Balance in all things Trophy in Darksiders III

    Upgrade 5 Enhancements to Balanced

How to unlock Balance in all things

    Potentially glitched

There are 12 enhancements in Darksiders III. You can choose to upgrade either the Angelic or Demonic route, which takes 12 of that artifact to reach the final upgrade. The final upgrade then takes 12 of the opposite artifact and an Essence of a Chosen to upgrade it to Balanced. In all, you need 60 Angelic artifacts, 60 Demonic artifacts and 5 Essence of a Chosen to obtain this trophy. Here are the artifacts and my recommendations:

    Azazel

    • Location: Depths – Forgotten Lake. Look for a purple block in the water and move it with the Force Hollow hammer. Drop down in the hole to find the Azazel Enhancement.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Passive wrath generation.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Attacks with slotted weapon generate more wrath.
    • Balanced Stats: 18 Wrath generated per minute / 25% more wrath generated per hit.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Wrath is already generated pretty fast, thus I wouldn't recommend upgrading this.

    Chaos

    • Location: Hollows – The Catacombs. During or after solving the three sword puzzle, you can locate a hidden alcove behind some pots before entering the puzzle room on the left-hand side. Destroy the pots and follow the linear path upwards using the Flame Hollow. After dropping back down, located a black skeleton with glowing eyes in the corner; the enhancement is behind him.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Havoc form lasts longer.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Life steal.
    • Balanced Stats: 50% longer havoc form duration / 6% life steal.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: This is a fantastic enhancement that I started to upgrade late game. Havoc mode is great for pushing that last part of a bosses health, or for clearing a large mob. I’d recommend upgrading the Angelic path for the passive duration during the game, then upgrading it to Balanced late in the game when your weapons are upgraded and dealing more damage.

    Enoch

    • Location: Hollows – The Catacombs. Take a left and look down at the edge for a tornado. Use the Storm Hollow to cross the gap, then follow the chain jumps to the right and you will locate the enhancement in the lava pit area.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Passive havoc generation.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increased damage when health is below 25%.
    • Balanced Stats: 18% havoc form generated per minute / 85% damage increase.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: I did not find the Enoch enhancement as useful as others. The damage increase is fantastic but it is high risk high reward. I would also chose a passive like increased health over havoc generation.

    Fafnir

    • Location: Bonelands – Festering Pool. After defeating Lust, you can return to the angel's home base and receive this upgrade from Usiel, provided you did not kill him during the Lust fight.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Melee damage deflection.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Damage increase per 3,000 souls carried.
    • Balanced Stats: 100% melee damage deflection / 1.5% damage increase.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Absolutely. Fafnir is one of the top 2-3 artifacts that you will want to get upgrade to Balanced as soon as possible. While the demonic route is pretty useless, the damage deflection is insane for melee enemies and bosses. It makes the final couple of fights trivial on Apocalyptic difficulty.

    Fortifier

    • Location: Haven – West End. This is one of the first artifacts you can find in the game. After proceeding towards the next area, you will eventually crawl through a small hole and end up outside. There is a sleeping ogre-like enemy to the left of a campfire; he is guarding the enhancement.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Increases health.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increased damage.
    • Balanced Stats: 20% increase in health, 20% increase in damage.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: I used this enhancement until I was able to pick up Juggernaut, then I didn't really bother with upgrading it. The passive 20% increase in health is pretty useful so if you’d like more health near the end game, try this one out as a passive.

    Fortune

    • Location: The Depths – Sewage Egress. Jump up the stasis wall near Vulgrim and you will spot the enhancement behind a poison spider enemy.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Increases potency of consumables.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Weapon kills provide more lurchers.
    • Balanced Stats: 30% increased potency / 30% more lurchers.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Not at all. This one is basically useless all around, because by the time you receive the Stasis Hollow needed to reach it, none of its upgrades are worth using.

    Juggernaut

    • Location: Nether – Tangled Grotto. When you reach the completely dark room, head towards to back and look for a train car raised up in the air. Crouch under the train car to find this enhancement tucked away behind two poison spider enemies.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Reduces physical damage received.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increases physical damage dealt with equipped weapon.
    • Balanced Stats: 25% damage reduction / 30% damage increase.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Absolutely, this is easily the best enhancement in the game. I recommend getting this as soon as possible and getting it to balanced immediately, as both upgrades are extremely useful for Apocalyptic.

