Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk FAQ/Walkthrough - GameFAQs (by Malduke)

Introduction:
Atelier Ayesha ~The Alchemist of Dusk~ is the fourth Atelier game on the PS3 and the first of the Dusk saga. You play as Ayesha Altugle a young apothecary who lives in her secluded workshop with her pet cow, Pana. Throughout the game you'll synthesise items and defeat enemies on your quest to find out what happened to your sister, Nio.

Trophy-wise, Atelier Ayesha is very easy, as long as you are aware of the Character Events (particularly the highly missable ones). Most trophies are tied to Character Events and the 10 different endings, with only a few miscellaneous trophies. Fortunately in Atelier Ayesha, you can select which ending you want at the ending of the game, so you won't have to make separate saves to meet the requirements for each ending like in the previous Atelier games. All the required Character Events are listed in the guide so as long as you follow it, you should have no issues obtaining all trophies in a single playthrough.

While it isn't necessary, there is also a fantastic Atelier Ayesha Walkthrough on GameFAQs (courtesy of Malduke) that may help you if you get stuck - if you do choose to follow this, don't be concerned if you can't keep up with it date-wise, as that walkthrough leaves you with 19 months spare time in post-game. I also have a section at the end of the guide that will help with most of the miscellaneous and non-trophy related information: Tips and Tricks.

Step 1: Play through the game normally completing all Character Events, until you gain access to Yggdrasil.
First of all, you'll want to play through the game normally and keep an eye out for Character Events as you play. Variety is key here, as long as you change up your party every so often you'll manage to get most of the Character Events without even trying. The only trophies that are truly missable during this section are Grand Champion and Building Block, which are easy to ensure as long as you win every Treasure Trove Contest when they become available and ensure you complete Keithgriff's Character Events when possible. See these trophies for further details. Also ensure to write any Memories you unlock into Ayesha's Diary, as this will go towards the three Memory trophies.

One thing to note is that for every trophy except the miscellaneous trophies, they will unlock upon seeing a CG image, so don't panic if you think a trophy hasn't unlocked.

While you're playing, there are several non-trophy related goals that I highly recommend you complete. The reason for this is they can result in you getting gear that can shorten harvest time or world travel time, which will make the three years last a lot longer. For further details, please see the Tips and Tricks section at the end of the guide.

Once you reach the point of the game where Yggdrasil becomes accessible, save your game and either rest until the end of the game, or simply walk around the world map until the end of the game. By doing this, you’ll receive the normal ending (and in turn The End of the Journey). With that out of the way, you can move onto Step 2.

Upon completing Step 1, you will earn:

What were you doing?
Amusing Ayesha
Bazaar!
Thrilling Treasure Contest
Flower Smell
Big Sister's Heart
Dress Up
Feeding
Building Block
Ernie's Long Legs
One Who Rules the Land
One Who Rules the Sky
The End of the Journey
First Victory!
A Flower of Memories
A Bouquet of Memories
A Garden of Memories

Step 2: Reload your save before Yggdrasil, then play through until you defeat the final boss.
Now that you've got the normal ending out of the way you can continue progressing through the story until you defeat the final boss, Yggdrasil. The game will continue into post-game after defeating Yggdrasil, see Step 3 for further information.

Upon completing Step 2, you will earn:

Reunion

Step 3: Achieve all post-game Character Events.
Now that you're into the post-game, you can work towards completing everyone's Character Events for the remaining Character Event trophies and to meet the requirements for all the endings. You'll receive a Goal in your notebook for each character, called *Helping [Character] Out*, which indicates that you have not met the requirements for that character's ending. Once these Goals are listed as complete, that character's ending has been met.

You'll also want to reach Alchemy and Battle Level 50 during this step, but that shouldn't be a concern at all. I had over a year left by the time I entered post-game, so there is plenty of time to fight enemies and synthesise to Level 50. Simply synthesise high-level items and complete any (Info) or (Alt.) goals you receive to reach the level caps quickly.

Once you've met the ending requirements and obtained all the miscellaneous trophies, you should have every trophy except the nine remaining endings. If this is the case, feel free to rest until the end; just make sure you make a save before Year 4, 4/1 which you can reload for the endings.

Upon completing Step 3, you will earn:

Wind Ruler
The Last Labor
The Two
Ancient Dragon Slaying
At Paradise
Sending Sheep
Sisters Thereafter
To Them
Grand Champion!
One High Point
Another High Point

Step 4: Achieve the remaining endings.
Now that you've met all the ending requirements, use the save you made at the end of Step 3 to grind out the endings. Once you reach Year 4, 4/1, you'll see a scene with Nio at the workshop and be given a selection of choices, with each one giving you a different ending. Simply go through all these options to complete all the endings.

