Road Map

Introduction:

This is the finale of the Ar tonelico series. This RPG series, developed by Gust, started on the PS2 with the releases of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica. This game ditches the turn based battle system the previous games had and this time opts for an action style battle system, similar to the Tales series and Star Ocean series. While it is not crucial to play the prequels before playing this one, if you have played them, you will have a better understanding of the story and a few of the recurring characters. The in-game encyclopedia does clear things up for those unfamiliar with the previous games.

This is a rather time consuming platinum, although it is not necessary difficult. This game has many missable trophies, including eight different endings. It can be done in one playthrough if you know where to save, but I recommend three playthroughs for the best results. This game features New Game+, which allows you to pick three different starting spots. You can start at the beginning, Phase 2, or before the Battle of Destiny in Phase 3. Levels, DP, money, and Play Time always carry over. Equipment and Cosmosphere completion does not carry over, but if you choose to start from later in the game, you will have the equipment and Cosmosphere completion you had when you originally reached that point of the game.

Step 1: Play through the game. Get the Bad Ending and (Any) Normal Ending.

Before you start, I recommend that you read the trophy guide for Finnel's True Master and *especially* Saki's Groom. These contain easily missable events that can ruin your chance of completing each Reyvateil's Cosmosphere. As part of the story early on, you have to complete at least level 1 of each girl's Cosmosphere, and Saki has some easily missed events in level 1. This should avoid having to do New Game+ from the very beginning and instead you can always start from Phase 2.

Play though the game normally. Once you reach Phase 2, there will be events, and you have to choose who do you want to protect. Whoever you choose (Saki or Finnel), she will earn a heart. There will be two more choices. Be sure to pick the same Reyvateil for all the choices so she can have three hearts. I personally recommend to do Finnel's route first, since Saki's Cosmosphere is so easy to mess up, but it does not matter. In Phase 3, at Tower Block A, there will be a fight called "Battle of Destiny" where you fight the MYU. Fail to defeat the MYU (simply survive for about 7 minutes, see the MYU guide after the trophy guide). Continue the story and at the save point in Moocheriel, be sure to make a NEW save. Continue, and you will be given a choice. Choose to "Stop her from singing" and you will have a boss battle.

Defeat the boss and you will earn the Bad Ending. You can save the clear data after the ending (this also unlocks the Extras menu from the title screen), but do not overwrite any data. Reload the save at Moocheriel and this time choose "Just watch". Instead of a boss battle at Moocheriel, you will have to climb Tower Block A. Here, there will be a boss battle. Win, and you unlock either Saki Normal Ending or Finnel Normal Ending, depending on who has more hearts. After the ending, save the clear data.

Step 2: True Ending.

From the title screen, load the clear data you have just saved. This triggers New Game+, and you can choose between three starting points. Choose "Battle of Destiny" and you will start on Tower Block A just before the MYU fight. Defeat the MYU (see the MYU guide, located after the trophy guide, for tips, this is a good time to get Purge Carnival), and continue.

In Moocheriel, when you are given a choice, choose "Stop her from singing" and win the boss battle. If done correctly, you will go to Phase 4. Now would be a good time to focus on getting the trophies The Alchemist, The Fighting Machine, The Master of Unlocking, Free of the Rat Race, Mrs. Reyvinson, The Ravager, Save Obsession Syndrome, and either Saki's Groom or Finnel's True Master. See their respective trophy guides for more information. After you complete Phase 4 and defeat the final boss, you will either earn Saki True Ending or Finnel Normal Ending, depending on the Reyvateil you chose. Do not forget to save the clear data.

Step 3: Normal and True Ending with the other Reyvateil.

