Introduction:

Dredge begins as a serene fishing game, but it is what you pull out of the water and see from your boat at night that opens the game up to a much darker side. The game is a fairly relaxing and satisfying exploration game with an incredible game loop and calm waters during the day, but a taste of the Eldritch horrors found in the open ocean at night. Nothing is too stressful even at night in Dredge and the game can be enjoyed at your leisure (for the most part) as you sail the waters, fish for profits and search the depths for Relics of the past.

Walkthrough:

The first thing you should know about the game is that nothing is truly missable. There are a series of quests, referred to in-game as Pursuits, that you will be given or will stumble upon throughout your travels. On the whole, these Pursuits can be fulfilled over time and do not require any urgency or danger, but a few require you to transport items or even NPCs across the water or feed a very hungry mysterious figure, both of which if done incorrectly can result in loss of the item or death of the NPC. This will should never result in locking you out of any trophies, including Providence trophy_silver.png (for completing all quests "one way or another") nor will it affect the multiple endings. That being said, you will be given better rewards if you succeed, so reloading after a loss of items or death is encouraged.

Other than that point, you are free to explore the five areas of the map, but I have laid out the best course of action that will allow you to fulfill all tasks in the most convenient path. These steps will also coincide with the order you will be asked to collect the main Relics in, so it is best to follow along.

I am going to add one miscellaneous trophy to this step as well: Perfect Packing trophy_bronze.png. I feel it is much easier to fill your cargo hold in the beginning with fish than after you get the ability to dredge for supplies and treasures, so please give that a look before you get too far into the game.

Step One: Begin your new job as fisherman of The Marrows and find the Key Relic
You will begin with an introduction to Little Marrow, it's Mayor, Fishmonger, Shipwright and a few townsfolk. This area serves as a tutorial and will be the central hub of the map, but the introductory tasks and the Pursuits you are given by the Fishmonger become well crafted means of slowly moving you from fishing mini-games to the darker side of the game, as it introduces Aberrations as well as dredging for treasures, crafting supplies, research parts and ultimately the main MacGuffins of the game, the five Relics you will be tasked to collect.

By the end of this step you should have earned the following trophies:

Introductions trophy_bronze.png
Perfect Packing trophy_bronze.png
The Key trophy_bronze.png

Step Two: Explore the four corner areas of the map and obtain the remaining Relics
In this Roadmap, I suggest you head to the southeast corner area, Gale Cliffs, and visit the remaining islands in a clockwise path (Gale Cliffs>Stellar Basin>Twisted Strand>Devil's Spine) after obtaining each of the Relics and returning them to The Collector. This is the intended way the game leads you as well, but the one caveat to this path is that returning each Relic will award you with a special ability. All of the abilities will prove to be very helpful, but the ability you receive when turning in your third Relic will award you with the Banish ability which wards away any beast or nightmare creature that might attack and damage your ship for a short time. Its cooldown is a full day, so it will only help in emergency situations, but if you are struggling to get through an area or get stuff done at night, you can check out The Chains trophy_silver.png to see if you want to knock out that area before Stellar Basin so it is the third Relic you turn in to receive Banish (Just make sure you are still completing all Pursuits so you don't have to worry about them out of order later)

By the end of this step you should have earned the following trophies:

The Secret trophy_bronze.png
The Bond trophy_silver.png
The Chains trophy_silver.png
The Moment trophy_silver.png

Step Three: Complete any lingering Pursuits and return to speak with The Collector to initiate either of the two endings.
There are 21 Pursuits in the game and many of them are linked to obtaining the five Relics, so I am placing this task here before Clean Up. You are free to save some of the pursuits until after your playthrough of either (or both) of the endings. The game will make it very clear as you approach either ending that your progress will not be saved so there is no penalty if you have not wrapped up any business, you will be able to return to the game as if you never initiated with of the endings.

Once all the Relics have been turned in to The Collector, there are three dialogue choices you can make and two of them will lead you to the ending for Unshackled trophy_gold.png, the final choice and an extra conversation with another NPC will lead you to the ending for Sated trophy_gold.png  Check both of those trophies out for the spoiler information regarding that final choice.

By the end of this step you should have earned the following:

Providence trophy_silver.png
Unshackled trophy_gold.png
Sated trophy_gold.png

Step Four: Clean-up
Between Upgrades, Research, Fishing and Treasures, filling the Encyclopedia, using all abilities and completing all Shrines, there is alot to do in Dredge outside of the Relic collection storyline. Many of these items may already have been taken care of before this step in your playthrough, but if any of the below trophies are still waiting now is the time to knock them out.

Please also take note that there are not enough Research Parts found or awarded in the game to fully complete all research without having to purchase a number of them from the Traveling Merchant for ~$333 each and these parts are not always available for sale on each visit. Following Patch 1.1.0, which went live on 11 May 2023, it should be much easier to find Research Parts for sale at the Traveling Merchant, with even a chance of two being available at a time. See Researcher: Rods trophy_silver.png for more information and spend wisely in order to save hours of grinding at the end of your time with this game.

By the end of this step you should have earned the following:

40 trophies ( 27  14  )

  • Obtain all other trophies.

Congratulations! You have obtained all trophies for Dredge!
  • Complete the introduction quest.

    Story Related, Cannot be missed

You will begin Dredge by meeting the Mayor of Greater Marrow, who will explain the basics of fishing during the day and the dangers of staying out at night. Once you are given the loaner boat, head out and get used to the fishing controls and feel free to explore the area. You will only be able to collect Coastal sealife, but there is more than enough in the Inlet for you to make enough money to pay back your loan in full.

In fact, the first time you are fishing may be a good time to attempt Perfect Packing trophy_bronze.png so I would suggest checking out that trophy. Whether you fill your cargo completely or only gather a few fish, take them back to the dock and the Mayor will introduce you to the Fishmonger. Sell your bounty to the Fishmonger and the Mayor will offer you a Research Part as well as introduce you to the Shipwright. Once you meet the Shipwright, this trophy will be awarded.
  • Catch all known species of fish.

There are 128 different varieties of underwater fauna you will need to find throughout the game in order to fill your Encyclopedia. 67 of those creatures are the known species of fish you will need for this trophy. The other 61 are Aberrations of the species.

