Introduction:

Chaos on Deponia is the second game in the Deponia quadrilogy of point and click adventure games. It continues the story of Rufus, who is still a reckless idiot who wants to leave Deponia, the planet he hates, in favor of the sky city of Elysium. Having saved Deponia in the first game, Rufus readies to hitch a ride to Elysium on Goal's escape pod – only to be thrown into another sinister plot, requiring him to save Deponia yet again.

Once again, this is another adventure game that you can't actually mess up. You can miss trophies but you can't put yourself in an unwinnable state, so feel free to explore to your heart's content. As it's a comedy adventure game, there's a lot of humor to be found by experimenting. If you just want to get trophies, I have written a walkthrough here: LINK.

While there are no glitched trophies, there are a few things you need to keep in mind while playing through:

  • You cannot unlock Pin-Up Goal and Cheater on the same save/config file. In my walkthrough, I have you backing up your save and config files prior to taking the first action that sets you on both trophies. If you're playing blind, then focus on earning Pin-Up Goal during your playthrough, then delete your save/config file, start a new playthrough and quickly unlock Cheater.

  • Unlike the first game, this one has several game-spanning trophies (notably Pin-Up Goal, Collecting Agent, Supercool and Animal Lover), so keep an eye on those.

  • The 'Huzzah' trophies are all story-related. However, the respective trophies won't unlock if you skip the cutscenes with the singer so be careful.

Walkthrough:

Note that although I'm breaking this up into Acts, there is no chapter select in the game.

Step 1: Play through Act I

Act I is kind of an extended tutorial. You must play through the actual tutorial and watch all of the beginning cutscenes or the first Huzzah trophy will not unlock. You don't have to worry about any of the game-spanning trophies here.

By the end of this step, you will have unlocked:

Huzzah – once more from the top
Blow job - MISSABLE
Huzah with booze and so forth

Step 2: Play through Act II

Act II is the longest one in the game. It takes place on the Floating Black Market. The game-spanning Supercool and Collection Agent must be started and unlocked here. You also will do the bulk of the game-spanning Pin-Up Goal and Animal lover during this act.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Lollipop or love?
Bloody nose - MISSABLE
With love from Porta Fisco - MISSABLE
All mine! - MISSABLE
Endurance test - MISSABLE
T-415411293 - MISSABLE
Deponia Idol - MISSABLE
Garden work - MISSABLE
Collecting agent - HIGHLY MISSABLE
What women want - MISSABLE
Shut up, Simon
Egg race - MISSABLE
Animal husbandry - MISSABLE
Supercool - HIGHLY MISSABLE
Family drama
Pre-paradox - MISSABLE
Huzzah put balls to the wall

Step 3: Play Act III

Act III involves Rufus and his crew flitting between four different islands. You will be finishing up the rest of the game-spanning trophies here.

By the end of this step, you will have unlocked:

Tease the dragon - MISSABLE
Freestyler - MISSABLE
A bond for life
Animal lover - HIGHLY MISSABLE
Captain Planet
Pin-up Goal - HIGHLY MISSABLE
Woooghieee - MISSABLE
Flipper out - MISSABLE
Huzzah we'll work overtime

Step 4: Play Act IV

The final act of the game has Rufus working behind the scenes of the fight between the Organon and the rebels. Once you've finished the game, put the controller down as there's a trophy that requires you to sit through the ending cutscenes and credits without skipping them.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Behind the mirror - MISSABLE
Not in the face! - MISSABLE
Huzzah let's hope far away
Thanks! - MISSABLE
Platinum Chalice

35 trophies ( 16  14  )

  • You unlocked all other trophies.

    Huzzah!

  • I didn't do anything?!

    Story-related but CAN be missed.

When you start a new game, you must play through the tutorial and watch all of the introductory cutscenes. Once you finally regain control of Rufus, this trophy will unlock. It will not unlock if you skipped the tutorial or the cutscenes.

  • Rube Goldberg can pack up and go home

    Story-related but CAN be missed.

