Codemasters have brought us another iteration in the long running F1 game series and this year is arguably the best one yet. They’ve built upon last years’ already excellent game, making the career even more realistic with the return of the media, a more in depth upgrading system, ERS Deployment and dynamic rule changes. They’ve also added 8 new classic cars and of course the 2 new (or returning) tracks on the calendar: Paul Ricard and Hockenheim. Malaysia is no longer part of the calendar and thus the game.

Trophy-wise you’re looking at a much quicker platinum than last year since you won’t have to complete 5 to 7 seasons to get 75% of the upgrade parts. This time 2 full career seasons should suffice. On top of that you no longer have to reach level 50 in the online part of the game but just level 25, which is less than half of the effort since it’s a progressive ranking system. Difficulty-wise it’s pretty much on par with last year. so you’re looking at an overall pretty easy and not too grindy platinum. Have fun!

The steps below can be done in any order.

Step 1: Career

The career is where you will get the majority of the trophies. Pick any difficulty you wish, you can pick the easiest difficulty setting without penalty. Also you can choose to do short races which means you will only have to do 5 laps per race.

Start a career from the main menu, set up your driver credentials and choose a team. Pick Toro Rosso, Williams or Sauber for the Something to prove trophy, back right out and start a new career, this time picking Renault, Haas, McLaren or Force India for the Contender trophy.

Then start a new career for the last time and pick Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull for your extended career, as you will need to win a constructors championship and with these teams your teammate is much more likely to score decent points than with any of the others. This will also get you the Great expectations trophy.

Since this will be your actual career and you’ll want to get all the trophies in the quickest way possible you are going to have to put in the effort to complete all free practices, qualifying sessions and the race in every instance. During practice, try to complete as many of the team objectives you are given to earn upgrade points and use these points only in one department (e.g. Powertrain) to get that to 100% and obtain the As good as it gets trophy. Remember you’ll have to get all the points in a practice session at least once for the I expect the best and I give the best trophy. Make sure to win every race so you’ll become champion at the USA Grand Prix or earlier and keep winning after this to ensure you get the constructors title as well. If your teammate didn’t get enough points this season you will want to aim for that in the second now that your car is upgraded.

During this step you will obtain the following trophies:

  • Something to prove
  • Contender
  • Great expectations
  • Seen the sights
  • From humble beginnings
  • As good as it gets
  • A new challenger appears
  • Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it
  • There's no "I" in team
  • Go Team!
  • Flattery will get you anywhere
  • Best laid plans
  • Purple Rain
  • Best seat in the house
  • I expect the best and I give the best
  • Matching a legend
  • Streets ahead
  • Inspiring confidence
  • Out of the gates

Step 2: Time Trials / Single GPs

In this step you will be able to earn a few easy trophies in time trials and individual Grand Prix races. First set a valid lap time in Time Trial while using a set-up from a ghost and make sure you don't go off track because it needs to be a clean lap. After this you’ll want to take on the specific Grand Prix races which require you to drive with a certain driver, team and/or a certain track. Please refer to the trophy guide below for assistance on those trophies.

During this step you will obtain the following trophies:

  • It's about time
  • Patent pending
  • Homecoming
  • Superficially familiar
  • For Thomas
  • Right place, right time

Step 3: Online

In this step it's time to tackle the online trophies. Although there's just 6 of them in total, they will take a bit of time to achieve due to the fact you need to reach online level 25. The amount of time it will take is partly dependent on skill, because the better you perform in online races the more XP you obtain per race. Two trophies are related to reaching a certain XP threshold (level 11 and 25). Two other online trophies are for completing an online championship as well as winning 4 races, which can easily be combined because they can be done in a private lobby with just one other person. Lastly you’ll need to obtain a skill rating and a safety rating of ‘A’. You’ll automatically get ratings after 5 races, but to get a safety rating of ‘A’ you’ll need to complete quite a few clean races.

During this step you will obtain the following trophies:

  • Sceptre
  • More to come
  • Safety first
  • Every artist was first an amateur
  • Aces High
  • The Trooper

Step 4: Miscellaneous

In this step you will tackle the remaining trophies the game has to offer. There is a good possibility you unlocked a lot of these during one of the previous steps, but for the ones you have left please refer to the trophy guide below. None of these are very difficult or time consuming so this clean up step should be relatively quick and straightforward.

