Introduction:
God of War Ragnarok is the fantastic follow-up from Sony Santa Monica to the Game of the Year smash hit, God of War, all the way back in 2018. God of War Ragnarok is a fine sequel to 2018's best game and improves upon it in every way imaginable. In fact, if you thought God of War (2018) was a big ol' game, then Ragnarok is about to blow your mind.

Walkthrough:
In terms of trophies and as far as God of War Ragnarok goes, the trophy list might seem a bit gentle this time around compared to its predecessor. There's no raven trophy for instance, but don't let that lure you into a self sense of security... you will still need to collect all the ravens.

That's because while there isn't a collect everything trophy per se, the Collector trophy_silver.png  requires you get all Relics and Sword Hilts. One of which you get for beating all the Berserker Gravestones. Another you get from killing a boss after killing all 48 ravens. In short, you're going to have to work for this platinum, folks, but the truth is, that the game is brilliant anyway and it won't for one second seem like a chore. Especially not thanks to our 100% collectibles guides which will make sure that you won't miss a thing. We created guides for rare resources, best armour sets, all Runic attacks, and the locations of all the weapon upgrades too, so we've got you covered.

In terms of what to do and when to do it, our advice would be to just enjoy God of War Ragnarok at your leisure, because you can always mop up everything you miss at the end. We would recommend using our 100% collectibles guide, however, as it tells you when and what you can get from an area at any one time... you'll soon discover that mostly everything is "undiscovered" for a very long time, and this will stop any kind of frustration creeping in.

We've prepared nearly 50 supplementary guides as well, should you need any other assistance. In the meantime, good luck and more importantly, have yourself a great ol' time!

36 trophies ( 15  16  23  )

  • Collect all Trophies

If you manage to unlock all the other trophies, this will be your reward, and it will be very well deserved! Congratulations!
  • Collect all of the Books

There are 14 books in God of War Ragnarok, all of which are part of the "artefacts" collectibles. In fact, they're a collection called Kvasir's Poems. You'll get this when you go for The Curator trophy_bronze.png , as that requires you collect all the artefacts anyway, but if you want to get it earlier - out of sheer curiousity - then check out our Books Location Guide here.
  • Collect all of the Artifacts

There are 38 artefacts in all to collect in God of War Ragnarok, if you want The Curator trophy. They are spread far and wide across the nine realms, and some well hidden, so check out our Artefacts Locations Guide here if you need some assistance.

Converserly you can use our massive All Collectibles Guide here, and that way you won't miss a thing!
  • Equip an Enchantment

After you fight the Nidhogg at the end of Vanaheim, as part of the story you’ll pick something up off the ground (after all the cutscenes). This will be an amulet, namely the Amulet of Yggdrasil.

The Amulet of Yggdrasil allows you to equip enchantments which can boost your stats. For instance, the first one you get, Midgard’s Endurance, gives you a cooldown bonus of 10. If you complete the Midgard Enchantment set as well, you’ll get a set bonus: “Increases the damage of all Kratos’ Ranged Attacks and abilities based on his Cooldown.”

Equip that enchantment, get this trophy.
  • Upgrade one piece of armor

When you visit Sindri in God of War Ragnarok, whether it’s mid level or back at his house, Kratos is able to upgrade his weapons and armour. In order to get this trophy, Kratos simply has to upgrade one piece of armour to a new level, by holding square on it.

A few notes: 1. This will require resources to do so, so try and loot as many red crates, loot lizard (AKA an Ormr) (AKA an Ormr)s and enemies to get as many of these as possible. 2. I know it’s hard to wonder what to upgrade in a game such as this, with limited resources, so check out our armour guide to see what God of War Ragnarok’s best armours are, both early and late game.
  • Remember the Spartan teachings

    Story-related, cannot miss.

