Introduction:
Hi and welcome to my second trophy guide!
Book Quest is an action adventure RPG presented in retro pixel art style. Take the role of a young man who witnesses the theft of his family’s magic book, which leads to a visit by his grandfather’s ghost compelling him to embark on a dangerous journey to retrieve it. Explore the surrounding towns and wilderness, gather information from townsfolk, strengthen your character with new weapons and gear, track down the culprits who stole the magic book and discover the truth behind it all!
While this game looks exciting, it really isn't that good (personal opinion). If you're looking for a fast platinum then I'll recommend it, but for the story and gameplay itself, nah it isn't the best. For example I've never bought anything from the shop. All items in there are unnecessary for completing the game. Every enemy you encounter you can just run past them. they don't need to be killed. Also you cannot enter any of the houses until you need to do a quest inside. The areas are huge, but there isn't much to do. Mostly you find a chest with some coins. But you will never get enough coins to even buy the strongest weapon and like I said you don't need them to complete the game. The minigames in between some areas are a bit boring and after you have finished the game you can't re-enter the game. Everytime you start it up you will get directly to the credits because of the autosave the game has. Should I go on?
Furthermore the game looks incomplete. It looks like there where some ideas, but they were never finished. For example: There are a lot of fishing spots, but you never get a rod. Your inventory is huge and there are many available spots for magic and other stuff, but there aren't many items you can collect.
The only thing I liked were the 3 boss fights (yeah only 3..). For me these where fun. I found the dragon the hardest and the bat the easiest.
Walkthrough:
You can follow this guide to get all trophies or do it your own way. It doesn't take long to find out where to go. Remember you can press
to speed up a little and you can skip all enemies if you like.
When starting up the game you will get Beginning
. First equip the broom and push the bookstand in the back. You will find a book in the bassement. Drop it on the table in the previous room and go to bed.
Once outside go to the house in the bottom left of the map while collecting at least 5 berries for Collector I
. Then go north to the man standing in front of the builders. After the talk, collect more berries and get 25 for Collector II
. Unequip the broom and equip the sword and go to the west of the village.
Go through this 2D level and avoid all enemies. At the next screen talk to the guy in front of the house. After, go West. You can't collect more berries yet. At the next screen go to the blocked path, then go back to the guy in front of the house again. Now collect 10 berries and talk to him again. Open the door on the next screen and flip the switch. Go north.
Go west and south and push all 9 crates on the panels. Go north and open the chest for the axe (quest). Then follow the path west and north to find a fragment. You can't open the dragondoor yet, because you'll need all fragments. Find these in all areas around it. You will need 7 then walk back to the dragondoor and go in.
Next is a minigame where you'll need to jump to the top. Push the stick left to jump left and push the stick right to jump right. At the end you will reach a flag. Now you'll encounter a bossfight.
I found this one a tough fight. When he flies, dodge the flames (5 times). When he stands, hit him 5 times then walk away, otherwise you'll get hit. Do this for a while and he will summon little dragons to aid him. Dodge these and hit him again. Instead of 5 he will shoot 3 fireballs and also you can only hit him 3 times, otherwise he will hit you. It's tough but doable, just time it well. When he is at a quarter of his health he will shoot 7 fast fireballs. Walk around to store some health before trying to hit him. Be carefull because he will only stand for a few seconds. Hit him once and leave. I found it the easiest method is to walk around in big circles before striking him again. When defeated you will get Dragon Born
.
Walk all the way back to the guard. After some areas you will find a fire spell which gives you the trophy Treasure Hunter
. After talking with the guard go to the village. You can now collect berries again, collect 50 for Collector III
. Enter the bookstore. Talk with the owner and go to the tavern. Talk with Minerva, Brad, then Minerva again. Then go back to the forest area (west). Collect 20 blue berries around this area (aren't hard to find) and go back to Minerva (inside the tavern). Trade the berries for 40 coins and you will probably get The Poor
(collect 25 coins) and Business Man
(Collect 50 coins). Then go to house of the fisherman and talk with him inside.
The fisherman will need crabs. Go to the south of the village. The path is blocked so you'll have to go back to the fisherman. After talking, go to the lumberjack to give him his axe. Then go south of the village again and equip and use your fire magic to destroy the trees.
In the beach area, kill 5 crabs and walk back to the fisherman for the Craber
trophy. He will then give you your coins and you will probably get Nobel
(Collect 100 coins). Then go to the beach again. To the west you will find a treasure with gold. To the east and up north you will find a switch and a treasure. For the story, you will need to go east into a cave. In this minigame you will need to time your jumps by pressing
. At the end you'll reach a flag. Once inside follow the path until you come to a fork. Go west for a chest with coins. Go east to reach a switch and a bossfight (Bat).
The bat has two different attacks. One where he is coming for you 5 times and 1 where you'll see some red marked areas which you should avoid. When he crashes down you can hit him like 4/5 times. You can also use your fire magic. After that walk away so you won't get hurt (like with the dragon boss fight). After defeating it you will get Dracula Killer
.
You can now walk west to get an ice scroll. Then go outside. You will end up next to the house of the blacksmith. Inside you can buy new weapons or life/mana rings, but like I said before these aren't necessary to finish the game. Be sure to keep 10 coins with you. Then go north of the village to find out the path is blocked. Go east to the alchemist and pay him 10 coins. He will teleport you to the snowy area.
From here don't go south or west (both dead ends), but go northeast into the next screen. From here don't go northeast (dead end), but go west into a new screen with a big lake. South is once more a dead end, so go north and follow the path until you reach a tower. Inside is the final boss (The Mage)!
Tip: I suddenly had an ultimatum sword in my inventory, you probably will too. Equip this to do massive damage.
Stage 1: The mage will shoot fireballs (5 times) so dodge these untill you see he is stunned. Hit him 4/5 times and walk away.
Stage 2: He will get two friends to join him shooting at you. It can be tricky to dodge all of them but try to time it. I counted 6 shots, then he is stunned again. Also you can't hit him 5 times anymore otherwise he will hit you and you will die quick. Try hitting him 2/3 (maybe 4) times then run away. Rinse and repeat untill he is defeated and you will get The Mage
. Follow the story and you will also get The End
and Book Master
.
Congratz on your new plat!