Load the clear data you just saved after getting the true ending. This time, choose to start from Phase 2. Proceed through the game and when you are give a choice pick a Reyvateil, pick the other one. If you sided with Finnel on your first playthrough, side with Saki this time and vice versa. Be sure to give all your hearts to the same Reyvateil. In Tower Block A, before you make your third heart decision, make a NEW save here and do NOT overwrite it (thanks superpj). In Phase 3, be sure to defeat the MYU within the time limit, although it should be easier this time since you are at a higher level. Continue the story until Moocheriel, and make a NEW save at the save point. When given a choice, choose "Just Watch" and proceed to climb Tower Block A. Defeat the boss there and you will unlock either Saki Normal Ending or Finnel Normal Ending. Reload the Moocheriel save, and this time choose "Stop her from singing" and win the battle. You will reach Phase 4. Be sure to complete the Reyvateil's Cosmosphere to earn either Saki's Groom or Finnel's True Master before you finished the game. After you complete the game, you will unlock either Saki True Ending or Finnel True Ending. Do not forget to save the clear data.

Step 4: Tyria's Normal and True Ending.

Load the save data you had in Tower Block A, before you made your third heart decision. This time give the final heart to the other Reyvateil (thanks again to superpj). If you do not have this file, you can load the clear data you just saved and start again from Phase 2 and do NOT give all the hearts to the same Reyvateil. One Reyvateil should have two hearts and the other just one. Defeat MYU in Phase 3 and choose to "Stop her singing" in Moocheriel. You will proceed to Phase 4, and do not accept any of the Reyvateils in their level 8 Cosmosphere (better yet, do not touch their level 8 at all). Continue the game (do NOT touch Tyria's level 3 Cosmosphere yet) until you reach the point where you have to synthesize the Glasteria Plate. Create a NEW save before you complete Tyria's Cosmosphere and then make the item. Be sure to keep a save before completing Tyria's Cosmosphere as you will need it for Cocona's Ending. Complete Tyria's level 3 Cosmosphere and get all three of her Cosmosphere endings (this unlocks Tyria's Darling).

Rest at an inn and choose to accept Tyria (this unlocks Lovey Dovey with Tyria). Make a different NEW save here, and proceed to make the Glasteria Plate. After some events, you will be given a choice. Choose "I want to save Tyria" and the game will end. You should earn Tyria Normal Ending. Reload the save just before you made the Glasteria Plate and make the required item. When given a choice, this time choose "I'll actually save the world!". Continue to finish Phase 4 as normal and defeat the final boss. After all the events, you will earn Tyria True Ending.

Step 5: Cocona's Ending.

Reload the save before you completed Tyria's level 3 Cosmosphere. Continue the game and do not touch Tyria's level 3 Cosmosphere, and do not touch Saki's or Finnel's level 8 Cosmosphere. Create the Glasteria Plate and proceed to complete the game. You will unlock Cocona Ending after the credits and some following events.

Step 6: Cleanup

If you have followed my road map and trophy guide correctly, you should have unlocked most of the trophies, except for maybe Our Valued Customer (play for 100 hours). If there is anything that you missed, you can use New Game+ and start from the beginning to clean up. Some trophy related Cosmosphere events can be gotten through Cosmosphere Replay in the Extras menu from the title screen (but you cannot get any Cosmosphere completion trophies with this method). If you are done, and need the 100 hour trophy, you can load the save data with the highest play time and leave the game running overnight. I am not responsible for any overheated PS3s though.

After you defeat Mute at the Slave District, you arrive at Clustania.

  • Saw Saki's normal ending.

To get Saki's normal ending, you must have two or three hearts with Saki. The result of the MYU fight in Phase 3 does not matter. In Moocheriel, when you are given a choice on whether to stop Saki's singing, choose "Just watch". Afterwards, you will climb Tower Block A and fight a boss. After you win, you will earn this ending. Trophy unlocks after the credits and following events.

  • Saw Saki's happy ending.

To get Saki's ending, you must reach Phase 4, and have at least two hearts with Saki (three is recommended). To reach Phase 4, you must have defeated MYU within the time limit and have chosen to stop Saki's singing in Moocheriel. If you have three hearts, you are automatically locked into this ending, but with two hearts, you can accept Saki in her level 8 Cosmosphere. Finish Phase 4 and after the credits there will be an event and you should earn this trophy.

While you are on Saki's true path, you should complete her Cosmosphere to earn the Saki's Groom trophy.

  • Unlocked 100% of Saki's CS.

    WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

To unlock this trophy, you must get 100% completion in Saki's Cosmosphere. This is very easy to mess up if do not know what you are doing. When there are various starred locations, you should do the locations with the least amount of importance first (importance appears under the location name when you select it, from * to ***). Starred events with an importance rating less than *** usually are missable, so do them first.

In level 1, there are some easily missed events. After the initial event in Organito Hut, you must return to Organito Hut and when given a choice, choose to take a peek. After that event, you must go to the Stonehenge and view the event. You must do this before going to the World Tree Alfage, or you will miss them.

In level 3, be sure to stop the "Sexy Show". If you have done everything right up to this point, at the completion of level 3, the trophy Saki's Friend should unlock. If not, you missed something.

Before you proceed to Phase 4, ideally before the MYU fight in Phase 3 (although you can do it immediately afterwards), you must dive into Saki's level 7 Cosmosphere. There is a missable event here that disappears once you reach Phase 4. Do all the events that you see until you can go no farther. The missable event in Saki's level 7 Cosmosphere is located at the Ulurua's Egg and unlocks the Hyuma, Ulurua. You cannot complete Saki's level 7 Cosmosphere until you reach phase 4, however. Getting the three required talk topics to dive into level 7 before Phase 4 can be difficult. When you complete Saki's level 6 Cosmosphere, you will get a level 7 topic after you rest. Another level 7 topic appears after some events in Clustania (Phase 3) and you automatically arrive in Akane's House. Go to the bedroom and there you find the level 7 talk topic. To get the third talk topic, you must synthesize a tranquility (the item unsynthesized will appear as ?Injector?). This recipe is found in Lymph Vessel, where you first met Tyria and Filament purges (the event back in Phase 2). You must get this recipe before you fight MYU or this section will get blocked off. Synthesize this item and rest afterwards. This will give you the three required talk topics to dive into level 7.

After you complete level 9, save and quit. Go to the Extras menu at the title screen. Check Saki's Cosmosphere completion. If you have done everything correctly, it should read 98%. If not, you have messed up, and should start a new game to complete it. If you have 98% completion, load your save, and dive back into Saki and there will be a starred location with an event. After the event, this trophy should unlock.

If you need help in completing Saki's Cosmosphere, you can look at this walkthrough. Credit given to drachemeister: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/976762-ar-tonelico-qoga-knell-of-ar-ciel/faqs/62080

  • Unlocked 30% of Finnel's CS.

    See Finnel's True Master.

  • Unlocked 60% of Finnel's CS.

    See Finnel's True Master.

  • Unlocked 100% of Finnel's CS.

To unlock this trophy, you must get 100% completion in Finnel's Cosmosphere. This Cosmosphere is significantly easier to complete than Saki's Cosmosphere, but there are still some missable events. Remember that when there are multiple starred events, do the ones with the least amount of importance first (they appear with a rating from * to *** under the location name when you walk to them). When you first dive into Finnel's levels 2-5, they are actually illusion levels. To "complete" her illusion level 5, you must first meet Teppo in Saki's Cosmosphere. After "completing" her illusion level 5, you are then sent to her real level 2.

After you complete level 9, save and quit. Go to the Extras menu at the title and check Finnel's Cosmosphere completion. If you have done everything correctly, it should read 95%. If not, you have messed up and need to use new game to start over and complete it. If you have 95% completion, load your save, and dive back into Finnel. There are various starred events, and after the last one, this trophy should unlock.

If you need help in completing Finnel's Cosmosphere, you can look at this walkthrough. Credit given to drachemeister: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/976762-ar-tonelico-qoga-knell-of-ar-ciel/faqs/62080

  • Gained a victory in 100 battles!

     See The Fighting Machine.

  • Gained a victory in 200 battles!

    See The Fighting Machine.

  • Gained a victory in 300 battles!

You must win 300 battles. It must be all on the same playthrough. You should get this while going for The Ravager.

  • Played this game for 100 hours.