    Leviathan

    • Location: Purchase from Vulgrim (5,000 souls).
    • Angelic Upgrades: Passive health regeneration.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Breaking environmental objects reward souls.
    • Balanced Stats: 96 health regenerated per minute / 20 souls per broken object.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: I was using this early on to squeeze out some extra souls but didn't upgrade it at all. I quickly replaced it mid-game and never needed to give it a second chance. I don't think the health regeneration and extra 15 souls are worth the 24 artifacts needed to balance it.

    Marauder

    • Location: Nether – Tangled Grotto. Follow the narrow path and branch to the right, looking out for a purple wall on the right-hand side. Smash this wall and drop down into the catacombs. Run past the skeletons and hang a left. You should find a lava pit if you went the correct way. Down in the pit, behind the tall fire enemy, is the enhancement.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Increased item drop chance.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increased chance at a health lurcher spawning.
    • Balanced Stats:30% item drop chance / 15% health lurcher spawn chance.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: I found items to be pretty useless in Apocalyptic, outside of Havoc Shards. The increase in health lurcher spawn chance is nice but not worth the upgrade in my opinion. If you've got nothing better at the moment, throw it on for the increase in health lurchers, otherwise don’t bother.

    Obscurus

    • Location: Bonelands – Hangman's Tree. Head outside and circle around the giant tree to find this enhancement.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Increased evade invincibility window.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Weapon generates more havoc.
    • Balanced Stats: 25% evade invincibility window / 20% more havoc generated.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Absolutely. This is another must have for Apocalyptic. Both stats are very good, especially the increased invincibility window. Slap this on something immediately and get it upgraded as soon as you can.

    Rage

    • Location: Purchase from Vulgrim (5,000 souls).
    • Angelic Upgrades: More wrath lurchers from equipped weapon kills.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increased chance of wrath lurchers from equipped weapon kills.
    • Balanced Stats: 50% more lurchers / 30% more chance for lurchers.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Wrath is already generated at a decent rate and neither of these abilities are passive so it's best to just leave this one in Vulgrim's inventory and focus on other enhancements.

    Shade

    • Location: Haven – Maker's Forge. Once you receive the Storm Hollow, backtrack across the chain to the rooftop and locate the hole in the next building. Follow this building's linear path until you see a large group of tornados. Float across them with the Storm Hollow and you will locate the Shade enhancement in the building you land in, across a chain jump.
    • Angelic Upgrades: Reduces arcane damage received.
    • Demonic Upgrades: Increases arcane damage.
    • Balanced Stats: 60% arcane damage reduction / 35% arcane damage dealt.
    • Recommended for Apocalyptic: Arcane damage has to do with your wrath and havoc forms. Almost every boss also does some form of arcane damage so the reduction will help a ton. I would definitely recommend upgrading this to balanced as soon as possible.

Here is a video guide of all 12 enhancement locations, with timestamps in the description:

On top of the enhancements, you will need five Essence of a Chosen to get this trophy. There are only six in the game but none of them are missable. Five are awarded by defeating hidden side bosses, while a sixth can be purchased from Vulgrim late game. Most of these bosses are pretty hidden so refer to this video guide to locate them:

  • As of patch 1.04, this can still be done across several saves. I had 4 enhancements at Balanced on my Apocalyptic build, and as soon as I got my first enhancement to Balanced on a new game, the trophy popped. Still, do not waste your Angelic or Demonic Artifacts, never sell them, and if you start on an enhancement, complete it all the way. It will save you time and trouble.
  • Seems like this trophy is glitched. I got 5 Balanced enhancements on my first save and got another one in a different file, but the trophy did not pop.... So no Platinum Trophy for me ????
  • Having multiples saves in this game can and will screw your trophy progression up. I got 5 balanced on my first save file and had to get another on my second save file before the trophy finally popped.
  • I do not agee with you comments on the game and how to use 12 enhancement. Some ones you didn,t like where very usefull for me. But the guide was good....
  • As of 1.10, some enhancements seems to have new stats: Enoch: +35% Damage when at full health +18% Havoc generated per minute Chaos: 6% Life steal +200% Havoc form duration Fafnir: +1% (up to 40%) damage increase per 3000 souls carried +100% Damage deflection Fortune: +50% More souls per weapon kills +45% Increased potency Marauder; +30% Health lurcher spawn chance +30% Item drop chance Obscurus: +50% More havoc generated +25% Evade invincibility window Shade: +35% Arcane damage dealt +35% Arcane damage reduction