A good portion of the way through the game (after Kratos has returned to Midgard, and just after Sindri’s house comes under attack) Kratos will learn his third and final Spartan Rage. As soon as he does, during this battle, and the cutscenes have ended, this trophy will pop.
  • Obtain all of the Apples of Iðunn and Horns of Blood Mead

Throughout God of War Ragnarok (exactly the same as in God of War (2018)) you’ll find what are called Nornir Chests. These are chests that are locked until three symbols are broken - that can mean destroying them, setting lettered braziers on fire and spinning combinations to match the front of the chest (and more!). Inside you will find either an Apple of Iounn, which boosts your health; or a Horns of Blood Mead, which boosts your rage. These actually rotate, so you’ll never get 2 Apples in a row, or the same with 2 Horns.

Good news is, there are 35 of these Nornir Chests dotted throughout the 9 realms, but in order to max out your health and your rage, you’re going to need to find 30 of them, which will raise your levels 5 times. The first level you only need 1 to boost, the second level you need 2, and so on.

Check out our Nornir Chest guide here, with locations for all the braziers, lanterns, bells, and so on. Or if you’re looking for a full collectible guide, then check out our all collectibles guide, where we lay everything out in order.
  • Purchase a Skill

While making your way through the Lower Wildwoods, on the way to the temple, you’ll be prompted to unlock a skill with the XP you’ve earned up until this point. Simply select an ability that doesn’t have an outline and hold square to unlock it. As easy as that.
  • Obtain all Shields

There are 5 shields you need to collect in God of War Ragnarok if you want the Phalanx trophy. Some are story related, some you have to craft, and others you’ll find in Legendary Chests. Fear not though, folks, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the location of all 5 shields and where to get them:

Dauntless Shield - The Dauntless Shield is one of two shields that you must craft very early on in the game. The blueprints to craft these two shields are available at Brok and Sindri’s Blacksmith shop. In fact, the first time you meet them, after your original shield breaks and needs repairing, you will have to craft one. Come back and craft the other one later.

Stone Wall Shield - Like the Dauntless Shield, this is another one that you can craft at the blacksmiths throughout the game, either Brok or Sindri.

Shatter Shield - When you get to Vanaheim in the game’s main story, and you make your way through the Abandoned Village, towards the end of the section there is a short moment where you’ll be taught (or reminded) of how the poison totems work AKA the Scorn Poles. As you climb up and out of the area, there’ll be a totem on the right of you, spewing out poison. Throw your Leviathan Axe into the totem and then drop down and get the chest. The Shatter Shield will be inside.

Guardian Shield - The Guardian Shield is Kratos’ trusty shield. Yes, the one that broke in the early game. Well, good news, folks, Kratos will get his Guardian Shield back, fully repaired, just because he decides to go back to Midgard (a fair way through the game). It’s story related, so don’t worry too much.

Onslaught Shield - When you’re venturing through the Docks of Vadgelmir in Helheim, after the Garm fight, you’ll come across a Legendary Chest on the main path. Open it and this shield is all yours. It’s hard to miss in truth, but if you’re curious (about this and Shatter Shield too), then don’t forget to check out our in-depth God of War comprehensive collectible guide that includes absolutely everything you’ll need to 100% the game.
  • Obtain all Relics and Sword Hilts

This is pretty much the toughest and likely the last trophy you’ll receive in God of War Ragnarok. On the surface, it sounds pretty easy, right? It sounds even easier when you factor in there are only 14 Relics and Sword Hilts in the game, but more often than not, they are rewarded for epic tasks, and tasks that require a lot of dedication. For instance, there is no trophy for collecting 48 of Odin’s Ravens, but, there is a Relic that you get as a reward. So, that means in order to get the God of War Ragnarok platinum trophy, you’re going to have to jump through a lot of hoops.

Check out our God of War Ragnarok Relics and Sword Hilts collectible guide for a full rundown of where to get your Relics and how to unlock them.

  • Craft the Dragon Scaled Armor Set

A significant way through the game, when you return to Vanaheim for the second time and complete the quest “Creatures of Prophecy,” Brok will expand his wares at his blacksmith store. This expansion will include more than a few items, but more importantly it’ll include the Dragon Scaled Armour set. This is a 3 set piece consisting of a breastplate, bracers and girdle. Each piece costs a significant amount of money and dragon pieces. What you’ll need to craft them is:

Dragon Scaled Breastplate needs 14,000 Hacksilver, 1 Dragon Claw and 2 Dragon Tooth.
Dragon Scaled Bracers need 10,000 Hacksilver and 10 Dragon Tooth.
Dragon Scaled Girdle needs 10,000 Hacksilver and 10 Dragon Tooth.