After ejecting Cletus from the escape pod in Act I, make sure to watch the cutscene with the singer and you will unlock this trophy.

  • Actually, that would have been Toni's job...

In Act I, Rufus will need to blow dust off of a picture next to a button on the escape pod. Do this four times to unlock this trophy.

  • These foreign models are junk.

In Act II, you will see a gondola in the harbor area. If you kick the bumper, the gondola's airbag will explode and the gondolier will swim off to get another one. Make him do this ten times in total to unlock this trophy (you will need to exit and re-enter the screen to be able to do this again). You must do this before getting Bozo and Bambina back together.

  • Rake up another achievement!

In Act II, there is a rake in the Bellevue area. Simply step on it ten times for this trophy. You must do this before kicking the leaves off of the tree in Bellevue.

  • Set priorities

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

At the beginning of Act II, you will be put on a linear path to get this trophy. Talk to Doc in his workshop in Industrial Park, then enter the gadget shop in the dock area. Once you take the cartridges back to Doc in Industrial Park and the cutscenes play, you will unlock this trophy.

  • Omnomnom! Nomnomnomnomnomnom!

In Act II, there is a take out menu puzzle in Old Town. You must solve it without skipping it to unlock this trophy. There are a few ways to solve the puzzle but I think this is the fastest:

    • Menu 2
    • change 2 burgers to 1 burger (both must be selected for this option to appear)
    • change large burger to large drink
    • downsize both drinks to the smallest size (middle hotspot) – you should be at 1.5 now.
    • change both drinks to 2 burgers
    • change 2 burgers to 1 burger
    • change large burger to large drink
    • downsize large drink as much as you can so you're left with nothing
  • Training is for losers!

Story-related and cannot be missed (?)

In Act II, you must win a round of Platypus Bataka against Spunky Goal. Basically, pay attention to where Goal's hand is pointing – that's where she's going to attack and where you need to block. After you've successfully blocked, Goal will defend and you have a window to counter-attack – attack the area she's not blocking with her stick or arm. After getting Goal down to her final hit, she will come at you with 4-5 attacks in a row (you will not be able to counter-attack after any of them). Survive those and you'll be good to go.

Whenever you lose against Spunky Goal, you will be in front of a training dummy. Theoretically, you will void the trophy if you use this dummy (this was the case in the original PC version of the game) but I used it to level up twice and still unlocked the trophy so maybe it refers to fully maxing Rufus' combat level? To start the fight again, click the door in the background ("to the fight") to try again.

Goal's attack and defense patterns are randomized between fights but the video below will show you what she looks like in each of her attack and defense positions so you will know what to do.

  • Is it Easter already?

In Act II, in Bellevue, you will have to play a minigame to pick up the Earth Platypus egg. If you skip the minigame, you will void the trophy.

Click on the egg until the meerkat is somewhere on the edge of the grid – i.e. not in one of the four center holes. The meerkat moves like a knight on a chessboard – that is, he will move in an L shape from wherever he is. On the edges, this limits him to a maximum of three potential moves from any given position. In the corners, this limits him to two potential moves and one of the opposite corners (usually diagonal). Place the meerkat trap and two rocks on the potential exit holes to trap him and grab the egg.

  • No egg on your face

In Act II, at the Industrial Park, you will need to solve a pipe puzzle to gain possession of the Fire Platypus egg. If you skip the puzzle, you will void the trophy. The puzzle is actually very, very easy, even though it looks complex. Simply switch all of the pipes from their starting position once each and the egg will make its way to the exit point.

  • Story-related but CAN be missed.

After getting all three Goals to agree to return to Doc's workshop at the end of Act II, play through the rest of the act in Doc's workshop. There will be a lot of dialogue to get through before the singer will finally show back up. Make sure not to skip his cutscene, or you will void this trophy.

  • The Droggeljug searches for the supersinger

In Act II, the tavern jukebox has four music scores you can steal and give to the gondolier to sing. Ultimately, you only need him to sing "The Mating Song of the Junk Crabs". For this trophy, however, you need him to sing all four.

