Call of Cthulhu is a story-driven game developed by Cyanide and inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's short story "The Call of Cthulhu" and the 1981 RPG of the same title.

There are 14 Chapters and 4 different endings, 2 playthroughs are needed to unlock all of them. There are no chapters selection but you can still back up your save after each chapter, and as the choices you make until completion of Chapter 9 don't matter for the endings, you can back-up your save after completing chapter 9 and reload from here for the second playthrough.

The trophies are mostly story related but there are a few collectibles and missable trophies, make sure to keep an eye on the guide and/or the walkthrough HERE to not miss any of them.

Step 1: Chapter 1 to Chapter 9 + collectibles/missable trophies

The first thing you want to do is to complete Chapters 1 to 9, making sure to get all collectibles and missable trophies on your way as there is no chapter select and everything you miss would require a new playthrough. The choices you make here won’t matter for the endings so you’ll only have to replay from Chapter 10 to unlock them all.

I recommend following videos/walkthrough for the collectibles and keep an eye on the missables listed below in order.

In this step, you will unlock:

Missables (in order):

More sober than Zadok Allen (actually won't pop here, but need to not drink during the whole game)
Detective Edward Pierce
Ex Oblivione
No prohibition for Darkwater
The delusional investigator
A brilliant mind
Sandman
Shared guilt
(actually won't pop here, but starts at Chapter 6)
The Thing on the Doorstep
Hippocratic Oath
The White Ship
Scholar of the unspeakable

Collectibles: (won't pop all here but need to be looked at from the beginning of the game)

Jack of all trades
Beyond reality
Strange secrets
Complete revelation
The most trivial object
John Raymond Legrasse
Detective historian
The Shadow Out of Time
Fluent in R’lyehian

Story related (in order):

The Sarah Hawkins case
The Strange High House
The Terrible Old Man
Memory
The Secret Cave
The pit of horror
The Temple
The aficionado of horror
From Beyond
The Book
Caught in the trap
The curse of Sarah
The amulet of the Ancients

Step 2: Back-up your save and get the first 3 endings

After completing Chapter 9, make sure to back up your save on the cloud or a USB device, this way you’ll only have to replay from Chapter 10 to unlock all endings, instead of doing another full playthrough. The choices you make from now on will unlock different dialogues at the end of the game, and following the steps listed under The Call of Cthulhu will unlock the first 3 endings.

You’ll be able to reload your last save after getting an ending, so you can actually get these 3 by simply replaying the last checkpoint.

In this step, you will unlock:

Missables (in order):

The dreamlike investigation
Companion in arms
The Rats in the Walls
The Abomination of Darkwater
The Good Samaritan
Voyage into history
The Call of Cthulhu
Fight destiny
Nameless Cults

Story related (in order):

The Outsider
Attack the docks
In the footsteps of Daniel Upton
The Beast in the Cave
The voice beyond the grave

Step 3: Reload your save and get the last ending

You should only miss one trophy if you’ve done everything correctly, reload your back-up save and replay from Chapter 10 to the end, making sure to make the choices listed under Farewell , and you should unlock the last ending.

In this step, you will unlock:

Farewell
Professor of Arkham University

50 trophies ( 14  34  11  )

  • Unlock all trophies

Earn all the other trophies to solve the mistery of Darkwater Island, or maybe not but at least you’ll get a nice and new platinum!

  • Reach the level of Expert in a skill

You’ll reach the Expert level in any skill after reaching ? (70%) efficiency. You can get this trophy the very first time the game introduces the Skill system, by spending all your 8 first points into the same category.

It’s recommended to spend your points on Spot Hidden first, as a high level in this skill is required to find hidden objects to pick up for John Raymond Legrasse .

  • Find 20 hidden items

    Missable!

There are at least 26 hidden items through the game but only 20 are needed to get this trophy. When entering some areas on the game, you’ll see a “?” icon on the bottom of your screen, which means this area contains one or more hidden items. To make these items show up, you’ll need a high level of Spot Hidden, otherwise there’s a chance they might not appear, which is why you want to focus on that skill when you earn skill points.