Once you have all the items, craft them and this trophy is yours.

If you’re looking for Dragon Claw and Dragon Tooth, well, kill a dragon and they drop them. For instance, the Beat Gravel Belly in the Demon’s Door favour in The Forbidden Sands in Alfheim will drop a Dragon Claw, while Drekis will drop multiple Dragon Tooth.

If you’re looking to upgrade them and grab more Dragon Claws and Dragon Tooths (feels weird to say tooths and not teeth) then head to The Crater area in north Vanaheim, after you’ve finished the “Scent of Survival” favour and seek out all the Dragon Hunts, for Dragon Claws and Dragon Tooth drops galore.
  • Fully repair the Amulet of Yggdrasil

In the How it Started trophy_bronze.png  trophy we discussed how and where you get the Amulet of Yggdrasil, and how you equip an enchantment. For the How It’s Going trophy, you need to take your amulet game to the next level.

Once you find the amulet you only have 2 slots you can insert Amulet Enhancements into, the other 7 are broken. In order to repair a slot on the Amulet of Yggdrasil you need to find what is known as a “Jewel of the Yggdrasil.” Once you find one in the nine realms and loot it, you can simply go back to any of the game’s blacksmiths and use said Jewel to repair one of the broken slots.

So, 7 broken slots needs 7 Jewels of the Yggdrasil. Find all 7 and you can fully repair the Amulet of Yggdrasil. Head on over to our God of War Ragnarok All Jewel of Yggdrasil Locations Guide and you’ll have all 7 in no time whatsoever.
  • Fully upgrade one armor set

If you're going for every trophy, you'll have more than enough resources to fully max out a set - key word here is set, you can't just have three random items fully maxed out.

I'd personally recommend doing the "In Service of Asgard" side quest in Svartalfheim and closing down the Mining Rigs. With the Nidavellir ore you earn in that favour, you can make a very good set of armour, the Nidavellir armour, that is great both early and late game. If you want some other great sets, check out the best 12 armor sets in God of War Ragnarok.

Secret trophies

  • Collect one flower from each of the nine realms

The Florist trophy actually relates to a side quest in God of War Ragnarok, namely, the Nine Realms in Bloom favour. In this quest you will have to find 9 flowers from 9 realms. You likely won't stumble upon this until a decent way into the game - probably when you go back and explore The Forbidden Sands in Alfheim. Don't worry either way, check out our Nine Realms in Bloom guide here and you'll be sure not to miss it.
  • Battle the Bear

The first main boss of God of War: Ragnarok is none other than a big ol’ grizzly bear. This is a story-related boss and cannot be missed.

God of War Ragnarok Bear Boss Fight Tips:
If you’re looking for some tips to beat the bear in the first chapter, then the best tip I can offer is to not get too greedy and always roll to the sides. If he’s coming at you with a yellow attack you can roll left or right, take three normal hits and then roll out. With a red strike, it’s more of an AOE attack (area of effect), so you’re going to want to roll backwards, unless he’s coming straight for you, then go either left or right if that’s the case. He gets trickier in his last phase and more cunning, so keep an eye on your health and the health drops around the small arena too. When running low, go and seek them out and quickly. The key to this fight is to not get greedy.
  • Battle the God of Thunder

Not too long after beating the bear and returning home, you’ll have to fight Thor, the God of Thunder. This is a story-related boss and cannot be missed.

God of War: Ragnarok God of Thunder Boss Fight Tips
There are multiple stages to the God of Thunder boss fight in God of War: Ragnarok. The first of the stages, is relatively easy, as Thor hasn’t really got going at this point. Stage 1 is a matter of blocking and getting in 2 or 3 light hits when you’ve either blocked or dodged his attacks. Don’t get greedy. Take a few hits, rinse and repeat.