There are seven different rod types and the type of rod usually will coincide with the environment (Shallow for skimpier pools of water, Oceanic for large catches in the open ocean, Abyssal and Hadal rods for truly deep fishing, Mangrove for the murky swamps of Twisted Strand, Volcanic for the steamy Devil's Spine) Not all of these rods will be available through research and purchase alone, so if you are stuck on the ability to snag a type, make sure you are talking to NPCs and fulfilling the Pursuits you are given.

You will need to find 67 varities throughout the five regions and the open waters in between them. Below is a list of species by region and rod type, as well as if the species is only found at night/day or will only be caught through a Crab Pot or by Trawl Net:

    Story-Related, Cannot be missed

The Key is the first of five Relics you will need to retrieve in the game that will be the main story element of Dredge.

On or after Day 5 of your tutorial journey in Greater and Little Marrow, you will catch your first aberration. These will be a mutated or otherwise deformed version of the fauna you can catch throughout the game. If you stick to the area between Greater Marrow and Little Marrow and catch the fish you are tasked to obtain through the Fishmonger's Pursuits, you will likely catch a grotesque version of the Blue Mackrel, Cod, Arrow Squid, Grey Eel, Gulf Flounder or Black Grouper.

Which ever aberration you catch first, when you bring it to the Fishmonger, he will remove a delicately patterned handkerchief from the specimen. Once your business is done with the Fishmonger, you will be greeted by a mysterious figure who will invite you to an island just south of the Marrows, Blackstone Isle.

Arriving at this location, you will be formally introduced to The Collector, who charges you with the quest of finding five relics throughout the map: A Key, Music Box, Ring, Necklace and Pocket Watch. The Collector will also give you the ability to Dredge for treasures, materials and (most importantly) these five relics.

You will be told to ask around the town regarding any shipwrecks or strange phenomenon. You are welcomed to do so, as this will open up at least one more pursuit at Little Marrow, as well as give you a deeper sense of the lore. Once you speak with the Old Lighthouse Keeper, you will learn of a wreck close to the Southwest edge of Greater Marrow. Head there once you have the Dredge ability. If you are not sure where to find the Relic - Head West from Blackstone Isle and just Northwest of the larger of the three small islands you will see a dredging spot with a faint red sparkle above it.

You will need a three by two space L-shaped spot available in your cargohold to fit the item. Retrieve it and hand it over to the Collector to receive the Haste ability (the best ability of the game) and this trophy.

Retrieval of the relic and all Greater and Little Marrow Pursuits for the Providence trophy_silver.png trophy can be found in the video below:

  • Have a full cargo.

I suggest attempting this early before you start upgrading your hull or dredging for materials or treasures.

Fill every space in your cargo that isn't already holding equipment with fish. Research parts, treasures and materials do not count.

I found catching 13 Blue Mackerel and two Cod right at the beginning will be the best way to knock out this trophy. If there is not enough Blue Mackrel, grab the two space Arrow Squid at night. The later you focus on this task, the harder it will be to make a perfect pack.

Here are my two examples of packing your cargo fully at the beginning of the game with only the starting 2 space Coastal Rod equipped:

See the Marrows Pursuit guide video in The Key trophy_bronze.png at the 2:20 mark for a full guide on this task.
  • Catch all aberrations.

You will need to find 61 aberrated versions of the fauna you found for Master Angler trophy_gold.png throughout the five regions and the open waters in between them. Below is a list of species by region and rod type, as well as if the species is only found at night/day. No mollusks have aberrated versions, so you won't find any aberrations in your crab pots. The Aurora Jellyfish and Anchovy aberrations can still only be caught through Trawl Net, but Patch 1.1.0 has now implemented a doubled chance to catchthese two abberations

There is one useful ability that can make much of this collection easier: Whenever you use Atrophy on a fishing spot, you are guaranteed to receive at least one aberration of that species. Atrophy does have a cooldown of 12 hours, so use it accordingly to your best benefit.

  • Complete all side quests. One way or another.

Dredge is an experience told through dialogue, environmental storytelling, fishing minigames and quests. Even the main focus of the story, procuring the five Relics for the Collector, is itself a quest. All tasks you need to complete to acquire the five Relics are tied to quests and all five areas have at least two side quests that will give you beneficial items such as Research Parts, Eldritch equiment you can use in your boat, trinkets and materials, or books that once read can give you incremental buffs in various attributes (engine speed, haggling for better prices, less panic build-up at night, etc.)

In-game all quests are referred to as Pursuits. There are 21 Pursuits that are available by the end of the game for you to complete. Many of them will be tied to the story, but there are also quite a few that can be carried out before or after the Relics are retrieved.  We will be treating all the Pursuits as part of the trophy requirements and I will list the main Relic Pursuits as such just for clarity.

An important thing to note: There is no way that I have found that any of the 21 Pursuits can be failed, locking you out of this trophy.  There are enough chances that an NPC or item you are transporting can be lost, a hooded figure is not fed in time and can die, the Castaway is left behind due to lack of room in your boat and disappears, or you sell the belt buckle to the Trader instead of give it to the Grieving Father. In all of these instances, each Pursuit will still be "resolved" and you will get this trophy after resolving all 21 Pursuits. No bad ending to a Pursuit will change anything in game, including the multiple endings of the game, The only penalty for a Pursuit that maybe did not go as you hoped would be you get less (or no) rewards upon completion. Some Pursuits end badly with no reward even if you do everything right.

If you are playing with the latest patch (1.1.0 released on 11 May 2023) The timer has been removed from the Hooded Figure and Castaway Pursuits and quest items are highlighted as important when trying to sell them off, so the Grieving Father Pursuit may be easier to avoid blundering, which takes the stress away entirely.

