Introduction:

The Beholder 2 is the sequel to the outstanding Beholder game and DLC, with some similarities and some differences from the original. Although set in the same totalitarian country as the first game with some tie-ins and recurring characters, this time you play as Evan Redgrave, a new hire to the Ministry, the large central government building. You are tasked with finding your way in these new surroundings and advancing your career through any means possible, all the while trying to unravel the mystery of your father's recent death. You are no longer the manager of an apartment building but rather a government worker, doing various bureaucratic tasks, getting to know your co-workers and bosses and trying to survive in this exaggerated, crazy environment.

The cartoonish graphics are similar to the first game, as are the conversation styles, searching and talking to gain information, task structure etc. However, there is no running clock like in the original, instead actions cost "time" to do and there really isn't as much pressure to move around as quickly. Overall, I found this to be a great game with interesting storylines, an excellent sense of humor and some moral choices thrown in for good measure. If you liked the first Beholder, you will very likely enjoy this sequel as well.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Play through the game, advancing through each floor and paying attention to Over The Heads and Lootboxing

Simply play the game, making lots of manual saves, advancing and trying to get promoted from floor to floor. You'll have opportunities to earn many of the floor-specific trophies listed below as you go but many of these storylines will not be compatible with earning Over The Heads , so you'll have to use saves and reloads. As detailed under Over The Heads , you must personally report each of the nine co-workers (3 on each floor) in order to earn this trophy. Also, as described under Lootboxing , you'll have to find every Biometric safe before they become unreachable.

  • Get every trophy

    As always, earn every other trophy then the Platinum is yours.

  • Be killed by a colleague

    There are several ways to earn this but the easiest is having Marco Legrand kill you. Early on in the game, Marco will ask you to prank Peter Dong in order to earn the Biometric safe he has. Agree to the task, then return and refuse to prank, refuse and insult him, then destroy him with words. He will then kill you.

  • There are many ways to achieve this. Simply don't pay any of your bills when they are due, then you will be arrested. Alternatively, you could steal any item from a colleague's desk, go through the security checkpoint and refuse to pay the fine/bribe. Insulting, failing, or threatening your bosses along the way in this game also often results in your arrest.

  • Find all father's boxes

    There are 23 Biometric Safes in total: 8 on the 1st floor, 8 on the 12th floor and 7 on the 25th floor. Here are the locations in detail:

    1st Floor (80 Heimdall Codes):

    1. In the meeting/assembly room, search the left-most potted plant
    2. In the room with lines, after you've taken it apart and removed the power unit, go back to the vending machine and search it
    3. In the work area, search the food cart next to Serena Marwitz
    4. In the work area, search the paper cart just to the right of/nearest to Emma Hazer's desk
    5. Given to you by Marco Legrand after completing his task to pull 3 pranks on Peter Dong (can also be stolen from his desk or found in Lost and Found if Marco is gone)

  • Wanted to die when living

    This is achieved by dying in any of a number of possible ways. See Team Building for an easy method.

  • Salute the Leader statue 50 times

    Earn this by interacting with any bust of the Wise Leader on the 1st floor and choosing salute 50 times. Each of these costs 5 minutes of your time but gives you 1 Authority point.

  • Watch all TV series recommended by colleagues

    There are five colleagues with whom you must become friends by watching and then discussing their favorite television shows the indicated number of times.

    • Marco Legrand, 1st floor: The Walking Boreans, one episode
    • Emma Hazer, 1st floor: The Passion of the Leader, 3 episodes
    • Peter Dong, 1st floor: The Patriot Adventures, 3 episodes
    • Stephen Dawking, 25th floor: Quantum Junk Heap, 3 episodes
    • Horatio Newport, 25th floor: The Schrodinger Effect, 3 episodes
  • Spit in Morris

    At the beginning of the game, on the way into the office for the first time, you will pass a man who drops all of his papers in the room with all the lines. Interact with him and choose to spit in his face. This will cost you a $500 fine later.

  • Help Morris

    At the beginning of the game, on the way into the office for the first time, you will pass a man who drops all of his papers in the room with all the lines. Interact with him and choose to help. Morris will give you a lockpicking book later.

