Introduction
Welcome to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, otherwise known as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves on Dreamcast which released back in 1999. Produced by SNK for the Neo Geo, Garou is part of the Fatal Fury series.
The game introduces 2 new fighting mechanics: Tactical Offense Position" (T.O.P.) and the "Just Defend" system. TOP is a special area on the life gauge, which grants the player the ability to use T.O.P. attack, gradual life recovery, and increased attack damage. "Just Defend" rewards players who successfully block an attack at the last moment with a small amount of health recovery and the ability to immediately counterattack out of block stun.
Trophy wise, the game is not so hard if you are into fighting games, but newcomers to the genre will struggle. You can get 18 trophies with little to no effort, but the Survival trophy will really test your patience.

T.O.P Mode.
Tactical Offense Position: When selecting your character, you can designate a 1/3 portion of your life bar for T.O.P. When your character's health is within this portion, you will notice that your character will begin flashing. The following benefits become available to you once you are in T.O.P:
- Enhanced damage to all of your attacks
- Faster meter build up
- Slow regeneration of your health bar (however, it doesn't regenerate past the T.O.P section)
- T.O.P special move becomes available
Just defend (JD)
By defending an attack just before it connects, you can "just defend" it. JDs can be done in succession on multi-hit attacks or combos. JD windows are normally 7 frames wide, and give you the following benefits:
- Air Defense: There is no air blocking in Garou, but you can JD in the air. (Note: you can not JD during any short or super jump.)
- Gain Life: Regain a small amount of health for a successful JD, even against moves that would do chip damage when blocked (the more damaging the move, the more life gained).
- Shorter Block Stun: If an attack is JD'd, the block stun is reduced by 2 frames, allowing you to recover faster.
- Guard Cancel (GC): Completing a special move (including T.O.P. Moves) or supers during a JD will cause a GC, immediately ending the block stun and going into the attack's animation. The motions of the command can be buffered before the JD occurs, or done entirely during the JD if you are fast enough.
- No Guard Meter Loss: JD'ing a move will not bring you closer to a guard crush (GCH) like blocking will.
Walkthrough.
Step 1: Beat Arcade/Story mode with all 14 characters.
All characters are available from the first time you start the game. Pick one and play through the story mode with it.
Try to play through the entirety of one character's story mode without using continue (I suggest using Grant), as you will eventually need to do this for a trophy anyways.
See each individual trophy for more information.
After this step you should have:
No matter what...I will fight for my destiny...!
You can't compare yourself with me!
I will meet him...won't I?
Witness the full power of the Kyokugenryu karate!
Yay, these are my skills!
Mission Complete!
Gratitude for a great death...
I will keep fighting as long as my fighting spirit inhabits my heart!
Beautiful Victory!
If you are that weak...get the heck out of here!
It was a great match!
OK!
Tremble in front of my flames!
I...I am not going to die now!
We swear for our eternal bonds
Step 2: Complete Survival mode.
This is the hardest trophy in the game, and will really test you. With some luck and dedication you will beat this mode. I recommend using Grant.
After this step you should have:
Yup...It's no bull... It's all about heart!
Step 3: Online.
Have no fear, these trophies are easy and only trouble is finding a partner to boost with.
The game is also cross-play, so you can also self-boost if you have a Vita with an alternate account, making this step considerably easier.
After this step you should have:
Legendary Wolf
THE MIGHTY RULE
MARK OF THE WOLVES