Stage 2 of the God of Thunder boss fight is far more taxing, but there are patterns to his attacks. There are a few red attacks you need to be aware of: 1. The one where he throws his hammer (there’s also a similar one too where he sends out a thin shockwave); 2. The one where he runs at you and tries to bear hug you; and 3. An AOE attack where he slams the door at his feet. First things first in this stage, use the pillars in the ground and smash him with them (I believe there are only 2 that are designed to be used this way). This removes a good chunk of his health. Then, the best strat is to give him distance and while he’s doing that, ice up your axe (triangle). Then, dodge the axe throw, and when he comes at you with a bear hug, dodge to the side and unless a barrage of 3 or 4 hits on him. Stage 2 is a case of rinse and repeat. You can usually stay in tight after the first barrage and keep blocking and hitting him, but as soon as he goes red, that means the AOE attack is coming, so roll back and repeat.

Stage 3 is very similar to stage 2, you just have to avoid the lighting bolts every so often, by avoiding the red circles on the floor. Do all that and you’ll get through him fairly easily.
  • Battle the Mysterious Valkyrie

Story-related, cannot miss. After returning from Jotunheim, after a few brief combat scenes, this mysterious Valkyrie will ambush you and thus a fight will commence.

God of War Ragnarok Mysterious Valkyrie Boss Fight Tips
If you’ve got any experience with the Valkyrie fights from the original God of War (2018), then this Valkyrie fight in Ragnarok won’t cause you any issues as a lot of the attack patterns are the same, and there are a lot of similar movesets in play. However, if that makes you nervous because Sigrun gave you some grief, fear not, this mysterious Valkyrie isn’t at the same level as that one.

In terms of movesets, the Valkyrie here telegraphs them pretty well. For the most part, for the first half of health, she'll stay back and ping projectiles at you which you can avoid by strafing either left or right, or rolling (shield up also works for this bit too), and after that, she'll swoop in at you. This is when you want to dodge-roll to the side and then hit her until she moves away. In simplest terms, this is the vast majority of the first phase of the fight. There will be a switch up in movesets and the order they appear based on vicinity, but they depend on your range. With her red attack, roll to the side and hit her with your axe. Take your time on this phase and you should be okay.

For the second half of the fight, which is triggered by a cutscene, Sony Santa Monica rather annoyingly introduces a new Rage mechanic that heals you instead of sending you into a rage. Be aware of that, as it can be a bit disorientating. However, you've hit a checkpoint now anyway, so it doesn't matter too much.

With this phase the only real massive difference is her AOE attack where she spits out poison around her. For this you need to roll back. Most of the patterns for this phase though are incredibly similar to the first phase. Be patient, use the same strats for the same moves and this fight should be over in no time whatsoever. After the cutscene, the trophy is yours.
  • Battle Níðhögg

Story-related, cannot miss. When you reach the end of the Abandoned Village in the Vanaheim quest, you’ll come across a boss fight against Nidhogg.

    Nidhogg Boss Fight Tips
The strategy to this fight is all about learning the patterns and the visual cues. It basically boils down to a few parts:
    • Stay back and when he raises his claw and it glimmers, then dodge-roll to the side as he’ll send out a ranged attack. He’ll do the same with his other claw, just repeat that movement here.
    • Then, move in and start pummeling him. At some point he will try and bite you. Roll to the side when he does.
    • The major part that you need to get right though is when he winds up his red attack. He has two. One which will drop a large AOE attack in front of him. Roll back out of this one. The second one though is him winding up for a large attack. However, this one will trigger two blue circle prompts before he does it, so you have to double tap your shield and break it. This is your key to move in and start hitting him. After that’s done, retreat and rinse and repeat.
This strategy will see you all the way to 70% health, when a cutscene will kick in.

The next phase his two major attacks will be a laser swipe across the level from side to side, and the other that will go from it in a straight line towards you. You can roll through the former (or shield) and roll sideways for the latter. After it’s done that, move in and start hitting.

After that he’ll drop his red attack, which you need to constantly move and roll away from. Moving back and rolling to the side works here. After doing enough damage he moves pillars and repeats the process. This time though he shoots orbs into the ground which you have to avoid.
At this point Freya will drop orbs on the brambles. Switch to the Blades of Chaos and then L2 and R2 to ignite the brambles.