  • Help Dong to make romance with Hazer

    This trophy takes multiple steps to earn. After searching Peter Dong's computer terminal, talk to him, ask about Emma Hazer, use information from terminal and help with Emma. Next, you will have to ask Emma Hazer about colors and flowers. Return to Dong and talk about flowers, selecting Red Roses. The following day, talk to Peter Dong, ask what happened, then offer help. You now need to obtain a bottle of whiskey (found either by searching the middle potted plant in the assembly area or by buying from Nathan Kehler) and the brochure from Emma Hazer's desk. Talk to Peter Dong again, give him the cure for cowardice and give him the whiskey and the brochure, telling him "a couple of sips". The following day, talk to Peter Dong one more time, ask about date and agree. Go to your office computer and select the camera. Now select: Be polite, Compliment her, Lie and say that you watch Passion of the Leader, Tell her you love children, then Politely ask her on a date.

  • ...with blackjack and hookers!

    This is another multi-step trophy. While working on the 1st floor, after your first few days, you'll be summoned to meet your boss, Pete Ferguson. He will ask you to accomplish several tasks, including going through a line with counterfeit money to try to find out who is stealing bribe money, collecting $1,000 in bribe money from your colleagues, then eventually, planning a party.

    You can obtain a bottle of liqueur from Dong by talking to him, asking why he's so glum, then say I’ll take it to him (for 100 Authority). You can buy the snacks from Serena for $300. You must next get some "ladies" for the party, either by asking Marco about it or going searching from your door at home. Call the pimp from home, then select 2 ladies the next day just outside security.

    Finally, once the party starts, you must tell Ferguson you like it, then successfully make it "livelier" for him. Talk to the two people on the ground immediately to your left and draw a second sexual organ on his face. Move left, talk to the woman in the cage, then offer her vodka. Now move left into the next room and talk to the couple near the safe: choose the blue pill (illusions). Next, talk to the couple just to the left in the foreground and give him a light. Talk to the DJ at the desk and toast to Comrade Ferguson. Finally, talk to Ferguson himself again.

  • Win the Supergame

    On the 12th floor, you will take part in a win-or-die competition called the Supergame. As soon as the round with you involved starts, every form you process correctly also earns you 10 points in the Supergame. Your team will also contribute some over time but you can basically win this game by yourself by processing 50 forms and attaining the 500 point goal.

  • Help Mulphy accept the truth

    This is another multiple-step trophy. On the 12th floor, on the same day that your Supergame starts, Rose Everdeen will ask you to find four participants for a quiz team. You can recruit various people from inside the Ministry building, one man just outside and three by going out from your door at home. Complete this task then the following day, Rose will ask you to talk to Gloria Melfi about why her son didn't show up for the quiz. Talk to Gloria, then return to Rose Everdeen, tell about Gloria’s son and come up with a convincing excuse (otherwise Melfi will be removed). Next, ask about the archive. You may or may not have to have searched Melfi's computer at this point. At home, call the Archive, then request information about Gloria Melfi. Call the psychiatric hospital and tell them you're an employee of the Ministry, then agree to the experiment. Finally, talk to Gloria Melfi and ask about her son. Exhaust all conversation choices, then back out and pretend to be Gloria's son. Choose: School No. 0261, Pride and Prejudice and the Leader, The Extraordinary Adventures of Cast-Iron Man, On the embankment, then agree.

  • For everything else, there's mafia

    Multiple steps are needed for this trophy as well. On the 12th floor, you will meet one of your co-workers named John Smith and after your first day there, you will receive a call from Cunningham at home about him. Call the Archive and request information about John Smith. Call Cunningham back to receive a new task. Next, talk to John Smith, asking who he is, which costs 500 Authority. At home, use the phone to call the Archive, requesting information about Anthony Solerno. Next, talk to John Smith again, tell him about the handler and agree to gain another new task. Use the phone at home to call the Archive and request information about Anthony Solerno's family. You will then have to search for Fat Tony's family from your door at home (ask the police what happened, ask to examine the crime scene, offer $300, inspect the bedroom, examine the dressing table). Now talk to John Smith (AKA Fat Tony) once more and tell him about the fire. As you walk outside towards the subway after this, you'll be forced to talk to a stranger just before getting there - refuse to help the stranger. Report back to John Smith, tell him about the mafia and you'll receive a final task to help him escape. You need to obtain a dress (from Melfi's desk), a wig (buy from Nathan Kehler or the 12th floor courier, Nikolai Page, for more money) and a fake pass (buy from Nathan Kehler) and give all these items to John Smith to help him escape.

