Road Map

Overview

  • Estimate difficulty: 6/10. This the current rating in the difficulty thread. I would say that the "I Will Survive" trophy is a solid 7/10 in terms of difficulty, but the remaining ones are more of a 3/10 or 4/10.
  • Estimated time to platinum: 10-20 hours. This depends heavily on skill and a little bit on luck.
  • Minimum number of play-throughs needed: 1 1/3 in story mode and a bunch of galleries.
  • Trophy breakdown: 20 (5 , 6 , 8 , 1 ).
    • Offline: All.
    • Online: None.
  • Missable trophies: None.
  • Glitched trophies: None.
  • Does difficulty affect trophies? Sort of. The extra 1/3 needed in story mode must be played on on hard difficulty. This is relevant for the "Gallery Lover" trophy. See it for more details.
  • Do cheats disable trophies? Not applicable.
  • Special hardware required for platinum? No.

Introduction:

Welcome to Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011. This game is broken up into two game modes: Gallery and Story. Gallery mode is an arcade style "on rails" shooting mode, while Story mode is more of a first person shooter. In either mode, you will be shooting at lions and wolves and bears. (Oh, my!) Despite some preposterous situations, I found the game-play pretty enjoyable and the story surprisingly entertaining. The controls were fairly tight and responsive, so no complaints there either.

Speaking of controls, this guide was written for the standard dual shock controller, but it's worth noting that this game supports the PS Move and a peripheral made by Activision called the Top Shot Elite. Even though the guide was written for the dual shock, it should be very easily adapted for the other two control schemes. The vast majority of this game trophywise is straight-forward and pretty easy. A few galleries may try your patience, but continual practice should ultimately allow you to persevere.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete Story mode collecting all of the collectibles and getting all the story mode trophies along the way. During this step, you will unlock the bulk of the trophies for the game. You should be aiming to unlock the following trophies, in the following order:

Steady Hand, Great Scope
Defuser
Grizzly Defeat
I See You
I Like Spicy Wings
What Does Indy Hate?
Bow In Front Of Me
Rhino Defeat
Hair Away from Death
Hidden Pages
Collector's Edition
Kaftar Defeat
Adventure Over

I am 99% sure that the above order is the order in which the trophies can first be unlocked.

I have compiled a comprehensive (revised) edition of the various collectible guides originally posted in the forum. It also contains some linked youtube video guides. Follow these resources carefully and you shouldn’t have to replay any levels for missed collectibles. Here is the link: Story Mode Collectibles. Remember to set your Hunter Sense to Classic in the option menu at the title screen. Among other things, this will make collecting the collectibles a lot easier.

The only trophy that I found that you will want to spread over out during the story mode is “Hair Away From Death". It requires that you nearly die 20 times. See that trophy's specific guide for more details.

Nevertheless, don't worry if you miss a collectible or don't get a trophy when I indicate. You can always go back and pick up any missed collectibles or unlock any of the missed story trophies via level select.

Step 2: Unlock and complete all of the Shooting Gallery Classic levels in Gallery mode with bronze medals or better. Here you are working to unlock the following:

Gallery Lover

For more info on unlocking the galleries and some tips, see that trophy's specific guide.

Step 3: Complete all of the possible paths in both Trek Shooting Galleries. Here you are trying to unlock the following:

Pathfinder

See that trophy for more details.

Step 4: Survive the first Survival gallery for seven or more minutes. In this step, you're going for the following:

I Will Survive

The previous two steps will help hone your Gallery shooting skills which will be needed for this step. In my opinion, this is, hands down, the hardest trophy in the game. See it for more details.

Step 5: Clean up. Provided that you've followed the road map thus far, you'll have, at most, the following trophies left:

Lucky Number
Bonus Lover
Combo Wizard

You'll almost definitely get the first two of these trophies during the previous steps, but there's a decent chance that you won't have the “Combo Wizard” trophy quite yet. Don't fret though, the hard part of the game is over. Just read the trophy specific guides to help you along with any of your remaining trophies and then you'll unlock

Platinum Trophy

Acknowledgements: I would like to thank brad1787, Jiggstown and xAGENTP6x for all their efforts. This game would have been much harder had you not written up your original collectible guides. As usual, thanks goes to funkyweed for the sweet header.

20 trophies ( 5  )

  • Get all trophies

Just as the description says, unlock all the other trophies and this one will pop. Congrats!