At this point it’ll drop onto the ground and you can pummell him until it moves. Then, it’ll introduce 2 major attacks to the fray:

    1. One attack where it’ll suck up a load of debris and shoot at you – just roll to the side to avoid that one.
    2. A red attack with blue circles that you need to break. Once you do (with the double tap of L1) you can again start wailing on it until it moves.

This cycle will rinse and repeat until near the end, with Freya asking you to throw your axe at another set of her purple orbs somewhere in the middle.

The final phase sees you return to the bridge, with similar attack patterns to phase 1, but with the stomach sucking phase included. At this point though you can throw an axe at the purple rune that Freya makes appear. Do all that and this trophy is yours.
  • Destroy Grýla's cauldron

    Story-related, cannot miss.

After you’ve been to Alfheim you’ll pay a brief visit to Jotunheim. At the end of that chapter you’ll get embroiled in a relatively simple but really cool boss fight of sorts - just focus on shooting the cauldron and trying to stun her with the candles around the map. Finish that fight, watch the cutscene and this trophy will pop.
  • Battle Garm

    Story-related, cannot miss.

A decent way into the game, Kratos and Atreus will venture to Helheim to try and tame the beast, Garm. It’s a short level in comparison to the rest and ends with a tasty boss fight against a ginormous wolf. Need some tips for the Garm boss fight? No worries, we’ve got you covered.

God of War Ragnarok Garm Boss fight Tips
As far as boss fights go, considering the relative size of Garm, the boss fight isn’t too ridiculously complicated. The general flow of the fight will go: Garm flings things at you from a distance, whether it’s icicles, large ice shock waves or flicking his chain at you - all of which you need to avoid by strafing left or right (and sometimes rolling, but especially for the ice waves, that’s not necessary); and then, when he comes at you, avoid his bite and then take a hit. That will briefly stun him and you’ll be able to get a bevy of hits in on him - it’s at this point you use your light and heavy runic attacks.
The next important thing you need to do, is when he flings his chain at you and it sticks in the ground, you need to ice it with your axe (R2 and L1) and then interact with it. This will stun Garm for a much longer time.

At 40% Garm will then jump up onto a rock and fling ice at you. Avoid it. But more importantly, after a handful of ice attacks Garm will jump back into the arena and send out a shockwave. Avoid the shockwave, whether rolling at the right time or blocking to take out the sting.

Then, it’s the first phase again, but with more intensity. And with him periodically jumping to the side and throwing ice attacks at you. Once you get him down to a small amount of health he’ll whip the chain at you 3 times. On the third time, ice it and then interact with the chain to end the fight (after some QTEs, of course).
  • Battle Heimdall

Story-related, cannot miss. After you venture into Vanaheim for a second time, and make your way through the Abandoned Village and out the other side, you’ll encounter Heimdall.

God of War Heimdall Boss Fight tips
As far as God of War Ragnarok fights go, this is an incredibly interesting one. It’s not incredibly taxing, but it does add in some fresh new takes, mainly because Heimdall can see the future.

The first stage is Heimdall on Gulltoppr. It’s a nice easy stage to ease you in. His attacks are slow and telegraphed, which make all the difference here. Just dodge, hit with the spear, throw if needs be and you’ll be golden. He basically has three attacks: 1. The bull horn flick of the head; 2. A bifrost spear attack of sorts; and 3. A Bifrost AOE attack if you get to and stay too close. Compared to every other fight so far, this is a cakewalk. Just dodge the yellow circle attacks and attack from the side.

Right, checkpoint. Now it gets interesting and very, very different. This is the actual proper fight now. It’s not particularly hard, there’s just a strategy, because you axe and blades are useless here. It’s all about the spear.

The first part of the Heimdall fight you’re simply going to want to throw spears at him. When he catches them, you’re going to want to detonate them. Do this twice and Heimdall will cotton on what you’re trying to accomplish and a new strategy is needed.

In the next part, instead of throwing them at Heimdall so he can catch them, you’re going to want to throw them at his feet instead (or the ground around him). Once he’s close to them or any, detonate them. Your objective here is to fill the stun meter.

