Introduction:

Dante is back, this time for his first visit on Playstation 4 in the remastered version of the 2013 Devil May Cry reboot DmC! The game has been retouched and boasts crisp 1080p visuals all running in a silky smooth 60fps for the ultimate DmC experience! There are a few other changes such as the introduction of Hardcore, Must Style and Turbo mode, a few abilities have been nerfed like Demon Evade, it no longer grants as much damage or style points as before, you can use whatever weapons you want on Blue/Red enemies, but it is less effective.

The trophy list has been chopped and changed for this iteration, most of them are largely the same but what you will first notice is that there is no requirement for Heaven and Hell, and Hell and Hell playthroughs, huzzah! This results in an overall easier platinum at first glance and includes Vergil's Downfall in the platinum requirements. There are still challenges to be overcome but if you are a Devil May Cry veteran or have played the original, this won't pose a big challenge for you.

Special thanks to PowerPyx, Harry94_ and BuckaD for the videos in the guide.

Note: Bear in mind that some of the collectibles have been moved around in this version, not only that but all the keys are the same now, so any key will open any secret door, see playlist from BuckaD for all collectible locations for the Definitive Edition.

Orb Farming: This may be unnecessary for most but if you want to farm for red orbs and get lots of ability points while you're at you can net about 200 orbs every 10-15 seconds repeating Secret Mission 7. You can net about 50-60k in one hour which is more than you will need for all health/devil trigger crosses so it's up to you, it's by far the fastest method in the game. See video from SecretDecay showing this method.

Step 1 - Complete the game on Nephilim Hardcore, or on Devil Hunter/Human without Hardcore

How you wish to tackle your first playthrough is completely up to you, I chose Devil Hunter and went for as many collectibles as possible to make Son of Sparda easier, at any rate you will obtain all story related trophies and should also focus on the few misc and chapter specific trophies.

By the end of this step you will unlock:

Time to go to work guys!
Come on Puppy. Let's go!
Thing drives me crazy
Only kind of gift worth giving
Flock off, feather-face!
This baby sure can pack a punch
He's a demon too
You are not a Human, are you?
No talking!
More than just a few sparks
Whatever, Lady
You're not going to shoot me
It's time to finish this!
Cleaning up his Dad's mess
The end? Don't bet on it
Is there a problem? (if you opt for hardcore here)
It's only the rain
A man with guts and honor
There's still time
Sensational!
Looks like it's your lucky day

Step 2 - Complete the game on Son of Sparda Hardcore, or without Hardcore, gather all collectibles

If you haven't beat the game on Hardcore, do so now, it's not too much of a step up from standard Son of Sparda, this is what I did myself. Collect all missing collectibles since you have all the means to reach them now and spend 20,000 orbs at the shop. After this playthrough you will unlock Dante Must Die mode and the following trophies:

Too easy!
Is there a problem? (if you opt for hardcore here)
This party's just getting crazy!
One hell of a party!
Fill your dark soul with light
This is my kind of rain

Step 3 - Complete the game on Dante Must Die, purchase all combat upgrades, Health and Devil Crosses, 10 SSS ranks on Nephilim/Devil Hunter

For this step simply beat the game on Dante Must Die, the hardest difficulty in the game. You should also focus on combat upgrades but it's very likely you won't have them all unlocked after beating this mode. If you don't simply replay mission 20 on Nephilim to receive plenty of ability points. Once you are maxed out you can farm the same mission for orbs since they replace ability points once you are maxed out. Straight after this focus on getting your SSS ranks on 10 different missions on Nephilim or Devil Hunter.

By the end of this step you will unlock:

Devils never cry
Let’s rock, baby!
You can't handle it
Power... Give me more power!
Stylish!
I only take special jobs

Step 4 - Complete Vergils Downfall on Nephilim Hardcore, or Devil Hunter/Human without Hardcore, gather all collectibles

Same as with Dante, this is all personal choice. Vergil's story is very short and only 6 missions, it can be completed easily in under 2 hours. You should focus on getting all collectibles as Vergil has the means to reach all of them from the get go. By the end of this step you will unlock:

We have an uninvited guest
You don't belong here
Our souls are at odds brother
Don't speak. Just die! (if you opt for hardcore here)
Begone!

Step 5 - Complete Vergil's Downfall on Son of Sparda Hardcore, or without Hardcore

Same as with Dante, you should go for Hardcore here if you haven't already. After this step you will unlock Vergil Must Die and the following trophies:

I need more power!
Don't speak. Just die!