I have created Pursuit guides for each of the five regions and you can follow those guides as they are listed in each of the five Relic trophy guides (The Key trophy_bronze.png, The Secret trophy_bronze.png, The Bond trophy_silver.png, The Chains trophy_silver.png, The Moment trophy_silver.png) and I will list them below as well. I grouped any Pursuits that are found at the small islands in between the five areas as connected to whichever of the four corner areas each was nearest. The Marrows have a full third of all 21 Pursuits, so I felt the rest should be divided accordingly:

    Greater and Little Marrow
    • A Fresh Start
    • Caught to Order
    • Package Delivery
    • Grotesque Fish
    • A Place to Rest
    • Castaway
    • Lost at Sea
Additionally midway through the above quests, you meet The Collector and start the main game Pursuit

    Gale Cliffs
    • Figure in Blue
    • Best Before
    • Hermitage [Main Relic Pursuit]
Additionally, the first time you meet the Traveling Merchant you can start working on a Pursuit that involves fish from all four corner areas, Recording Rarities

    Stellar Basin
    • Lost Dog
    • Research Assistant [Main Relic Pursuit]
    • Figure in Gold
    Twisted Strand
    • Craven Courier
    • The Bitter End [Main Relic Pursuit]
    • Figure in Purple
    Devil's Spine
    • Figure in Purple
    • Flames of the Deep [Main Relic Pursuit]
    • Stone Tablets
  • Visit every dock in the game.

There are 15 Docks marked on your map, generally three to each of the five areas. I had received this trophy when I docked at the Ancient Lighthouse at the back of Devil's Spine, so I believe only these 15 docks are what is required for the task.

There are four additional docks that you can visit that are the campsite locations. These are hidden on the map and are worth visiting during your time in the game for the items you can be rewarded when pillaging them, the lore you can gather from the symbols and notes left at the abandoned sites, as well as an important endgame conversation you will need to have at any of them to initiate the "Good" Ending (See Unshackled trophy_gold.png).

Below is a map of the notated 15 Docks in the game and the four "secret" campsite locations marked by Crab Pots that may prove to be useful to visit, for this trophy or just for your gameplay in general:

  • Install equipment into every slot on your ship.

Whenever you fill all available equipment spots on your cargohold with Rods (and/or Trawl Nets), Lights and Engines, you should receive this trophy.

As you can see on the picture below I still had one more engine space upgrade to add to my hold, so you do not need to wait until all spaces are at maximum to go for this trophy

  • Research all rods.

Throughout your gameplay you will receive Research Parts. Many of these will be rewarded to you for completing tasks or side quests known as Pursuits, with others turning up while dredging or exploring shipwrecks and treasure huntng.

These Research Parts can be spent in four different tabs in your Research menu (Rods and Engines are available at the beginning, Crab Pots and Trawl Nets will be available once you are able to use them) Research Parts can then be spent on unlocking improved equipment in all four categories.  Many of the rods will need to be unlocked to complete the main Pursuit of finding the five Relics, but unlocking faster engines will greatly enhance your expereince as well. The Nets and Crab Pots, while useful enough, can be left for later, in my opinion.

The trouble is that you will need a total of 62 Research Parts to unlock all equipment, and through my expereince of playing this game two and a half times through, I still needed 25 or so Research Parts after obtaining all the parts given through Pursuits, dredging in the five areas and pillaging every shipwreck and abandoned campsite. The Traveling Merchant does sell Research Parts every now and then, but they cost upwards of $300 so you may want to have extra money on hand and buy them whenever they are available.

If you are playing with the latest patch (1.1.0 released on 11 May 2023) you should be able to buy one Research Part from the Traveling Merchant daily, with a chance to buy two on some days. This was not the case before the patch and you would need to travel back and forth or Save, Quit and Reload in hopes a Research Part would be available. Now the only drawback is your wallet, so catch fish, make money, buy Research Parts and max out your research

You can also stock your last ten to twenty Research Parts and then complete each tab's unlock tree fully, quit without saving, then reload to spend the same Research Parts to fully max out another unlock tree until all four of these are complete.

Below are the 8 items you can unlock by spending 20 Research Parts in the Rod tab:
    • Flexible Fishing Pole (Coastal/Shallow) - 2
    • Hydraulic Rod (Oceanic) - 1
    • Bottomless Lines (Abyssal/Hadal) - 1
    • Fathomless Winch (Abyssal/Hadal/Oceanic) - 3
    • Anti-Tangle Line (Mangrove/Coastal) - 2
    • Heat-Resistant Line (Volcanic / Shallow) - 2
    • Versatile Rod (Coastal/Shallow/Mangrove/Volcanic) - 4
    • Harvesting Platform (Coastal/Shallow/Oceanic) - 5
  • Research all nets.

See Researcher: Rods trophy_silver.png for a breakdown of acquiring Research Parts and completing research for all four trophies.

Below are the 5 items you can unlock by spending 12 Research Parts in the Nets tab:
    • Improved Trawl Net (Coastal) - 1
    • Silt Filtering Trawl Net (Mangrove/Shallow) - 2
    • Tempered Mesh Net Volcanic/Coastal) - 2
    • Large Trawl Net (Coastal/Shallow) - 3
    • Heavy Duty (Coastal/Oceanic) - 4
  • Research all pots.

See Researcher: Rods trophy_silver.png for a breakdown of acquiring Research Parts and completing research for all four trophies.

Below are the 6 items you can unlock by spending 10 Research Parts in the Crab Pot tab:
    • Efficient Crab Pot - 1
    • Hardy Crab Pot - 1
    • Large Crab Pot - 1
    • Complex Crab Pot - 2
    • Massive Crab Pot - 2
    • Reinforced Crab Pot - 3
  • Research all engines.

See Researcher: Rods trophy_silver.png for a breakdown of acquiring Research Parts and completing research for all four trophies.

Below are the 6 items you can unlock by spending 20 Research Parts in the Engines tab:
    • Improved Outboard Engine - 1
    • Refined Outboard Engine - 2
    • Twin Prop Engine - 3
    • Jet Drive Engine - 5
    • Twin Jet Drive Engine - 4
    • Engine Stack - 5
  • Catch 250 fish using rods.

Fishing is the main thing you will be doing in Dredge, and the brunt of that will be caught with a rod. Whether fulfilling Pursuits for Providence trophy_silver.png, the black stone shrines for Servant of the Shrines trophy_bronze.png or just fishing for profit, you should see this requirement met well before you finish your time with the game.
  • Catch 100 crabs in crab pots.