  • Hunt 50 snakes in Story Mode.

There are tons of snakes in the "River Delta" level, but not quite enough for the required 50 (at least I couldn't find enough). They also appear in later levels. They are easy to spot with Hunter Sense (set to Classic) on. Use to activate it and pick off 50 of them and the trophy is yours. This unlocked for me in the "Grassland" level. Killing the snakes with Hunter Sense on has the added benefit of netting you the "I See You" trophy concurrently.

  • Kill the Grizzly Bear boss without dying during the fight in Story Mode.

This is the first boss battle and makes up the entirety of the “Grizzly Hunt” level. If you die, you can not choose the option to load the previous checkpoint and still get this trophy. This hardly matters, since there are no checkpoints during this level anyway. On the other hand, if you think you're going to die or the death animation sequence begins, you can pause the game and choose the option to restart the level and still get the trophy. If you don't manage to squeeze this in before the death sequence finishes, then you'll have to choose the option to quit and then reselect the level from level select.

As for beating the grizzly, that’s pretty easy. Equip your rifle. Keep strafing to dodge his oncoming attacks. When he stops to stand and growl, turn on your Hunter Sense (preferably set to Classic) and shoot at his heart. If you’re fast enough, you can get four or five shots in and you’ll only have to repeat the sequence two or three times before a quick-time event triggers. During the quick-time event, shoot the grizzly’s heart and down he goes.

  • Kill the Rhino boss without dying during the fight in Story Mode.

This is the second boss battle and makes up the entirety of the “Rhino Hunt” level.

Defeating the Rhino boils down to two things: strafing and firing. That’s it. Just keep moving and unloading into the rhino. When the rhino’s health is low enough, a small quick-time event will ensue where you must fire into the rhino’s heart to kill it.

  • Kill the Kaftar boss without dying during the fight in Story Mode.

This is the third (and final) boss battle and makes up the entirety of the “Kaftar Hunt” level.

Defeating the Kaftar is just like defeating the rhino and that means strafing and firing. At this stage in the game, you'll have an assault rifle in your arsenal. Use it to blast away the Kaftar. Like the other two bosses, when the Kaftar’s health is low enough, a small quick-time event will ensue where you must fire into the Kaftar’s heart to kill it.

  • Hunt 50 birds in Story Mode.

Remember that birds killed in Gallery mode do not count towards this trophy. Throughout Story mode, birds will sporadically fly out from the brush and occasionally you’ll come across some vultures feasting on the carcass of a dead animal. Whenever these occasions arise, blast away at the birds. Eventually, you’ll have accumulated enough kills for this trophy. For reference, the trophy unlocked for me towards the end of the “Grassland” level.

  • Hunt an animal with the Rifle that is at least 50 yards away while using the Scope in Story Mode.

There are plenty of places that you can acquire this trophy. The hard part is determining when you're at least 50 yards away. Once you're at this distance, just equip your rifle, activate Hunter Sense with , activate your scope with and take down your target.

Fortunately, there is a sure fire way of unlocking this trophy right at the beginning of the game during your very first land hunt. In the first real level, “Rite of Passage”, you will be told to hunt an elk. When you come to the elk, strafe to the right of him and go as far as you can. The computer will warn you to complete your hunt first before moving on. When you’re at this distance, you should be over 50 yards away from your target. Now, just follow the steps above and the trophy will unlock shortly after.

  • Hunt 20 animals with the Crossbow in Story Mode.

You will get the crossbow late in the “Grassland” level. Use it on any easy targets you come across. Most likely, however, you will have to wait until the next level to unlock the trophy. This level is called the “Off-Road Escape”. Use your crossbow for the charging buffalo and the trophy should unlock in no time. This can be a little tricky to manage though, since you'll want to be using your shotgun or rifle for the marksman target collectibles. If you're following the collectible guide, you'll know the spots that you can switch to and from your crossbow. Also, after the third checkpoint, Mbeki will tell you to scare (i.e. fire a shot into) the buffalo to get them to move. You can use this opportunity to rack up some crossbow kills, since the buffalo won’t get scared from these shots. If you don’t manage to rack up enough kills in this level, don’t fret. You’ll have the crossbow in later levels too.

  • Complete the Story Mode.