  • Replace twins

    This is another long and involved trophy. On the 12th floor, you will meet a co-worker named Hank Wright and you will learn that he is angry and needs to drink. Give him whiskey (buy from Nathan Kehler or Nikolai Page for more money), ask why he drinks, then spend 150 Authority and offer help to receive a new task. Now talk with Nikolai Page and Werner Otto about Hank's brother. Next, talk to the guard near the security booth about people exiting the Ministry, using 300 Authority. At home, go to Nathan Kehler's and buy a memory unit for $300. Return this to Werner Otto, then talk to Hank Wright again. Next you'll need to wait at DeSalvo's door (pick wait/clock, costing 1:30) to enter his unoccupied office. Hack DeSalvo’s terminal, looking at all photos and especially emails.

    At home, use the door and choose go to the dog show. Now choose: Talk to the guard, Bribe with $500, Ask about his dog and you will learn the password for DeSalvo's terminal. Head back to DeSalvo's office and choose clock/wait at his door again (costs 1:30). Hack DeSalvo’s terminal again and enter password in the left folder, opening a secret staircase. Now head downstairs and to the left. Talk with Rabindranath Wright, search the desk next to him, grabbing the scalpel, then free him. When DeSalvo shows up, negotiate release, then agree. Finally, talk to Hank Wright about his brother and he will go to replace him.

  • Organize the escape of Maria Curee

    Another multi-part trophy. On the 25th floor, you will meet a co-worker named Maria Curee, whom nobody can understand. Oliver Vertinsky will give you a task to figure out why she isn't working soon after your arrival on that floor. Search the stand in the middle of Weinberg's office to find the Polyglot foreign language book. Spend one hour at home reading that book, then talk to Maria Curee the following day, learning all about her life. Next, talk with the guard next to her. Return to Oliver now, tell him why Curie doesn't work and convince him that she needs an interpreter (costs $1,000). The next day, talk to Maria Curie about the interpreter, suggest contacting the embassy and call yourself. At home, use the phone to call the South Borean Embassy. The following day, you will hear that Maria Curie has gone missing.

  • Vaccinate all Carl clones

    Yet another multi-step trophy. After your first day on the 25th floor and after meeting your co-worker Horatio Newport, you'll return home to find Horatio Newport from the future in your apartment. Hear him out, thrn he'll ask you to initiate protocol B on his computer. Break into Horatio's office, hack his computer, then select option B inside the top folder. When you return home, future-Horatio will appear again, asking you to vaccinate the clones and giving you the vaccine. You now just have to vaccinate each of the 5 clones on the 25th floor that work near Oliver Vertinsky. This will cost you 100 Authority each unless you have established friendship with Horatio by watching and discussing his TV show 3 times (see Extended Friendship), then asked him about clone vaccination. It will also eventually get you in trouble with Weinberg.

  • Solve environmental problems

    Multiple steps for this one as well. On the 25th floor, you will meet a co-worker named Stephen Dawking. After you become friends with him by watching and discussing his favorite TV show, Quantum Junk Heap, 3 times, you will have a new option available to ask him about work. He will then offer you a new task to obtain a certificate of disability for him. From home, you can use the door to go to get him this certificate. Choose Proof of disability, Get the certificate and you will receive the certificate you want. Return this to Dawking, then offer help to receive a new task. Talk to him about solving the suburb's problems to learn more about your task. There are several different ways to complete this. You can talk to Oliver Vertinsky and use Authority points to obtain an antidote, which you can return to Dawking. Alternatively, you can go talk to Weinberg and call for help in the suburbs, then return to Dawking and suggest official organ deliveries. Completing this task earns you the trophy.

  • Read the testaments of Isaac Weinberg

    After you complete the Carl Zero task for Weinberg (see Doesn't look like anything to me), Weinberg will give you his book, the Canon of Clones. You can also find a copy if you search his desk. Reading this book costs one hour and earns you the trophy.

