Backgammon Blitz is a backgammon game for Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita. You can play Traditional mode, Blitz mode or online, which includes Vita players being able to play against PS4 players. It is a fairly simple game to get 100% on, however those who have never played backgammon before may wish to read about some different strategies used to win at backgammon.

Step 1: Single player mode

When you load up the game for the first time choose Learn To Play from the menu, just follow this all the way through for your first trophy:

Learning the Ropes

Now it's onto the main game itself, you can choose from two modes traditional and blitz. The difference is that in blitz mode you can choose power-ups. There is a trophy for using every single power up, so my advice would be to only play blitz mode until you have obtained all the single player trophies. Just keep playing over and over, you can set the difficulty to beginner and then follow the instructions for each specific trophy.

Trophies earned in this step:

Seeing Double
Pinched my Nip
No Respite
Up the Ante
Full House
Mixing It Up

Step 2: Multiplayer

The final step is getting the multiplayer trophies, one of which is local and the other two are online. You will most likely have to use the Trophy Boosting thread to find someone to play with online. Only 1 controller is needed for Like the Olden Days. Just follow the specific instructions in the guide for the best way to get them and you will have 100% on Backgammon Blitz.

Trophies earned in this step:

Like the Olden Days
Underdog - Unobtainable due to server closure
Triple Winner - Unobtainable due to server closure

  • Win by a Gammon

There are two types of win in Backgammon, one is called a Gammon and the other is called a Backgammon.

To win by a gammon you must have all your pieces home before your opponent has any. If your opponent has 1 piece or more home then it will just be a standard win.

My advice would be to just play on Beginner difficulty, Backgammon is a very easy game to play and win at especially on this setting.

Full details on what winning by a Backgammon means, please refer to the Backgammon trophy for more details.

  • Roll a double of each number

You will just need to roll a double; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 at some point over your play time. This will just come naturally as you play, you could get it in your first game if you are really lucky but it will likely take 3-4 games.

  • Take an opponent's nip

A nip refers to your opponents playing piece. Simply move your own playing piece onto a spot where your opponent has a single piece, this results in your opponents piece going back to the start and you receiving this trophy.

  • Block all 6 of the home board points

For this you will need to have at least 2 pieces on each stack of the home board. The home board refers to the area you need to get all of your pieces into, if you are playing as White it will be the bottom right and as black it will be the top right. I manage to do this quite often as it is an easy way to win and make your opponent struggle. At the start of the game both players have 5 pieces on the left most section of their home board and two spaces to the left of that you have another 3.

On your home board you always want to get at least two pieces on top of each other, as if you only have one your opponent can land on that space. A good way to start is that if you roll a 2 and a 4 or a 3 and a 5, you can move the one of each of the stack I mentioned to the same spot in the home board without risking losing one. You just need to repeat this basic process gradually moving all your pieces across. You will most likely need to keep knocking your opponents pieces out.

Once you have at least two pieces on each stack of your home board, your opponent will be completely blocked. The trophy should then pop and, if your opponent has a piece waiting to come back onto the board, they will be unable to move any pieces until you unblock a space.

  • Play 5 local multiplayer games

Only 1 controller/Vita is needed for this trophy.

This is not as long as it sounds as you don't actually need to play the whole game with a 2nd player 5 times.

Start up a local 2 player game, roll the dice and make the first move. Now press to double, and press to reject it and player 1 will win the game. Repeat the process 4 more times and you will have the trophy.

  • Complete all tutorials

When you load the game, just select Learn To Play from the main menu. Follow the tutorials all the way through to the end, there are 9 in total. Note: If like me you downloaded the trial first (which just consists of the tutorial) then when you buy the full game you will just need to replay one of the tutorials for the trophy to pop.

  • Re-Double the stakes of a game

This is a very simple trophy, once a game starts and the first move has been made you will be able to press to make an offer to your opponent to re-double the stakes of a game. When the opponents accepts, the trophy will pop. My advice would be to do this as soon as the game starts and the A.I will never reject, as rejecting it results in a forfeit of the game.

  • Win an online game against a player with a higher rank

First you will most likely need to visit the Trophy Boosting Thread to find someone to play with. Simply win a game against a player who has a higher online rank than you. For more details on how to boost this online see Triple Winner.

  • Use 3 different Power-Ups in a single game

Power-ups can only be used in the Blitz game mode. All you need to do is use 3 of them in one game. For further details on how to unlock them see Full House.

  • Use every Power-Up at least once

For this trophy you must be playing the Blitz game mode, there are 8 power-ups in total:

    Bodyguard (Unlocked by default)
One Die (Unlocked after 2 games or for 150 Bullion)
Switch (Unlocked after 4 games or for 400 Bullion)
Knockout (Unlocked after 8 games or for 900 Bullion)
Frozen (Unlocked after 16 games or for 1650 Bullions)
Overload (Unlocked after 32 games or for 2650 Bullion)
The Joker (Unlocked after 64 games or for 3900 Bullion)
On Fire (Unlocked after 128 games or for 5400 Bullion)

Every time a power-up is unlocked you are given 1 to use, therefore once they are all unlocked you just have to use the free one you are given of each to unlock the trophy.

Just for a rough guide, after 25 games I had paid to unlock On Fire, was 7 games away from unlocking Overload and has 1246 Bullion that I was saving to unlock the Joker power-up.

  • Win 3 online games in a row

First you will most likely need to visit the Trophy Boosting Thread to find someone to play with. All you have to do is win 3 online games in a row.

    Boosting Method

Create an online session with your partner and set the limit to 15 points.

Roll the dice and make the first move. Now the player who is going to win 3 in a row needs to press when it is their go to offer a double stake. The other players needs to press to reject and forfeit the game. Repeat this process 3 times and the trophy will unlock. Now do the same again for the other player. During this one of you should be a higher rank, if the other person hasn't unlocked the Underdog trophy, then I would suggest the other player keeps winning using this quick method until they are a higher rank and then let the other person win.

  • Win by a Backgammon

To unlock this trophy you need to win by a Backgammon.

You win by a Backgammon by playing all your pieces home before your opponent has place any home and your opponent must have a piece on your home table. This will give you 3 points for winning instead of the usual 2.

The 2 following images show how I won by a Backgammon:

  • Win a game on all 4 Backgammon sets

This is a very easy Gold trophy, when you start a game you can choose what table to play on and there are 4 in total:

Simply win a game on each and this trophy will be yours!
