Hot Wheels returns for a new generation of gamers and what a delight it is to play! This latest entry comes from Milestone and it's unlike any of their previous games. The game oozes with a certain confidence that can only come from a developer that's on the rise. You can tell that Milestone poured a lot of care and attention into it, no doubt buoyed and wanting to impress after being entrusted with such iconic properties and licenses, and impressed they have. The game is gorgeous and fun in equal measure and is sure to bring a smile to gamers of all ages.

PS5 Details:

Milestone has inexcusably refused to offer a free upgrade path for PS4 players wanting to upgrade their copy of the game to the PS5 version. This means that if you wish to play both versions of the game for trophy hunting or other purposes then you must purchase both the PS4 and PS5 versions separately.

The PS5 version benefits from the usual upgrades that we've come to expect by now including 4K 60 FPS gameplay, faster load times, activity cards and DualSense features including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.

Auto-popping Information:

Gears and coins left over in your inventory are supposed to transfer over between both versions of the game. This is supposed to work both ways: going from PS4 to PS5 and vice versa. However, this is far from consistent with a number of people mentioning that it didn't work for them, whilst others who have had some success have mentioned that the amount they received wasn't the correct amount. You might also get lucky and receive a larger number of gears and coins than is left in your inventory, as happened to me. There doesn't appear to be any real explanation for why this works for some people and not for others. Nothing else transfers and no other trophies will auto-pop. If nothing transfers for you then you will have to earn gears and coins from scratch.

Step 1: Hot Wheels City Rumble

Hot Wheels City Rumble is the campaign mode within the game and it's here where you will be spending a majority of your time and earning the most trophies. There are 52 quick races, 32 time attacks, 5 boss races and 9 secrets to complete and you must also complete the unleashed goal for every quick race and time attack event. That means winning every quick race and beating the best time in every time attack. You will probably unlock some other trophies along the way as well, but you can clean up anything you missed later on.

At the end of this step, you will earn:

Step 2: Multiplayer

There are 3 multiplayer trophies, but you only need to focus on Unstoppable trophy_bronze.png which unlocks after winning 5 quick races in multiplayer. The other 2 multiplayer trophies are for completing your first multiplayer race and reaching the podium in 3 multiplayer races, both of which will unlock as you go for the 5 wins.

At the end of this step, you will earn:

Step 3: Miscellaneous Trophies

After completing the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode you should have enough coins and gears to get started on upgrading vehicles and purchasing blind boxes. You can also focus on the other miscellaneous tasks during this step such as building 5 custom tracks, winning a race with the AI difficulty set to hard, completing a race in split screen mode and anything else that you may have missed in the previous steps.

At the end of this step, you will earn:

Step 4: Coins & Gears Grind

The latest patch massively increased payouts meaning that this once huge and tedious grind is now a much faster experience. There is no longer a need to go too much out of your way to earn 100,000 coins and 25,000 gears. You will now earn 525 coins for a win in single-player versus a measly 50 coins pre-patch, whilst you will earn 725 coins for a win in multiplayer. See Unbridled Luxury (S) and What do I do with so many? (S) for more information. You will also unlock Terror of the road (S) for reaching the podium in 100 quick races during this step if you haven't already done so.

At the end of this step, you will earn:

54 trophies ( 43  )

  • Unlock all trophies.

    Congratulations on your new platinum!
  • Open your first Blind Box.

    Story-related and cannot be missed

After you boot the game up for the first time and accept the various license agreements, you will be presented with your first blind box. Open it to claim your first vehicle and this simple trophy.
  • Open a total of 10 Blind Boxes.

Please see Box collector trophy_gold.png for more detailed information.
  • Open a total of 50 Blind Boxes.

Please see Box collector trophy_gold.png for more detailed information.
  • Open a total of 100 Blind Boxes.

Blind boxes are basically just loot boxes containing randomised vehicles and there are a few ways to earn them. You will automatically earn quite a few as you progress through the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. You will probably have around 50 blind boxes by the time you complete the mode. The other way to earn them is by buying them in the shop where they cost 500 coins each. You should have enough coins by this point to easily purchase the remainder that you need.
  • Complete the tutorial.