This is likely the last trophy you will unlock. The in-game timer does not necessary have to reach 100 hours, as the system data file (this saves everytime you save) actually keeps track of how long you have played. I had a file at 96 hours and when I saved, the trophy popped up. If you need more hours, you can leave the game running overnight, but if you do, make sure that the PS3 is well ventilated and dust free.

  • Dug through all treasure chests.

To earn this trophy, you must open all the treasure chests in the game. While none of the treasure chests are missable, the final chest is located in XP Shell past the point of no return. The point of no return is the room above the save point the second time you enter XP Shell. Once you enter, the alarm will sound, and you are given a warning that you cannot go back. The chest is on the left side. If you need a reference, this video shows the location of the final chest. I give credit to TheSkeithMaster for the video (it is from the Japanese version, but it is the same for the North American version).

If you have opened all the chests, the trophy should unlock after opening this chest. If not, do NOT save the game, and load a previous save. Search throughout the game for the missing chest(s). Here are some easily missed locations:

Be sure to get all the chests in the prison in Phase 1 before you go down the cliff. While you can return, it involves making a difficult wall jump.

Return to Blue Heaven Trail in Phase 4, as there will be two more chests past the area where you saved Finnel in Phase 1.

In Garvelt Bridge, there are two chests were you fought the boss in Phase 4. Since you are sent back out immediately after defeating the boss, you have to go through the dungeon again.

If you need help in finding all the treasures, you can look at this walkthrough. Credit given to drachemeister: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/976762-ar-tonelico-qoga-knell-of-ar-ciel/faqs/62080
  • Money hit the maximum value.

The maximum amount of money you can have is 9,999,999 leaf. You will not reach this number by just defeating monsters. Here is an easy way to do this. You must have at least 150,000 leaf and a lot of DP (ideally 99,999 DP for all three Reyvateils). Buy 99 Refracting Capes and 99 Silver Materials. Create 99 Lethal Dresses and then sell them. Repeat the process. Each time, you should profit around 500,000 leaf.

Here is a video that shows how it is done. It is from the Japanese version, but you can still visualize it. Credit given to MasterLL.

  • Someone's DP hit the maximum.

One of your Reyvateils must hit 99,999 DP. You should easily earn this by the end of the game in Phase 4. If not, you can grind for DP in XP Shell, as battles give you a lot of EXP and DP.

Secret trophies

  • Saw Tyria's normal ending.

Tyria is a Reyvateil who joins in Phase 4. To get her normal ending, you cannot give all three hearts to the same Reyvateil. You must complete level 3 of her Cosmosphere BEFORE you synthesize the Glasteria Plate. After you complete level 3, rest at an inn or save point. There will be an event, and you must accept her. After you synthesize the Glasteria Plate, you will be given a choice. Choose "I want to save Tyria" and the game will immediately end. After the credits and the following event, you unlock this trophy.

  • Saw Tyria's happy ending.

To earn Tyria's ending, you must reach Phase 4, and cannot have any Reyvateils with three hearts and you cannot accept any of the Reyvateils in their level 8 Cosmosphere. You must complete level 3 of her Cosmosphere, BEFORE you make the Glasteria Plate, and rest. Accept Tyria in this event (this unlocks the Lovey Dovey with Tyria trophy), and synthesize the Glasteria Plate. Afterwards, you will have a decision. Choose "I'll actually save the world!", and continue to finish Phase 4 normally. Defeat the final boss and watch the ending, credits, and the events. This should pop up.

  • Saw Cocona's ending.

To earn Cocona's ending, you cannot give any of the Reyvateils all three hearts, and you cannot accept them in their level 8 Cosmosphere. Do not accept Tyria if you complete her level 3 Cosmosphere (ideally, do not touch her level 3 Cosmosphere at all). Complete Phase 4 and defeat the final boss, and you will earn this ending. After the events after the credits, this should unlock.

  • Faced Saki's and Finnel's demise.

To get the bad ending, you have to fail to defeat the MYU within the time limit and in Mooncheriel, you must choose to stop Saki's singing. After you stop her singing, you will fight a boss. After you win, you will get this ending.

  • Unlocked 30% of Tyria's CS.