And now, the actual proper battle. No gimmicks, just straight up brawling. In this phase he has 4 main attacks:
    1. He throws a Bifrost projectiles (side-step/roll it);
    2. He’ll launch a Bifrost AOE attack;
    3. He’ll swing his blade twice, and after the second one you can go to town on him with the spear;
    4. 4. He’ll have a red attack that you need to dodge away from. When time slows, focus on just rolling backwards.

All in all, not a hard fight. Well, first phase. Still, a pretty cool fight thus far.
In terms of his second phase, it’s basically the first phase with tweaks:
    1. His projectile attack has a larger projectile this time around;
    2. His red AOE attack he’ll do 2 or 3 times in a row now;
    3. His yellow punching attacks will usually consist of 3 punches;
    4. The only massive difference is when he starts a blue circle move in the centre of the arena, that means you need to charge him and break it.
So, like the first phase, attack after his punch attacks; and also, after you break his blue circle attack with your shield; and do those two things and dodge roll the other devastating moves, you’ll be golden. Good luck!
  • Battle Hrist and Mist

    Story-related, cannot miss.

At the end of Muspelheim quests, you’ll be bothered by two rather unwanted guests - two Valkyries that you knew you were eventually going to fight from the moment you laid eyes on them in Asgard.
  • Attend the funeral

The Funeral for a Friend trophy relates to the “A Viking Funeral” side quest, which is available after the final main quest, “The Realms at War.” To trigger it, simply head to the inn in Nidavellir in Svartalfheim, and then head to Sverd Sands. And that’s all we’ll say on the matter!
  • Return the Hammer of the Rebellion

After you’ve had a trip up to the Forge and completed the main quest, “Forging Destiny,” on your way back to the Mystic Gateway, good ol’ grumpy Durlin will approach Kratos and ask him for a favour: to return the “Hammer of the Revolution.”

Before we move on, it’s worth bearing in mind that Forging Destiny is a fair way into the game, after you’ve visited Midgard as Kratos.

In order to retrieve the Hammer of the Rebellion, you should head for Dragon Beach, which is in the southeast of the Bay of Bounty - directly east of Modvitnir’s Rig.

Once there, head up the wooden platforms on the left and interact with the blue rune slate on your left. This will project some writing onto the hammer of the big statue ahead, which when read out loud by Freya, will remove the hammer, revealing a lovely chest underneath.

Inside the chest you will find the Hammer of Revolution. Return that to Durlin, who’s in the pub in Nidavellir and this quest will come to a close, and you’ll get your much-earned trophy.
  • Fetch Lúnda's orb

Towards the end of your first trip to Vanaheim, after you’ve gone toe-to-toe with the Nidhogg, once you go back to Freyr’s Camp, speak to Lunda, who is also a blacksmith and working very close to Brok.

She will offer to fix you up her armor if you find it out in Vanaheim, but she also asks if you could help her find a mysterious orb that she’s lost somewhere. This will initiate “The Mysterious Orb” side quest/favour.

In order to finish this quest, you simply just have to go to a beach in The Veiled Passage and get the orb off the beach. You can then return it to Lunda, who can be found in the River Delta region, across from Pilgrim’s Landing.
  • Free the Hafgufas

In order to “free the Hafgufas” you’re going to have to jump through a few quest hoops. Nothing too tricky, but you won’t be able to get this until a good portion of your way through Ragnarok. So, then, how do you free the Hafgufas in God of War Ragnarok?

Firstly, this quest truly begins after you’ve been through the Temple of Light in Alfheim. While Tyr will go back through the Mystic Gateway, a new area will open up on the right. If you head down that path you will see Sindri. If you speak to Sindri he will allow you to initiate the first quest in this chain: “The Secret of Sands.”

In said mission you have to venture into The Barrens, and then head down into The Below, in order to save one of the Hafgufas. Once you’re finished in The Below and freed the Hafgufa on the surface, the first part of this quest will be done.