Step 6 - Complete Vergil's Downfall on Vergil Must Die, purchase all combat upgrades, Health and Devil Crosses, 5 SSS Ranks on Devil Hunter

In this step, play through on Vergil Must Die difficulty. You will have most of Vergil's upgrades and he becomes a real powerhouse, utilize your experience in beating Dante Must Die and it won't be too difficult. You should focus on finishing the combat upgrades and using whatever orbs you have on missing health and devil crosses. 5 SSS ranks is extremely easy with Vergil's Spiral Sword ability so don't worry about that. By the end of this step you will unlock:

This is the power of Sparda!
I've come to retrieve my power
I see a devil inside you has awakened
Not very classy for someone's dying words
This may be fun!
You shall die!

Step 7 - Beat Wave 50 of Bloody Palace as Dante, Wave 30 as Vergil

Two very easy trophies to finish off the platinum, simple use Super Dante costume and Super Vergil for infinite Devil Trigger and laugh at all the demons brave enough to even try and attack you. By the end of this step you will unlock:

King? Yeah, here's your crown
What are you gonna do with all that power?

  • Complete all missions (on Nephilim or above) on Hardcore mode with Dante

Hardcore is a new mode included in the Definitive Edition available on all difficulties, but for this trophy you must enable it on AT LEAST Nephilim. I recommend tackling this mode straight away on Nephilim if you are confident, otherwise save it for your Son of Sparda playthrough. In this mode there are several adjustments to increase the difficulty.

    • Enemies hit a little harder and have more health.
    • Parry windows have been adjusted, making it harder to deflect Witch's fire swords, and saw blades from Butchers for example.
    • Style ranking degrades VERY quickly making SSS ranks extremely difficulty on this mode.
    • Devil Trigger does not send enemies in to the air and depletes faster.
  • Complete all missions on the Son of Sparda difficulty with Dante

To unlock Son of Sparda you must first beat the game on any difficulty.

This difficulty is tougher than Nephilim, enemies hit harder and take a lot more to put down, not only that, but you will also have to contend with tougher enemy waves including Tyrant's, Butchers and Dreamrunners early in the game.

  • Complete all missions on the Dante Must Die difficulty with Dante

To unlock Dante Must Die you need to first beat the game on Son of Sparda, I highly advise having both health and devil trigger maxed out before attempting this mode as it will help a lot.

This is the highest difficulty in the game, or that's required for trophies at least. This is big step up from the previous mode, as enemies will hit very hard and take a lot of damage to kill. You will have to contend with brutal enemy waves throughout the whole game and if you don't kill them quickly enough, they will activate devil trigger becoming super durable, and powerful, and won't flinch from most of your attacks.

    General Tips for DMD:

    • Kill enemies quickly - I cannot stress this enough, use your most powerful moves such as Trinity Smash, Charged Eryx moves, Overdrive etc. The last thing you need on this mode is having to contend with is 1-2 Devil Trigger active Dreamrunners at once, trust me, it can get ugly.
    • Items! - Do not be afraid to use healing items if necessary as ranking means nothing here, bear in mind the game is very generous with checkpoints. Devil Stars are very useful for this playthrough as are gold orbs, save them for tough fights against Dreamrunners, Tyrants, Ghost/Blood Rages and bosses if you are struggling.
    • Restart Checkpoint - If you enter any fight with low health, feel free to restart checkpoint for a free health refill!
    • Devil Trigger - Save this for bosses and tough fights, you deal insane damage during Devil Trigger but only use it when you need it, not on weaker mobs.
    • Airborne Enemies - These critters do not have much health but can be an annoyance, pull or left towards and try kill them as a priority, you don't want to be hit by off-screen projectiles.
    • Camera Manipulation - What I found when playing on DMD was that if the enemies weren't in camera view or I didn't face it towards them, most of the the time they wouldn't attack me, play this to your advantage if against a tough group.
    • Use the environment - Most enemies in the game be knocked off edges for an instant kill, Arbiter combos, Rebellion aerial moves and Devil Pull are great for this.

Also see Boss/Enemy Tips below for more useful advice.

  • Be awarded a SSS rank on 10 different missions with Dante

This should be your last trophy for Dante's story.

As opposed to the original game, you only need to achieve an SSS rank on 10 different missions as Dante. SSS ranks are harder to achieve than on the original, but rest assured they are all perfectly doable. You CANNOT however stack the same mission on every difficulty, i.e you cannot complete mission 15 The Trade on every difficulty, it will only count as one, you must complete all 10 on a single difficulty.