  • Get promoted to Floor 12

    Story related, can't be missed.

    Earn 15,000 Authority (complete the Competitive Environment task on the work phone by eliminating your 3 co-workers to earn 10,000 Authority and earn the rest by completing other tasks or by processing forms) and use the work phone to call and request a promotion on the 1st floor.

  • Get promoted to Floor 25

    Story related, can't be missed.

    Earn 15,000 Authority (complete the Competitive Environment task on the work phone by eliminating your 3 co-workers to earn 10,000 Authority and earn the rest by completing other tasks or by processing forms) and use the work phone to call and request a promotion on the 12th floor.

  • Get promoted to Floor 37

    Story related, can't be missed.

    Earn 15,000 Authority (complete the Competitive Environment task on the work phone by eliminating your 3 co-workers to earn 10,000 Authority and earn the rest by completing other tasks or by completing clones) and use the work phone to call and request a promotion on the 25th floor.

  • Processed 100 forms at Floor 1

    Simply finish processing 100 forms in your office on the 1st floor. You'll do this by assigning the correct form, ministry and office for each person's story.

  • Processed 100 forms at Floor 12

    Simply finish processing 100 forms in your office on the 12th floor. You'll do this by following the ever-changing rules (or not if they don't apply) and putting 3 stamps on each form.

  • Processed 100 objects at Floor 25

    Simply complete 100 clones in your office on the 25th floor. You'll do this by assigning up to 5 panels of attributes to a clone to try to approximate one of four changing occupational templates, lighting at least 5 of the 10 lights for it to count as complete.

  • Destroy the repeaters

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose Connect independent circuits (you will need 50 Heimdall codes).

  • Sacrifice yourself

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose Isolate Heimdall (you will need 0 Heimdall codes).

  • And let no one leave offended!

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose "Happiness for all! Free of charge!" (you will need 200 Heimdall codes).

  • Use Heimdall for your own purposes

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose GODMODE (you will need 200 Heimdall codes).

  • Enforce free will for people

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose "You've got to jump off cliffs etc." (you will need 250 Heimdall codes).

  • Transfer the Heimdall control to Ferguson

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose Add administrator, Ferguson (you will need 100 Heimdall codes and he needs to be alive/not in jail).

Secret trophies

  • Write reports to all competitors

    This is quite possibly the most difficult trophy to earn in the game because it spans nearly the entire game and there are many ways to miss it. It requires that you personally report each of the nine co-workers you'll meet on the three different floors for misconduct and have them arrested. They cannot die or be removed in any other way. On the 1st floor, you can report Marco Legrand when you learn he is a drug dealer or when you find the gun in his desk, you can report Emma Hazer after you give/sell her the 2nd dose of the stimulants and for Peter Dong you'll have to plant an illegal item in his desk.

    On the 12th floor, you can report John Smith when you find the gun in his desk after finding his family and reporting that the mafia awaits him outside the building but for both Gloria Melfi and Hank Wright, you'll have to plant an illegal item in their desk.

    On the 25th floor, you can report Stephen Dawking after learning about his trips to the factory but for both Horatio Newport and Maria Curie, you'll have to plant an illegal item in their desk. You must use the work phone on each floor to report your co-workers.

  • All sugar is in limited supply

    This is another long, multi-part trophy. On the second day of the game, you'll talk to Magda Rakovich and she will ask you to retrieve Hemnitz's pass from the lost and found by security. Once you do this and return it to her, she'll ask you to find a file for her. You can find this file by searching the paper cart nearest to Marco Legrand's office (furthest left). Upon returning this file to Magda, she will leave her desk, allowing you to hack her terminal, read all her emails and zoom in on her photo. The next time you come back to see Magda (after she's returned to her desk), you can ask about helping the orphanage and offer to help. Your next task will be to spend 8 hours searching the file cabinet next to Magda's desk to find the food voucher. Giving this to Magda will open a new task: Going to find a maker of insulin.

