to dash through barriers. From here, ignore the prompt to go left, instead going right and through the barrier.

Drop down and continue right on the next screen, then take care of a combat section. After the combat, go up and right through another barrier, and clear some more enemies. From there, go directly up and exit to the left. On the new screen, go up at the first opening, then right to reach this secret area. After a couple more combat sections, a dialogue will ensue, leading to a cutscene and another alternate ending.

This video will take you from the power up chest to the secret area room.

  • Destroy the background music player

From the optional ending in CEO and Miss Perfect, restart the Marionette Theatre again, and head to the same room with the 3 doors. Go back in the third one (far right) but decline the phone call from finance (). Continue to the right and into the next room. Now go to the far right wall, and attack the object there.

This starts a music player. Continue to attack the player until you end up on a news station (you can continue to attack, but it won't change the channel any further). Let the scene play out until the end, and once you regain control of ICEY, attack the player until you destroy it and earn the trophy.

    Video Guide

  • Confront the Yellow King in the monitor room

Immediately after defeating Jack you will be teleported to a new area. Proceed right until the screen starts to blur. You should see a cloaked character dressed in yellow. He won't attack you, but you can strike him.

Do so 3 times to pop this trophy.

See Jack's Faith for the video of this, as it is immediately after the boss battle ends.

  • Encourage the narrator to meet the tip of a bullet

After defeating Carlos, you will get on a subway car and get dropped off at the Ultimopolis Metro Entrance. Immediately to the right is a branch point, which you are supposed to enter to get to the next area (Clock Tower). Bypass this for now, and go all the way to the right to reach an optional area, the Marionette Theater (after a couple of combat sequences).

Once inside, dash up to the balcony above the downed chandelier, and go through the door on the left. Continue left to the theater seating area, then go up a couple of levels through broken floors. Once on the top level, go through the door on the right, then up and through the exit on the right. (video below shows this route).

You will then find yourself in a room with 3 open doors. Although there is no prompt, you can enter these doors by standing at the opening and pressing

Go to the first door (far left) and enter. Once inside, go left through the first room and proceed left in the second until you receive a phone call - it's the Narrator's wife. Tell him to decline the phone call (), and see how well that decision works out for him by going into the next room....oops

    Video Guide

  • Do not kill Dahal's self which lives within Trinity

After God's 9 Billion Names, reload Clock Tower 2F and proceed up to the top. There will be a number of battles along the way, but the path forward is linear and you will eventually reach the room at the top. Once you enter you will face Trinity, and be instructed to kill her - don't, instead stand there and defy the Narrator. Eventually he will get frustrated and let you pass to reach Dahal in the next room - who now won't attack you. The trophy should pop at this point.

(Note that you can continue, but for the purposes of the platinum you will need to reload the entire section as you'll need to defeat Trinity and Dahal for their respective trophies).

    Video Guide

  • Break open Pandora's box

Earning The Abyss Watches Back will spawn another optional ending. From the Icey.bin menu, select Crossroads to spawn outside the Marionette Theater. This time you want to enter the branch point which will take you to the Clock Tower.

Progress through the first floor until you are outside again, and from there enter the 2F floor. Once in the 2F lobby, you will be prompted to go up - don't. Instead, continue to the right and stand in the elevator as shown in the video below.

Stay there for a minute or so and the Narrator will again get irritated. Move to the elevator door, and there should now be a prompt. Press it and you will be transported to the Taboo Room. There will be a treasure chest that will grant you a super power - smashing it will unlock the trophy, and you can then press to see what happens in this optional ending.

    Video Guide

  • Witness the birth of ICEY's self-awareness

After defeating Judas and earning all the other optional endings, you should find a new section appear in the Icey.bin menu. This section, in green, is titled "Master's Name". Load it, and you will be prompted to enter a password.

Type in HASTUR, and you will be taken to a new room. There is a trivial battle here, during which the controls and room will invert, but you are facing only low level enemies. Eventually you will lose the ability to control ICEY. Let the scene play out for the final ending and corresponding trophy, and the platinum if you followed the guide.

    Video Guide

  • Enter the real "game" with the narrator

Once you have completed the tutorial and gone through the 'crash' section, setting the difficulty, you will be punted out to the launch screen again. You will need to press ( in the HK version) several times to start the game, and once you do, the trophy will pop.

  • Defeat Trinity Trinity could not stop this cycle, nor can she ever stop the wheel of reincarnation from spinning.

This will be your first trophy, and the first boss battle in the game. When you start the game you are dropped into a short tutorial section which ends with this very easy battle.

As with all bosses, there will be 2 health bars to wear down. Basic attacks work quite well here, but you will want to start learning how to use to dodge.

Please refer to this video for an overview of the fight.

  • Defeat Gorger Gorger was a simple resident of Ultimopolis that sacrificed himself to Judas without regret... or any other feelings.

After the trophy room debacle, you will need to reload the Sewer section. This time proceed up from the large open room, and go to the right to face your first boss fight.

