Boss! is a fun little side-scrolling beat-em-up on the PSN, where the player is given the opportunity to play the role of a gigantic monster who terrorizes the kingdom. Players can customize their monster’s looks and weapons using coins collected while fighting through Trogon Kingdom. Players will encounter waves of heroes and magicians trying to defend each zone and take them out using their awesome powers and throwing things, like cows and UFOs, to clear the path to the castle! Nothing can stop the Boss!

Difficulty Change and Level Continuation: If you die at a higher difficulty, you can change the difficulty level before restarting the level. The good thing is that the game will let you continue from whatever horde you left off at in a level, as long as you don’t start up another level. Use this to repeat a horde for trophies or make boss fights easier. Helps for Hardcore the most.

The Fork: I’ll refer to the “map fork” throughout the guide. The map fork is where the map branches off into four three paths after beating the first castle. I have included a picture to help you, the reader, to understand better.

Step One - Finish Each Level and Combat Trophies

First things first, I advise that you play through all levels in the game and avoid the mini-game levels. This should take only take 2-4 hours to do; you should do the level-related trophies and you may unlock some of the miscellaneous combat trophies along the way without trying. That would be ideal because I would also advise that you clear out the rest of the combat trophies along the way. During this step, you should unlock:

Gotcha
Strike
Want fries with that
Poison ivy
I like ice cream
I like them crispy
Hardened
Get a teddy
I want candy

Step Two - Mini-games and Clean Up

Complete all three mini-games while trying to reach the required scores for their trophies. You will also be spending a lot of your coins and replaying through levels to grind experience for your monster to reach Level 25. During this step, you should unlock:

Gladiator
Never saw it coming
Super boss
Its raining heroes
Big expender
Multiple personality

15 trophies ( 13  )

  • Reach 250 score on the arena

The Arena is accessible after beating the third level along the top-right route taken after the map fork.

This mini-game will have you fight through endless hordes of enemies until you die. It’s a good thing this isn’t very hard to obtain. Play the Arena at the lowest difficulty and make you abuse your special attacks when you can use them. You should have killed around 250 enemies by Hordes 14-16.

The trophy will unlock once 250 enemies have been killed.

  • Reach 5000 Score on Run Hero Run

Run Hero Run is accessible after beating the second level in the snow zone, top-left route at the map fork.

During this mini-game, you will control a green warrior and you will have to avoid obstacles while running away from your monster. This mini-game is a bit challenging so the best way to progress through the mini-game is to only jump enough to allow your hero to clear an obstacle, rather holding down the jump button, so that his feet can touch ground faster and he can run away from the monster. Another good strategy is to save your bomb princesses for later when the game starts throwing mines in your way that you can’t dodge so you can stop the monster when you get staggered by one.

Once you hit 5000, the trophy will pop.

  • Reach level 25

Your monster will gain levels over the course of the game by defeating enemies. You can see your monster’s level and its progress during gameplay, displayed to the left of his/her picture in the top-left corner of the screen. The number represents your current level and the green bar represents the experience gained.

You will, most likely, not reach Level 25 by playing through the game, so you will have to grind out the rest by playing the game at higher difficulties for more experience.

  • Reach 15000 Score on Falling Heroes

Falling Heroes is accessible after beating the third level along the bottom-right route at the map fork.

During this mini-game, heroes will fall from the sky and your objective is to hit them before they touch the ground and/or run off screen. This game should be attempted when your monster has a foot speed stat of 25 and is a high enough level to unlock the broom weapon. The broom weapon increases your swing and foot speed, has a long range and swings in a high arc so you can pick off enemies long before they get close to the ground. As long as you roll to move faster and hit enemies while they’re up high, this trophy shouldn’t pose much of a problem.

You can use any long weapon for this, but I recommend the broom. This trophy will unlock once you’ve hit 15000 points.

  • Survive an explosive princess

This trophy can be obtained in the third level, during Horde 2. When this wave starts, there will be a princess on the ground in front of you, standing in a grassy area, in front of a statue of a sword.

First instinct is to pick her up and eat her for health but if you look at her closely, you’ll notice that she is a red color and has sparks emitting from her. If you have at least more than half of your health bar available, all you have to do is pick her up and hold her until she explodes in your hand. When she does and you survive, the trophy will pop shortly after.

If you don’t get the trophy here, there are plenty of other bomb princesses out there to grab.

  • Make 50 hits with an object

Using one thrown object, you must get 50 hits in one throw. This sounds hard to do but it’s not bad. The preferred object of choice would be the UFO since it moves at a good rate to juggle an enemy for 3+ hits before dropping them, but any item will work just fine.

When you find a UFO, there’s a good chance that there will be at least 10+ enemies around at some point. Pick the UFO, roll around to get the horde of enemies to one side of your monster and throw the UFO their way. Regardless of what the combo counter said, the UFO should make 50 hits and the trophy should unlock. This might unlock by natural play so don't worry about it too much.

Plenty of levels have UFOs in them, but the earliest you can unlock this trophy is the third level of the story, during Horde 5.

