Introduction:

Coming from the same shelf of simulators such as House Flipper, House Builder takes you through a variety of locations and teaches you how to build houses that are local to those areas. From a mud brick hut to a modernly chic house, you'll learn about setting a foundation, putting up walls, and finishing a sturdy roof. The game itself is pretty straightforward and can be quite relaxing, but it does have a few issues that should be mentioned before you jump into this game.

The Game is Glitched: An unfortunate fact, but not one that will keep you from your Platinum. You can play all buildings up to the Modern House, which also happens to be the house you'll get your final trophies in. After placing the prefab walls with the crane, you'll need to layer the floor with foam blocks. Immediately after, you will glitch and get stuck inside the floor, preventing you from being able to do anything. The game will freeze, but won't crash, and there's no way to continue forward with the house. You'll need to close the game from the XMB menu and you will not be able to progress past this point, meaning you can't actually finish the game.

You Can't Get Rid of the Tips/Hints: A weird complaint to have, but there is an option in the settings to turn off in-game hints, but this only removes the currently visible hint. As soon as that hint disappears, the game will ignore your request to turn off hints and continue to barrage you with them. The box for them is a bit of an eye sore, but there's not really anything you can do about it.

Speaking of tips, though, there are a few the game seemingly leaves out which can help you progress through your game a little easier.

Picking Up Treasure: Randomly scattered in each level (mostly the actual townhouses you dig trenches for), are little treasures and trinkets. Picking this up will make you easy money, which you can then use in the supply shop or to open up new levels once they become available.

Purchasing Supplies: When you need to start purchasing supplies from the shop, look on the right side of the screen for what you need. There will be an image of the product as well as a "x##" to let you know how many you need. The product labels in this game are a bit subpar so just match the icons and use those numbers to make sure you don't buy too many supplies for the job at hand. If you do buy too many, throw the excess away in the green trash bin (it says SALE/SELL on the inside) to make some of your money back. The blue garbage bin will simply delete the items and give you no money.

Igloo and Trapper's Cabin: The Igloo is the first house you'll build and will need to dig ice blocks out of ice deposits. There are a limited number of deposits available and if you don't upgrade your Igloo perks when they become available, there's a chance you'll run out of ice, so make sure you're being adamant about activating them as soon as possible. For Trapper's Cabin, you don't actually need the handsaw to complete the Cabin, but you do need to use it for 3 of the plank-related upgrades. Make sure you cut at least 30 planks with the handsaw at any point while building the Cabin to make sure you don't miss those and have to replay the level.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game

That's really it. Be sure to read above about the Igloo and Trapper's Cabin, but outside of those, all of the other upgrades are pretty much story-related, you just need to activate them once they become available. When an upgrade does becaume available, a blue box will appear in the middle of your screen that is near impossible to miss. When it does, hit r1.png to open your skill tree, then activate the upgrade (they don't cost anything). Progress towards the upgrades is only counted during an actual build process, not in the "freeplay" mode available by revisiting previously completed houses. The Trapper's Cabin is the only one that this really affects (again, see above) so you don't have to really worry about replaying anything. If you hit a snag anywhere prior to the game-breaking Modern House where you can't progress or move forward with the building process, exit back to the main menu and reload the house. This will reset the most recent task you had and should fix the problem. Everything else is just you and your handyman skills.

After this step, you will earn the following in roughly the order listed below (giving of course you are activating everything as you go):

55 trophies ( 44  )