Gorger is pretty easy, although he does have a quick spin blade attack that can do some damage. Ground attacks work best, a simple combo with , then dash with . You can use the small enemies that spawn to refill health, and remember to hold when you kill them for your area attack using their ambient energy remains.

This boss shouldn't give you any real trouble, but feel free to refer to the video below for an overview.

  • Defeat Thor Thor understood Judas' ultimate goal, and paid the ultimate price of splitting his self to serve Judas.

After Buy Another Copy!, restart the Ultimopolis section for a third time. This time take the first branch point, but bypass the second one at the warehouse. Continue to the right until you reach a house, which upon entering will lead to your second boss fight, this time against Thor.

Overall, this is another pretty easy boss fight, but this time you want to stick to the air as much as possible. He has a couple of area of effect attacks which you can mostly avoid with aerial attacks. Again, use to get behind him when possible.

This boss shouldn't give you any real trouble, but feel free to refer to the video below for an overview.

  • Defeat Parker Parker, betrayed by Judas, retreated with no conscience to the dark corners of the metro.

After ICEY, UCEY, restart the Metro section, but this time follow the directions and go left from where the power up was after dropping into the tunnels. On the next screen you will face your third boss, Parker Parker (a spider mech....).

This is a pretty fun and easy fight. He will spawn a lot of small spider minions, which will replenish your health, but really doesn't have much offense. I used primarily ground combos, but upper cut attacks ( + ) also work very well to launch the minion spiders. They go down easily with an aerial combo, which you can then finish with a downward slash ( + ) do get back to the boss, as shown in the video below.

  • Defeat Carlos Carlos was fed up with the constant sacrifice of his self in each reincarnation. His solution? Kill and replace the Chosen One.

After the Shio fiasco, restart Metro Transfer and follow the recommended route (which is quite linear) until you reach some abandoned subway cars, leading to the fourth boss, Carlos. He is a bit of a combination of Parker and Gorger. Really simple strategy is basic ground combo followed by dash. Just keep getting behind him and pound away as shown in the video below.

By this point in the game, if you have been exploring a bit, you should have cash for upgrades. You won't be able to fully upgrade ICEY, so decide on your preferred combos. I upgraded the basic attack, and maxed out health and shield.

  • Defeat Jack While Jack's faith is unwavering, being banished to the furthest corner of the world left him unable to even come close to the Chosen One.

From the main floor of the Marionette Theater, go right from the downed chandelier to reach the fifth boss, Jack. This fight is a bit harder, as Jack moves quickly and is harder to hit. Ground attacks are really your only option as he can't be launched, doesn't spend much time in the air, and is too small to hit with aerial attacks.

On easy he still shouldn't pose much of a problem, but he can trap you and take off quite a bit of health (as you can see in the video - not a great run)

  • Defeat Ideon Ideon's self was slowly destroyed through the process of never-ending reincarnation, leaving him even more vulnerable to Judas' manipulation.

Ideon is the sixth boss, located at the top of the Clock Tower. The first time playing the game he gave me quite a bit of trouble. On my stack playthrough, I focused more on upgrades. By this point my recommendation would be to have health and shield either at or close to max, and dump points into upgrading the aerial and ground square combos. Having up and down slash upgraded also helps.

The best strategy for this boss is to keep it in the air. Stay around his head, and be aggressive. Launch yourself with an uppercut, then mash an aerial combo. His lasers are deadly, so you need to avoid these ( dash up when he activates, as the top of the screen is safe) as it is a 3-4 hit attack each time, and it can catch you in a nasty loop. I got caught in this a few times near the end of the fight, but otherwise had a pretty clean run.

  • Defeat Dahal Only in a virtual world is such a thing possible... To mix two beings' memories... Because of this, Dahal short-circuited.

    See Trinity's Self.

  • Defeat Trinity Even after her memories were mixed with another's, Trinity still tried to prevent the birth of the Chosen One. That was, of course, futile.

After getting True Love, back out to Icey.bin and reload Clock Tower 2F. Unfortunately you will need to replay the entire 2F section of battles to make it back to the room with Trinity.

This time kill her (she won't attack, so it is a simple button press) to earn Dahal's Pain, then progress into the next room to fight Trinity in her battle form.

This isn't a particularly hard battle, especially if you have been upgrading. I would say this is an easier fight than Ideon, although like Jack, Trinity does move around a lot, so short, quick strikes are your best strategy. Dash will also be key, and look for opportunities to counter. You can see my run in the video below.

  • Defeat Judas Judas had long ago given up his struggle. As he ascended the Clock Tower, the Black Star rose once more.

After People Are Pigs, reload the Room of Fate and this time indicate you are ready for the final battle.

Judas is tough, and first time through this may take a few attempts. Unlike the previous boss battles, Judas has 4 health bars to take down. There are a few minions that spawn, but they are the annoying fist enemies, so they aren't easy health. Best strategy is to try to avoid them, and like Ideon, try to keep this an aerial battle.

I had max health and shield going into the battle, and had an upgrade on the 4x aerial combo. As you can see in the video, the battle ended very quickly - see Black Star Rises.