To steal one of the scores: pour sugar in the generator outside of the tavern. Enter the tavern and use the screwdriver on the jukebox flap. Pick up the sheet music (the default is "Dead Pigeon Tango"). Go back outside and place the sheet music on the gondolier's music stand.

To get him to sing the song: Go to the weapons shop and convince Bozo to talk to Bambina. During the cutscene of them talking/fighting, the gondolier will show up and start singing whatever song is on the sheet music in front of him.

Go back to the tavern and use the jukebox to change the music selection. Exit outside to the generator and start the process all over again.

I can confirm that 1) the time the gondolier needs to sing The Mating Song of the Junk Crabs for story-reasons counts for the trophy and 2) you can safely skip the cutscene of him singing.

  • Survive the interview

In Act II, you will meet Donna in her submarine, where she has Rufus teetering on the edge of being shark food. As this is a comedy adventure game, it doesn't matter if Rufus is fed to the sharks but for the purposes of this trophy, you cannot let him be. When given the option, choose the following dialogue options: What did she say? / That I'll be made into shark food? / Go ahead.

  • Make a fool of yourself

This is a three-part trophy that spans Act II. You must do the following:

    • Play fetch with Clever-Byte three times.
    • In the tavern, when talking to Spunky Goal, say when you can: What do I have to do to get you to come with me? Rufus will sing a stupid song...twice.
    • When speaking with Crane in Bellevue, choose any of the poetry options (except for the platypus one).
  • I'll be back!

In the Dark Alley in Act II, you may see a glowing pair of eyes in the trash heap on the right side of the screen. Repair the broken Indestructible Sunglasses (make sure the lens is in the left frame) and use the glasses with the eyes in the trash heap. The trophy will unlock after the cutscene.

  • Back to the future

Near the end of Act II, make sure to exit Doc's office via the portal instead of the door and you will unlock this trophy after a short cutscene.

  • Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father!

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

In Act II, Seagull will crash Rufus' romantic dinner and take Lady Goal on a date in Old Town. Once Rufus discovers his father's treachery, go to Old Town and listen to Lady Goal and Seagull's conversation. The trophy will unlock when you regain control of Rufus.

  • Catch 'em all!

One of the major parts of Act II, requires finding and hatching the eggs of four elemental platypuses. For this trophy, you will need to keep all four platypuses in your inventory at the same time i.e. hatch the eggs but don't return the platypuses to their nests.

To be able to pick up and hatch the eggs, you must first get the field guide from the Platypus Trapper in Old Town and read it (click on all the pictures in the guide so Rufus comments on them). To get it, get a fortune cookie from the take out place (All mine!), then give the fortune cookie to the fisherman at the dock. The fisherman will give you an ID card. Give the ID card to the Platypus Trapper.

    To find the platypuses:

    • Earth Platypus: The egg is in Bellevue. Put it in a bucket of dirt, then freeze it in the freezer in Doc's office. Use the spade to free it from the ice. The nest is next to where you found the egg in Bellevue.

    • Water Platypus: The egg is in the harbor, under the ramp that leads to the gondola. Get the required zebrafish by getting the fisherman to catch you a fish, then take that fish to Doc's workshop and paint it. Put the egg in the fish's mouth, then revive the fish with the electrodes in the lock just past Doc's workshop. The fish will die if you go 2-3 screens without putting it in water (and you want this to happen once for Animal lover) so make sure whenever Rufus mentions that the fish is twitching, to put the zebrafish in water in your inventory. Walk (don't warp or the fish will die) to Seagull's house in Bellevue and put the fish in the fishtank. The nest is on top of a pole in the harbor.

    • Fire Platypus: The egg is in the chimney above Doc's workshop in Industrial Park. Put coal and fire into the furnace to get the egg to the top of the chimney. When you pick up the egg, you will have to solve a pipe puzzle (Egg race). The egg will fall into the furnace and hatch. The nest is right next to the furnace.