In order to get access to the second part of the desert region in Alfheim, you’ll have to continue with the main path. Once you’re done with Vanaheim (main story-wise) “The Elven Sanctum” mission will unlock and thus, The Forbidden Sands in Alfheim will be available.

When you break through the gate blocking the way, you’ll automatically get the “Songs of the Sands” favour. Like the first part of this questline, you’ll have to head down underground, AKA The Burrows this time, and repeat the process that you did in the first quest.

Do that and this trophy is all yours.
  • Free the Lyngbakr

While in Svartalfheim, after you’ve visited Nidavellir, you’ll come into a rather large open-world section called “Bay of Bounty.” In order to ‘Free the Lyngbakr, you need to initiate “The Weight of Chains” favour.

This can be done by sailing out to a place called “The Watchtower” which is slightly south of where it says “Bay of Bounty” on the map (it’s slightly west of Radsvinn’s Rig, if you picked up the “In Service of Asgard” mission in Nidavellir.

When you go to the Watchtower, you’ll come across a door that requires a key. Mimir will make a comment that it’s on the island by the large geyser. Head to that island and the side quest, “The Weight of Chains” will initiate.

This quest requires you simply cut three chains from Lyngbakr Island, and then visiting the south-west section of the island in the boat. Do all that and this trophy will be yours.
  • Retrieve Mardöll

Once you’re pretty much done in Vanaheim, having already taken on and beaten the Nidhogg, your main quest will take you back to Sindri’s house, but there is the option to stick around and explore and do some side quests.

If you stick around you have to clear the path in the water with a Sonic arrow. Once you’ve done that and started on your way, Freya will ask for your help. This will kick off the “Freya’s Missing Peace” favour/side quest.

In it you will have to travel to Goddess Falls in the southwest of Vanaheim and assist Freya. All you need to do to retrieve Mardoll (which is actually another sword for Freya), complete the “Freya’s Missing Peace” favour - which takes place in the Vanir Shrine region.

The only potentially tricky aspect is getting access to the southeast area of Vanaheim. To do so, head to Cliffside Ruins and set fire to the bramble at the top of the cliff, which will drop the chain down from up high. Then all you need to do is climb up and interact with the blue rune surface and use the magic chisel. This will open the path so you can start and finish the side quest.
  • Complete all of the Crater Hunts

To get access to the Crater, which can be found north of Vanaheim, you’ll need to do two things: 1. Complete the main quest, “Creatures of Prophecy”; and 2. Complete the “Scent of Survival” favour (which is initiated when you try to leave Vanaheim after the aforementioned main quest).

When you get to the Crater, you’ll notice “Dragon Hunts” in the main menu map checklist appear. These, along with “Epic Hunts,” make up the criteria for the “Crater Hunts.” There are 7 Dragon Hunts and 2 Epic Hunts in the Crater area

Of the 3 areas, the breakdown is as follows.

    The Plains
    • 2 Dragon Hunts
    • 2 Epic Hunts
    The Sinkholes
    • 2 Dragon Hunts
    The Jungle
    • 3 Dragon Hunts
Each of the Hunts is effectively a side quest/favour, and are initiated whenever you reach certain points in the level. For instance, the “Burning Skies” side quest is initiated when you reach the massive open area in the Sinkholes, in the southeast. You’ll see a dragon attack others, and you’ll be pulled into the fight, at which point you can track the quest.

  • Pet Speki and Svanna

This, unfortunately, isn’t a trophy you get for walking up to your wolves, Speki and Svanna, and petting them. Because that would be great. This trophy actually related to the favour (i.e. side quest) Animal Instincts.

Animal Instincts is a favour in the Midgard chapter of God of War Ragnarok. And by that, we mean when Kratos goes there after he’s been to Vanaheim.

In this quest players will have to clear out 4 Koll Raider Camps, all situated around the outskirts of the Lake of Nine. Once you’ve cleared all 4, and beaten the  Chieftain, Olaf Nautson, to finish the quest you need to interact with your wolves. Here, Kratos will pet them both and also net you a trophy! Double win!
  • Return all the Lindwyrms to Ratatoskr

At a certain point in your adventure through the nine realms in God of War Ragnarok, after you’ve caused a little trouble in your first visit to Vanaheim, Ratatoskr will ask for a minute of your time. He will inform you that a load of Lindwyrms have escaped, and they needed to be retrieved. Ratatoskr will give you the tools necessary to complete this job. This will also initiate “The Lost Lindwyrms” side quest/favour.