    Story-related and cannot be missed

After you have opened your first blind box that you are presented with at the start of the game, you will then need to choose a vehicle to use for the tutorial race. Simply complete the race to unlock the trophy.
  • Upgrade the Rarity of one Common vehicle.

Please see Well advanced trophy_bronze.png for more detailed information.
  • Upgrade the Rarity of 10 Common vehicles.

Upgrading vehicles requires gears which is another form of currency used in the game and there are a few ways to earn them. You will automatically earn quite a few as you progress through the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. You can also earn gears by dismantling vehicles you own. The amount of gears you recieve will vary depending upon the rarity of the vehicle. Common vehicles will give you 50 gears, whilst a legendary vehicle will give you 200 gears.

Upgrading a common vehicle costs 200 gears and the vehicle will increase to rare as a result. As you need to do this 10 times, this will set you back 2,000 gears. You should have more than enough gears by the time you finish the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode, so this shouldn't be a problem.
  • Upgrade the Rarity of one Rare vehicle.

Please see It’s over 9000 trophy_bronze.png for more detailed information.
  • Upgrade the Rarity of 15 Rare vehicles.

Upgrading a rare vehicle costs 500 gears and the vehicle will increase to legendary as a result. As you need to do this 15 times, this will set you back 7,500 gears. You should have more than enough gears by the time you finish the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode, so this shouldn't be a problem.
  • Get a total of 10,000 Coins.

Please see Unbridled luxury trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Get a total of 50,000 Coins.

Please see Unbridled luxury trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Get a total of 100,000 Coins.

This trophy is no longer a major grind thanks to the latest patch which massively increased payouts. You will now earn 525 coins for a win in single-player versus a measly 50 coins pre-patch, whilst you will earn 725 coins for a win in multiplayer. Earning 100,000 coins will take around 190 races if you're playing exclusively in single-player, however, you will earn a good chunk of coins as you finish the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode, so you should be a good amount of the way there by the time you complete this mode and do everything else that there is to do. To finish earning the remaining coins you can either play quick races on short tracks in single-player, which takes around 2-3 minutes per race and will net you 525 coins for the win, or you can set up a boosting session with a friend and play multiplayer races for the extra 200 coins per win. You're not saving too much time by boosting in multiplayer and it might be more hassle in the end to find someone to help out, but the choice is yours. You can also sell vehicles you own, but I do not recommend doing this as vehicles will be better used for scrapping to earn gears.
  • Get a total of 2,500 Gears.

Please see What do I do with so many? trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Get a total of 10,000 Gears.

Please see What do I do with so many? trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Get a total of 25,000 Gears.

This trophy is no longer a major grind thanks to the latest patch which massively increased payouts. You will now earn 525 coins for a win in single-player versus a measly 50 coins pre-patch, whilst you will earn 725 coins for a win in multiplayer. The increased payouts means that you can purchase 1 blind box after every win, something that used to take 10 wins to do pre-patch. Instead of immediately scrapping the vehicles you win from blind boxes, I recommend that you use any gears you already have to upgrade the rarity of vehicles. This is because you only get 50 gears from scrapping a common vehicle, but you can earn up to 200 gears from scrapping a legendary vehicle. Keep purchasing blind boxes and upgrading as many vehicles as you can to legendary before scrapping them. Now simply repeat this process until you reach 25,000 gears.
  • Complete a race in Split Screen mode.

    Second controller required

You will need a second controller for this trophy. Split screen can be accessed from the quick modes tab on the main menu. Simply pick any track and a vehicle for both controllers and then complete the race. There are no time limits to worry about so take all the time you need. You will need to complete the race with each controller separately unless you happen to be particularly ambidextrous.
  • Make a purchase in the Shop.

