Introduction:

The world is full of videogames about Dragon Ball and it's story, but Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot by BANDAI Namco and CyberConnect2, is one of the most complete and well done.

In this game, you will play through almost all the battle of the epic Dragon Ball Z anime, starting from Radish untill Kid Bu, with cool animations, perfect soundtrack and some free roam to explore the world of the Z warriors.

This game is quite easy and quick to plat, thanks to a free roam feature at the end of the game and thanks to the absence of missable trophies. Just play the game until the end and do some farming and clean-up at the end to get this platinum easily.

Note on DLCs: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot includes DLC which adds additional storylines. However, they are not necessary to play if all you want to do is 100% the game. You can do them for EXP boost and to make other trophies easier, so if you have them included, feel free to play them whenever you like.

Walkthrough:

When i started the game, i had a little sense of confusion because of the many features and things you can do, expecially during the free roam, so I will give you some advice here before starting with the walkthrough:

How to deal with Free Roam:
Free roam is a bit confusing at the start of the game. The best way to deal with the huge world of Dragon Ball Z, is to know what you need for the platinum, avoiding to spend many hours on free roam doing anything:
  • Green, Blue, Red and other Z orbs: in free roam, you can collect a huge quantity of colored orbs. You will need them to upgrade your characters special attacks, getting stronger versions of them and new ones. Every time you visit an area, the orbs will respawn. My suggestion is to collect the ones near to you and your objectives and farm them only when you need a certain amount of them to improve your special attacks. Don't waste your time trying to get all of them at once, because you will get Z orbs also after battles.
  • Animals, plants, minerals, mechanical items and objects: another special feature on the free roam, are animals (like dinosaurs, wolves, fishes), plants (apple, peaches), minerals, mechanichal items and random objects scattered around the world (some of them needed for cooking, some of them being D medals). You will need them for some sub-missions and for cooking but like the orbs, there are so many of them and the world is so big that will be a waste of time to try and collect all of them. Again, explore the world and collect only the ones that are near you and your goals, farming them only if you need them. Only exception is for fishing: as soon as you reach a new area, try to fish once on each new fishing spot.
  • Enemies: you will find a high number of enemies on your free roam. They're quite easy to kill but killing them is just a waste of time. Don't go around searching for a fight, fight only when they reach you.
  • Sub-stories: they're secondary missions (you can find them under a blue icon in the map) and you need 10 of them for the platinum. However, since they're quick and easy, do all of them as soon as possible, as you will get good EXP boost and good items.
those are only suggestions for a quick experience and to help you spending less time in free roam between fights and chapters, but feel free to spend all the time you want and enjoy this game in its full potential.

Step 1: Playing the story while doing sub-quests
Start the game with whatever difficult option you prefer and go through it until the end. The story is quite long but very enjoyable if you're a fan of Dragon Ball Z. Don't waste too much time in farming orbs or medal, as you can do more accurate farming at the end of the game. However, there are some things you should do:
  • Do any sub-quest you find. This will help you in building your characters and making them stronger in order to face the hardest battle in this game (see Do-Gooder trophy_bronze.png). Doing sub-missions will also help you for many other trophies (Heavy Medal trophy_silver.png, Fountain of Knowledge trophy_gold.png and Only the Finest trophy_bronze.png.
  • Unlock the skills on the skill tree and on the training grounds: This will help you again with the hardest fights and for some trophies.
  • Every time you can, try to get some full-course menu
  • Between intervals, try to get some dragon balls (only possible after Frieza chapter)
  • Every time you can, go and visit Muten/Roshi to get the rewards needed for Turtle School Legend trophy_silver.png
With this actions, you can lower the time needed for the free roam farm after the story.

At the end of this step, you will get:

Step 2: Free roam and clean-up
After the defeat of Majin Bu, it's time to do some farming. Depending on how many things you did during step 1, you will spend some time during this step in order to get the last trophies you need. In order to decrease the time needed for this step, I suggest to follow these two tips:
  1. Use Vegeta as your primary character and always have Gohan and Goku in your team. Vegeta has the powerful Big Bang attack capable of hitting all enemies, while Goku and Gohan are the most powerful character at this point. Battle will be faster and easier, reducing the time needed for platinum.
  2. Try to unlock Vegeth as soon as possible. To unlock Vegeth, you need to complete the two secondary missions of Old Kaioshin. You can find him in the Kaioshin's land. Once you unlock Vegeth, you will be able to fuse during each fight. Vegeth has the Big Bang attack also, so you can get rid of your enemies very fast. You can find the fusion under "Transformation" menù during the battle (r2.png+l2.png). You need Vegeta and Goku in your team to be able to fuse.
Once you unlock Vegeth, focus on:

  • Obtain all trophies.

Get all the other trophies to save the world and get this shiny platinum! trophy_platinum.png
  • Complete a sub story.

    See Do-Gooder trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • Complete 10 sub stories.