    From home, select your door and choose: Go to the old river port, Go to barge at the pier, Inspect the barge, Examine the things, Take the wires, Go back, Go along the railroad tracks, Go to the tunnel, Connect wires, Enter tunnel, Ask why he's hiding, Ask for insulin. When you return to Magda and tell her about the insulin, you'll receive yet another task. You must wait at Ferguson's door, then hack his terminal inside his unoccupied office. Input "207/1" into the left folder form and send. On the next form, change Food to "Biscuits" and Heating to "Permission to collect dead wood," then send. Head back out to talk to Magda about the soap supply request to receive the final task of this long trophy.

    At home, use the phone to call the Archive, spend 1000 Authority to request child's personal data, say Female, 6 February 1980, Number 214782, Mother's information, House of Misfits and you'll be given the name Nina Rakitich. Upon returning to Magda and sharing information about her granddaughter, you'll finally earn this trophy.

  • Arrange an explosion in the Ministry

    At the end of roughly your 4th day at the Ministry, upon your return home, a stranger from New Tomorrow will knock on your door and ask you to complete a task for them. Agree to the task, then give the microchip to Nicholas Page (the courier on the 1st floor), saying "The sky is always blue over the statue of the Leader". This will earn you $2,500 and the trophy but will also end your day.

  • Make Emma Hazer overdose

    This is another multiple-step trophy. On roughly the 5th day of the game, there will be a stranger outside the Ministry building on your way in. If you talk to the stranger, he will ask you to deliver an envelope to Marco Legrand. Open the envelope when given the opportunity, then deliver it to Marco, choosing to learn more. Talk to Serena (the snack lady) and propose a deal. Then you must head right one screen and interact with the vending machine. Examine the machine, take apart (using the screwdriver found in Peter Dong's desk) and you'll take its power unit. Go back left to Serena, discuss the vending machine and tell her the results. Now talk to Marco, find out what he wants, agree, then you will receive 3 stimulants. Next talk to Emma, offer a productivity aid, persuade (costing 500 Authority) and she'll take the stimulant. You must hide the remaining stimulants in your paper cart (you cannot take them through security) and then sell or give them to Emma three more times over the next three days (you'll have to buy one more stimulant for $1,000 from the landscaper in the assembly area). On the final day, Ferguson will call you into his office on the way in and you'll have to spend money or Authority to avoid arrest. Upon giving Emma the 4th dose, she will overdose and die, earning you the trophy.

  • Seduce Emma Hazer

    Early in the game while on the 1st floor, you will meet your co-worker Emma Hazer. Talk with her again after introducing yourself, select general chat, flirt, invite into the storeroom and offer $500. This will earn you the trophy but will also cost you multiple large bills for immoral behaviour and STD treatment.

  • Drive Dong mad

    After you complete the first 3 pranks on Peter Dong as part of Marco Legrand's task (sending out the mass email from Dong's computer, giving him laxatives and putting the bag of bugs in his desk), talk to Marco about pranking Dong again to get another task. Now talk to Emma (you must have already achieved friendship with her by watching and discussing the TV show Passion of the Leader three times with her), suggest undressing Dong in the toilet, then remind her of a scene from Passion of the Leader. Dong gets pranked again. The following day, you'll arrive to find Dong on a shooting rampage. Comfort (using 2000 Authority) and you'll earn the trophy.

  • Set up Marco Legrand

    Hack Marco's computer and read all of his emails. Now talk to Marco, general chat and talk about the inheritance. Next, talk to Peter Dong about getting revenge on Marco (you must have already achieved friendship with Dong by watching and discussing the TV show Patriot Adventures three times with him) tell him that Legrand needs money, then enjoy the cutscene.

  • Find office 101

    On roughly your 3rd day of the game, a Stranger will appear in the lines (one screen right of your 1st floor work area) with whom you can interact. Talking to him will give you the task of finding Window 101. Ask Nicholas Page (the courier) about Window 101, which will make footsteps appear that you can track. Follow these to the left and click on them to continue down the hallway instead of going further into Ferguson’s office, earning you the trophy.

  • Participate in De Salvo's activities

    See Soap Opera. Do exactly the same steps but when you find Rabindranath Wright, search the desk next to him, grabbing the scalpel, then choose to torture him and continue when DeSalvo arrives.