  • Unlock all trophies

Earn all of the other trophies in the game to unlock the Platinum.
  • Build 6x Foundation Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 30x Foundation Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Walk 1000 metres and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available automatically as you progress through the game (it'll be within the first 3 levels). Simply unlock it in the tree once it becomes available to unlock the trophy. This upgrade will allow you to carry more weight so be sure to claim it as soon as you can.
  • Walk 3000 metres and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available automatically as you progress through the game (it'll be within the first 3 levels). Simply unlock it in the tree once it does become available to unlock this trophy.
  • Build 45x Formwork Plank and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the Modern House. Activating this upgrade will allow you to place Formwork Plants continuously by holding r2.png, so not only do you want to make sure to activate the upgrade for the trophy, but also to help you build faster.
  • Build 8x Prefabricated Wall and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the Modern House. When you're using the crane to place the prefabs, you'll only be able to pick up one piece to start. This upgrade will allow you to pick up 5 prefabs at once, but this part of the building much quicker. You'll want to activate the upgrade as soon as it appears for this reason but also to make sure you get the trophy.
  • Build 22x Prefabricated Wall and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the Modern House. After you unlock Multiple Hook Crane trophy_bronze.png, you'll shortly after be able to get this upgrade. The Crane Magnet helps lock the prefab pieces into place a lot easier compared to you trying to eyeball it yourself. If you haven't missed any trophies up to this point (mostly the handsaw-related trophies in the Trapper's Cabin), this will be the final trophy you earn (after activating the upgrade) before the Platinum unlocks.
  • Walk 2000 metres and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you progress through the game (it'll be within the 1st three levels). Just be sure to actually unlock it once it does to unlock the trophy. It's highly recommended you do it as soon as you can since the upgrade increases your carrying weight by a substantial amount, allowing you to carry far more supplies which will come in handy throughout the game.
  • Build 10x Aerated Concrete Block and 20x Conrete Lintel and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the European House. This upgrade reduces the cost of materials you need to purchase from the shop (and have delivered), so it's definitely recommended you activate this upgrade as soon as it becomes available, not only for the upgrade, but also for the trophy.
  • Build 100x Roof Tile and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the European House. Unlocking it allows you to place the roof tiles down continuously by holding r2.png, so you not only want to activate it for the trophy but also to make the roofing job go by much quicker.
  • Walk 200 metres and unlock it in skill tree

  • Walk 1400 metres and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy includes both just general walking and sprinting. To sprint, you need to hold l3.png. Both this trophy and Sprinter Beginner trophy_bronze.png will come naturally as you progress through the game since you'll be doing a lot of walking around.
  • Build 10x Reinforcement Block and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will automatically become available as you build the European House. When you unlock it in the tree, you'll be able to place the stack reinforcement blocks consecutively by holding down r2.png, making the process of doing so much quicker. For that reason, you want to make sure you unlock it as soon as it becomes available.
  • Build 4x Mud Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 25x Mud Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 100x Mud Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 4x Ice Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 35x Ice Block and unlock it in skill tree

    See Master Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png.
  • Build 75x Ice Block and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy (along with Beginning Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png and Expert Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png) will unlock automatically as you build in the Igloo House so long as you are actively upgrading your skills. Just remember that the skill upgrades from actually placing the ice blocks, not cutting them. When you unlock Beginning Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png, you will be able cut 2 ice blocks at a time, Expert Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png will allow you to cut 6 ice blocks at a time, and Master Igloo Builder trophy_bronze.png will allow you to cut 15 ice blocks at a time. After you're able to make 15, you can start carrying more than 15 by simply re-equipping your knife after picking up the ice blocks, then using dpad_left.png to select them again when you're ready to build. There aren't enought ice deposits to complete the Igloo without getting these upgrades, so to ensure you don't fail the level or miss the trophies, you really want to be on top of your upgrades (you need to cut far more than 75 ice blocks to finish the Igloo so these are necessary).

Please note that the Ice Blocks must be cut while you are actively building the Igloo. If you visit the level after it's done and try grinding out Ice Blocks then, they won't count. There are also at least 3 ice deposits where your controller sensitivity goes haywire, making the knife hard to control. You will need to cut through at least 2 of these, depending on when you did your upgrades. Just move your knife as slow as you can and try your best to avoid hitting the rocks. These deposits are the only difficult part about building the Igloo House.
  • Build 10x Roof Tile from Mud and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 38x Roof Tile from Mud and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 75x Roof Tile from Mud and unlock it in skill tree