During this step you will obtain the remaining trophies:

  • Smile!
  • Back on track
  • Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
  • It's in there somewhere
  • Stepping up
  • Welcome to the real world
  • Right place, right time
  • Clean sweep
  • It's about time
  • It's still good, it's still good
  • It's the little things
  • The 1.6% club
  • Seriously, JEFF!
  • Quick as a flash
  • On your left
  • Use it or lose it
  • Bright Spark
  • Stick or shift
  • Making inroads
  • The winner takes it all

This trophy can be obtained by simply starting up a career and choose either of the mentioned teams. The trophy will pop as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate. You can get this trophy very quickly in conjunction with the Contender and Great expectations trophies by backing out with as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate and had the trophy pop, then pick one of the teams for the other trophies.

  • Accept a contract with Renault, Haas, McLaren or Force India

This trophy can be obtained by simply starting up a career and choose either of the mentioned teams. The trophy will pop as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate. You can get this trophy very quickly in conjunction with the Something to prove and Great expectations trophies by backing out with as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate and had the trophy pop, then pick one of the teams for the other trophies.

  • Accept a contract with Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull

This trophy can be obtained by simply starting up a career and choose either of the mentioned teams. The trophy will pop as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate. You can get this trophy very quickly in conjunction with the Something to prove and Contender trophies by backing out with as soon as you’ve chosen a teammate and had the trophy pop, then pick one of the teams for the other trophies.

  • Complete a Full Season of 21 Races in Career or Championships Mode

This is done in Career Mode. Simply complete a full season of 21 races so without skipping any of them. Technically you could skip free practice and qualifying but if you're going for the Platinum, you don't want to do that because of the As good as it gets trophy.

  • Complete your first Practice Programme

This is done in Career Mode. During free practice when you're in the paddock you can select Practice Programmes to obtain Upgrade Points. Simply complete one of these for this trophy. For an overview of the Practice Programmes and how to beat them, please refer to the As good as it gets trophy.

  • Complete a lap at Hockenheim

This trophy will come automatically during your career playthrough, but if you want it out of the way quickly, select Time Trial from the Main Menu and choose the Hockenheim circuit (Germany). Now simply drive a round to obtain this trophy. If you make sure you race a clean lap you can do this in conjunction with the It's about time trophy.

  • Apply all vehicle upgrades from one department

In Career Mode you can upgrade your car with Upgrade Points which are earned by completing Practice Programmes during Free Training, Completing Qualifying session and the Race itself. These points can then be spent towards upgrades.

Between races when you open your laptop, go to the ‘Research and Development’ tab with and select ‘View R&D Tree’ with . In the following menu you can select upgrades that will be developed by your team outfit’s R&D employees. For this trophy just concentrate on one department (e.g. Powertrain) and purchase every node in that department. Note that it can take up to a couple of weeks for an upgrade to get developed and that the development can fail too. In the latter case the next you purchase it it will be cheaper though.

The fastest way to rack up resource points is by getting the full 325 points you can get out of practice programs. Here’s an overview of the different programmes and how to beat them:

    • Track Acclimatisation - You will need to complete a round driving the perfect line with a good pace. You do this by driving through the gates that are projected on the track and you will be allocated points not only by driving through them, but also for going through them at the right speed. If the gate turns red after passing it, it means you’ve missed it. For a good pass it turns green and if done at the right speed too it will turn purple to indicate you’ve perfectly done it. To get a ‘perfect’ on this test you will have to pass through virtually every gate in a perfect way. You can have a few ‘green’ ones, but try to perfect almost all of them. Remember you can make use of replays for this if you fail a gate.
    • Tyre Management - The objective of this programme is to prevent tyre wear. To do this you need to be easy on the throttle and moreover, easy on the brakes. Try to coast through the corners as much as possible by letting go off the gas before the normal braking point and simply steer through the bend without braking. There is a time constraint, but since this is very generous you can take your time and coast through most corners without braking hardly at all and easily complete this.
    • Fuel Saving - This objective is to save fuel and is in practice not so different from the tyre management. To get a perfect on this objective let go off your gas way before the normal braking points and be easy on the throttle while accelerating to save lots of fuel. The time constraint feels a bit tighter on this one than it does with tyre management, but you should still be able to do this applying the same tactics.
    • ERS Management – This program makes you find a good balance between generating energy for your ERS battery and deploying it when accelerating and on the straights. You can make it as easy or hard on yourself if you like by switching modes, but I found that if you set your ERS deployment on “Low (1)” you’ll complete this program with a perfect rating on every track.
    • Qualifying Pace – Simply drive as fast as you can fort his objective. Luckily the projected time isn’t very hard to achieve so you won’t have any difficulties completing this.
    • Racing Strategy – Again fort his objective simply drive as fast as you can. If you complete 3 laps within the projected time you’ll get a ‘perfect’ in this programme.