The shop can be accessed from the home tab on the main menu. There are 2 types of things you can buy in the shop: blind boxes which cost 500 coins each and vehicles which appear as time-limited offers, the price of which varies depending upon the rarity of the vehicles in stock. Common vehicles cost 500 coins, rare vehicles cost 1,200 coins and legendary vehicles cost 2,000 coins. It's worth mentioning that these time-limited offers rotate every 90 minutes of in-game time. That means if you close the game the timer will pause and won't start again until you boot the game up. Purchasing either a blind box or a vehicle will do for this trophy.
  • Meet the requirements of a Secret Event.

Please see Keeper of Secrets trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Meet the requirements of all the Secret Events.

Secret events are found in the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode and there are 9 of them to uncover. Secret events are marked on the map with a question mark and are easy to spot with their sparkling purple ring. It will also clearly state that they're secret events when you hover over one. Finding the events is the easy part, trying to figure out how to meet the requirements to unlock them is the tricky part, because some of them only give you a cryptic clue to go on, but fear not as I have the solutions below:

Secret #1 - Hidden To Most
Clue: Defeat the one that reigns the ice.
Solution: Win the Snow Pilot event.
    Snow Pilot event location:

Secret #2 - Can You Keep A Secret
Clue: The legend says that a restless ghost blocks the access to this path.
Solution: Win the Ghost Seekers event.
    Ghost Seekers event location:

    Secret #3 - Secret Unveiled
Clue: Complete the Reckless Driving event using the Bone Shaker vehicle.
Solution: You will unlock the Bone Shaker vehicle after winning the Ghost Seeker event. Complete the Reckless Driving event using the Bone Shaker once you have done so.
    Reckless Driving event location:

    Secret #4 - Top Secret
Clue: Complete The Best event using the Buns of Steel vehicle.
Solution: The Buns of Steel vehicle can be unlocked early on in the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. You will need to progress through a few events to reach it. From the first event in the mode (The Journey Begins), follow the road straight ahead until you reach a house with a green roof and a pink car parked outside. The reward box containing the Buns of Steel vehicle is located in this area. Complete The Best event using the Buns of Steel vehicle once you have obtained it.
    The Best event location:

    Secret #5 - Surprise!
Clue: Complete the Top Secret event.
Solution: The Top Secret event is another secret event that you will unlock once you have met the requirements for it mentioned above. Simply complete it once you have done so.
    Top Secret event location:

    Secret #6 - Reward
Clue: Complete the Amazing Drivers event using the Motosaurus vehicle.
Solution: The Motosaurus vehicle can be unlocked from a reward box on the east side of the map. From the first event in the mode (The Journey Begins), go all the way right until you reach an event called Tough Opponents and from here go straight up, passing another secret event along the way until you reach a reward box shortly after just to the left. Complete the Amazing Drivers event using the Motosaurus vehicle once you have obtained it.
    Amazing Drivers event location:

    Secret #7 - Covert
Clue: Reveal three secrets to take on the final challenge.
Solution: Simply meet the requirements of any 3 secrets to unlock this secret event.
Note: It appears that the requirements for this secret have changed. The original requirement was to beat all 4 bosses, but that is no longer the case. I'm unsure why the change was made, but it's not a big deal and it's actually easier to unlock this secret now.
    No location necessary.

Secret #8 - Hidden From View
Clue: End the winged monster's reign of terror.
Solution: Win the Jurassic Predator event.
    Jurassic Predator event location:

Secret #9 - Tell No One
Clue: Wake up, it's late! Today is your first day, you'll miss the schoolbus!
Solution: Complete The Journey Begins event using the Hot Wheels High vehicle. The Hot Wheels High vehicle can be unlocked from a reward box on the south-east side of the map. From the first event in the mode (The Journey Begins), go all the way right and then down. You will see the reward box in the bottom corner just past an event called Tough Opponents.
    The Journey Begins event location:
  • Complete the Unleashed Goal of one Event.

Please see King of the city trophy_gold.png for more detailed information.
  • Complete the Unleashed Goal of all the Events.