    • Flying Platypus: The egg is in Old Town. The alleyway between the Platypus Trapper and the take out place will take you to one of the windows. Use a crank with the crank box and turn the crank to bring the sock across the screen so you can reach the egg. To hatch it, you must take the egg to the crow's nest above Seagull's house and put it in the windsock (using a combination of the urn, hook and thread and portable vacuum cleaner to give it the proper tautness). Cut the windsock with the razorfish to hatch the Platypus. Use bread with the birdhouse in Bellevue to bring it to ground level, then catch it with the landing net (windsock + antenna). The nest is in front of the Platypus Trapper in Old Town.
  • Expert in platypus poetry

In Act II, next to the Platypus Trapper in Old Town are greeting cards. Look at them 4-5 times. Rufus will read them aloud and you will unlock this trophy.

  • Force your luck

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

In Act III, Rufus and Baby Goal can visit a seer. Once you both sit down with him, choose the following dialogue options: How do I prevent Goal from marrying Cletus? / What does our future together look like? / This is all humbug. You're holding the ball upside down.

At this point, you'll have the option to access your inventory. Use the remote on Baby Goal to access Spunky Goal. At that point, keep talking to the seer about the lottery until Spunky Goal snaps and attacks him. The trophy will unlock when you regain control of Rufus outside of the seer's tent.

  • I thought you couldn't die here?

In Act III, Rufus will meet up with the rebels in their new hideout and find out that his ex-girlfriend Toni counts herself as one of their number. It is Rufus' sworn duty to be a terrible person to her. Do so by choosing the following dialogue options: The dolphin pool needs to be cleaned again, recruit. / By the way, I want my coffee black for the meeting, recruit. / Drop and give me twenty, recruit.

When you reach the King's Quest-esque death screen, press to get back to the game. New Game really does start a new game, which would be disastrous if you haven't been making manual saves.

  • … and Fay wept quietly

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

In Act III, you must do two things, both required for story progression. You must set fire to the tires in the street canyon in Porta Fisco and siphon gas from the diesel generator on Isla Watchit.

  • Hunt for the Red October

In Act III, you must play a radar minigame involving three dolphins with torpedoes stuck to their bodies chasing a submarine. If you skip the minigame, you will void the trophy.

This puzzle is randomized (though the starting positions are always the same). The gist of it, is that you need to get one of the dolphins on top of the submarine. The arrows at the bottom control your dolphins – each dolphin gets a move (you can't control the order) then the submarine will move. The general rule is to keep your dolphins facing the submarine as much as possible – the submarine won't approach a dolphin that is facing it. Try to get the submarine into the bottom left area as that has a straight wall you can work with to trap the sub against and use the dolphins in a pincer attack. I also did this fairly quickly with the submarine in the top left area. Eventually you'll be successful. If you mess up, you can hit the red button in the top left to reset the starting positions.

The trophy will unlock when you finally regain control of Rufus.

  • Swimming certificate earned

    Story-related but CAN be missed.

At the end of Act III, Rufus will need to access an underwater hatch. When he finally does, a few cutscenes will play. If you skip the cutscene with the singer, this trophy will not unlock.

  • Did you see that?

In Act II, Rufus will find a broken transmitter at the radio tower on Isla Watchit. Take it to Doc in the Cutter to have him repair it. Use the repaired transmitter on the Cutter's radar. Watch the cutscene and the trophy will unlock. You must do this before using the repaired transmitter on the radio tower on Isla Watchit.

  • Prove your street cred

In Act II, in the Porta Fisco Quay, talk to the Goon guarding the entrance to the sewers leading to the rebel's hideout. Say "We could practice a little freestyling" to unlock this trophy.

  • Thank you, sir, may I have another?

Near the end of the game, Rufus and Cletus will be fighting. As soon as the fight starts, punch Cletus in the face ten times to unlock this trophy. Punches to Cletus' face that give Rufus the upper hand, don't seem to count towards this trophy so just do it all at once at the beginning of the fight.

  • Story-related but CAN be missed.