You cannot use Super Dante to get SSS, items/deaths, and restarting checkpoint heavily impact your rating so avoid this at all costs. I personally recommend missions 1, 3, 4, 6, 10, 14, 15, 19, 20 as the easiest to S rank as these are short and most of them are boss fights.

Your mission rank is determined by the following:

Score: This is your style rating points achieved in a mission, it is the main thing you should be focusing on. Your aim generally is to try and get to SSS style rating in combat and sustain it for as long as possible or near enough (at least S or SS). I find the quickest way to get SSS rank right away is to use Aquila's Buy in move then hurricane to continuously slash multiple enemies at once for huge points, this is particularly effective against the common Stygians. High damaging attacks such as Trinity Smash, Overdrive, Stomp and Trillion Stabs all give out massive style points, especially if you hit multiple enemies at once. Just mix and match your attacks, there are plenty of combos and options to use, try not to repeat the same moves more than twice on the same enemy as it won't yield the best results. Note: If you take damage in a fight and don't want to lose your combo, simply quit to the main menu then select continue and it doesn't count as a death, this makes getting high scores a piece of cake.

Time: This quite obviously is how fast you complete the mission, after getting all collectibles and playing the game 2-3 times you should know exactly where to go in each mission, skip everything but the fights and you should get SSS in this category easily.

Collectibles: This category is based on how many collectibles you have found in the mission, once you have found everything you will automatically get SSS rank every time on that particular mission so you don't have to worry about this one.

  • During "Found", kill 10 enemies using the Hurricane ride

On mission 1, you will eventually come up to a large spinning ride and 10 enemies will spawn, simply strike them with the Rebellions hightime (don't hold circle down!) and if timed when it spins lower, the enemy will instantly die, you must kill all 10 this way so if you mess up you can try again by restarting checkpoint. See video from PowerPyx

  • Finish "Secret Ingredient" while killing all of the enemies during the descent

On mission 6, as soon as you start you will need to reach the end of the descent down the large sewer pipe in 2 minutes, you must kill all enemies you come across. This is very easy on Human or Devil Hunter as the enemies will die very quickly, make sure to kill all 10 enemies you see for the trophy. See video from PowerPyx

  • During "The Plan", kill all of the enemies before entering the tower

During Mission 16 near the beginning, you will come to the tower entrance and Kat will tell you to hurry up and get inside, you will have 30 seconds to do so. Before you go inside you must kill the few enemies that spawn, this is very easy just use powerful attacks with Arbiter or Eryx.

  • Slay 100 Demons as Dante

This will come naturally on your first playthrough by playing naturally.

  • Slay 1,000 Demons as Dante

This should unlock on your second playthrough by playing naturally.

  • Slay 2,500 Demons as Dante

Thankfully the requirement for this trophy has been lowered from 5000 demons on the PS3 version, this should unlock on your 3rd playthrough.

  • Spend 20,000 Red Orbs as Dante

For this trophy you must spend 20000 orbs as Dante. This will unlock as you work towards buying Health and Devil Crosses to max out Dante.

  • Upgrade Dante's health to maximum

To obtain every health upgrade you must complete all Secret Missions and purchase each Health Cross (6 of them) from the shop. See BuckaD's collectible videos above.

The price increase with each purchase is as follows:

    1000 orbs
    2000 orbs
    3500 orbs
    5000 orbs
    7500 orbs
    10000 orbs

  • Upgrade Dante's Devil Trigger to maximum

To obtain every Devil Trigger upgrade you must complete all Secret Missions and purchase each Devil Cross (3 of them) from the shop. See BuckaD's collectible videos above.

The price increase with each purchase is as follows:

    1000 orbs
    5000 orbs
    10000 orbs

  • Purchase all of Dante's combat upgrades

Dante has a grand total of 79 combat upgrades to buy from either the shop or a Divinity Statue. You earn ability points by killing demons/bosses and completing missions. You will not likely have all 79 purchased by the end of your 3rd playthrough. If you do not, you can farm Mission 20 on Nephilim until you have the total ability points needed.

Here is a video by HarryNinetyFour of all Secret Missions

  • Story related cannot be missed

During mission 1 of Vergil's Downfall you will come across a house. You will get attacked by a Wisp, it looks like an ethereal ghost like enemy with crows flying around it. Fire a summoned sword at it to make it vulnerable to attack.

