Introduction

Deponia (or Welcome to Deponia) is the first game in the Deponia quadrilogy of point and click adventure games, developed by Daedelic Entertainment and originally released in 2012. It tells the story of Rufus, a loveable but reckless idiot who desperately wants to leave the junk planet of Deponia and ascend to the mysterious and prosperous sky city, Elysium. Wacky hijinks ensue as he stumbles across a fallen Elysian girl, Goal, and is drawn into a sinister plot. It is up to Rufus to save Deponia, the land he hates.

The Deponia series follows the old LucasArts mantra of adventure games: you can't mess it up. There are missable trophies, but you don't have to worry about accidentally putting yourself into an unwinnable state at any point. I highly suggest playing through the game blind, keeping an eye on missable trophies, but I have also written a trophy walkthrough HERE.


Walkthrough

Step 1: Play through Act I

Deponia does not have chapter select, but the game is separated in three distinct acts. Act I takes place in and around the town of Kuvaq. Do not skip any of the puzzles, or you will lock yourself out of trophies. When you first begin the game, choose to play the tutorial, or you will miss a trophy.

Step 2: Play through Act II

Act II takes place in the junk heap mines of Deponia and is the shortest act in the game. All of the missable trophies are based around the puzzles, so make sure not to skip any of them.

Step 3: Play through Act III

Act III has no puzzle-related trophies, so feel free to skip them. Thankfully, this means you can skip the annoying mosaic puzzle. All of the missable trophies can be done at any point before entering the rowboat (not the pirate ship) with Goal.

  • Complete every trophy of the game.

  • Learn the first steps.

    Story-related and cannot be missed. Complete the short tutorial at the beginning of the game and this trophy will unlock.

  • Good tooth care is important.

    Story-related and cannot be missed. Just after the tutorial section, Rufus will need to pack a suitcase. One of the items he needs is a toothbrush, but it slips through his grasp when he attempts to pick it up. After trapping the toothbrush with the baited mousetrap, this trophy will unlock.

  • Always keep an eye on your target.

    Missable!

    The first minigame puzzle involves lining up an aiming reticule with the blinking section of a track.

    Starting at the top right fork and moving clockwise, number them 1-6 (7 and 8 are blocked ones).
    Sequence: 6 / 1 / 6 / 1 / 6 / 4 / 1 / 6 / 1

    If you skip the puzzle, you will void the trophy, and must restart the game to unlock it.

  • A good demolition expert doesn't need a second try.

    Missable!

    In the Village Center area, in the alleyway, is a demolition map. You will need to place three magnets on three specific houses and start the demolition. This needs to be done to progress the story, but doing it correctly the first time is what unlocks this trophy.

    Notice the demolition map is laid out like a grid. Place magnets on A4 and A5 (the only two dots on the top row) and one on F6 (the far right spot on the bottom row). Ring the bell next to the map to start the demolition and unlock the trophy.

  • Did someone order an Espresso?

    Story-related and cannot be missed. You will need to collect several types of water, as well as ground coffee beans, and bring them to the Lonzo the bartender to get an Espresso and unlock this trophy.

  • What do you mean “not enough postage“?

    Missable!

    In the Kuvaq Town Hall Post Office, opening the two hatches will reveal a white cat and an orange cat. In your inventory, you should have a tranquilizer, vouchers, and the Espresso. Use the Espresso with the orange cat and the tranquilizer with the white cat. Give the vouchers to the postbot and watch the cutscene to unlock this trophy (then do the reverse to continue with the story).

  • I can sort my pigeons without your help.

    Missable!

    On the Platform area above the Post Office are several pigeons. In the Mayor's Office you'll find a magnetic field device that can be used to control them.

    Imagine this thing like a telephone keypad: 1-3 on the top row, 4-6 in the second row, 7-9 on the third, and a lonely 0 at the bottom. Sequence: 6 / 5 / 5 / 4 / 5 / 5 / 6 / 5 / 5 / 8. Back out of the puzzle to unlock the trophy.

    If you skip this puzzle, you will void the trophy, and must play through the game again to unlock it.

  • Finally made it out of Kuvaq.

    Story-related and cannot be missed. Will unlock when you escape Kuvaq with Goal and the Act II cutscene starts.

  • I can assemble that all on my own.

    Missable!

    In Act II, you will be tasked with assembling three different power inverters. You can talk to Doc to get hints on how to assemble them, but DON'T. I'm not entirely sure whether even having the hint option available negates the trophy. The solution is as follows:

    1. Use blue ring on left side of triangle;
    2. Use leftmost gear on right side of triangle;
    3. Use left cylinder on top of triangle;
    4. Use green ring on left of circle;
    5. Use middle cylinder on top of circle;
    6. Use rightmost gear on right of circle.
  • Lets see... what else could I invert?

    Missable!

    Early on in Act II, you will find that the crane has a dead fuse and needs to be replaced. Once you've assembled the three power inverters, go back to the crane and use any of them in the maintenance box to unlock this trophy.

    By the time you get back to the crane via natural gameplay, you'll still have one power inverter left, so it's okay if you don't do this right away.

  • Help? Just to adjust a few switches? Well, you can count me out!

    Missable!

    At the end of Act II, you'll have to fiddle with three switches and two levers in the Control Room to make a path to escape with Goal on the mine bike. The solution is as follows:

    1. Make sure the yellow and red levers are DOWN;
    2. Make sure the green lever is UP;
    3. Move left switch to green;
    4. Move right switch to red.

    Set off on the mine bike and the trophy will unlock. If you skip this puzzle, you will void the trophy and must restart the game to obtain it.

  • And so the journey continues...

    Story-related and cannot be missed. Will unlock once Rufus and Goal escape the mine area and Act III starts.

  • These levers just HAVE to make some sense.

    Missable!

    At the beginning of Act III, Rufus will find himself in a candy store. To the right of the cotton candy machine are three levers that don't do anything. Keep fiddling with them until the trophy unlocks (it takes around 15-20 times).

  • A true gourmet is not afraid to try something new!

    Missable!

    In the candy store at the beginning of Act III, there are three different candy machines with a total of five candies you must eat. When they are in your inventory, look at them and Rufus will eat them. They are as follows:

    • Anchovy on Stick
    • Neutral Cotton Candy
    • Calzone Cotton Candy
    • Phosphor Cotton Candy (make sure to get another one, as you'll need it for story progression)
    • Chewing Gum

    Once you've eaten all five items, the trophy will unlock.

  • Meet yourself.

    Missable!

    In the Concourse area of Act III is a stack of pebbles. Pick one up before you leave the area. A little later on, you will find yourself in the Tower area, with a green pool in front of you. Throw the pebble into the water and enjoy both the cutscene and your new trophy.

    If you missed the pebbles and are unable to pick them up later, this will also work with a piece of gum from the candy store.

  • Inform yourself explicitly about Deponia.

    Missable!

    In Act III, you will find three mosaics – one in the Lobby and two in the Concourse. In front of each is a hatch to put the glowing phosphor cotton candy (use the phosphor cotton candy with the lamp in the Concourse to make it glow). Once the mosaic is lit, have Rufus look at it to describe an event in Deponia history. Once you've looked at all three (one will need to be cleaned for story-progression), the trophy will unlock.

  • Say, Goal...

    Missable!

    Near the end of the game, you will be in a small boat with Goal rowing. Always choose the middle conversation option to unlock this trophy.

  • Story-related and cannot be missed. This trophy will unlock during the ending credits.