You will be given your first crab pot from the Fishmonger during the first set of pursuits in Greater Marrow, and you can upgrade to better, bigger pots that last longer or buy and/or maintain the pots you already own.

Crab pots are useful to set in waters marked as having "Plenty" of crabs and returning to whenever you have the time. The fauna you catch will always be fresh in the submerged pots but you will stop catching additional livestock once the life of the pot runs out (which ranges from 2 to 8 days based on the pot you use) It only cost ~$7 to $15 dollars to fix the pots up as good as new, so keep dropping your pots and emptying them throughout your time in Dredge and you should receive this trophy soon enough.
  • Catch 150 fish in trawl nets.

Trawl nets are fantastic to make extra money fishing as you are traveling from one island to another. You will only need to specifically use nets to catch three varieties of fauna in the game (Aurora Jellyfish, Anchovy and Scarlet Prawn - the Prawn can be caught in a crab Pot but hard to tell where these are located as they are in the Open Ocean) Otherwise, dropping your Trawl Net whenever you are moving your boat in the water will gather fish as you move so you can sell them off at your next visit to the Traveling Merchant or Fishmonger.

To fit your boat up with a Trawl Net you will need to first upgrade 4 of your Rod spaces to also support a Trawl Net by going into the Dry Dock in Greater Marrow or any of the four Floating Docks operated by the Traveling Merchant, depositing two cloth, one lumber and $125. This will allow the four squares on the left side of your cargo hull to be used for Rods or Trawl Nets interchangeably.  Next, you simply need to buy and install any Net (The first one will be available directly after making this upgrade and costs $250). Don't worry about the price, because using a net adds a useful amount of passive income while you are moving about the map. Trawl Nets just need repairs every now and again, but fish stay fresh in the submerged net and there is a lot of space to fill without any labor on your part.

Make sure to drop your Net in the water when you are traveling anywhere and you should collect 150 items before the end of your time with Dredge.
  • Sell a total of $2500 worth of fish.

Again, the main idea of the game is fishing for profit and Pursuits. If you aren't giving the fish away as a sacrifice, to feed a hooded figure or for Bait, then chances are you will be able to sell the fish to the Fishmonger or Traveling Merchant. Sell $2500 worth of fish (I assume this means anything you catch, including crabs, lobsters, jellyfish, octopus, squid and all the rest non-fish in the game as well) from catching with your Rods, Nets, Crab Pots or Atrophy ability and you will have this trophy.
  • Sell a total of $1500 worth of trinkets.

If you are dredging treasure spots and investigating shipwrecks, you will accrue quite a bit of trinkets and jewelry that you can sell to the Trader in Little Marrow. It shouldn't be an issue reaching $1500.
  • Deplete a total of 25 fishing spots.

If you are fishing each spot to depletion, or at least as many as you can or need to, you will get this organically.
  • Have a combined fishing speed of 200%.

Dependent on how many spaces you have available for Rods in your cargo hold, and the equipment you have unlocked through research or reward from Pursuits or Black Stone Shrines (See Servant of the Shrines trophy_bronze.png), you can combine a series of equipment to reach the number you need. Any combination of the below Rods and Fishing equipment totaling 200% fishing speed or above will garner you this trophy.

Items available for purchase after unlocking through research:
    • Simple Skimmer (Shallow) +12%
    • Weighted Line (Shallow) +50%
    • Flexible Fishing Pole (Coastal/Shallow) +56%
    • Hydraulic Rod (Oceanic) +62%
    • Sampling Device (Abyssal) +12%
    • Bottomless Lines (Abyssal/Hadal) +44%
    • Fathomless Winch (Abyssal/Hadal/Oceanic) +94%
    • Anti-Tangle Line (Mangrove/Coastal) +62%
    • Heat-Resistant Line (Volcanic / Shallow) +62%
    • Versatile Rod (Coastal/Shallow/Mangrove/Volcanic) +94%
    • Harvesting Platform (Coastal/Shallow/Oceanic) +150%

Items you can equip after making a sacrifice to the Black Stone Shrines:
    • Sinew Spindle (Coastal/Shallow) +6%
    • Viscera Crane (Abyssal/Hadal) +62%
    • Tendon Rod (Oceanic/Mangrove/Shallow) +31%
    • Encrusted Talisman +375%
  • Have a combined engine speed of 75kn.

Dependent on how many spaces you have available for Engines in your cargo hold, and the equipment you have unlocked through research or the Arterial Engine from the Blackstone Isle DLC, you can combine a series of equipment to reach the number you need. Any combination of the below Engine equipment totaling 75kn or above will garner you this trophy.

Items available for purchase after unlocking through research:
    • Peculiar Engine +15.8 kn
    • Rusty Outboard Engine +11.3 kn
    • Improved Outboard Engine +16.9 kn
    • Refined Outboard Engine +28.1 kn
    • Twin Prop Engine +39.4 kn
    • Jet Drive Engine +10.1 kn
    • Twin Jet Drive Engine +56.3 kn
    • Engine Stack +72.kn

Eldritch item that does not need research or purchase (other than purchasing the DLC IRL):
    • Arterial Engine (Blackstone Isle Key DLC) +7.9 kn
  • Have a combined light strength of 3000 lumens.

Dependent on how many spaces you have available for Lights in your cargo hold, and the equipment available at the Traveling Merchant or Shipwright throughout the game or rewarded through Pursuits (See The Moment trophy_silver.png for the below reward), you can combine a series of equipment to reach the number you need. Any combination of the below Lighting equipment totaling 3000 lumens (or lm) or above will garner you this trophy.

Lighting space is fairly limited and a bit awkward.  At best, you will have 4 spaces in a T formation, so most likely you will get this when you equip the Incandescent Array or Flame of the Sky towards the end. I have listed the amount of space each takes up below as well.

Items available for purchase (all lights are made available over time throughout the game):
    • Cracked Bulb (1) +500 lm
    • Cloudy Lens (1) +750 lm
    • Halogen Spotlight (2) +1800 lm
    • Tungsten Floodlight (2) +2100 lm
    • Incandescent Array (3) +3000 lm
Item rewarded for the Stone Tablet Pursuit in Devil's Spine:
    • Flame of the Sky (2) +3500 lm
  • Upgrade to the 2nd tier hull.