Upon completing Step 4, you will earn:

The Witch and the Alchemist
Future of a Female Prospector
And the Trio
Hunter Life
Search for the Truth
Working Ma'am
Girls Gathering!
Treasure Hunter
Sage's Hermitage

Which will ultimately unlock:

All Trophies Earned

  • All Trophies Earned.

You learnt what happened to Nio and became a master of alchemy in the process, congratulations!

Secret trophies

  • Ernie came to the workshop when you were in a rush.

You'll get this trophy very early in the game while watching the opening cutscenes. Ernie will visit you at your workshop and you'll earn the trophy.

  • You dropped your wallet, and a weird girl saved you.

After gaining access to Harry's Room in Vierzeberg, leave the room to initiate an event involving Wilbell. The trophy will unlock here.

  • You took part in Vierzeberg's bazaar.

In order to earn this, you must visit Bazaar Street in Vierzeberg between the 10th and 19th of any month. The first time you do this (the earliest time being 10/5, Year 1), you'll initiate an event with Harry thus earning the trophy.

  • You took part in Harry's Contest.

Harry's Contest is the Treasure Trove Contest or 'Thrilling Treasure Contest' as he prefers to call it and is held twice each year, during the 6th/7th months and the 12th/1st months. Soon after Harry tells you about the Bazaar, you'll initiate an event at Black Cat's Path where Harry and Marietta are talking about the contest. After seeing this scene, talk to Marietta in Black Cat's Path. She will ask you if you want to complete, say yes and you'll see a CG image thus getting the trophy.

Do note that for the Treasure Hunter ending, and in turn the True Ending, Sage's Hermitage, you must win all six contests. Because of this, make sure to save before you take part in the contest and reload if you lose. Please see Treasure Hunter for further details.

  • You were reunited with Nio in a surreal place.

After visiting Zweiteturm for the first time and receiving the Frayed Book, you'll receive a few goals regarding new flowers: *Centennial Flower* and *Rainflower*. The latter is easier to reach, but requires Alchemy Level 30 so completing Centennial Flower first is recommended. This will predominantly require you to travel to a new location, Hornheim, and create several Tonics. A recipe for the Tonic can be purchased in Hornheim.

After collecting both the Centennial Flower and Rainflower return to Vierzeberg and you'll then have to collect two more flowers, with four being available. Two of these won't be available until Year 2, 11/11, so it is easier to get the first two flowers as you won't have to wait several months before they become available. These two easier flowers can be obtained by completing Marietta's 'Sweet Sparkles' Character Event set and Nanaca's 'Nio Can't Come Home' Character Event set. See Girls Gathering! for how to complete these sets.

If you want to gather the later flowers, you must be in Hornheim on Year 2, 11/11, then travel to Riesengang - Lower (which is unlocked by having Regina in your party when in Oesten Marsh - Swamp). Doing this will give you both flowers.

Once you have at least two of the four available flowers and have also completed Keithgriff's "convincing item" request, travel back to Vierzeberg for a special scene where you’ll earn this trophy.

  • You accomplished your goal of reuniting with Nio.

In order to receive this, you must defeat the final boss, Yggdrasil. You'll be able to do this after you've created the Slag Transmitter and given it to Nio. Even though Yggdrasil is the final boss, he is actually the easiest main boss.

Yggdrasil's attacks are mostly Area-Of-Effect, so it is recommended you keep your characters separated. Its attacks are mostly a non-issue, with the only concerning attack being Dusk's Light, which attacks the entire battlefield and deals decent damage. However as long as you use healing items, there shouldn't be any concern with it. As for attacking him I recommend you use as many timed attacks as possible such as the Himmel-Shenk item, or skills like Juris' Rain of Shots and Keithgriff's Double Up or Mirage Trick.

I fought Yggdrasil using Ayesha, Keithgriff and Juris at roughly Battle Level 45, which was more than enough to win.

Once you defeat Yggdrasil, you'll see a scene with Nio where you'll receive this trophy.

  • You went with Wilbell to accomplish her task.

    Missable.

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Wilbell's Character Events, particularly the 'Friends I Can Rely On' set. The trophy will unlock upon defeating the Wind Ruler, Wilbell's second last event. Highly Missable!

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Linca's Character Events, particularly the '8 Lincas' set. The trophy will unlock upon fighting Linca at Oesten Marsh, Linca's fifth last event. Do note that any events that say World Map require you to have Linca in your party to trigger. 'Cooking' must be completed before 'Looking for Myself' can be initiated, and 'Looking for Myself' must be completed before '8 Lincas' can be initiated.