You'll get this as you build the Mud House. To make the Roof Tiles, it'll be similar to the Mud Blocks, just with an additional step. You'll need to use clay balls and fill the roofing mold (the mold sitting on the rock) and then cook them in the furnace (it's just behind the roofing mold). Place the logs next to the furnace inside the bottom hole of the furnace, then place the roof tiles in the top. Turn it on to cook them, and then take them out when they're done. You'll earn Beginning Mud Hut Roofer trophy_bronze.png and Expert Mud Hut Roofing trophy_bronze.png as you go for this trophy, so don't worry about missing those. Each roofing tile will net you 4 tiles once cooked to start with. When you unlock Beginner, you'll be able to create 2 roofing tiles at one time in the mold and they'll net 6 each out of the furnace (so 24 per batch), Expert will allow you to create 3 tiles at once from the mold and they'll net 18 each out of the furnace (so 72 per batch), and Master will allow you to create 4 tiles at once from the mold and they'll net 54 each out of the furnace (so 216 per batch). You'll need more than 75 tiles for this roof so as long as you activate the upgrade once it becomes available, this trophy will unlock easily.

Note that the upgrades are for placing the roofing tiles down, not just crafting them.
  • You have to screw 7 screws and unlock it in skill tree

  • You have to screw 25 screws and unlock it in skill tree

  • You have to screw 45 screws and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade as well as The Screwdriver Master trophy_bronze.png and Screwgun trophy_bronze.png will become available naturally as you build the Canadian House. The Screwdriver Master upgrade will allow you to manually screw in screws faster, the Screwgun upgrade will unlock the Screwgun in your inventory (though there's already one available on the tool table), and this trophy will increase the speed of your Screwgun (you won't actually carry multiple screwguns at once). The screws are arguably the worst part of building this house so anything you can do to make your life easier while working on it is always welcome. Even if you don't want to use the screwgun and just want to stick to the manual screwdriver, just be sure to activate them anyways so you get the trophies.
  • Cut 10 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 20 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 30 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available as you build the Trapper's Cabin. To cut planks, you need to chop down trees, then place the logs on the sawmill. At the start, the sawmill will only net 4 planks. Plank Cutter Beginner trophy_bronze.png will up the output to 8 planks, Plank Cutter Expert trophy_bronze.png will increase them to 12, and finally this trophy will get you 16 planks per log. You'll be needing far more than 30 planks to complete the Cabin, so just make sure you activate the upgrades as soon as they become available so you can get your trophies.
  • Cut 48 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 70 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade and Log Spliter Expert trophy_bronze.png will automatically become available as you progress through the Trapper's Cabin. Just be sure to unlock them as soon as they do so you not only get your trophies, but get actually beneficial upgrades for this House. At the start of the build, when you chop down a tree, you only get one log to use. When you unlock Expert, you'll get 2. When you unlock Master, you'll get 3, making your log output much higher and your build process go much quicker.
  • Cut 30 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will automatically become available as you work on building the Trapper's Cabin. Just make sure you actually unlock in the tree once it does to get your trophy. Unlike about 99% of the other upgrades in the game, this and Laser Measure Tape trophy_bronze.png will be the ones you use less often, especially on Trapper's Cabin, since the game will automatically cut the logs into the correct size when you place them, preventing you from having to actually cut anything.
  • Cut 6 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 15 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 40 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available automatically as you progress through building the Trapper's Cabin and in turn, so will Fast Plank Cutter trophy_bronze.png and Faster Plank Cutter trophy_bronze.png. After you place the Logs for the structure of the cabin, you'll need to use the machine just next to it to cut the logs into planks. The Fast upgrade will increase the speed of the machine by 30%, the Faster upgrade will increase the speed of the machine by 50%, and the Fastest upgrade will increase the speed of the machine by 100%. This will, of course, will come in handy as you work on this House so be sure to unlock the upgrades as soon as they become available so your job is easier and of course so you get your trophies.
  • Build 120x Roof Tile from Mud and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available as you progress towards Mud Bricking Epic Master trophy_silver.png. Be sure to activate as soon as it becomes available since it allows you to place the Mud Tiles down automatically by simply holding r2.png. You'll need to place more than 120 Roof Tiles down to finish the Mud House, so you just need to activate the upgrade once it becomes available to get the trophy.
  • Build 250x Mud Block and unlock it in skill tree