Unleashed goals are bonus requirements found in quick races and time attack events in the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. The unleashed goals are always the same for these events. For quick races the unleashed goal is always simply to win the race and for time attacks the unleashed goal is always to beat the best time. This is the most difficult trophy in the game, because whilst winning every race is simple enough and shouldn't cause any trouble for most people, beating the best time in the time attacks can be a lot tougher. Whilst I personally didn't find too many of the time attacks all that difficult, if you're not used to driving games you may find some of these really tough. The leniency can vary quite a bit, with some of the time attacks capable of being completed with 5 or 6 seconds to spare whilst others are really tight. If you're struggling with any in particular then your best bet is to search YouTube for strategies and solutions from other players. Some of the tracks have shortcuts that you need to take in order to beat the set time, so it's worth taking the time to research the best routes if you're struggling.
  • Win a Boss Race.

Please see No more rivals left trophy_gold.png for more detailed information.
  • Win all the Boss Races.

Boss races are found in the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode and there are 5 of them to complete. Boss races are in many ways similar to regular races with only a few slight differences. Each boss race has a unique theme and therefore unique hazardous obstacles placed around the track. They're usually longer than regular races with each lap taking around 2-3 minutes to complete. Aside from that the difficulty remains largely the same as in regular races, so you shouldn't run into any trouble with them. There are no unleashed goals to worry about during boss races as the only goal is to win.
  • Validate a Track in Track Builder mode.

Please see Expert builder trophy_bronze.png for more detailed information.
  • Validate a total of 5 Tracks in Track Builder mode.

Hot Wheels Unleashed features an in-depth track builder mode where you can go as wild as your imagination will allow you to. However, for the purpose of this trophy we will take the easier and quicker route and make slightly more simplistic tracks. The track builder mode can be accessed from the track builder tab on the main menu. A tutorial will walk you through the initial process, so you shouldn't find it too difficult to create something short and sweet. Once you have created your masterpiece you will then need to validate it. To do so, press the options button and scroll down to validate and then press cross.png. Now you need to test the track out for yourself. Once you have done so you will unlock Take the stage trophy_bronze.png for validating your first track. Now simply repeat this process another 4 times to unlock this trophy.
  • Unlock a Secret Rarity vehicle.

Please see I want 'em all trophy_gold.png for more detailed information.
  • Unlock all Secret Rarity vehicles.

There are 5 secret rarity vehicles to unlock and all will come naturally as you progress through the Hot Wheels City Rumble mode. The secret rarity vehicles and the requirements to unlock them are as follows:

    Vehicle #1 - 442 Oldsmobile
Unlock Requirement: Uncover all 9 secrets

    Vehicle #2 - Duck N' Roll
Unlock Requirement: Win all 52 quick races

    Vehicle #3 - Hi-Po Hauler
Unlock Requirement: Beat the best time on all 32 time attacks

    Vehicle #4 - Ramblin' Wrecker
Unlock Requirement: Win all 5 boss races

Vehicle #5 - Volkswagen Beach Bomb
Unlock Requirement: Automatically unlocks after obtaining the other 4 secret rarity vehicles
  • Win a Quick Race with AI Difficulty set to Hard (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

This is the only difficulty specific trophy in the game. Before starting a quick race you will need to head into the options menu and change the AI difficulty to hard if you haven't already done so. It should go without saying, but you'll want to pick the fastest vehicle you own for this and pick a short and easy track. Whilst this isn't a complete walk in the park, it isn't that difficult either. Try your best to avoid hitting walls and other obstacles and build up your boost as much as possible, because you will need it to put distance between you and the AI. Focus on completing every lap as smoothly as possible and you should bag the win.

  • Reach the podium in a total of 10 Quick Races (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

Please see Terror of the road trophy_silver.png for more detailed information.
  • Reach the podium in a total of 30 Quick Races (not unlockable in Split Screen mode).

If you wish to find a boosting partner then you can try looking here: Boosting Thread. Regardless of how you decide to tackle this trophy, it will unlock after winning your fifth race.