Before you can access the first Hull Upgrade, you will need to complete the first set of equipment space ugrades. they are as follows:
    • 2 lumber / 1 metal / 1 cloth / $95  for +2 rod
    • 1 lumber / 2 cloth / $125  for +4 net
    • 1 lumber / 2 metal / $100  for +2 engine
    • 2 lumber / 1 metal / $50 for +1 lights
Once the first set is complete you can then move on to the Hull upgrade for +5 more spaces. The Materials you will need are as follows:
    • 4 lumber / 2 metal scraps / 3 cloth / 1 refined metal / $500  for +5 New Hull

Please note that there is more than enough Refined Metal in the game that you can acquire through blowing up rock walls, dredging or pillaging shipwrecks and treasure chests and two even as Pursuit rewards in the Devil's Spine area (See The Moment trophy_silver.png). You should never really have a need to purchase any Refined Metal from the Traveling Merchant for $500 if you are exploring well enough
  • Upgrade to the 3rd tier hull.

Before you can access the second Hull Upgrade, you will need to complete the second set of equipment space ugrades. they are as follows:
    • 1 lumber / 2 metal scraps / 2 cloth / $100  for +3 Rod
    • 2 lumber / 2 metal scrap / 1 cloth / $300 for +4 Cargo
    • 2 lumber / 2 metal scrap / $75 for +1 engine
Once the second set is complete you can then move on to the Hull upgrade for +8 more spaces. The Materials you will need are as follows:
    • 4 lumber / 1 metal scrap / 3 cloth / 2 refined metal / $800  for +8 New Hull

Please note that there is more than enough Refined Metal in the game that you can acquire through blowing up rock walls, dredging or pillaging shipwrecks and treasure chests and two even as Pursuit rewards in the Devil's Spine area (See The Moment trophy_silver.png). You should never really have a need to purchase any Refined Metal from the Traveling Merchant for $500 if you are exploring well enough
  • Upgrade to the 4th tier hull.

Before you can access the third and final Hull Upgrade, you will need to complete the third set of equipment space ugrades. they are as follows:
    • 3 lumber / 1 metal scrap / 1 cloth / $120 for +2 Rod
    • 2 lumber / 2 cloth / $200 for +2 Net
    • 4 lumber / 3 metal scrap / 2 cloth / $300 for +4 Cargo
    • 2 lumber / 3 metal scrap / $80 for +1 Engine
    • 2 lumber / 2 metal scrap / $75 for +1 Light
Once the third set is complete you can then move on to the Hull upgrade for +17 more spaces. The Materials you will need are as follows:
    • 4 lumber / 3 metal scrap / 4 cloth / 3 refine metal / $1,500 for +17 New Hull

Please note that there is more than enough Refined Metal in the game that you can acquire through blowing up rock walls, dredging or pillaging shipwrecks and treasure chests and two even as Pursuit rewards in the Devil's Spine area (See The Moment trophy_silver.png). You should never really have a need to purchase any Refined Metal from the Traveling Merchant for $500 if you are exploring well enough
  • Discard 25 fish.

This will likely happen towards the end of your time with Dredge as you work on finishing your encyclopedia for Master Angler trophy_gold.png and Aberration Attractor trophy_gold.png or if you generally have no room for all the fish you catch.

Any time you hold a fish as you can move it to your cargo hold, to storage or into a depository of somekind for a Pursuit, you have the option of holding l2.png to discard the fauna. Do this 25 times and you will receive this trophy.

Secret trophies

  • Surrender the Music Box.

    Story-Related, Cannot be missed

The Second Relic is behind a rock barrier in the middle of Gale Cliffs and will require you to gain access to explosives before you can retrieve it.

When you first arrive at the town dock of Ingfell, you will be able to talk with the Retired Whaler. He will be in a bit of a sour mood concerning a long-running family feud. If you head southeast to the dock labeled "Ruins" you can meet the Hermit, who is also the Retired Whaler's estranged brother. You will learn of the Family Crest that the Hermit has lost in the waters of Gale Cliffs and the pursuit of yet another MacGuffin that you will need to complete.

If you depart from the Traveling Merchant and head East then South around the cliffs and enter inbetween the cliffs to find a large area with a waterfall, you can collect three items of importance in this area: The Conger Eel needed for the Best Before Pursuit (at night), the Family Crest which will be giving off a golden glow from the middle of the pool outside the waterfall, as well as a secret area behind the waterfall where you can find the first of the four Exotic fish for the Recording Rarities Pursuit and a treasure chest of goodies (though you will need an Abyssal Rod which you can not unlock until you have finished a few pursuits in Stellar Basin, so best to come back for the exotic catch later)

You will need to evade the large creature that patrols the cliff area waters as there is no real clear option to avoid it or scare it off this early in the game, but if you approach the waterfall area in the afternoon (4pm or 1600hr) you can attempt to quickly grab the Crest then the Conger Eel which will be there only at night (after 6pm / 1800hr) You can duck into the waterfall area (It is way too small for the creature to get you in there) and haul ass out of the area before its one eye can find you. If you do get hit, it is 2 points of damage which you can survive even without a Hull upgrade, but one hit is all you can take, so get in and get out.

With the Family Crest in your possession, visit the Hermit, then the Retired Whaler. The Whaler will tell you to head to a set of yellow flags that signify explosives that he needs to trigger to clear a pathway. Head through the giant stone arch, bank left and approach the rocks with the yellow flags on them. Select "Yes" to light the fuse and the path will be cleared. Report back to the Retired Whaler and the family conflict will be resolved. Bring the Hermit over from the Ruins to Ingfell for a tender moment between brothers and the retired Whaler will offer you a set of explosives. (Return to the Whaler later for five additional explosives if you prefer, but you can always buy them from the Traveling Merchant as well)

Finally with your own explosives in your cargo, head back to the Ruins and blow up the rock barrier. Behind the barrier you will find two dredging spots and once you are done looting the Ruins, you will have the Music Box.  If this is the second relic you are turning in, then bring the item back to the Collector and you will be given Manifest. which is a Fast Travel ability that brings you back to Blackstone Isle whenever activated.