You will earn this as you build the Mud House. After building the shell with Jungle Logs, you'll need to make Mud Blocks to build up the walls. To create them, you need to fill the basket (on the ground) with clay/dirt, then use the bowl to add water to it. Interact with the mixture to create mud balls, then place the mud balls in the rectangle mode just next to the basket. As with the other trophies, you want to make sure you're upgrading as you go so you get the highest output of supplies. Along the way, you'll unlock Mud Bricking Beginner trophy_bronze.png, Mud Bricking Expert trophy_bronze.png, and Mud Bricking Master trophy_bronze.png. With each of these, you'll create more Mud Blocks in one go. Beginner will allow you to create 2 Mud Blocks at once, Expert will allow you to create 8 at a time, Master will allow you to create 16 at a time (and will also allow you to just hold r2.png to place the bricks down), and Epic Master will allow you to create 48 at a time. You'll need to build well over 250 Mud Blocks for the walls on this House so as long as you activate the upgrade once it unlocks, you 'll get this trophy.

Note that these upgrades are for placing the Mud Bricks, not just creating them.
  • Cut 10 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 30 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy is available to earn as you build the Trapper Cabin, but it's not guaranteed, unlike most of the other trophies associated with this building. You'll need to use the handsaw (it's located on the tool table with the measuring tape) to cut the planks that are made from the sawmill. Because you don't technically have to cut the planks yourself to finish the Cabin, this one (along with Faster Plank Sawing trophy_bronze.png and Saw Wood Cutter Expert trophy_bronze.png) are pretty easy to miss. If you don't get these during your initial build of the Trapper Cabin, you'll need to sell the cabin you built and restart the "level". The planks must be cut during the building process of the Cabin, not in the freeplay mode that happens when you revisit an area. At the start, when you cut a plank, you'll simply just cut it into two planks. The Expert upgrade will give you four planks and the Master upgrade will give you four planks. As soon as these upgrades become available, unlock them in your upgrade tree to get these trophies.
  • Cut 36 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will automatically become available as you work on building the Trapper's Cabin. Just make sure you actually unlock in the tree once it does to get your trophy. Unlike about 99% of the other upgrades in the game, this and Automatic Log Measurement trophy_bronze.png will be the ones you use less often, especially on Trapper's Cabin, since the game will automatically cut the logs into the correct size when you place them, preventing you from having to actaully cut anything.
  • Cut 2 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy is available to earn as you build the Trapper Cabin, but it's not guaranteed, unlike most of the other trophies associated with this building. You'll need to use the handsaw (it's located on the tool table with the measuring tape) to cut the planks that are made from the sawmill. Because you don't technically have to cut the planks yourself to finish the Cabin, this one (along with Faster Plank Sawing trophy_bronze.pngSaw Wood Cutter Expert trophy_bronze.png, and Saw Wood Cutter Master trophy_bronze.png) is pretty easy to miss. If you don't get these during your initial build of the Trapper Cabin, you'll need to sell the cabin you built and restart the "level". The planks must be cut during the building process of the Cabin, not in the freeplay mode that happens when you revisit an area. This upgrade will add a measurement line to your planks when you target them with the handsaw, but it's not really necessary to have unless you're trying to be exact with your building process. As soon as the upgrade becomes available, unlock it in your upgrade tree to get this trophy.
  • Cut 18 Planks and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy is available to earn as you build the Trapper Cabin, but it's not guaranteed, unlike most of the other trophies associated with this building. You'll need to use the handsaw (it's located on the tool table with the measuring tape) to cut the planks that are made from the sawmill. Because you don't technically have to cut the planks yourself to finish the Cabin, this one (along with Automatic Log Measurement trophy_bronze.pngSaw Wood Cutter Expert trophy_bronze.png, and Saw Wood Cutter Master trophy_bronze.png) is pretty easy to miss. If you don't get these during your initial build of the Trapper Cabin, you'll need to sell the cabin you built and restart the "level". The planks must be cut during the building process of the Cabin, not in the freeplay mode that happens when you revisit an area. This upgrade will increase your hand sawing speed by an incredible amount, allowing you to quickly grind out the hand saw-related trophies (all the ones mentioned above). As soon as the upgrade becomes available, unlock it in your upgrade tree to get this trophy.
  • Cut 20 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 36 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