This will unlock once you beat the final boss at the end of the “Kaftar Hunt” level. Story mode is very straight-forward and should pose no major difficulties. For tips with defeating the three bosses, see the "Grizzly Defeat", "Rhino Defeat" and "Kaftar Defeat" trophies.

  • Collect all Experience Items and shoot down all Marksman Targets in Story Mode.

Simply collect all of the marksman targets and experience items in all of the levels to unlock this trophy. Here is a link to a collectible guide: Story Mode Collectibles. It has a written version and some youtube videos. Be sure to read the remarks at the beginning of that guide for tips. If you follow that guide to the letter, you will unlock this trophy at the end of the “Kaftar Hunt” level.

  • Hunt 30 animals while using the Hunter Sense in Story Mode.

Remember you activate Hunter Sense with . Just shoot down 30 animals while it’s activated and the trophy will unlock. I personally didn’t like to shoot animals in motion with Hunter Sense on, since it slows down your ability to move making you susceptible to attacks. Don’t worry though, you can just wait until you get to the “River Delta” level. In that level, you will want to have Hunter Sense on to spot and kill the snakes required for the “What Does Indy Hate?” trophy. Most of the snakes are stationary, as long as you don't get too close to them, and therefore, the above issue won't apply. There are more than enough snakes in this level to get this trophy (although not quite enough for the “What Does Indy Hate?” one ).

  • Narrowly escape death 20 times.

You can only narrow escape death from larger, non-boss, land animals; e.g. wolves, lions, cheetahs and baboons. When your health is low enough and an animal attacks you, you may trigger a scene in which the animal is gnawing at your arm. Unload your pistol rounds into the animal to kill it. This counts as a narrow escape. I say “may trigger” because occasionally the animals will just outright kill you if your health is too low. I think this can be avoided if you make sure that you’re screen isn’t in the “attacked state” (i.e. flashing red) when the animal goes for the killing blow. You will want to chip away at this trophy as you progress through the story by letting animals attack you until your health is low and then triggering the mini-event. If you don't manage to get this trophy during the normal progression of the story, just load up the "Full Moon" level via level select and grind out some more narrow escapes there.

  • Collect all Journal Pages in Story Mode.

Simply collect all of the journals in all of the levels to unlock this trophy. Here is a link to a collectible guide: Story Mode Collectibles. It has a written version and some youtube videos. Be sure to read the remarks at the beginning of that guide for tips. If you follow that guide to the letter, you will unlock this trophy at the end of the “Caverns” level.

  • Survive Survival Shooting Gallery 1 (Night Fangs) for more than 7 minutes.

As mentioned in the road map, this is widely regarded as the hardest trophy in the game. You can technically get this trophy whenever you like, but I recommend holding off until you've gotten the "Gallery Lover" and "Pathfinder" trophies, since they will hone your gallery shooting skills.

You will have to replay the level a lot to get familiar with where the animals will spawn from and which power-ups they carry. Proper power-up usage is key here. Here is a link to a nice walkthrough created by bodigard: I Will Survive Help.

I have just one adjustment to his guide: At the end of the “RUINS” stage of the sequence, you can get a slow-mo power-up. Do so and save it until the next time the “HILL” stage cycles up. Do this, instead of going for the marksman power-up. This way, when the infinite ammo appears at the end of the “HILL” stage, you will be able to ensure that you get it by activating the slow-mo and killing the necessary animal.

The trophy will unlock shortly after you pass the seven minute mark. Good luck!!!

One final remark is worth mentioning. You can not unlock this trophy in versus mode. So, you'll have to do this solo. Sorry.

  • Obtain a Bronze or better on all of the Shooting Gallery Classic levels.

Classic galleries are unlocked as you progress through the story. So, you should wait to work on this trophy until after you’ve completed the Story mode. Even then, some of the galleries are only unlocked after you get a bronze on earlier ones. And finally, to unlock the last set of galleries, you will need to acquire 35,000 experience points in Story mode on hard difficulty. You unlock hard difficulty after you clear the game on normal difficulty. To get the required experience points, you will want to play the story on hard difficulty up to and including the “Grizzly Hunt” level. Once you unlock that level, keep replaying it, since it gives you 5,000 experience each time you clear it and it can be done in two and a half minutes, which includes loading times and cutscenes.