The items will appear on green and you’ll need to interact with/pick them up for it to count.

Once you’ve picked up all the hidden items in an area, the “?” will be replaced by an green arrow, so you know you can move on.

  • Inspect 50 items

Pretty much unmissable, interact with/inspect/pick up 50 different items to receive this trophy. You’ll probably inspect more than 50 items while going for the platinum anyway, but make sure to inspect everything you see, unless it’s a bottle or a glass, in this case don’t touch them as drinking alcohol will void More sober than Zadok Allen .

  • Fail a skill test

I got this trophy at the end of the first chapter when you need to interact with the painting in your office. You need to hold to do so, and a simple tap on would “fail” the challenge, unlocking the trophy.

If it doesn’t work for you, you can get this very early on Chapter 2, go interact with the dead whale and as you won’t have enough skills to find out the cause of its death, you’ll earn the trophy.

  • Discover all the small blue bottles

    Missable!

There are 7 small blue bottles of sleeping pills that you need to find. Some of them will require you to perform reconstructions to make them appear so make sure to watch a video or follow a walkthrough to not miss them.

Here’s an all-in-one video that will show you the location of all collectibles (not hidden items or occult items though)

  • Piece together Margaret Wyckwood's memoirs

    Missable!

There are 5 memoirs to collect in order to get this trophy.

  • Discover all the murals of the disappeared tribe

    Missable!

There are 3 murals that you need to inspect to get this trophy.

  • Find occult items

    Missable!

You need a total of 15 occult items to unlock this trophy and it is possible that more of them can be picked up through the game, but to make sure to not miss any, follow a video or a walkthrough.

  • Missable!

Drinking alcohol, or ordering a drink will void this trophy and as the game tends to autosave every now and then, you’ll need to be careful with what you inspect while playing.

The trophy will unlock after completion of Chapter 9 as after this point, there is no more alcohol to drink.

  • Accept to read an unholy book

    Missable.

    Please refer to Complete revelation

  • Read all the books of unholy knowledge

    Missable.

There are 3 unholy books to read in order to get this trophy, reading one for the first time will also net you another trophy.

Check this video (Credits to The Hidden Object Guru)

Or refer to The most trivial object for an all-in-one video.

  • Accept the Sarah Hawkins case

Story related and cannot be missed.

You will get this trophy after completing Chapter 1, and accepting to work on the case.

  • Be the plaything of an hallucination

    Missable!

You can get this trophy during Chapter 2 when you’re tasked to enter the warehouse. There are 2 ways to enter it, you can distract the guards on the left by giving alcohol to the drunk sailors or going to the ride side of the area and passing a Strength test to open a gate. Feel free to distract the guards for another trophy, but don’t enter the warehouse this way, instead go pass the Strength test.

First you will need to find 3 hidden items in this room, they count for another trophy as well. Once you find them, climb up the ladder and place them (lever, wheel, ratchet in this order) and then you’ll be able to interact with the crank to open the gate.

You can fail this part, and the game will autosave as soon as you fail and it will void this trophy, so make sure to quit to the main menu immediately if you see your character struggling to open the gate! The gate should open right away after interacting with the crank, if not you’ll need to quit and try again. This is tied to your Strength skill level, this is why it can fail.

  • Get driven to the Hawkins Mansion

Story related and cannot be missed.

You’ll get this trophy after completion of chapter 2. After entering the warehouse, you’ll need to perform a reconstruction scene, interact with a few things and then leave the warehouse.

  • Convince the caretaker to help you

Story related and cannot be missed.

At the beginning of Chapter 3, you’ll encounter a creepy old man that threatens you, and you’ll need to convince him to let you pass. Fortunately, dialogues don’t seem to matter and he will always help you. Worst case scenario being him killing you, and you’d have to try again so this isn’t missable anyway.

  • Explore the memories of the Hawkins family

Story related and cannot be missed.

During Chapter 3, you’ll have to perform a few reconstructions scenes. The one in the child’s room will require you to inspect a few objects and this will net you the trophy. This is required to move forward with the story so this is unmissable.

  • Discover the mansion’s secret passage

Story related and cannot be missed.