Since your resource points max out when you reach 325 points and you can’t obtain any more after that, I recommend skipping the Racing Strategy Program because it takes the most time by far. The other Programmes are easily enough to get you to 325 points.

  • Complete a race using four different tyre compounds

A very easy trophy which can be done in any race (5 laps is enough). To change tires you need to pit and to do that you have to bring up your communications menu during the race with . Press once to get the next set of communication options and there you should see different tire options (e.g. soft, ultrasoft, intermediate etc.). You don’t need to do this and go on to win the race so simply switch to different tires every round to obtain this. To save yourself some time you can do this trophy in conjunction with the Use it or lose it trophy.

  • Finish a race with a missing gear

This trophy can only be done in career mode and requires a bit of luck due to its randomness. As you complete sessions in your career different parts of your car start to get wear, one of which is the gearbox. As per the FIA rules you need to compete at least 6 races with a gearbox before you are allowed to install a new one and the game will ask you automatically to do so. For this trophy however you want to decline that offer and keep racing with the same gearbox to accumulate wear until it reaches at least 70%. Usually at this point the gearbox will start to malfunction during races which sometimes leads to losing a gear. Unfortunately if this happens relatively early into a race, the issue seems to resolve itself and the trophy won’t pop, so you need a bit of luck that this happens towards the end of a race. Remember that you’ll have to complete close to 2 seasons for other trophies so you’ll have several gearboxes you can try this with.

If you haven't been lucky enough to obtain this trophy by chance, there's a way to make this a bit easier. Start a Grand Prix or make a backup save in career before a race when your gearbox has enough wear. Race normally until the last lap and then change your settings to manual shifting if you don't use them already. Now start shifting up and down as fast as you can and your gearbox starts to wear really fast. Keep doing this until you lose a gear and then finish for this trophy to pop. Credits for this method go out to Lightsp33d1987and Quickey.

Please refer to the video below for visual aid on how to do this, Video courtesy of Lightsp33d1987.

  • Achieve a podium finish in any game mode

This trophy will come naturally during your career, but can be done in any game mode. Simply get a top 3 spot in any race to obtain this trophy.

  • Take your first win in any full season

This trophy will come naturally during your career because the Streets ahead trophy requires you to win just about every race in a career season. Remember this can be done on the easiest settings so this shouldn’t pose any difficulty.

  • Win the Formula 1 Drivers' Championship

This trophy can be obtained in Career Mode only. After every race you will get points based on your position. To obtain this trophy you need to amass the most points of every driver over the 20 race season. Remember this can be done on any difficulty setting.

The allocation of points per race in F1 is as follows:

    • 25 points
    • 18 points
    • 15 points
    • 12 points
    • 10 points
    • 8 points
    • 6 points
    • 4 points
    • 2 points
    • 1 point
  • Win the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship

Same as with the Top of the pile trophy you need to earn the most points over the 20 race season, except this time it will be the points of you and your team mate combined. These points go to your constructor (e.g. Mercedes or Ferrari) and together you need to get more points than any other constructor (driver duo). Remember this can be done on any difficulty setting.

  • Complete any race with all assists disabled

This can be done in any game mode, but for the easiest time select Grand Prix from the Main Menu and turn off all of the assists, both visual and mechanical. Also make sure to use Manual gears. Now go on to complete a race for this trophy. This trophy doesn’t require you to win the race so you can take as long as you want.