  • Reach a 99 hit combo

The earliest this trophy can be obtained is on the third level of the story, while playing on Hard (3 skull difficulty) because the enemies take more hits and equipping items to decrease your strength. During Horde 3, after you’ve destroyed a fort and entered a town, there will be a large amount of lance-wielding enemies around. Ignore them and grab the poisonous barrel to the right of the area. Roll around until you can get most, if not all, of the enemies to one side of your character and toss the barrel into the crowd. When this is done, you will see the combo meter increase. The poison has a lingering effect on the enemies so it will continue to inflict damage, thus increasing the number of hits on the combo counter. The real trick, however, is to not get hit while the combo counter is increasing, otherwise the combo stops. You can avoid getting hit by continuously hitting the enemies as they approach you to attack. Do this until your combo counter reaches 99. Once done, the trophy pops as soon as the combo ends. I have included a video down below to demonstrate the said method above.

If you haven’t gotten it already, you should unlock Poison ivy while attempting this.

  • Buy 40 items

Simply buy 40 items from the Equip Menu. You gain coins to shop by killing enemies, defeating bosses, playing mini-games and completing levels. This trophy will pop once you’ve bought your 40th item. There is no way to track this progress so you just have to buy things until you reach the goal.

  • Poison 10 enemies simultaneously

This trophy can be obtainable as early as the third level of the story, regardless of difficulty level. As soon as the level begins, exactly 10 enemies will appear at once in the first horde. Along with them, to the right of the area, is a poisonous barrel that can be thrown. Pick up this barrel and roll around until you can get all 10 enemies on one side of your monster and at a good distance from it. Time right and throw the barrel into the crowd. If done correctly, the trophy should pop right away.

There are other chances to obtain this trophy in the same level during Hordes 3 and 4, after you’ve destroyed a fort and entered a town. During these hordes, there are well above 10 enemies on screen and poisonous barrels eagerly waiting to be thrown in these areas. Use the rolling strategy to get the enemies to one side of your monster and throw the barrel their way for the trophy.

If those are missed, there are plenty of other chances later in the story to obtain this.

  • Freeze 14 enemies simultaneously

    Possibly Glitched

This can be done in the same level and horde as the I like them crispy trophy. However, you need to finish the first castle in order to unlock the Yeti evolution so that your ( + ) special attack freezes enemies. Draw out the enemies by defeating the green warriors slowly. Once the other variations of enemies start running out, stop attacking and position yourself so that all of the enemies are to one side of your monster before performing the attack.

After doing this multiple times, my trophy didn’t pop until I entered the snow zone, top-left route of the fork in the map road, and hit an enemy with a snowman so don’t be discouraged if it does not pop up right away.

This is the earliest you can get the trophy, but there are numerous opportunities in the snow zone, especially the snow zone castle, Hordes 2 and 3.

  • Burn 14 enemies simultaneously

You can grab this trophy as earlier as the first castle, during Horde 5. During this horde, you will fight 2 green shield-and-sword wielding enemies at a time until a certain point. Time your time defeating them as when you defeat enough of them, different enemies will begin to pour out. At this point, stop attacking because exactly 14 enemies will be in the area. Once they are all out, use the ( + ) special to burn all enemies on screen and the trophy will pop shortly after. There is a video below, showing you how I achieve this feat.

If you don’t get it here, you can do the same right at the beginning of Horde 6, before killing any enemies, in the same level. Otherwise, there are many more opportunities later in the game.

  • Beat the third castle of Trogon Kingdom on Hardcore

The third castle of Trogon Kingdom is the final level along the top-right at the map fork.

Before you unlock this trophy, you must unlock the Hardcore difficulty by defeating the final boss of this area once on any difficulty. When that done, you have play through the entire castle again. Go through the level on the easiest difficulty (1 skull) and when you reach the final boss again, quit to the map, change the difficulty to Hardcore (4 skulls) and then defeat the boss again.

The best method is to roll when he stomps to avoid the damage, attack him 3+ times or so when he’s taking a breather and roll away when he recovers. Rinse and repeat and he should be cake. The trophy will unlock after the cutscene.

  • Beat Santa’s Workshop

Santa’s Workshop is the final level you encounter at the end of the path if you take the top-left route at the map fork.

Simply get through the level and after you defeat the area boss, the trophy will unlock.

  • Beat the Haunter Factory

The Haunter Factory is the final level you encounter at the end of the path if you take the route to the bottom right at the fork that appears after finishing the castle.

Simply finish the level and after you defeat the area boss, the trophy will unlock.

  • Get 9 evolutions

Evolutions are the different variations of your monster. The difference between these evolutions is that they may or may not add a different effect to your special attacks.

Here’s a list of the 9 unlockable evolutions and how to unlock them:

    1. Blue Horned Evolution - Completion of the Second Level
    2. Yeti Evolution - Completion of Trogon Kingdom First Castle
    3. Slime Evolution - Completion of the Haunter Factory
    4. *Snowman Evolution - Completion of Run Hero Run trophy
    5. Reindeer Evolution - Completion of Santa’s Workshop
    6. Skeleton Evolution - Completion of Trogon Kingdom Second Castle
    7. *Spectral Skeleton Evolution - Completion of Falling Heroes trophy
    8. *Magma Evolution - Completion of the Arena trophy
    9. Stone Chief Evolution - Completion of Trogon Kingdom Third Castle

*- Game will not inform you that you've unlocked this.

The trophy will pop after you’ve unlocked the last evolution.