Sub-stories are side missions you can undertake throughout the game. You can find them under blue exclamation marks during free roam. There are many of them but you only need to complete ten for this trophy.
Since they only take a couple of minutes to complete, i suggest to do as many as possible, as they will reward you with experience, items and D medals, that can help you in your journey.

Sub-stories are only available at certain points in the story, so if you don't see any of them, it means you must go on with main quest. The first sub-story will be available at the beginning of the game when you first go to Kame House.

  • Receive a telepathic message from King Kai.

See Who Needs a Phone? trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • Receive 20 telepathic messages from King Kai.

After the battle with the saiyan, you will occasionally receive telepathic messages from King Kai. This trophy is a bit random, as you don't have any counter nor explicit requirements for telepathic messages, but it will come naturally when playing the game and getting items during free roam.

Telepatic messages will occur every time you get a not fixed amount of items: Z orbs, medals, fruits, minerals... Just collect as many items as possible and wait until King Kai will contact you with some jokes 20 times.
  • Summon Shenron from the Dragon Ball menu to make a wish.

See Shenron's Favorite trophy_silver.png for info.
  • Summon Shenron 5 times from the Dragon Ball menu to make a wish.

See Shenron's Favorite trophy_silver.png for info.
  • Summon Shenron 10 times from the Dragon Ball menu to make a wish.

After Frieza saga, during the first interlude, you will be able to collect Dragon Balls. Dragon balls will be marked on the world map and once you reach the area, you will find them in the dragon radars.

Dragon balls are quite well hidden, so once you reach the icon of the ball, make sure to explore well the area until you find them.

Once you get all 7, you can make a wish from the pause menu. Select "Dragon Balls" and then select the wish you want. There are 4 kind of wishes:
    • Revive strong enemies from the story (like Nappa or Radish). This will create a secondary mission where you will fight again the enemies of the story. However, you can fight them only during intermissions or during certain parts of the story. Also, sometimes you need a specific character to speak with them in order to start the fight.
    • Getting orbs
    • Getting money
    • Getting rare materials
The revive wishes will all be gone once you fullfill them, while the other three wishes can always be fulfilled. Once you summon Shenron to get your wish, the dragon balls will vanish and you will need 20 minutes of real time before they will be available again.

After cell saga, when Dende creates the new dragon balls, you will be able to fullfil 2 and 3 wishes from the dragon balls.
  • Complete 10 challenges at a Training Grounds location with any character.

After your first visit at the Kame House, you will unlock the Training Grounds. They are spots located in all the world where you can exchange D Medals to learn new Special Attacks by fighting some enemies, usually a team of three.

Each playable character has more than 10 challenges but to unlock some of them, you must reach certain parts of the story or reach a certain level. If you do all the battles during the story, you will be able to unlock this trophy during the Majin Bu saga.
  • Make a full-course meal.

See Only the Finest trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • Make 5 full-course meals.

In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, cooking is a feature that permits you to temporaly improve your characters strengths. Each food, can improve some statistic, helping you to face the hardest battle in the game. To cook meals, you need ingredients. They can be bought from local stores or found in free roam, by taking apples from trees, hunting animals, fishing or as a rewards for doing sub-missions or destroing items.

Once you found enough ingredients, you can cook meals in Goku's house or in local stores. Food can also be found as a reward, so it is good to destroy as many enemy objects as possible and to complete as many sub-mission as possible

In Goku's house, Chichi can cook for you Full-course meals. They're completed meals, that includes three courses and will give high boosts to your characters statistics.

To cook a full-course menu, you need recipes. They can be found scattered around the world by talking with some NPCs every time you see them talk about "recipes".

Once you have the recipes, before cooking the menu, you need the food. If you don't have them, just try to cook them with Chichi.

To make things easier, those are the steps to follow:
    • Found ingredients around the world
    • Cook or find food
    • Find recipes
    • Use the food for the full-course menus.

Once you eat 5 Full-course menus, you will get this trophy.

Note: There's no need to cook 5 different menus, they can be also the same one cooked for 5 times.
  • Collect 10 D Medals.

See Heavy Medal trophy_silver.png for info.
  • Collect 100 D Medals.

D medals are collectibles needed for training features like training grounds or training room. There are thousands of D medals in the game. You can get them by:
    • Explore the world (you can see how many D medals are scattered around an area by looking at the world map)
    • Complete side-missions
    • Complete Z Encyclopedia
    • Complete muten/Roshi's turtle school training challenges
You can easily get this trophy before the end of the game, so don't waste time looking for them in free roam. Just get them as soon as you find one in your journey.
  • Acquire a Super Attack or Mastery in the Super Attack Skill Tree.

  • Acquire 50 Super Attacks or Masteries in the Super Attack Skill Tree.

  • Acquire 100 Super Attacks or Masteries in the Super Attack Skill Tree.

The super attack skill tree is where you can spend Z Orbs to improve the super attacks of your characters. Each character (also the supports ones) has his own Skill Tree and you will be able to unlock and improve super attacks by spending red, green, blue or rainbow Orbs, depending on the skill. To get this trophy, just unlock 100 of them.