  • After you have accomplished the series of tasks to earn Soap Opera and/or DOKA 2 and have left the hidden room, return to DeSalvo's office and ask what he wants. He will ask you to push a paper cart (which has now appeared in his office) into the shredder. After you complete this task (ignoring or saving the man in the cart), several days later, you will be summoned to see DeSalvo in his office on your way into work. Agree to work with Albert, then head right to the shredder area and talk to the Stranger who yells near the shredder. Spend 900 Authority to lure him into DeSalvo's office, talk to DeSalvo about the victim, then watch the cutscenes. Choose Refuse.

    Head right, up to DeSalvo's office, search his desk and take the remote. Return downstairs to the left and interact with the podium. Choose to save the child to earn the trophy. You can earn both this and Simple Math by making a save before interacting with the podium.

    See As Pure As Child's Tears but choose to save the people instead. You can earn both this and As Pure As Child's Tears by making a save before interacting with the podium.

  • Lose the Supergame

    After being promoted to the 12th floor, on your 2nd day there, you will witness the end of the previous Supergame. The following day, upon arrival to the 12th floor, the next Supergame will start with you as a participant. Just advance time 8 days, not doing any work (simply go home immediately, pay bills and sleep each day - don't even go into the building until the 8th day). Upon your return to the 12th floor on the 8th day, you will lose the Supergame and die, earning the trophy.

  • Express distrust to Isaac's testaments

    On the 25th floor, after reading the Canon of Clones book, return to talk to Weinberg in his office. Talk about the Canon of Clones and insult his religious sensibilities. You will be arrested but will earn the trophy.

  • Transfer the Heimdall control to the cunning asshole

    One of the ending choices. At the final terminal, choose Add administrator, Hemnitz (you will need 150 Heimdall codes).

  • Kill the Wise Leader

    On the 37th floor, you'll talk with Hemnitz. Exhaust all your conversation choices except for asking why I'm here. Selecting the other choices will give you the passwords for the next step. Using the terminal on the left side of the room, select the Wise Leader icon to make him pop up in the middle of the room. Go talk to the Wise Leader, exhaust all conversation options and he will ask you to kill him. Agree and you will earn the trophy. You can earn both this and Destiny of Pillow by making and reloading a save just before this.

  • Don't kill the Wise Leader

    On the 37th floor, you'll talk with Hemnitz. Exhaust all your conversation choices except for asking why I'm here. Selecting the other choices will give you the passwords for the next step. Using the terminal on the left side of the room, select the Wise Leader icon to make him pop up in the middle of the room. Go talk to the Wise Leader, exhaust all conversation options and he will ask you to kill him. Agree and you will earn the trophy. You can earn both this and Destiny of Pillow by making and reloading a save just before this.

  • Don't hang up in the name of love!

    Following roughly your fourth day of the game, upon returning home, your wife will call your apartment phone. Answer it and talk with her, then pick "Continue the conversation" but not "Hang up" to repeat the last lines over again. You need to repeat this 10-15 times to earn the trophy (just repeat until the trophy pops).

  • Die of the Leader's Mustache in the explosion

    At almost any point in the game, while at home, you can select your door and choose "Go to the square". Now choose to remain silent and watch, then continue watching. You will die but earn the trophy.

  • Give money to the swindler

    On roughly your third day of the game, upon returning home, a man named Simon Valois will knock on your door and introduce himself as the landlord. Donate $100 to him to earn the trophy.

  • Bring Carl to tears. Too much Carl in this game!

    On the 25th floor, after completing Isaac Weinberg's first task of installing patriotism emitters and productivity amplifiers, he will ask you to take a personality test, which you can do using the work phone on that floor. Once completed, talk to Weinberg again and he will show you his throne room and Carl Zero, assigning you the new task of finding out more information about Carl Zero.

    Talk to Oliver Vertinsky and Stephen Dawking about Carl Zero, then at home, call the Archive and request information about Carl Stein. Also from home, select the door and choose to go to 6 Krushvice St. Exhaust all the choices, then you’ll learn a great deal about Carl's life. Return to talk to Weinberg in his office, then report on Carl Stein and confirm. Now choose: So I could study at the university, Schimmer gave me a book, Andrea Gorchik, Candy, Naira, Little sun, Get the prohibited medicine, Went to work at the mine, Died.