Retrieval of the relic and all Gale Cliffs Pursuits for the Providence trophy_silver.png trophy can be found in the video below. Please take note that the information in the below video was made before Patch 1.1.0 was released. The timer has now been removed from the Hooded Figure Pursuits, so you should have an easier time succeeding on that Pursuit:

  • Entrust the Ring.

    Story-Related, Cannot be missed

Stellar Basin is the intended location for the third Relic you will retrieve. When you arrive at the Basin you will find an abandoned Research Outpost and a large basin of deep ocean that is lorded over by a giant tentacled creature. You will be unable to traverse the center area of the basin and you will find that many of the fauna in the Basin and surrounding areas are only caught with Abyssal and Hadal rods. All of these issues will be resolved through a few Pursuits and you will be able to get the Ring relic well before you finish some of the tasks in Stellar Basin if you choose to take the quickest way.

Head northwest of the four crescent land masses that surround the Basin to find the Old Fortress. Within the Old Fortress is the Researcher. She will enlist you to gather three specimens so she can complete her research to get the Abyssal rod prototype you will need.  She needs one of each of the following fauna:
    • Glowing Octopus
    • Firefly Squid
    • Aurora Jellyfish
The important thing to know about this Pursuit is that the Aurora Jellyfish can ONLY be caught with a Trawl Net. If you have not already made two changes to your boat, you will need to do so before you can complete this Pursuit. Next, you simply need to buy and install any net (The first one will be available directly after making this upgrade and costs $250. Don't worry about the price, because using a net adds a useful amount of passive income while you are moving about the map. Trawl Nets just need repairs every now and again, but fish stay fresh in the submerged net and there is a lot of space to fill without any labor on your part..

Once you can patrol the rim of the basin for the three specimens, you should head out at night and gather one of each of the three requested fauna and return to the Researcher. She will then instruct you to find the Prototype Parts at the Research Outpost. There you will find the Prototype, as well as two research parts. There is also an additional research part just to the right of the Outpost behind the rock. You will need one part for the next step, but you may as well grab them all.

On your next visit to the Researcher, the prototype will be handed back to you as a rudimentary Abyssal Rod. The Researcher will also give you a Repulsion Machine, which once hooked up to the Generator at the Research Outpost will repel the Kraken into hiding to give you time to fish the center of the Basin.

The Researcher will task you with collecting four more specimen and the Relic will be up for grabs now that you can access the middle of the Basin. Before you activate the Repulsion Machine, you should use one of your research parts to upgrade the Prototype Abyssal Rod to the Bottomless Lines Abyssal/Hadal Rod that will allow you to catch everything you need to complete this area. The rod costs $450 and takes up a 2X3 "L" shape so you will need to upgrade your rod spaces to accommodate such a space if you haven't already (One Metal Scrap, One Cloth, Two Lumber and $95)

Once you have the Abyssal/Hadal Rod and the Generator is rigged with the Repulsion Machine, activate it and start gathering. You will have a decent amount of time to gather the four specimens in the Basin, as well as the Ring Relic and even the first Recording Rarities Exotic fish that is right at the mouth of the deep basin area. Each of the items you can catch will take up a good deal of space so don't worry about getting all of them on your first run, you can always reactivate the Repulsion machine as many times as you need.

The Items to grab in the Basin are:
    • Angler Fish - for Collect All Samples (Research Assistant) Pursuit
    • Giant Amphipod - for Collect All Samples (Research Assistant) Pursuit
    • Snailfish - for Collect All Samples (Research Assistant) Pursuit
    • Loosejaw - for Collect All Samples (Research Assistant) Pursuit - [This fish is still found outside of the Basin after Patch 1.1.0 but is close enough to see with your telescope while in the middle of the area]
    • Gulper Eel - for Recording Rarities Pursuit [Hadal Rod needed]
    • Ring Relic - Directly in the center of the Basin, colored sparkle indicator may be best to find during the day
Give the specimens to the Researcher and once she has all four, the Pursuit will be complete. Your reward is a book that gives you a 15% chance not to reduce fish stocks when catching with a rod. it isn't much, but it helps.

The Gulper Eel can be reported to the Traveling Merchant (See Providence trophy_silver.png) and then sold. If this is the third relic you are turning in, then The Ring can be taken back to The Collector to receive the Banish ability (which scares away almost all Panic hallucinations and beasts for a time period) and this trophy.

Retrieval of the relic and all Stellar Basin Pursuits for the Providence trophy_silver.png trophy can be found in the video below. Please take note that the information in the below video was made before Patch 1.1.0 was released. The timer has now been removed from the Hooded Figure Pursuits, so you should have an easier time succeeding on that Pursuit: As stated above, the Loosejaw was supposed to be found inside the basin for the Research Assistant Pursuit after Patch 1.1.0, but is still just outside the circle of islands so the information regarding its location and how to catch it in the video remIans correct:

  • Relinquish the Necklace.

    Story-Related, Cannot be missed

The Twisted Strand is the northwestern swamp area of the map. A number of the livestock will need a Mangrove rod to be fished up, which you can make available in the Traveling Merchants shop through Research Parts on the Rod tab. You will need to have at least used two parts to unlock the Flexible Fishing Pole (Coastal/Shallow) which will allow you to unlock the Anti-Tangle Line (Mangrove/Coastal) for an additional two research parts, and the rod will cost you ~$350.

When you first arrive at the swamps of Twisted Strand, you can explore the area, but you will likely see the threat that is stalking the murky waters and the roots of the swamp plant life that seem to move around you and at times block your path. You will need to find the Marooned Airman amid the swamp and complete a set of quests for him.

First he will tell you of the Mind Suckers (yes, there are three of those creatures, not just one) and how his crew was eventually all taken by the beasts. He will then task you to gather the two pieces of his Mortar. The Mortar Barrel can be found at the right location (G13) and the Mortar Frame can be found at the left location (E14) in this image:

There will also be a side Pursuit to find the Dog Tags of the Airman's fallen companions. These tags will award you with Research Parts from the Airman when they are turned in, so make sure to do so before the last Mind Sucker is killed. Those can be found in the locations marked by crab pots (not the Xs) in this image (D12, E14, H13)

Once the full Mortar is retrieved, the Airman will ask you to gather fish for bait.