  • Defeat an Imprisoner

    Story related cannot be missed

At the end of mission 4 you will fight a large beast known as an Imprisoner, these are the toughest enemies in Vergil's downfall. Use Atomic to launch them and Spiral Swords for heavy damage.

  • Complete Vergil's downfall

    Story related cannot be missed

Simply complete Vergil's downfall on any difficulty, this will unlock after completing mission 6.

  • Complete all missions (Nephilim or above) on Hardcore mode with Vergil

Hardcore on Vergil's downfall comes with the same drawbacks as with Dante. Vergil's Devil Trigger is heavily nerfed, Spiral Swords disappear much faster and Doppleganger drains much quicker. This is still easy enough on Nephilim or Son of Sparda.

  • Complete Vergil's downfall on Son of Sparda difficulty

As with Dante, Son of Sparda increases enemy damage and health, you also get hit with tougher enemy waves early on.

  • Complete Vergil's downfall on Vergil Must Die difficulty

The hardest difficulty for Vergil's Downfall just as with Dante, you will get hit harder, enemies will take a lot more punishment and will turn Devil Trigger if not dealt with swiftly. Make use of your Devil Trigger abilities in this mode as they are very powerful!

Utilize your experience and the same tips from Dante Must Die, and you will not have much trouble with this.

  • Be awarded a SSS rank on 5 different missions with Vergil

This is lot easier than with Dante. Do this on Devil Hunter and use Virgils Spiral swords and mix up Devil and Angel attacks frequently, you will get SSS with ease. If you cannot SSS Hollow Virgil, simply play the other 5 missions.

  • Kill 1000 enemies with Vergil

This may not unlock naturally for you after 3 playthroughs, if it doesn't, just rush through levels on Heaven or Hell, or alternatively, give the Bloody Palace a try, it won't take long to get this one.

  • Upgrade Vergil's health to maximum

For this trophy you must collect all Health Fragments littered throughout Vergil's Downfall and purchase a further 4 from the Shop, you can farm Hollow Vergil for almost 2k orbs every few minutes once you have all combat upgrades. See BuckaD's collectible videos above.

The price increase with each purchase is as follows:

    500 orbs
    1000 orbs
    2000 orbs
    3500 orbs

  • Upgrade Vergil's Devil Trigger to maximum

For this trophy you must collect all Health Fragments littered throughout Vergil's Downfall and purchase a further 4 from the Shop, you can farm Hollow Vergil for almost 2k orbs every few minutes once you have all combat upgrades. See BuckaD's collectible videos above.

The price increase with each purchase is as follows:

    500 orbs
    1000 orbs
    1500 orbs
    2000 orbs
    3500 orbs

  • Purchase all of Vergil's combat upgrades

For this trophy you must purchase all 34 of Vergil's combat upgrades. This doesn't take nearly as long as with Dante and should be unlocked during your Vergil Must Die playthrough, if it doesn't, simply farm Mission 5.

  • Free all of the Lost Souls in Vergil's story

For this trophy you must free all 20 lost souls in Vergil's Downfall, they have also been moved around in the Definitive Edition somewhat. See BuckaD's collectible videos above for the location of all souls in Vergil's Downfall.

  • Reach wave 50 on Bloody Palace with Dante

Attempt this trophy when you have completed Dante Must Die so you can use Super Dante. With infinite Devil Trigger it's not even remotely a challenge, just go to town and enjoy pounding wave after wave of demons and the trophy will unlock after you beat wave 50.

  • Reach wave 30 on Bloody Palace with Vergil

Same as with Dante, only attempt this when you completed Vergil Must Die so you can use Super Virgil, spam as many swords and Dopplegangers as you want and the trophy will soon be yours.

  • Complete a level without taking any damage

For this trophy simply load Mission 15 The Trade, you can skip the 2 small fights and just run for the end and not come within remote danger of taking damage, unless you somehow fall off somewhere. See video from PowerPyx

  • Gain a SSS Style Rank during combat

This will very likely occur naturally without you even trying. If you are struggling just mix loads of different moves together and don't get hit, this is a lot easier once you have all your weapons. A great way to really quickly rack up an SSS style rank is to use Aquila's Buy in move on a group of enemies then using Tornado. See I only take special jobs for more info.

  • Complete a mission with a SSS rank

This will come naturally when going for I only take special jobs, so refer to that description.