For the vast majority of the classic galleries, getting enough points for at least a bronze medal is not hard at all. Most will come on your first try, but sometimes you’ll have to practice a level several times. The later levels are made more difficult because the targets are stronger. This means that they take more shots to take down and deal out more damage when they attack. This was especially problematic for me on gallery 15, when the baboons and lions at the end kept killing me, thereby, preventing me from completing the level (even though I had more than enough points for a bronze). To avoid situations like these, your best bet (beyond knowing where the animals will spawn from) is to use your power-ups wisely. I can't emphasize this enough. For example, I conserved the infinite ammo power up for the final leg of the gallery mentioned above and unloaded on those pesky lions at the end to finally clear it.

  • Successfully play through all possible path combinations in both Trek Shooting Galleries.

Each path consists of four stages. At the end of the first stage, you have the option to go left or right. At the end of the second stage, you have the option to go left, up, or right. At then end of the third, you can only “choose” to go up. Thus, each trek has the following paths to take:

    1. Left, Left, Up;
    2. Left, Up, Up;
    3. Left, Right, Up;
    4. Right, Left, Up;
    5. Right, Up, Up;
    6. Right, Right, Up.

So, between the two treks, you will have a total of 12 paths to take.

Important: You must finish each path completely. This means if you die or fail to get the required points at any point and then decide to quit, that path will not have been counted and you'll have to redo the entire path. That said, if you do die or fail, you can choose the option to restart the stage. You do not have to restart the entire path, just the stage. You can restart stages as many times as you need to to get past them. With enough practice, you'll eventually clear the entire path. Again, just remember to finish the path to completion before you quit. You’ll know if you finished a path completely if you are given a total score at the end. Speaking of scores, you don’t need to worry about getting any medals for the treks to get this trophy.

  • Get a 50 animal combo in any Shooting Gallery level.

You add to your combo by landing shots. If you ever fire and miss, your combo will reset. Land animals, like dear, elk, wolves or bears, must be shot with the rifle in order for the shot to count, while birds must be shot with the shotgun.

I suggest you wait to work on this trophy until after you unlock the “Gallery Lover”, “Pathfinder” and “I Will Survive” trophies because you may very well get in naturally in your quest for those. If not, load up the Classic Gallery 8. The animals in this gallery go down with one shot and there are a lot of bird sequences which helps out. Just take your time and make sure your shots land.

  • Obtain and use every Power-Up type in any Shooting Gallery level.

This can be unlocked in the Classic, Survival, or Trek galleries. There are a total of five types of power-ups:

    • Infinite Ammo: These are indicated a machine gun clip.
    • Double Points: These are indicated by a “2X”.
    • Marksman: These are indicated by a radioactive symbol; i.e. a pie cut into three pieces.
    • First-Aid: These are indicated by a medical cross.
    • Slow-Motion: These are indicated by an hour glass.

As long as you’re actively using power-ups in the galleries, this trophy should unlock naturally, as you are grinding out the “Gallery Lover”, “Pathfinder” and “I Will Survive” trophies. So, you shouldn't need to go out of your way to unlock it. However, if you managed to miss this trophy even after you’ve gotten the ones just mentioned, just load up your favorite gallery and acquire and use every power-up you see. Since I'm somewhat of a sadomasochist, this was the first trophy I got and it was unlocked when going for the "I Will Survive" trophy. I assure you there are much easier levels to unlock this trophy, say any of the first 14 Classic Shooting Galleries.

  • Kill 7 Birds with one Shotgun shot.

Although the trophy description doesn’t specify which mode you have to get this in, I believe it is impossible to get in story mode. That said, it is quite easy to get in Gallery mode. This is another trophy that should unlock naturally as you go for the “Gallery Lover”, “Pathfinder” and “I Will Survive” trophies. So, I recommend getting them first before actively going for this one. But if you're getting antsy, you can load up Classic Gallery 8. This is great level to get the trophy since it has a good number of bird sequences and the animals are quite weak. When you see a cluster of birds, fire your shotgun and you should easily take down seven of them. To make life a little easier, you can use a slow-mo power-up, if you have one.

  • Disarm 30 traps in Story Mode (bear traps or land mines).

This trophy is a ridiculously easy gold to get. The traps first appear in the “Full Moon” level and the computer will prompt you when they are around. Provided you have your Hunter Sense set to classic mode, you can easily spot them with it activated (using ). There are well over 30 traps around for you to shoot, but if for some reason you don’t get enough here, you can shoot the land mines that show up later in the game in the “Outpost” and “Caverns” levels.