    See Tyria's Darling.

  • Unlocked 60% of Tyria's CS.

    See Tyria's Darling.

  • Unlocked 100% of Tyria's CS.

You must first reach Phase 4, since Tyria joins this late in the game. To earn this trophy, you must complete all three levels of her Cosmosphere. You must earn all three endings (Bad, Normal, and Happy) in her level 3 Cosmosphere. I recommend completing her Cosmosphere while aiming for her endings, although it can be completed on Saki's or Finnel's true paths.

If you need help in completing Tyria's Cosmosphere, you can look at this walkthrough. Credit given to drachemeister: https://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/976762-ar-tonelico-qoga-knell-of-ar-ciel/faqs/62080

  • Fled 100 times.

You must run from battle 100 times, in the same playthrough. To run, when you enter battle, press to bring up the Battle Menu. Choose "Escape". It works 100% of the time (you cannot escape from boss battles, however). I got this while looking for all the treasure chests. Fleeing does not empty the Encounter Bar.

  • Encounter Bar depleted 25 times.

You will likely get this trophy while aiming for The Fighting Machine. You have to deplete the Encounter Bar which is located on the bottom right part of the screen. As you walk around, this bar turns from blue to red, and the closer to red it gets, the more likely you will enter a battle. When you win a battle, the Encounter Bar depletes a little bit, and once it completely depletes, you will no longer have any random encounters as long as you stay in the dungeon. Do this 25 times to earn this trophy. If you want to replete the bar, just leave the area and come back. It will fully replete. Saving and loading does NOT replete the bar.

  • Hit the Panic Button 100 times.

To earn this trophy, you must press during Cosmosphere events. This brings up a random mudane picture that covers the screen. Do this 100 times (around 200 button presses) and this trophy should unlock. It can be done is Cosmosphere Replay from the Extras menu.

  • Saved 100 times.

You should get this as you progress during the game. If not, you can continuously save at the same save point. After 100 saves, this trophy unlocks.

  • Every character reached Level 99.

All six characters must reach level 99, the maximum level. Levels do carry over with New Game+. The best place to grind for EXP is in XP Shell.

  • Took off 3 pieces of clothes at once.

Before you attempt this trophy, you must have completed level 6 with the Reyvateil you attempt to do this with. You must have purge animation set to ON. In battle, keep getting hits on enemies while a red beat (check the Harmograph on the bottom of the screen) to get Beat Ups. Even when the words "Purge Ready", you must continue to get Beat Ups (around 25). You must hold down any three shoulder buttons (, , , ), and while the Harmograph's bar is on a RED beat, shake your controller. If done correctly, you will see the Reyvateil purge three times at once with complete animation and this trophy should pop.

Here is a video on how it looks like. Credit is given to SplitPlaythru. Caution, this video may be NSFW.

  • Heroines Purged 3 times, and Vanguards stripped.

This can be done at the same time as Return to Innocence, although it is not a prerequisite. Before you attempt this, you must have synthesize the ultimate moves for each Vanguard. The Supermoves needed are: ?Engineer EX? for Aota, ?V Board Trick SP? for Cocona, and ?Ultimate Med Tech? for Hikari Gojo. In battle, you must have a Reyvateil purged three levels. It does not have to be done all at once nor it has to be done on a red beat. After the Reyvateil has been purged three time, wait until the Burst guage reaches at least 30,000%. Go to the Battle Menu (press ) and choose "Supermove Execution". There will be an animation with the Vanguard's attack (and loses some clothes in the process). Wait until the Burst guage reaches 30,000% again, and go back to the Battle Menu. Choose a different Vanguard and choose "Supermove Execution" again. Wait for the Burst guage to reach 30,000% again and repeat the process for the third vanguard. This trophy should unlock during the animation. The MYU battle is a great place to attempt this, although Phase 4 has plenty of opportunities.

Here is a video on how it is done. Credit is given to SplitPlaythru. Caution, this video may be NSFW.

Note: While this player purged three levels at once, it is not necessary. You can purge one level at a time, but be sure to purge three levels.