After chasing the thief at the end of Chapter 3, you’ll be required to open a secret passage. There are 2 ways to open it, but one of them will also net you A brilliant mind so make sure to refer to it.

  • Use the globe to open the secret passage

    Missable!

At the end of Chapter 3, you’ll need to open a secret passage. You can force open the door with a Strength skill but instead, this trophy will require you to interact with the globe on the right side of the room, point the compass on the globe and interact with it to open the passage.

  • Fall into the sacrificial pit

Story related and cannot be missed.

During Chapter 4, you’ll eventually make your way through some caves and find an altar, with a picture of your character on it. Interacting with it will activate a cutscene and you’ll get the trophy soon after.

  • Take part in the ritual in the caves

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Chapter 4, you’ll see some cultists in the caves, you’ll need to sneak your way out of the caves but you’ll eventually activate a cutscene and unlock this trophy. After that you’ll need to run and avoid a few obstacles to finish the chapter.

  • Make a deal with a crazed inmate

    Missable.

During Chapter 5, you’ll eventually be in some kind of prison with a few guides in this area that you need to avoid. On the right path you’ll be able to talk to a prisoner on his cell and he will ask you to give him a bottle of sleeping pills. This bottle will count for the trophy related to collecting them all, and will only appear after talking to this guy. It is located in the pharmacy, on the right path of this area. After collecting it, go and give him them to unlock the trophy.

  • Push Irene Sanders to the limit

    Missable!

This trophy requires you to perform actions in Chapter 6 and Chapter 8, and it will then pop in Chapter 10.

In Chapter 6, you’ll eventually encounter Irene and will be able to talk to her. Make sure to choose “he died screaming” and “it wasn’t me who sent him there” when talking to her.
After that, go behind her and pick up a cylinder on the desk and play it on the gramophone.

In Chapter 8, you’ll play as another character in a hospital, and in the middle of the area you will find Irene’s body. Interact with her body and with the chart at the bottom of the bed.

Finally, the trophy will unlock at the beginning of Chapter 10, during a conversation, as long as you followed these steps beforehand.

  • Banish the Dimensional Shambler

Story related and cannot be missed.

Please refer to The Thing on the Doorstep .

  • Banish the Dimensional Shambler using only one dagger

    Missable!

At the end of chapter 6, you’ll inspect a painting and the Sambler will appear on this room and you will have to cut the painting with a certain dagger to proceed. Only one dagger will actually cut the painting, but many daggers can be picked up. For this trophy, you need to pick up the right dagger on the first try.

Starting from the painting and facing away, the dagger you want to use is located on the right room, on the bottom right corner of the room. Your character will say this dagger looks special or something along this line, so you know it’s the right one. If you pick up another dagger, go right to the Shambler so it kills you and you can retry.

  • Meet Algernon Drake and accept his help

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Chapter 7 you’ll be in a library and will have to perform a reconstruction to eventually find a safe that you need to open. You’ll have to read a book during that reconstruction and this will unlock the trophy.

If you struggle to find the code to open the safe, it’s:
    5-3-9.

  • Learn the secret of the Scylla

    Missable.

Once you enter Fuller’s office in Chapter 8, you’ll see a white ship on the other side. Go interact with it and its mats. Your goal is to make them all facing forward, this will open a drawer and unlock the trophy.

One possible way to unlock the drawer is:
    (1 to 3, counting the mats from left to right): 2, 2, 1, 3, 1, 3, 3, 2, 1,3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2

You can find one on the first locked shack on the pier or at the bar. Once you get it, go talk to the sailors again and give them the bottle and they’ll eventually distract the guards.

  • Banish the creature for good

Story related and cannot be missed.

Please refer to Companion in arms .

  • Save Drake's life during the fight with the creature

    Missable.

At the end of Chapter 10, you’ll be in some caves with Drake and will need to interact with a few circle barriers of light. After interacting with the third one and luring the Shambler to Drake, you’ll need to interact with the painting to banish the Shambler. Make sure to hold when the Shambler is attracted to the painting, this way you’ll also save Drake.

  • Escape your fallen territory

Story related and cannot be missed.