This trophy is highly missable because if you defeat the Old Oath Dragon without Linca, you won't be able to progress any further. Therefore, it is paramount you ensure you have Linca in your party when you face the dragon.

  • You saw Keith enjoying his hobby.

    Highly Missable!

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Keithgriff’s Character Events, particularly the 'Large Slag' set. Do note that any events that say World Map require you to have Keithgriff in your party to trigger.

You must first deliver a convincing item to Keithgriff as a part of the story before you can initiate his events.

If you defeat Yggdrasil before completing 'History of Alchemy', you won't be able to face Mecha-Dragon or talk to Odelia about the Two Cradles, making Keithgriff's trophies unobtainable during that playthrough.

History of Alchemy - Must be completed before defeating Yggdrasil!

    • Hornheim - Balloon Pier: Keith discusses the history of the valley.
    • World Map (Evershade Woods): Keith talks about human malice and a place to the north of Hornheim (unlocks Steinfeder - must purchase balloon for 20,000 Cole to reach Steinfeder).

    • Zweiteturm - Entrance: Ask Odelia about the Two Cradles.

    Large Slag

    • Vierzeberg - Hill Plaza: Ayesha forgets something important (available from Year 3 post-game onwards).
    • Hornheim - White Crow: Ayesha asks Kyle about a big slag.
    • Decayed Ruin Island: Defeat the Rampage Dragon.

Rampage Dragon is the hardest required boss battle in the game. Defeating it will either require ultimate equipment or a good strategy with strong items for Ayesha. I chose the latter:

The basic strategy I used was to create a high-quality God's Miracle Drug with the Continuation property. This item will essentially act as a full heal on your party, and Continuation will allow it to activate a second time as a timed usage. Register this with Marietta and purchase at least half a dozen for the fight.

With the item, you can use it every second or third turn of Ayesha's to maintain full health. When you don't need to use God's Miracle Drug as Ayesha you should use items to recover Ayesha MP, as even at Battle Level 50 I could only use two God's Miracle Drugs before my MP was completely depleted. Your allies (in my case, Linca and Keithgriff) should save up their Active Commands to defend Ayesha whenever she gets attacked. This is to ensure Ayesha remains alive the entire battle so that she can use another God's Miracle Drug if need be. Using Ayesha's Concentration ability is also recommended to give Ayesha more turns. A high quality Crystal Charm is another good item to use with Ayesha, as it greatly increases all resistances to those within range.

Beyond that, simply deplete Rampage Dragon's HP by using Super Moves whenever possible, as well as abusing skills. Timed attacks such as Ayesha's Himmel-Shenk, Juris' Rain of Shots or Keithgriff's Mirage Trick and Double Up are very good for dealing constant damage over the course of the battle.

Equipment-wise, I used Soul Trap Chains on everyone for guaranteed critical hits on Rampage Dragon, as well as Phoenix Bracelets for the defense stats. My weapons and armour were only sub-par and still managed to win, so ultimate equipment is by no means required for this battle.

    • Vierzeberg - Hill Plaza: Keith decides to stay and chat - Memory 'Large Slag' unlocked.
    • Zweiteturm - Entrance: Keith is at his own paradise (available from Year 3, 1/1 onwards) - At Paradise trophy unlocks!

Below are Odelia's 'Dreaming Automaton' Character Events, which are required to complete Keithgriff's 'History of Alchemy' set:

    • Zweiteturm - Entrance: Odelia thanks you for fixing the control panel.

  • You dressed Juris up with Regina.

    Missable.

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Regina's Character Events, particularly the 'The Tailor' set. Do note that any events that say World Map require you to have Regina in your party to trigger. 'Exterminating Slags' must be completed before 'The Tailor' can be initiated.

    • Riesengang - Village Plaza: Regina receives a letter from her brother (at least 15 days after previous event).
  • Ernie carried you home safely.

    Missable.

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Ernie's Character Events. The event required for the trophy isn't actually a part of Ernie's two Character Event sets, but I'm not entirely sure whether these previous events are necessary to see the trophy event.

    • Vierzeberg - Harry's Room: Ernie has a delivery request for Ayesha (must visit Ernie on the World Map four times before this will trigger).

If you defeat Yggdrasil, you won't be able to discover Mecha-Dragon, and in turn miss all of Keithgriff's trophies.

In order to unlock this trophy, you must complete Tanya's Character Events. This trophy is earned halfway through the second set of Character Events, 'Future Beautiful Girl'. 'Young Girl's Longing' must be completed before 'Future Beautiful Girl' can be initiated.