    Bait #1 will need:
    • 1 Gar
    • 2 Grey Mullet
    Bait #2 will need:
    • 1 Catfish (Caught at Night)
    • 1 Grey Mullet
    Bait #3 will need:
    • 2 Longfin Eel (Caught at Night)
Once you have all three baits ready, it is time to fight back against the Mind Suckers.  Approach the three traps within the swamp and place the bait in each. Within seconds, the Mind Sucker will emerge and get caught in the trap. The Airman will shoot the Mortar and kill each of the three beasts. You will need to retireve the carcass of all three and bring them back to the Airman. Whichever carcass is given last to the Airman, it will reveal the Necklace Relic.

If this is the fourth relic you are turning in, then return to the Collector to receive the Atrophy ability which is useful for Aberration Attractor trophy_gold.png as it guarantees one aberration on nearly every use, as well as finally awarding you this trophy.

Retrieval of the relic and all Twisted Strand Pursuits for the Providence trophy_silver.png trophy can be found in the video below. Please take note that the information in the below video was made before Patch 1.1.0 was released. The timer has now been removed from the Hooded Figure Pursuits, so you should have an easier time succeeding on that Pursuit:

  • Give up the Pocket Watch.

    Story-Related, Cannot be missed

The steps to obtain the final relic feel a bit easier now that we have already gone through the trials of Stellar Basin and Twisted Strand. The main pursuit of Devil's Spine is getting three flames for the Fanatic that resides at the monument with the stone hooded figures and pillared dome.  Simply catch the below fish and mollusks and deposit them in the gray stone shrines around the steamy location:
    • Spider Crab [Crab Pot]
    • Squat Lobster [Crab Pot]
    • Ghost Shark
    • Pale Skate
    • Any two aberrated  fish
Depositing the specimens in the proper shrines will give you a blue flame along with some research parts, trinkets and even two refined metals used for Hull upgrades. Add the three blue flames to the stone figures and the Fanatic will leave the Pocket Watch in your care.

Avoid the small Pirannha like fish during your time in Devil's Spine, Too many of them attached to your boat and they will summon the Unseeing Mother who can damage your boat pretty quickly.  These can be avoided by passing over the steam vents in the water.

There is a secondary pursuit that involves finding three stone tablets in the area and bringing them to the Trader in Little Marrow. He will add them to one that he just happened to have lying around to make a large square tablet you can take to the ancient Lighthouse in the back of Devil's Spine to complete one of the final Pursuits and receive the Flame of the Deep lighting fixture that produces 3,500 Lumens! These stones can be found at the locations marked with crab pots in the below image (N14, P13, Q13) :

Returning to the Collector with the final Relic will not award you with a new ability. The Collector will invite you to travel out for one of the endings, so once you have fulfilled the Relic Pursuit you can wrap up anything you want before moving on to the ending, but there is no need to worry about getting anything completed before doing so, as it does not save your progress when you initiate either ending.

Once you are ready, check out Unshackled trophy_gold.png and Sated trophy_gold.png for the spoiler guides to the two endings.

Retrieval of the relic and all Devil's Spine Pursuits for the Providence trophy_silver.png trophy can be found in the video below. Please take note that the information in the below video was made before Patch 1.1.0 was released. The timer has now been removed from the Hooded Figure Pursuits, so you should have an easier time succeeding on that Pursuit:

  • Find a use for the relics.

Once all five Relics are turned in to the Collector, he will tell you he is ready to take his book out into the ocean at night for a final ritual.  One of three things can happen at this point and two of the three choices will give you the "Bad Ending" and this trophy, the third choice requires talking with another NPC for the "Good Ending" and the Sated trophy_gold.png trophy.

It is important to note that this can be done without any effect to anything else you are working on in the game as it does not save your progress once you make the final choice who to sail into the water with to bring on either of the endings, so feel free to do both endings back to back and return to whatever Pursuits you still need to finish, or upgrades or encyclopedia entries you still have left because it will all still be there for you afterwords,

End game spoilers from here on out for both trophies:

Once you turn in the Fourth Relic, you will have an option to ask the Lighthouse Keeper at the Greater Marrow Dock a question about the "Old Mayor" this will allow you to actually set up the "Good" Ending without even having to finish the final Relic retrieval (if you are speedrunning the game or decided to play through a second time for the other ending and have already finished the Providence trophy_silver.png requirements) This will open up the chance to stumble upon an old castaway at one of the many campfire spots around the map (See Safe Havens trophy_bronze.png for campsite locations). Talking with the Old Mayor will give you a massive clue into the darker side of the story and will then give you a second conversation choice when you talk with the Collector next.

For this ending, you have two choices: You can ignore the paragrah above and bring the Collector the final Relic (The Pocket Watch) and when he invites you out for the final journey, you can choose the only option "I'm ready" and this will bring you into the ending moments of the game and you will roll the credits in ignorant bliss of the real identity of The Collector. This will give you this trophy.

Your other option is to talk with the Lighthouse Keeper, find the Old Mayor and then speak with the Collector. This will offer a second conversation option heading into the end game: "Tell me more about that book of yours." This will open up a short dialogue between the fisherman and The Collector and reveal The Collector's true identity if you choose to persist and take the book (You can always choose "Forget It" and the conversation will revert to the beginning again). You will then take the book from the Collector and can decide to still head out with him or bring the book to the Lighthouse Keeper for the good ending. If you choose to go with The Collector you will get the identical ending as above, just with a bit more knowledge.

Either way, The Collector will board your boat and you will be asked twice if you are sure you want to make this journey because the game will not save your progress from here on out. You will then need to head towards the giant beam of red light in the ocean to the left of Blackstone Isle. It will also be marked on your map (G8), but here is a screenshot of the location (you kinda can't miss it):

  • Throw it back.

I will repeat much of the context from Unshackled trophy_gold.png that pertains to the good ending.

