Introduction:
Welcome to Armored Core IV, the first Armored Core game since FromSoftware made Dark Souls. You play as 621, an augmented human who works for Handler Walter, you are on Rubicon to find the Coral Convergence. The game has a few choices in missions that allow you to determine who you work for, the big decisions come in Chapter 5 until NG++ and the True Ending.
The game does not have a difficulty scaling that Dark Souls or Bloodborne do where enemies get stronger as you proceed into NG+ and higher, instead there are some missions that are only available in NG+ and later that are tougher based on more ACs to fight or more difficult enemies to deal with. The first major hurdle in the game is going to be Attack the Watchpoint during your first playthrough as BALTEUS is a very tough boss at this point in the game, may want to consider bringing Tank LEGS to give yourself more HP.
When you are able to build your mech there are a few things to keep in mind, first that based on the LEGS you have equipped it will determine the amount of weight your mech can hold. It is recommended to try two different builds, one with Tank/Quadraped legs that is able to hold a lot more weight and a more leightweight bipedal/reverse-jointed build as this allows you to move and dodge much faster although it will be able to take much less damage than the Tank build.
ARMS do two things, first they also have their own load limit which can limit the weight of the weapons you use and they also have firearms specialty which will help your lock on accuracy, the higher it is the more likely you are to land shots while locked on and maintaining your lock-on.
The HEAD and CORE have less importance than the LEGS and ARMS but are still important, the CORE mostly determines how much health your AC has. While the HEAD affects your scan range and how long the enemies stay tagged once they have been scanned. This also will tag chests if you are searching for those. The HEAD and CORE also both affect your Stability, which is your own stagger bar and how quickly it will reset itself.
The three internal parts are based on playstyle, the BOOSTER will affect your upward thrust, speed, and boosts. Selecting the one that is best for your playstyle is important or you will be using a lot of energy you do not need to. FCS is what range your weapons are best at, each weapon also has its prefered distance so you will want to match them as best you can. And the GENERATOR will determine the Energy Capacity your AC will have and how quickly the energy will recover, similarly to the LEGS this is important as each component will take a certain amount of energy.
The weapons you choose are up to your playstyle, some of the current overpowered builds utilize the HU-BEN gattling guns or the HALDEMAN/SWEET SIXTEEN shotguns for the ARM weapons and the SHOULDERS using either the SONGBIRDS or VE-60SNA which do heavy damage and stagger when they connect.
As you complete ARENA missions you will get OST Chips, I would recommend focusing on a rank or two in ASSAULT ARMOR and then Kinetic Weapons - Fire Control Tuning, Direct Hit Modifier - Damage Tuning, ACS - Dynamic Deflection Control Tuning, and Repair Kits - Optimization. If you are using more explosive or energy weapons change Kinetic Weapons to the corresponding damage type you use, you can respec these at any time for a Credit cost based on how many OST Chips installed.
There are missables in the game which are entirely based on the endings, if you play through the game and as you go through NG+ an NG++ selecting any new missions you see there will be no problem obtaining these missable trophies.
As you play through you may notice that you are not ranked after completing a mission, only replaying a mission through SORTIE then REPLAY MISSION will grade you after you complete the mission. S Ranks are based on a few things, speed you complete the mission, repair cost, ammunition cost, mission specific goals, and enemies destroyed. Check out the S Rank text guide if you are having issues on a specific mission for a description on how I got S Rank.