  • Finish on the podium at Singapore in Fernando Alonso's McLaren

From the main menu select Grand Prix and then the McLaren Racing Team and Fernando Alonso. Pick the Singapore track and go on to finish third or higher to obtain this trophy. This can be done on the easiest difficulty settings.

  • Set the fastest time in all 3 Practice sessions, take pole position and win the Grand Prix

This can be done in any offline mode, but you should be getting this naturally during your career. Simply set the fastest lap time in all three practice settings, the qualification session and then proceed to win the race to obtain this trophy.

  • Set a clean lap in any Time Trial

Select Time Trial from the Main Menu and choose any car and track and race a clean lap. A clean lap means you can’t drive into anything and you may not leave the white lines at the edges of the track wit hall four wheels. If you choose the Hockenheim circuit (Germany) for this you can do this trophy in conjunction with the Back on track trophy.

  • Obtain an upgrade at a reduced cost due to good morale

Good morale is obtained by being favorable in the media towards a certain R&D department, e.g. if you say in the post race interview the engine was made for this track your Powertrain department will get a good morale. The more good answers you give towards a certain department the better their morale will get, but for the purpose of this trophy you have to give one favorable answer. Now go on to buy a Development upgrade from that particular department, which will now automatically be at a reduced price. The trophy will pop once the upgrade gets fitted on your car, so don’t fret when it doesn’t pop right after you bought it.

  • Negotiate a new contract

During your career you’ll automatically get into contract negotiations with your own team or you can choose to negotiate with other teams. When offered a contract it doesn’t matter whether you do a counter proposal or accept it right away, this trophy will pop regardless making this unmissable.

  • Lose an upgrade due to a regulation change

At some time during a season your R&D team will announce regulation changes that could make some of your upgrades absolete. This trophy therefore has the prerequisite of having done upgrades in the first place, but this trophy is as good as unmissable anyway since you’ll be going for the As good as it gets trophy and no matter which department you choose there will be parts affected by rule changes. You'll get the option to 'adapt' the affected parts to comply to the new rules, but for the purpose of this trophy you will want to leave at least one part as is. The trophy will pop once the regulation changes go in effect.

  • Flashbacks can be used in any session while you’re on track and will prove your best friend in case you mess up a corner or collide with a wall or competitor. To use a flashback press the button and select the top option from the menu, then rewind or fast forward with the and buttons and press to magically go back in time and get this trophy.

  • Achieve a perfect result in a Practice Programme in wet weather

This can only be done in career mode and requires a bit of luck because the weather settings are random. Select one of the practice programs and get a perfect (purple) rating while it’s raining. It doesn’t matter whether it’s light or heavy rain. For an explanation on how to perfect practice programs please refer to the As good as it gets trophy. As mentioned rain is a random factor, but tracks that often rainy conditions more often than others are Silverstone (England), Red Bull Ring (Austria), Hockenheim (Germany) and Spa Francorchamps (Belgium).

  • Use the Multi Function Display to adjust your set-up while on track

A very easy trophy which can be done in any session. While on track press the button to bring up your set-up menu and change something like e.g. your front brake bias and the trophy will pop.

  • Win a total of 4 Online Races

Simply win 4 online races. This can be done in either ranked, unranked or championship races so this can be boosted. If you’re looking for a boosting partner to get this out of the way please refer to the dedicated boosting thread found HERE.

  • Complete a Race in an Online Championship

From the main menu select multiplayer and then championship. You can search for a public session or set-up your own session, which can be made public or private. Both will work for the trophy so you can find a single boosting partner and create a private championship. If you’re looking for a boosting partner to get this out of the way please refer to the dedicated boosting thread found HERE.

  • Win a 25% + distance race against 'Ultimate' AI opponents

As stated in the description you’ll have to win a race against the AI on the hardest difficulty setting in the game. This is by far the hardest trophy in the game if done legitimately, but luckily you can obtain this trophy quite easily if you don’t mind cheating a bit:

Choose the Monza (Italy) or the Monaco track and pick Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel to be assured of a spot in front of most of the grid. Before you start the race make sure you alter the settings so that the AI difficulty says ‘Ultimate’ (above 120) and the race length is set to at least 25%. Feel free to use any assists you want, but make sure to turn off damage and all rules and regulations. Now both Monaco and Monza (2) have chicanes that you can exploit by simply running straight instead of taking them properly. You will gain so much time from this that you won’t have to worry about the AI catching up with you. If you’re still having difficulties though remember that you can abuse flashbacks and the mid-session save system.

