Introduction:

Welcome to Hatoful Boyfriend! In the distant future, the Avian Flu has mutated birds into sapient beings, and they have taken over! It's up to you to prove that humans and birds can live together (and even fall in love!), or else you and all of humankind will be enslaved or killed!

This game is actually incredibly deep, and it gets pretty dark at times. Without giving anything away, it is likely not what you were thinking you signed up for. Yes, it is a visual novel, but it takes some pretty sharp turns for those who pay attention to the story!

Warning: This game has a tendency to crash after prolonged play (at least on the Vita version), and there is no autosave, so I suggest making manual saves every so often (press / to access the save/load menu in-game). You don't want to be halfway through a playthrough and suddenly lose your progress so I suggest saving at around 07/07 just in case.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: All bird playthroughs and Bad ending

You can really tackle most of the trophies in whichever order you please, but I suggest doing them in the rough order that they are set out in the list (ED no.01-14).

As you play the game, you can skip through the text by pressing , but know that you will need to press it multiple times, as it turns itself off between scenes.

During one of your playthroughs (it doesn't matter which) you will want to get the Bad Ending. When you come to 01/01 make a Save State, and after completing whichever walkthrough you happen to be on load up that Save, and choose the wrong decision. Refer to It's a sad thing… for more information.

Aside from that, just follow the guide for each playthrough trophy to get them all done.

Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:

  • While it lasts
  • Into the Night
  • Song of the Foolish Bird
  • Dream's End
  • Yuuya Only Lives Twice
  • Until next time!
  • A Pudding Odyssey
  • What May Come
  • Such Beautiful Eyes You Have
  • The Happy Couple
  • To the End of Emptiness
  • "Carve it into your soul, kid! LOVE BLASTER!"
  • To be the True Java Sparrow
  • Final Decisive Battle Averted
  • It's a sad thing…

Step 2: BBL Ending and Epilogue

After having completed Step 1 you are ready to do your BBL playthrough. Start a New Game, and you will be prompted with a choice. Follow the guide for I'll be waiting… and …at the Dawn for more information.

Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:

  • I'll be waiting…
  • …at the Dawn

17 trophies ( 15  )

  • Get the BBL epilogue

This trophy will be awarded along with I'll be waiting..., as long as you've completed all of the endings prior to entering the BBL section of the game. Tohri's ending is NOT required, as he is unique to the Playstation versions of the game.

There are 15 endings to earn in this game, and a number of ways to get to each ending. For each of the ending trophies I will list the sure-fire way to get the ending you need. There are other methods for each, but the steps given are tested and will guarantee success.

If you don't want to follow a guide for each trophy, the best advice is to spend as much time with the bird you want to get an ending for, and be nice to them in general. You'll also want to pay attention to their wants and needs, as there will be choices, such as purchasing a food for Ryouta near the end of the game. In order to pick the right food, you will want to pay attention to what the bird says when you interact with them.

Certain birds also have an affinity for certain statistics. Some like brains while others prefer brawn. These choices will be outlined in the walkthroughs, and will be mentioned in the description for each bird.

As you play the game, you can skip through the text by pressing , but know that you will need to press it multiple times, as it turns itself off between scenes.

Note that in the walkthroughs given, if you come across a choice that is not listed, you can pick whatever you want and it will not effect the outcome.

In order to save yourself some time, I suggest creating a Save State at 04/11 before making your first choice. 04/11 will always be the first choice, and is the first place the paths start to branch. If you load this save state at the start of each playthrough, you can save yourself a few minutes of conversation at the beginning.

  • Get Ryouta ending (ED no.01)

Please refer to …at the Dawn for general info regarding achieving each ending.

Ryouta is a simple bird, with no particular preference for what you study.

  • Get Azami ending (ED no.13)

Azami is into tough ladies, so you will want to pump weights at the Gym every chance you get! Azami has two endings, and you can take advantage of Save States to get her second ending, which will be outlined in the walkthrough below.

See below for a walkthrough for this ending (and To be the True Java Sparrow):

While following the guide below, keep an eye out for the red [SAVE STATE] step, as you will want to be aware of that when it's coming up. Once you get to that date, don't turn on auto-skip until AFTER you've saved the game.

Make the following choices on the given days for this trophy (note that any choices that don't appear below will not have any effect on your playthrough):

    • 04/11 - Join the track team.

    • 08/24 - Azami's martial arts.
    • Play the rest of the game however you choose
    • To be the True Java Sparrow unlocked!
  • Get BBL ending

After having completed Sakuya, Yuuya, Ryouta, Nageki and Nanaki's endings, when you start a New Game, you will get a new message: "You can take this chance to fulfill a promise from long ago, or you can live a normal school life this semester. Which do you choose?"

When prompted with the choice, choose "Fulfill the promise" to start the BBL playthrough.

I suggest holding off on this until you've completed ALL of the other playthroughs, so you will get the BBL Epilogue after the end credits of this playthrough. Note that Tohri's ending (#14) is NOT required, as it was newly added to this version of the game, and was not in the original PC release.

While you can make any decisions you like during this playthrough, it IS possible to FAIL prior to the BBL section, causing you to be booted back to the main menu. Thus, I'd suggest simply following one of the routes for one of the regular endings just to be safe. Once you enter the BBL section (it will be obvious), you can make any choices you like and enjoy the story at your leisure.

This playthrough will be very similar to all of your other playthroughs, and you really just need to finish the playthrough however you like in order to earn this trophy. Without spoiling anything, if you have been paying attention and reading the story thus far, definitely read through this one as you play it - it WILL be different from what you expect.

Make sure to save often just in case the game crashes during this playthrough!

  • Get Bad ending (the hawks party killed you)

The bad ending can be earned during any playthrough by simply making the wrong choice at the last prompt. The goal of the game is to prove to the birds that humans can live together with them in peace, and even fall in love and have relationships together. If you fail to do this, you will get the bad ending.

When you come to 01/01 make a Save State, and after completing whichever walkthrough you happen to be on load up that Save, and choose the wrong decision to get this out of the way quickly and easily.

  • Get Tohri Ending (ED no.14)

Please refer to …at the Dawn for general info regarding achieving each ending.

Tohri is new to this version of the game, and was not present in the original PC release. He is sandwiched into Shuu's storyline, so watch out for your chance to interact with him there!

See below for a walkthrough for this ending:

Make the following choices on the given days for this trophy (note that any choices that don't appear below will not have any effect on your playthrough):