    • World Map (Tanya): Tanya and Ayesha visit the hotsprings together - Ernie's Long Legs trophy unlocks!
  • You defeated a powerful land combat-type slag.

Once you create the Flower Crystal as a part of the story, you'll be told to go to Riesengang. Defeat a few slags and enter Riesengang - Middle to face Fortress, the first major boss.

Fortress isn't too difficult to defeat, he simply has a lot of HP. Most of his attacks are Area-Of-Effect, so it's recommended you keep your party separated. Most of its attacks aren't particularly powerful except for Energy Shell, which is a timed attack that can deal some hefty damage. Given it is timed though, you have time to heal up before it hits. Once his HP drops below 50% he'll use an attack called Final Blast which will hit your entire party for about 80HP, so ensure you have 90+ when you get him below 50%.

Other than that, simply use any skills you have to throw on the damage, and use items such as Himmel-Schenk to deal damage over time. Make sure you have a few healing items and use them whenever your HP dips. I used Linca and Juris for this battle, who were more than sufficient for it at Level 39.

  • You defeated a powerful flying-type slag.

    Highly Missable!

This boss is Mecha-Dragon, who you encounter in Steinfeder as a part of Keithgriff's 'History of Alchemy' Character Event. The fight will begin immediately after the scene where you receive Building Block. This fight is only marginally harder than Fortress, and is made easier by the fact that you have Keithgriff for the fight.

Similar to Fortress, Mecha-Dragon mostly uses Area-of-Effect attacks, so keep your party separated. Ice Storm is his only fearsome attack as this does high ice damage, but if you were able to survive through Fortress' Final Blast then you'll survive through Ice Storm.

Once again just spam your skills and, if you get them, your Super Moves. Himmel-Schenk and similar bombs are also good to use if Ayesha doesn't need to heal anyone. Having Soul Trap Chains as your accessories will be beneficial, as they give automatic critical hits on slag-type enemies.

Using Juris and Keithgriff at Level 41, I managed this fairly easily. One thing to be aware of is that if you lose this battle, you won't be able to fight him again - he flys off and is fought at a later stage of Keithgriff's Character Events. Because of this, you will miss the trophy if you lose to Mecha-Dragon. As long as you make sure to save beforehand, you'll be fine.

  • Your long journey ended and your new life began.

    Missable.

The End of the Journey is the Normal Ending for the game. To receive the Normal Ending you must fail to rescue Nio or fail to fulfill any of the nine other endings. This is easy to manipulate, simply by saving before you defeat Yggdrasil and resting until the three years is up.

    • "I have a job for Ernie..."

    • "I have a letter from Mr. Harry..."

When in post-game, you'll receive a Goal in your notebook titled *Helping Keith Out*. This indicates that you haven't met the ending requirements. Once this Goal is complete, the ending requirements have been met.

In the scene with Nio on the final day, she'll ask you a question. In order to select Keith's ending, you must choose the following response:

    • "...I forgot something important."

This will lock you into Keith's ending. The trophy will unlock upon seeing the CG image.

  • You decided to go on a journey with Harry to search for treasures around the world.

    Highly Missable!

In order to meet the requirements for Treasure Hunter, you must win all six of Harry's Thrilling Treasure Contests. These contests are held on the 6th/7th months and 12th/1st months of each year, and can be entered by talking to Marietta at Black Cat's Path.

The basic premise of these contests is to select an item, and whichever contestant receives the most points at the end wins. The points you receive will depend on the item you choose and the judges' preferences, which are listed on the right of the contest screen. In the bottom left of the contest screen is an estimate of each players' score from the item they have selected, so simply selecting an item that has a higher estimate than anyone else is the best way to win the first few contests. However, once you complete Ernie's first set of Character Events you'll receive a one-of-a-kind item called Mellow Animal, which is more or less a guaranteed win for the contests. If you're going to use this item though, make sure to register it with Marietta so you can buy it back. Do note that if you lose any you will have to reload a previous save if you want to meet the ending requirements, so always ensure you save just before each contest.

Once you win the sixth and final Thrilling Treasure Contest, there'll be an event where Harry crowns you the Grand Champion (you'll receive the Grand Champion! trophy here too). This indicates that you have met the ending requirements for Treasure Hunter.

In the scene with Nio on the final day, she'll ask you a question. In order to select the Treasure Hunter ending, you must choose the following responses:

    • "I have a letter from Mr. Harry..."

Once you reach the next question, answer with "I have no plans" to be locked into the Treasure Hunter ending. The trophy will unlock upon seeing the CG image.