After fighting with Cletus and admitting your wrongdoings to Goal, put the controller down and just let the game play out the ending.

  • An alternative ending to another game

The bulk of Act IV is a transporter puzzle. Ultimately, you want to get Rufus to the right-most transporter in the room where the rebels are fighting. When you finally get to that transporter (you will emerge from it), walk back into it to be transported to the alternate ending for The Whispered World. The trophy will unlock when you regain control of Rufus.

  • No animals were harmed in the making of this game!

This is a three-part trophy that spans Act II and Act III. You must do the following actions:

    • Act II – Tavern – talk to Baby Goal and say Hey Baby / What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this? - Rufus will cripple a bug
    • Act II – Doc's Workshop – bring the zebrafish with egg back to life, then walk 3-4 screens without putting it in water to let it die again.
    • Act III – Rebel Hideout – turn the dolphins in the wading pool into cans of tuna (story-related, cannot be missed)
  • I see what you did there...

See Pin-up Goal for a description of the pin-up parts. For this trophy, you need to pick up the SAME pin-up part twelve times.

To unlock this trophy with minimal fuss/replaying, save the game when you finally regain control of Rufus on the Cutter after the opening cutscenes. Quit the game and back up both the save and the config file onto a USB drive or the PS+ cloud. Launch the game and pick up the pin-up part. Press start/options, load the save, and pick up the piece again. Repeat until the trophy unlocks. You can check your progress by checking Bonus – Puzzle – each time you pick up a piece and reload the save, another puzzle piece will be unlocked.

Once you've unlocked this trophy, quit the game and download your backup save and config file, overwriting the ones on your system. To double-check that you will be able to earn Pin-up Goal, check Bonus – Puzzle from the main menu – the puzzle pieces should all be blank.

  • I only read it for the articles

Pin-up parts are well camouflaged pieces of generic background artwork that don't show up as interactible objects when you click but they do show up as interactible when you're near one (unlike the original PC version of the game). When you pick them up, you will hear a short chord and a ding. They don't show up in your inventory once you've collected them, but in the Bonus – Puzzle area of the main menu.

There are eight to find in the Floating Market in Act II, and the final four are in Act III. They can be collected out of order but note that they must be collected in their respective acts, even though you will be revisiting some of these areas in later acts. Their locations:

    • Act II – Inside the Cutter – Right of the radar, in the window
    • Act II – Doc's Workshop – On a top shelf near Clever-Byte, next to a robot head
    • Act II – Doc's Office – on the corkboard next to the desk, above where you found the screwdriver
    • Act II – Tavern – under a bottle near Goal
    • Act II – Marketplace – on an orange countertop at the stall between the exit to the Dark Alley and the exit to Bellevue
    • Act II – Old Town – one of the bottle labels on the table. You cannot pick this up if Lady Goal and Seagull are on their date, so make sure to pick it up before that.
    • Act II – Gadget Shop – On the ! Box above the banana straightener
    • Act II – Rebel Hideout – near Leibold, in the bottom left of the screen. Look for a red arrow on the ground – the part is at the base of the arrow.
    • Act III – Porta Fisco Quay – in a box behind a man lying down (the box behind where you find the power inverter)
    • Act III – Seer's Tent – bottom left of the screen, under the trash can
    • Act III – Isla Watchit - This one's really hard to explain in terms of where to look. Just walk slowly up the ramp towards the radio tower and the hotspot on the right should activate.
    • Act III – Isla Watchit Radio Tower – on the tower, to the left of a picture of the tower
  • Was that our 15 minutes of fame?

    Story-related but CAN be missed.

When you finish the game, just put the controller down and let the credits roll. When you get back to the main menu, the trophy will unlock.

  • Collecting agent

    HIGHLY MISSABLE

For this trophy, you need to have 26 items in your inventory at the same time. This must be done in Act II, as it's the only part of the game where you can have a bloated inventory. I recommend just following my walkthrough for this one: LINK. If you need to do a second playthrough, then mishalunchbox has written a speedrun that's specifically for this trophy: LINK.