This trophy and Faster Log Debarking trophy_bronze.png will automatically become available as you work on building the Trapper's Cabin. You'll need quite a few logs to build the overall structure of the Cabin and to get the Logs, you'll need to cut down trees in the surrounding area. Each tree you cut down will count as a Log and if you cut the tree into smaller pieces, those will also count. Just be sure to unlock these upgrades as soon as they become available in the tree so you not only get your trophies, but don't have to deal with shaving the bark off the logs manually.
  • Cut 42 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

  • Cut 60 Logs and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade and Blind Master - Lumberjack I trophy_bronze.png will automatically become available as you progress through the Trapper's Cabin build. Just make sure you activate them from the tree once they do. You'll really only need these if you intend on cutting all of the logs for the cabin to the right size yourself, but if you don't want to, the game will automatically resize everything for you.
  • Build 10x Drywall Board and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 10x Mineral Wool and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 10x Elevation PCV Panel and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will become available naturally as you build the Canadian House. This upgrade will allow you to place the PVC Panels continously by holding down r2.png, making you far more efficient when placing this item. You'll want to unlock this anyways simply for the upgrade, but be sure to activate when you can so this trophy unlocks.
  • Build 400x Foundation Block and unlock it in skill tree

  • Build 650x Foundation Block and unlock it in skill tree

The first level you'll be placing foundation blocks down in is the European House. You'll need to move the first 6 by hand (you won't be able to carry them in your inventory), then Bricklayer Beginner trophy_bronze.png will unlock, allowing you to carry them. Bricklayer Expert trophy_bronze.png will allow you to place the blocks down consecutively by just holding r2.png. Bricklayer Master trophy_silver.png will increase the speed at which you place the bricks down when holding r2.png. Then finally this trophy (Epic Master) will give you the speed of light when placing bricks while holding r2.png. All of these can be unlocked while building the European House, so just keep an eye out for the upgrade available pop-up and be sure to activate the upgrades so your trophies unlock.
  • Build 100x Drywall Board and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade (as well as Drywall Mount Expert trophy_bronze.png) will become available naturally as you build the Canadian House. The Expert upgrade will allow you to place the Drywall Boards continuously by holding r2.png and the Master upgrade will increase the speed at which you place the boards by a pretty decent amount. You'll want both of these to make your building more efficient and you'll be needing well more than 100 pieces of Drywall so missing these trophies will be pretty hard.
  • Build 120x Mineral Wool and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade (as well as Wool Mount Expert trophy_bronze.png) will become available naturally as you build the Canadian House. The Expert upgrade will allow you to place down Mineral Wool continuously by holding r2.png and the Master upgrade will increase the speed at which you place the Wool down substantially. You'll need to place far more than 120 pieces of Mineral Wool so even if you don't unlock them right away, they'll both become available during the build process. However, as with just about every other trophy on this list, make sure you activate them as soon as they become available so you make sure you get the trophies.
  • Build 25x Jungle Log and unlock it in skill tree

This will be earned in the Mud House level. To build the shell of your house, you'll need to chop down palm trees for Jungle Logs (be sure to chop the trunks after they fall to actually get the logs). You'll need more than 25 Jungle Logs for this, so this trophy will unlock naturally as you build this house. Do note that the upgrade is for actually placing the logs, not just chopping the palms down.

Be sure to also collect the leaves/rope that is generated from cutting the logs as you'll need this to tie your Jungle Logs together. There is no limit to the Palm Trees, they'll respawn sporadically as you progress through this part of building the Mud House.
  • Build 200x Shinglet and unlock it in skill tree

This upgrade will automatically become available as you build the Japan Tea House. As you're putting the shinglets on the roof, you'll get the upgrade notification. Just be sure to unlock the upgrade in the skill tree so your trophy unlocks. This upgrade just allows you to place shinglets down in one go, making the roofing process much quicker.