  • Politely ask your Race Engineer to stop talking to you out on track

During any racing session pull up your communications menu with and press circle to toggle between the comments until you find the one that says: ‘Shut Up Jeff’. Scroll down with and select said comment with to obtain this trophy.

  • Take pole position

This trophy will more than likely come naturally during your Career. Pole position means you can start the race from the first position on the grid and is obtained by setting the fastest time in a qualification session, Remember this can be done on any difficulty.

  • Obtain a Safety Rating of 'A' in Multiplayer

To obtain this trophy you need to race 5 online ranked races for the game to determine your Safety Rating. To get a better safety rating you’ll need to race as clean as possible which means not to making contact with objects or other drivers and staying on the track. Corner cutting is heavily penalized in regards to this trophy as well. If you raced fairly clean in your first 5 races you will get a B-rating first. In the subsequent races you’ll need to keep driving as clean as possible to get your rating up. Unfortunately the game sometimes will penalize you when others hit you or when you drive into someone unavoidably because they crashed right in front of you. Although I don’t want to advocate quitting behaviour, if you feel like you’re going to lose a lot of points after a race because of unfair coding you can close the application and start the game up again and still have the same rating as before you started that race.

  • Obtain a Skill Rating in Multiplayer

To obtain this trophy you need to race 5 online ranked races for the game to determine your racing skill. After these 5 races you’ll automatically get a rating and this trophy should pop no matter what rating you get.

Glitch Note: This trophy was glitched and there was no way to obtain it when the game released. This got fixed in update 1.05 so make sure you run this or a higher version of the game to not experience this glitch.

  • Finish in the points at Le Castellet in a Renault

From the main menu select Grand Prix and then pick a Renault car, either a modern or classic car will work. Choose the Le Castellet (France) track and go on to finish in tenth position or better to obtain this trophy. This can be done on the easiest difficulty settings.

  • Earn maximum Resource Points during Practice

The maximum amount of resource points you can earn during Practice is set to 325. If you complete and perfect at least 5 of the 6 available practice programs you’re guaranteed to reach 325 points so just pick whichever programmes you like best or find the easiest to obtain this trophy. For an explanation on how to complete and perfect the different practice programs please refer to the As good as it gets trophy.

  • Complete a race in a classic Lotus at the Circuit of the Americas

From the main menu select Grand Prix and then Classic Cars. Pick any of the 2 available Lotus cars and then select the Circuit of the Americas (USA) track, the short version works too if you want to save yourself a bit of time. Simply complete the race to obtain this trophy. Although you don’t have to win you can do this on any difficulty setting. To save yourself some time do this one in conjunction with the Stick or shift trophy.

  • Set a valid Time Trial lap with a set up taken from a rival ghost

From the main menu go into Time Trial and select a car and track. You’ll see a leaderboard with the global best times. Select one of the players on this board and opt to use their set-up. Go on to complete a valid lap and you’ll obtain this trophy.

  • Win the Spanish Grand Prix with Kimi Räikkönen

From the main menu select Grand Prix and then the Ferrari team. Choose Kimi Räikkönen as your driver and the Catalunya (Spain) track. Go on to win the race, which can be done on any difficulty setting.

  • Obtain 41 podium finishes in Career Mode

There’s 21 races races in a single season so to obtain this trophy you’ll need to complete almost two full seasons while getting in third place or better, however you can have a career last as long as 10 seasons so you have plenty of time for this. This can be done on any difficulty setting.

  • Win the Drivers' Championship at USA, or earlier

The USA Grand Prix is the 18th race in a 21 race season. To obtain this trophy you’ll need to get enough points by the end of this race or earlier for the competition to not be able to catch you on points in the remaining races. The easiest way to assure this is by simply winning all races. If you do win all races you’re guaranteed the championship in the 17th race at Suzuka (Japan) at the latest. This can be done on any difficulty setting.