This trophy could require a bit of farming, however, as you need high numbers of orbs to get to 100. Fortunately, farming is easy, as you will get orbs by fighting enemies and running around the maps.
Also, some of the improvements need you to get some pre-requisites:
    • you must unlock a previous version of the skill or you need to unlock two different skills to get a new one
    • Some of them can only be acquired on the Training Grounds (see Push It to the Limit trophy_bronze.png)
    • Some of them can be only acquired after certain story events or after reaching an higher level
To get to the Super attack Skill tree, just go from the pause menu to characters or team, select a character and press triangle.png.
  • Get an instant victory on an enemy.

See Can't Touch This trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • Get 50 instant victories on enemies.

Instant victories are wins that you get by just smashing the enemies in free roam without even start the fight.
Whenever you find an enemy group, just boost fly (by pressing l3.png) and go hit them for an instant win with an S rank and a good amount of Z spheres.

However, to get an instant victory, the enemy team must be around 5 levels weaker than your team. The best strategy is to try to get an instant win on every random fight you can by just boosting fly against the enemies. if you're in free roam during an Intermission, always try to have the strongest characters in your team.

If you don't start working on it from the start, you will probably get this trophy during the post-game.
  • Build a machine part.

See Robot Rider trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • See Robot Rider trophy_bronze.png for info.
  • Build a Bipedal Robo Walker.

During Cell's chapter, you will be able to build your own vehicle with Bulma. The first two options, will be an Hovercar and a Bipedal robo walker.

To build them, you need to build every single part (like the full-course menu) and for every single part you need materials and some Zeni.

Again, materials can be found by farming them in free roam (break the crystals around the world and inside the caverns) or getting them as a reward. Once you have enough materials and Zeni, you can build parts and vehicle:
  • Unlock an entry in the Z Encyclopedia.

See Fountain of Knowledge trophy_gold.png for info.
  • Unlock 200 entries in the Z Encyclopedia.

See Fountain of Knowledge trophy_gold.png for info.
  • Unlock 400 entries in the Z Encyclopedia.

The Z encyclopedia is a feature that contain almost every information of all the world of Dragon Ball. To access the Encyclopedia, just press triangle.png in the pause menu and chose from the summary the informations you want to know.

To unlock this trophy, you need to unlock 400 entries in the encyclopedia. There are different ways to unlock entries:
    • By playing the story
    • Doing side missions
    • Exploring the world
Every now and then, you will be rewarded with D medals for unlocking entries, making the encyclopedia is another good way to farm them for Heavy Medal trophy_silver.png.

Don't worry about this trophy, as you will get it without even trying.
  • Complete a Turtle School training challenge and report to Master Roshi.

See Turtle School Legend trophy_silver.png for info.
  • Complete 20 Turtle School training challenges and report to Master Roshi.

See Turtle School Legend trophy_silver.png for info.
  • Complete 50 Turtle School training challenges and report to Master Roshi.

When you first meet Muten/Roshi, he will give you some Turtle School training challenges to complete. Those are an high variety of challenges unlocked by fulfilling some requirements:
    • Getting orbs
    • Talking to people
    • Farming money
    • Defeat enemies
    • Finding recipes
    • Spending play hours
    • And so on...
You will get more than 50 of them by just playing the game normally, so you don't need to rush for them. The only thing to take care of is that they're considered complete only if you talk again to Muten/Roshi. This can only be done when there is no immediate story or sub-missions that require his attention. The best time to do this trophies is during intermissions, where you will be able to free roam to his house any time.

Even if you need only 50, try to complete as many as possible, as they also give you some good items useful for other trophies.

You can see the list of current challenges in the Story tab by pressing r1.png two times.
  • Use 10 Super Attack Assists.

To get this trophy, just use 10 Super attack assists. You can use them only when fighting in a party.

In certain battles, you will fight with one or two allies. You can't control them but you will be able to use their special attacks by pressing r1.png and then one of cross.pngcircle.pngsquare.pngtriangle.png depending on the attack you want to use. Just use 10 of them for the trophy.

Warning: Every time you use a super attack, the character will need some time to recharge before using another one again.

Using Super Attack Assists is necessary to charge up the Support Gauge to perform Z Combos for  Z Combo Zealot trophy_bronze.png.
  • Perform 10 Z Combos.

Z combos are special attacks that you can perform when playing in a team. Your support characters will have a little white bar around their icon that will fill up each time you perform a Super Attack Assist (see The Power of Friendship trophy_bronze.png).
Once the gauge is full it will become red and you can perform the combo by press r1.png+l1.png. The combo is strong and unmissable and will deal a great amount of damage to your enemy. You can perform a Z combo even with only one character on the team.

There are two ways to get this trophy:
    • Just leave all the villanous parties until the end of the game. You will decimate them in no time during the free roam, except for the last parties.
    • Destroy them each time you reach a level similar or higher. This will add a bit of time to your total time, as the battles will be a bit longer. However, you will get more experience and orbs.

To make things easier, just visit the spots where you see the "Ore" icons and use l1.png to see if there is some Boulders near it.