Once you turn in the Fourth Relic and throughout the rest your playthorough of the game, you will have an option to ask the Lighthouse Keeper at the Greater Marrow Dock a question about the "Old Mayor" This is your chance to set up the "Good" Ending without even having to finish the final Relic retrieval (if you are speedrunning the game or decided to play through a second time for the other ending and have already finished the Providence trophy_silver.png requirements) This will open up the chance to stumble upon an old castaway at one of the many campfire spots around the map (See Safe Havens trophy_bronze.png for the four campsite docks marked by Crab Pots) Talking with the Old Mayor will give you a massive clue into the darker side of the story and will then give you a second conversation choice when you talk with the Collector next.

If you do talk with the Lighthouse Keeper, find the Old Mayor and then speak with the Collector. This will offer a second conversation option other than "I'm ready" heading into the endgame: "Tell me more about that book of yours." This conversation choice will open up a short dialogue between the fisherman and The Collector and reveal The Collector's true identity if you choose to persist and take the book (You can always choose "Forget It" and the conversation will revert to the beginning again). You will then take the book from the Collector and can decide to still head out with him or bring the book to the Lighthouse Keeper for the good ending.

Once you have the book, return to the Lighthouse Keeper at Great Marrow dock and select "I have the book"

She will then offer to show you the way to carry out your task. When you are ready to see the "good" ending, select "I'm ready" (from the Lighthouse Keeper conversation, not The Collector) This will make you wait until night time.

She will then point the Lighthouse beam in the same general area as the Bad Ending, but the final moments will offer a few differences and will award you this trophy

  • Hear a Foghorn echo.

Select the foghorn with L1 and use the horn while sailing. If you hear a response, you will be awarded this trophy.

If you are not seeing results on your first few tries, wait until night in or around the Marrows. Getting close to either port should activate a response, and if that doesn't work the Giant Angler disguised as a tugboat will gladly send an inviting horn response before it tries to eat you.

An example of this trophy can be seen in the Gale Cliffs Pursuits video found in the guide for The Secret trophy_bronze.png at the 23:41 mark.
  • Spot a fish of each category through your Spyglass.

The spyglass is one of many useful tools you can access with L1. It allows you to scan 360 degrees around your boat for any specific fish you may need to catch or any dredging spots in the water.

Once you have scanned enough fish to have found each of the seven varieties (Coastal, Shallow, Oceanic, Abyssal, Hadal, Mangrove and Volcanic) you should receive this trophy. You do not need to catch fish for them to count for this specific task or have unlocked the rods needed in that area, so simply look around in the five areas and you should complete this wth little effort.
  • Use Mixed Bait to attract 3 different species to a single spot.

After completing the Twisted Strand Relic Pursuit, the marooned Airman will give you one free bait as well as unlock the ability to purchase Bait at the Traveling Merchant.

Place the bait in waters with at least three types of fish nearby and you should be awarded this trophy. I was able to easily obtain this in Stellar Basin which has Coastal, Shallow, Abyssal and Hadal species in a small area.
  • Keep your Haste burn meter above 50% for 10 seconds.

The Haste ability is awarded to you after turning in the Key Relic to the Collector and it allows you to overclock your engine to boost through the water at a steady pace. This ability comes with a price though. Overclock long enough to fill the meter and you will break your engine and move unbearably slow. Overuse Haste and you will increase your panic as well.

For this trophy, boost your speed with Haste with the meter between halfway and full for ten seconds without breaking the engine by going over, and you will receive this trophy. Try feathering the square button if you are having any difficulty getting this to work.

See the Marrows Pursuits video in The Key trophy_bronze.png for an example of this at the 58:24 mark.
  • Traverse a long distance using Manifest.

Manifest is the ability awarded to you after turning in the second relic (for most players, this will likely be the Music Box from Gale Cliffs) and it allows you to instantly transport your boat to the dock of Blackstone Isle. Once you travel out to any of the four corner areas and use Manifest, you will likely have traveled far enough for this trophy.
  • Banish 10 threats.

Banish is the ability awarded after turning in the third relic. For most players this will likely be the Ring Relic retrieved in the middle of Stellar Basin. Banish wards away any creatures or panic hallucinations for a limited time and has a very long cooldown once used, so use it sparingly.

It took me nearly the whole second half of the game, banishing every pink cloud I saw, the one eyed beast, Unseeing Mother, Giant Angler Fish and every other hallucination, so I am going to assume you need to Banish ten unique and fully-formed threats. I believe my mistake was using Banish on the pink/red clouds before they became tentacles or a killer shark.

Either way, keep using the Banish ability and you will get this before you reach the end of your time with Dredge.
  • Use Atrophy on a fishing spot a long way away.

Atrophy is the ability you are awarded when you turn in the fourth Relic For most players this will likely be the Necklace Relic found in Twisted Strand after killing the Mind Suckers. Atrophy is very useful for cleaning up your encyclopedia entries for the 61 Aberrations you need for Aberration Attractor trophy_gold.png.  The ability will pull the full stock of a fishing spot with at least one guaranteed aberration of that fish. Use this ability when the closest fishing spot is a few miles out and you should receive this trophy.
  • Solve all fish shrine puzzles.

Much like the Flames of the Deep Rock Slabs in Devil's Spine, you can also make offerings of specific fish to four Black Stone Shrines in the game to receive Eldritch equipment as a reward. Some of which may prove to be useful in gameplay.

The three shrines you will need to deposit fuana into are as follows:

    Greater Marrow
    • 5 Cod
    Gale Clifs
    • Decorator Crab
    • Rock Crab (2)
    Stellar Basin
    • Blacktip Reef Shark (Night Only)
    • Bronze Whaler (Day Only)
    • Ghost Shark
    • Hammerhead Shark
    Twisted Strand
    • Any Aberrated Fish (1)

Check the video below for the location of all the shrines and fish as well as the rewards you receive and their abilities and selling price. Please note, following Patch 1.1.0 any equipment sold to the Traveling Merchant or Shipwright will be available to buy back if you regret parting with it now. The two Blackstone Isle DLC items also now have a small resale price, if you a really hardup for money. These two new bits of information are not mentioned as this is a new development made after I created the video below:
