Introduction:

When his town is set on fire by unforseen evil, Eil forms a partnership with a Grimoa named Nogard to stop the evil from spreading across the world.  He will soon make new friends and Grimoa companions to help him on his journey.

Bonds of the Skies has an unusual trophy list for a Kecmo RPG; you don't need to worry about synthesizing weapons or fighting in challenge arenas or opening a set amount of treasure chests.  The list is very straight forward - a third of the list is story-related and the majority of the rest involves levelling up all of your characters, with a few miscellaneous ones thrown in. The two trophies you really want to keep track of are Material Collector trophy_gold.png  and Quest Master trophy_gold.png so read up on them before starting the game.

GLITCH NOTE: There's a bizarre glitch that occurs on the current Vita patch (1.01). Sometimes, when you stay at an inn, your characters won't completely recover If you save your game after staying at an inn, they will be recovered. I don't know if this affects the PS4 version of the game. This glitch does not affect trophies or gameplay (other than the obvious); it's just a strange little thing so always save after resting at an inn.

1oldtymer over on RPGInsanity has put together a world map for the game, which I am posting here:

Tips and Tricks:

- The game will point it out but it's worth remembering: always search bookcases, jars etc.  If you walk up to one and see a question mark, there will be either an item, a crafting recipe or some money in it.

- After defeating Rednaught the first time (Last Battle with Rednaught trophy_silver.png), you should be around level 35-40.  You'll also be able to freely sail the ship.  Hop on the ship and fight every battle and within an hour you should be around level 50 - and on either shore are easy enemies and two towns with inns that will fully restore your HP/SP. I recommend doing this before moving on with the story. Stock up with Pancho Ear items, because the mermaid enemies love to cast Pancho on your party. Make sure you get the new quests from the statues in Marmedia and Tartaros first, as some involve enemies you encounter on the sea.

- As indicated by her weaspon (a shield) and her stats progression, Avi is not a great fighter. Use her as your mage/healer and equip her as such. When you defeat Britz, he will drop the Hermit's Chain accessory. Put it on Avi for the rest of the game.

- Eil's best weapon is called Excalibur, and is located in a chest in Dolphin Eye Forest (SW of Desert Labyrinth), accessible once you get the airship. You'll need to fight the hero from Dragon Quest/Warrior I to get it! Ilk's best weapon is called Sceggiold and it's found in a chest on Eastern Island (the E-shaped one).

- Premium Purchases: The XP and damage ones really aren't needed, nor is the full restore one. If you have an extra $2, I would actually recommend the "no encounters" one. You are going to hit the level cap searching for rare materials and the potential spawn point for diamonds is so far into the Ice Palace that the battles you'll encounter on the way will be annoying, even if all you're doing is running from them. Not having to worry about those battles can save some time and certainly some annoyance.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game - Normal End

Simply play through the game. Since this is a rare Kemco game without a difficulty option, you may find it a bit more difficult than ones you may have played before. Just keep your levels up and you should be fine. Remember that you can save absolutely anywhere. Strive to get all of your character's levelling trophies in this step, as that will put you in a good place to defeat the Normal End boss.

You will also very likely level up all of your Grimoa companions but if for some reason you don't, there's an excellent place to do so post-game; it's covered in Step 2.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Encounter with Nogard trophy_bronze.png
Encounter with Iks trophy_bronze.png
Encounter with Avi trophy_bronze.png
Battle against Rednaught trophy_silver.png
Looking for an Airship trophy_silver.png

...and if you kept up with levelling:

Nogard's Growth trophy_silver.png
Titanus' Growth trophy_silver.png
Loreley's Growth trophy_silver.png
Britz's Growth trophy_silver.png
Baum's Growth trophy_silver.png
Marcia's Growth trophy_silver.png

Eil's Growth trophy_gold.png
Iks' Growth trophy_gold.png
Avi's Growth trophy_gold.png

Step 2: Continue story until the final boss fight/miscellaneous cleanup

When you regain control after the credits, warp to the Fire Ruins.Make your way through and speak with Rednaught.  Once you do, he will join you as a companion - he'll join you whether you fight him or not.  You will likely just level him up in the Ice Palace while searching for Diamonds but if you managed to have all of the rare materials you need, then there's an area in the Ice Palace past where you met Lumina that will give a ton of XP to your Grimoas - the area that leads to the game's final boss.

Once you have Rednaught, continue following the story quests. In the Ice Palace, you will eventually come across a room with a Blue Ruby in a chest in the bottom right corner of the room. This room leads to the game's final boss.  Don't progress the story and defeat the boss yet (or just don't make a save after you do), else you will risk making a New Game+ save, which means you will lose all progress you've already made towards Step 3 of this Roadmap.

By the end of this step, you will have earned (if you didn't in Step 1):

First Offering trophy_bronze.png
Exciting World trophy_bronze.png
Transformation trophy_bronze.png
Dreaming to Be a Hero trophy_silver.png
Rednaught's Growth trophy_silver.png
Last Battle with Rednaught trophy_silver.png

Step 3: Material Grinding and Quests

If you're incredibly lucky, you already have everything you need for Material Collector trophy_gold.png but you likely still need to grind out the rare stuff.  Now is the time to do so, so you can craft the final three items needed for that trophy.  If you didn't take care of the sidequests in Step 1 or 2, now is the time to do that - they were all available to you once you gained the airship.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Material Collector trophy_gold.png
Quest Master trophy_gold.png

Step 4: True Ending

When you've gotten all other trophies on this list, make your way through the Ice Palace and defeat the true final boss of the game.

By the end of this step, you will have earned:

Game Clear trophy_gold.png
Complete Conquest trophy_platinum.png

24 trophies ( 11  16  )

  • Obtain all trophies.

    Congratulations!
  • Make offerings for the first time.

Offerings are the game's crafting mechanism. They can only be done at the statues found in every town - the same statues where you get your sidequests. You craft items with materials that you gather from collection points - sparkling areas found in most stages. They are also very occasionally dropped by enemies.

In terms of crafting, you either have the option of combining three items to see what you get or you can find the myserious robed figure in each town. This person is dressed in white robes and when you talk to them, they will give you a set of recipes for offerings. Whatever route you choose, the first thing you craft at a statue will get you this trophy.
  • Play at the casino.

The casino is the building behind the statue in Eyron. Simply approach any of the open slot machines, bet any amount of money, and no matter the outcome you'll unlock this trophy.
  • Turn into a Pancho.

Pancho is a status effect equivalent to something like imp or shrink in other RPGs; basically, your character can only deal a small amount of damage to enemies (except for its special punch skill). The trophy specifically refers to your character's sprite on the map - if you are changed into Pancho and then heal yourself in the same fight, the trophy will not unlock.  You must complete the battle with the character in Pancho state for the trophy to unlock.

I personally got cursed when fighting the Mimic treasure chest enemy but there are plenty of enemies who can cause Pancho.  The Bancho enemies in the Cave of Fire are fans of inflicting Pancho status. The item that reverses Pancho status, Pancho Ear, will also cause Pancho on an unaffected character. I don't know if doing that will unlock this trophy but I imagine it probably would.
  • Turn into a hero.

To turn into a hero, you must find and equip the Warrior Ring accessory. There is one in a chest outside of the Hidden Item Shop, which is located at the very southern tip of the continent that Rig and the Caves of Sand are on. You will have to wait until you get the airship before you can go there. When you have the ring equipped, exit out of the menus to see that your character has changed appearance and the trophy will unlock.
  • Eil reaches level 70.

Self-explanatory. Since you will want your characters to be at max level (99) when fighting the final boss and you may reach it anyway just grinding for the rare materials - this will come while going for other trophies.
  • Nogard reaches level 11.

Nogard will join your party at level 1, at the end of the game's prologue. Whether he is equipped to someone or not, he will gain XP from battle whether you use his skills or not. Get him to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Complete the quest list.

Quests are assigned at the statues found in every town. Unlike most Kemco RPGs, there aren't many timing issues for when quests spawn - as soon as you enter a town, you can access a statue and take on every quest it has to give you.  The majority of quests involve killing a set amount of enemies so it is in your interest to take these quests early before leaving the town to continue with the story. Whenever you're brought back to a town for story reasons, check the statue again to make sure to check with the statue to see if more quests have spawned. Take note that there is also one of these statues in Eden (the big library) so make sure you've gotten those quests as well.

Alternately, when you get the airship, all of the quests will be available; you can pick them all up then. When you've completed quests, hand them in at the statue to get gold and item rewards. The trophy will not unlock unless you've handed in all of the quests at their respective statues.

Here is a list of all of all 55 quests, from the walkthrough listed in the Roadmap. You can also check which ones you've cleared from the game's main menu, under Collection: LINK

Secret trophies

  • Reach story No. 5.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

You will unlock this after your first conversation with Nogard the dragon.
  • Reach story No. 10.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

You will unlock this upon entering the Desert Labyrinth
  • Reach story No. 15.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

You will unlock this after defeating Loreley in the Forest of Springs. Exit the forest for a few cutscenes, after which the trophy will unlock.
  • Reach story No. 20.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

Do not attempt the fight against Rednaught until Loreley has reached level 7. At level 7, Loreley learns Bis Heal, which will heal all party members. Rednaught is a fan of using fire attacks on the entire party at once so you'll definitely want to be able to heal everyone at once. Just make sure Bis Heal is equipped before going into the fight. In terms of regular levels, I recommend your party to be at level 35-40 at this point in the game.

This is probably the first fight where you'll need to use Synchros. When a Grimoa's meter is filled in battle, select the Synchro option to add special skills to the skills menu. For this particular fight, Avi's is the most useful (a strong ice attack) but since she's on healing duty, make sure Eil and Iks use aid jelly/high aid jelly or Iks can use her Aid skill (jellies are probably more useful at this stage). Otherwise, keep Avi on healing duty and hit Rednaught with everything Eil and Iks can throw at him and use Miracle Drip items to revive if necessary.

After defeating Rednaught, stay in the Marmedia inn, then return to Tartaros for several scenes, then go to Dragonika and Eil's house (with the yellow thing on it) for even more cutscenes, after which you will finally unlock this trophy.
  • Reach story No. 25.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

To get the airship, you must speak to Ryan in Tartaros (top left house), who will ask you for some driftrock. Gather it in the Desert Labyrinth and bring it back to him. After a few cutscenes, you will have a shiny new airship and this trophy.
  • Reach story No. 30.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

First, you need to get the Normal Ending of the game.

After you regain control after the credits, you will be tasked to collect Rednaught from the Fire Ruins. Do so (you don't actually have to fight him), then go back to the Ice Palace and speak with Lumina. After your conversation is over, this trophy will unlock.
  • Clear the main story.

    Story-related and cannot be missed.

After you speak with Lumina (Last Battle with Rednaught trophy_silver.png), go back to the Golbenia Volcano and fight Nero again. The fight is the exact same as the first time; he just hits harder and likes using status effects (mostly poison). After defeating Nero again, go through the Ice Palace past where Lumina was and defeat the final boss of the game.

The final boss hits hard but the fight works the same as Nero - take care of the flanking enemies, then focus on the boss. For this, I had Eil constantly using Dancing Sword, Ilk either using Death Blow or using SP-restoring items and Avi using Bis Heal. When it was just down to the boss, I had Eil Synchro and use the double hit skill until the Synchro meter ran out. It's definitely important for Avi to be using Bis Heal every round, even if you don't think you need it, because even at max level the boss can take off half your health bar.  The boss also likes using an instant death attack from time to time; equip the Rabbit Ears (which you should have gotten off of one of the quest monsters) onto one character to guarantee they'll stay alive and in a position to be able to revive the other(s).

After the final battle, you'll have an epilogue and will be prompted to save your game. The trophy will unlock here. If you have not gotten all of the other trophies, then make sure you don't save over your current file!
  • Iks reaches level 70.

Self-explanatory. Since you will want your characters to be at max level (99) when fighting the final boss and you may reach it anyway just grinding for the rare materials - this will come while going for other trophies.
  • Avi reaches level 70.

Self-explanatory. Since you will want your characters to be at max level (99) when fighting the final boss and you may reach it anyway just grinding for the rare materials - this will come while going for other trophies.
  • Titanus reaches level 11.

Titanus will join your party at level 1, after you fight him in the Desert Labyrinth. Whether he is equipped to someone or not, he will gain XP from battle whether you use his skills or not. Get him to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Loreley reaches level 11.

Loreley will join your party at level 1, after you fight her in the Forest of Springs. Whether she is equipped to someone or not, she will gain XP from battle whether you use her skills or not. Get her to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Baum reaches level 11.

Baum will join your party at level 10, after you fight him in the Forest of Owls. Whether he is equipped to someone or not, he will gain XP from battle whether you use his skills or not. Get him to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Marcia reaches level 11.

Marcia will join your party at level 10, after you fight her in the XXX. Whether she is equipped to someone or not, she will gain XP from battle whether you use her skills or not. Get her to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Britz reaches level 11.

Britz will join your party at level 10, after you fight him in the Caves of Sand. Whether he is equipped to someone or not, he will gain XP from battle whether you use his skills or not. Get him to level 11 for this trophy to unlock.
  • Rednaught reaches level 11.

To obtain Rednaught as a companion, you must first get the normal ending of the game. When you regain control after the cutscenes after the credits, you will be tasked to find Rednaught at the Fire Ruins. Whether you fight him or not, he will join your party at level 1. When he reaches level 11, you will unlock this trophy.
  • Collect all materials.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To save you a lot of time, grinding and frustration, don't craft anything that has the following materials in them:

Platinum x4 - Golbenia Volcano - 1) down the far left ladder in the second room (there's also a chest here) 2) at the fork with the north and south ladders, down the north ladder.
Hydra Bone x4 - Caves of Fire - go east from the entrance until you hit a chest, then south to the material point.
Golbenia Volcano - the material point next to the green restore crystal.
Eden Seed x3 - Forest of Fu Plateau.
Diamond x4 - Ice Palace - bottom left corner point in the room with the portal that leads to Lumina. Rare. Good luck.
Shiso x3 -  Forest of the Mind.  Also dropped by Porcupine enemy on Eastern Island (the E-shaped one).

Additionally, there is a Rare Metal in a chest early in the Ice Palace and a Blue Ruby in a different part of the Ice Palace, in the area leading to the final boss  These are the only ones that you can collect; otherwise they will need to be crafted so make sure you get them!

It is important not to use those rare materials because a sidequest very early on will give you a recipe for a healing item that will use one of your rarer materials if you craft it and there are plenty of accessories that use these items but you need these rare materials to create other materials for this trophy. If you somehow manage to have more than the amount listed above, then feel free to use your excess but you likely won't.

Materials are found by interacting with collection sites in levels (the blue sparkling places) or dropped by enemies.  The merchant in Eden will even sell you some. You can hold up to 99 of each material; extras can be sold off to merchants in towns (you'll probably do this with boar hides, for example). Materials are used to craft items and accessories at the statues in towns.

There are 35 materials you can collect/earn from enemies and three that must be crafted. You do not need to have all of them on your person at the same time; you just need to have had them at one point for them to count as having been collected.

For the crafted materials, make sure you have the items in the amounts listed above. The recipes are as follows:

Deluxe Leather - Platinum x4, Hydra Bone x3, Eden Seed x3
Gold Thread - Hydra Bone x4, Eden Seed x3, Shiso x3
Silk Cloth - Diamond x4, Eden Seed x3, Shiso x3

Go to any Grimoa statue and make a save. Create any of the items - either from the recipes (found at the Hidden Item/Accessory/Equipment shops) or add the materials individually from the recipes printed above. Once you've crafted the item, exit to the game's title screen (triangle.png - System - Title), reload your save, craft a different item, then repeat for the final item.

A full list of all 38 materials (including the three that must be crafted) can be found here, courtesy of OldMateClown: LINK. His guide says that the Blue Ruby must be crafted but it doesn't need to be.  You can also check your material inventory in-game under Item - Materials.

Videos of some of the rare material locations can be found here, courtesy of ThisGameSucks: LINK