  • Achieve a reaction time of less than 0.16 Seconds off the grid with race starts set to manual

One of the trickier trophies in the game. This can be done on a race start in any game mode, as long as you set the race starts to manual. At the start hold down the button and hold the throttle, then when the starting lights go off release the button as fast as you can. The required reaction time of 0.16 seconds is pretty tight so this might take quite a few tries. I advise to set all your starts to manual while going for other trophies (e.g. during career) and try to get this naturally. If by the end of the game you still haven’t managed you can always start a single Grand Prix from the main menu and keep restarting the race until you get this.

  • Receive a promotion to first driver

This can only be done in career mode. To get a promotion to first driver you need to outperform your teammate. Unlike previous years you can get promoted to first driver pretty quickly. If you win every race it shouldn’t take more than 5 to 10 races to get this.

  • Complete a valid qualifying lap using the Hotlap ERS deployment mode

This trophy is basically unmissable since this mode will be the default mode in qualifying, so unless you lower the ERS deployment yourself there’s nothing to worry about. Simply complete a qualifying session without altering anything and the trophy will pop.

  • Finish on the podium after being eliminated in Q1

This can be done in any race mode as long as you make sure you changed the default settings into a full qualification cycle. Once you get to the first qualification either set an extremely slow time or press and retire from the session to get eliminated. Continue on to complete the race and finish in third position or better to obtain this trophy.

  • Finish a race with a fully depleted battery

This trophy proves to be a bit tricky because the battery will charge every time you’re braking or coasting and there aren’t a lot of tracks with the start/finish at the far end of a straight. The best track (and possibly only track) to do this is Baku (Azerbaidjan).

  • Obtain a rank of 11 Online

    See the The Trooper trophy.

  • Obtain a rank of 25 Online

After every race, both ranked and unranked, you’ll obtain experience points that will level you up. The better you perform, both in qualifications and races, the more XP you will gain. Regardless of your skill this trophy will take quite a bit of time to obtain. Good results will help save you some time, but by far the most important thing is to simply finish your races. If you get disqualified or damage your car so badly that you can’t continue you will only get a really small amount of XP, so always prioritize finishing over a good result (e.g. if you have a ‘rammer’ behind you just let him get past).

  • Generate enough energy through ERS to power a light bulb for a year

The ERS (Energy Recovery System) deployment mode is a new addition tot his years’ game and allows you to manage the output of your battery to get some more horsepower into your engine. The ERS battery charges through braking and coasting with your car, while the energy gets deployed by accelerating and reaching high speeds. You can choose to set the ERS Deployment mode to automatic or manual, which makes no difference for this trophy.

For the purpose of this trophy I advise you however to set it to manual so that you can always assure that your battery doesn’t get fully charged and you can keep generating energy. To manage the energy deployment bring up your set-up menu while on track with the button and the last option will be the ERS settings. Make sure to always have this at least at ‘Medium (2)’ to not let your battery fully charge.

Unfortunately there’s no way to track your progress towards this trophy and it will take a long time to recover enough energy to obtain this trophy. Although all game modes (both online and offline) will count towards this trophy, this will likely be your last trophy remaining in the game anyway. However when you’ve done all the offline and online requirements for all other trophies you should be fairly close and simply have to keep racing in whichever mode you like best until this trophy pops. To give you a general idea, both me and other users have gotten this trophy when their driver in career had raced around 2,000 km and all other trophies (online and miscellaneous) were done.

  • With manual gears enabled race a car with a non sequential gearbox

From the Main Menu pick Grand Prix and select Classic Cars. Now choose one of the older cars such as the 1978 Lotus 79. Make sure you set your transmission to manual and go on to complete a race. You don’t need to win and you can set the length of the race to 3 laps and the easiest difficulty. To save yourself some time do this one in conjunction with the Superficially familiar trophy.

  • Complete a race at every short track

As the trophy description suggests you simply need to complete a race on every short track variant. There’s only 4 tracks that have a short version which are Bahrein, Circuit of the Americas (USA), Silverstone (England) and Suzuka (Japan). You can race these both in offline and online fort hem to count.

  • Obtain a gold medal in a championship

From the Main Menu choose Championship Mode and choose any of the available championships. Some Championships consist of only 6 rounds and if you win the first 4 you can quit out of the last 2 races and still win the championship, making these the shortest ones available. You can win any of the available championships to obtain this trophy though.