All you need to do to complete this quest is retrieve the 6 Lindwyrms, who are hiding in 6 of the 15 Yggdrasil Rifts. For a complete rundown on where all 15 Yggdrasil Rifts are and where the 6 Lindwyrm locations are, check out our in-depth God of War Ragnarok All Lindwyrm and Yggdrasil Rift Locations Guide for where they all are.
  • Return the Stags of the Four Seasons

When you get access to the north of Vanaheim, to an area called the Crater, there will be a side quest called “A Stag For All Seasons,” requiring you find all 4 Stags of the World Tree.

Firstly, to get access to the Crater you need to have finished the main quest “Creatures of Prophecy” and secondly, you’ll need to have finished the side quest/favour, “Scent of Survival.”

Secondly, in order to initiate this side quest you need to find one of four stags themselves. Once you’ve found one, you’ll then have to go back to Ratatoskr and then back to help return the stag. Do that for all 4 and this trophy is yours.
For the locations of all the stags, check out our God of War Ragnarok All Seasonal Stag Locations Guide here.
  • Complete the Trials of Muspelheim

Anyone who played the 2018 version of God of War will be familiar with the Trials of Muspelheim. Well, folks, they are back for God of War Ragnarok!

First things first, you need to find the two Muspelheim Seeds in order to gain access to Muspelheim - head here if you haven’t done that already.

Next, all you have to do is beat all 15 unique challenges. Yup, just 15. Easy. Well, they’re not incredibly tricky, but they can require some strategies to bypass a few of them. We’ve prepared a God of War Ragnarok Muspelheim Crucible Challenge Tips/Walkthrough here that you should definitely consult; and if all else fails fully upgrade your weapons (we have location guides for the Leviathan Axe upgrades, Blades of Chaos upgrades and Draupnir Spear upgrades) until you’re overpowered. Something that’s absolutely possible with the Trials of Muspelheim.
  • Battle the All-Father

    Story-related, cannot miss.

Battle the All-Father late on in the game and this trophy is yours.
  • Battle King Hrólf

About midway through the game, when you head to Migard to seek out an audience with the Norns, you'll find yourself in northeast Midgard and will find yourself in possession of the Inert Hilt of Skofnung. This will allow you "access" to the Berserker Gravestones situated around the nine realms. Destroy the opposition behind the 9 Gravestones and you'll get an audience with the King... King Hrolf to be precise.

The Berserker Fights are pretty tough in general, especially the ones where you are outnumbered, so make sure you go in with a Resurrection Stone, as well as some pretty high level weapons. If you can start with a full Rage meter too, even better.

Check out our Berserker Gravestones location guide if you need some assistance on where to go (and what rewards you can earn).
  • Battle Gná

'The True Queen' trophy relates to Gna, the Valkyrie and is a post-game fight. In order to step into the arena with Gna, simply head to Muspelheim, drop down two levels and then head right under the crawlspace in the rocks.

Grapple from rock to rock a few time until you find yourself in another arena. Here you will find Gna. She's pretty tough, so remember to max out all your weapons and if you're struggling, knock down the difficulty too. Like the Valks from God of War (2018), just watch the patterns and learn her moves, and then you'll beat her in no time whatsoever.

If you need some tips to get you started, then try these:
    • You can escape the AOE of the blue attack if you’re not too close.
    • Her jump in the air and stomp attacks are almost instant, so practice the side step and then roll. She can repeat this attack 3 times in a row!
    • Don’t try and dodge the yellow range attacks, they’ll track you. Block them instead.
    • Side step the red range attacks, and try and keep distance to give yourself more time to avoid.
    • And finally, the lunge attacks, remember to sidestep them. One of them is 1 attack, where you can hit afterwards; another is a multi-attack hit you need to roll out of (and then avoid her when she charges up and spins at the end).
