Introduction:
Caladrius Blaze is a top-down vertical scrolling shooter originally released for the XBox 360, then ported to arcades, and finally to the PS3. A year after the PS3 version was released in Japan (the only way to obtain a copy being to import one), the PS4 version was released worldwide and with English text!
The game features voluptuous women (and those two guys - not so voluptuous) who pilot giant mechs in bullet hell combat. As you or bosses take hits (under certain circumstances), the characters' clothes tear and fly off. There is no really explicit nudity, but the game IS rated 18+, so be aware of that. All-in-all, it's an enjoyable and accessible shmup, even for non Japanese speakers/readers. The menus are mostly in English, so it's not difficult to get through.
Terminology:
In the guide I use some terms that you may not be familiar with if you don't play a lot of shoot-em-ups, so here's a quick reference:
- Shmup: Shoot-em-up (the genre of the game)
- 1LC: 1 Life Clear (beat the game without losing any lives)
- 1CC: 1 Credit Clear (beat the game without using a Continue)
- Continue: When you get a Game Over, you are given the option to Continue
- NSFW: Not Safe For Work (this game features semi-nudity, and may not be appropriate depending on where you are)
Walkthrough:
NSFW Warning: This guide, while primarily text, does feature multiple videos of the game, and as such, contains content rated Cero D (17+) in Japan. Be aware before clicking any of the videos in this guide, because all of them feature content which may be deemed inappropriate depending on your location.
Step 1: Beat Story Mode on Very Easy with every character on Evolution Mode, dying and continuing at least once each time, and using every level of each character's special attacks at least once
The first thing you'll want to do is to beat the game on Very Easy (or higher) difficulty with each of the eight available characters. This step will get you the unmissable trophies, and you will likely earn some of the miscellaneous trophies naturally along the way. This step serves to introduce you to each character and get you used to the gameplay in general.
You want to get this step out of the way on Evolution Mode, so you will be able to earn enough Ether Chips in order to upgrade your special attacks to the maximum, one level at a time, so you can earn ???????? [Great Alchemist] on the way. Refer to that trophy in the guide below for more information.
You can die and Continue as much as is necessary in this step. I actually SUGGEST that you die and continue at least once during each playthrough, to make the next step, Boss Rush Mode, easier. If you 1CC the 5 stages, you will have to also do Stage 6, and you want to save that for later.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
????? [The Way to Go]
(on PS3)
-
????? [Trembling Earth]
-
????? [Pouring Thunder]
-
????? [Darkness Abyss]
-
???? [Madness Forest]
-
?????? [Dominated Sky]
-
???? [Fallen Light]
-
????? [Crimson Knight]
-
????? [Storming Alchemist]
-
????? [Salvation Saintess]
-
?????? [Loved and Hated Pupil]
-
????? [Grudge in Abyss]
-
????? [Blessing Divine Bird]
-
????? [Tree Hero]
-
????? [Glowing Lady]
-
???? [Force Enhancement]
-
???????? [Great Alchemist]
Step 2: Boss Rush Mode on Easy
Now that you have the game beaten with every character, you can customize your ship when you play Boss Rush Mode with whatever weapons you like. If you followed the directions in Step 1 and didn't beat Stage 6 at all, then you will be able to beat Boss Rush Mode without having to face the Stage 6 boss.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
?????????? [Tested Hero]
Step 3: No-miss (1 Life Clear) Evolution Mode on Easy
Despite having the most levels overall, Evolution Mode is the most balanced, and the easiest to beat. You need to complete this step on at least Easy difficulty, and can't use "No Damage". Refer to the guide below for tips and videos to help you out.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
????? [Tightly Grasped Glory]
-
??????? [Despair from Underworld]
Step 4: Reach 80,000,000 points in a single playthrough
This will be easy to obtain, but you will definitely have to put some focus into it. Play in Evolution Mode on Practice Difficulty with a custom setup, and only use your special attacks in order to increase your multiplier and maximize your score.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
????? [Small Signpost]
-
????? [Radiant Signpost]
-
?????? [Far Signpost]
Step 5: Collect all of the Sol Towers and Ether Chips in a single playthrough
Once again, you can obtain these trophies on Practice Difficulty. Note that you MUST be playing in Evolution Mode. Refer to the guide below for a text and video guide to these collectibles.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
?????? [Soul Seeker]
-
????? [Replenish Life]
-
?????? [Revealed Treasure]
Step 6: Cleanup
It's time to grind out Ether Chips and Gallery images, while knocking out the rest of the miscellaneous trophies. You will have earned the majority of these along the way, but if you are missing any now is the time to home in on the ones you still need. Save the gallery and Ether Chips for last, as going for the other trophies will aid your progress towards those two trophies.
The majority of the remaining trophies can be obtained on Practice Difficulty, which makes enemies not shoot any bullets at all, so the rest of the trophies should come pretty easily, though some may take some time.
Upon completion of this step you will have earned the following:
-
????? [Untrained March]
-
????? [Poor Escape]
-
?????? [Princess' Conduct]
-
?????? [Inquirer' Clothing]
-
????? [Songstress' Costume]
-
????? [Girl's Dress]
-
?????? [Noble's Uniform]
-
???? [King's Robes]
-
?????? [Member's Private Clothes]
-
??????? [Knight's Shame]
-
????? [Sorcerer's Humiliation]
-
??????? [Saintess' Hesitation]
-
??????? [Pupil's Costume]
-
??????? [Grudge's Costume Appearance]
-
????? [Divine Bird's Feather]
-
????? [Brave One's Glow]
-
????? [Loyal Man's Depresssion]
-
???? [Art Appreciation]
-

-

-
??????? [Raging Waves]

??? [Crash King]
-
????? [Grotesque Beauty]
-
??????????? [Fly Caladrius!]
