Overview:

Introduction:

Welcome to Armored Core IV, the first Armored Core game since FromSoftware made Dark Souls. You play as 621, an augmented human who works for Handler Walter, you are on Rubicon to find the Coral Convergence. The game has a few choices in missions that allow you to determine who you work for, the big decisions come in Chapter 5 until NG++ and the True Ending.

The game does not have a difficulty scaling that Dark Souls or Bloodborne do where enemies get stronger as you proceed into NG+ and higher, instead there are some missions that are only available in NG+ and later that are tougher based on more ACs to fight or more difficult enemies to deal with. The first major hurdle in the game is going to be Attack the Watchpoint during your first playthrough as BALTEUS is a very tough boss at this point in the game, may want to consider bringing Tank LEGS to give yourself more HP.

When you are able to build your mech there are a few things to keep in mind, first that based on the LEGS you have equipped it will determine the amount of weight your mech can hold. It is recommended to try two different builds, one with Tank/Quadraped legs that is able to hold a lot more weight and a more leightweight bipedal/reverse-jointed build as this allows you to move and dodge much faster although it will be able to take much less damage than the Tank build.

ARMS do two things, first they also have their own load limit which can limit the weight of the weapons you use and they also have firearms specialty which will help your lock on accuracy, the higher it is the more likely you are to land shots while locked on and maintaining your lock-on.

The HEAD and CORE have less importance than the LEGS and ARMS but are still important, the CORE mostly determines how much health your AC has. While the HEAD affects your scan range and how long the enemies stay tagged once they have been scanned. This also will tag chests if you are searching for those. The HEAD and CORE also both affect your Stability, which is your own stagger bar and how quickly it will reset itself.

The three internal parts are based on playstyle, the BOOSTER will affect your upward thrust, speed, and boosts. Selecting the one that is best for your playstyle is important or you will be using a lot of energy you do not need to. FCS is what range your weapons are best at, each weapon also has its prefered distance so you will want to match them as best you can. And the GENERATOR will determine the Energy Capacity your AC will have and how quickly the energy will recover, similarly to the LEGS this is important as each component will take a certain amount of energy.

The weapons you choose are up to your playstyle, some of the current overpowered builds utilize the HU-BEN gattling guns or the HALDEMAN/SWEET SIXTEEN shotguns for the ARM weapons and the SHOULDERS using either the SONGBIRDS or VE-60SNA which do heavy damage and stagger when they connect.

As you complete ARENA missions you will get OST Chips, I would recommend focusing on a rank or two in ASSAULT ARMOR and then Kinetic Weapons - Fire Control Tuning, Direct Hit Modifier - Damage Tuning, ACS - Dynamic Deflection Control Tuning, and Repair Kits - Optimization. If you are using more explosive or energy weapons change Kinetic Weapons to the corresponding damage type you use, you can respec these at any time for a Credit cost based on how many OST Chips installed.

There are missables in the game which are entirely based on the endings, if you play through the game and as you go through NG+ an NG++ selecting any new missions you see there will be no problem obtaining these missable trophies.

As you play through you may notice that you are not ranked after completing a mission, only replaying a mission through SORTIE then REPLAY MISSION will grade you after you complete the mission. S Ranks are based on a few things, speed you complete the mission, repair cost, ammunition cost, mission specific goals, and enemies destroyed. Check out the S Rank text guide if you are having issues on a specific mission for a description on how I got S Rank.

The missions are as follows: During Attack the Dam Complex accept deal from Rubicon Liberation Front, Prevent Corporate Salvage of New Tech, Destroy the Special Forces Craft, Ambush the Vespers, Eliminate "Cinder" Carla. Also you will get new Arena trials, complete them all and you will get enough OST Chips to get all the upgrades.

Secret trophies

  • Cleared all missions with an S Rank rating.

If you play through the missions as part of the game's story, you are not ranked in the mission, instead you must go to SORTIE - REPLAY MISSION and then select the mission to play. When doing this, the game will rank you based on your performance in the mission. S Rank depends on how fast you complete the mission, along with how much damage you take and ammo cost used, also if you die at all during the mission you will not get S Rank.

If you are having trouble check out my text guide for S Ranks here.
  • Cleared all missions.

Complete all 59 missions, you will need to play through the game three times to unlock all of the missions.
  • Cleared all Arena programs.

Complete all the Arena programs, the first 29 are available during your first playthrough, the next 9 are available on NG+, and the final 3 are available on NG++.
  • Obtained all parts.

Most of the weapons are purchased from the Parts Shop, a few are obtained by completing the Training, rewards for Loghunt, and found in chests in specific missions. You do not need to own them all at once and just have owned them at some point. Below is the locations of the 19 chests.

    Infiltrate Grid 086:
HC-3000 WRECKER - After hacking into a door where 2 Heavy MTs ambush you from behind, drop down the first area you can and turn around. The chest is behind some tanks.
CC-3000 WRECKER - After the above chest you will see another door to hack, behind you to the right is a furnace and the chest is in a small room surrounded by MTs.
AC-3000 WRECKER - In the same room as above enter the tube that isn't flowing molten steel into a vat and follow it to the end, the AC Nosaac is guarding the chest.
2C-3000 WRECKER - From the massive RaD door just before the SMART CLEANER boss fight head through the passage to the right of the door and the chest is around the corner.

    Tunnel Sabotage:
IA-C01W1: NEBULA - Once you enter the cavern and see the metal beams look up to find a beam, fly up to it and head left and the chest is on a ledge past the MTs.

    Survey the Uninhabited Floating City:
IA-C01G: AORTA - At the red beacon facing the 2nd ECM there is an oval building to your left, the chest is at the top of it.

    Eliminate "Honest" Brute:
WB-0010 DOUBLE TROUBLE - Once you first see the laser MTs, the chest is on a platform past a few laser MTs
BC-0600 12345 - After the laser MTs there is a crane-like platform, head all the way to the right and the chest is at the end.
WB-0000 BAD COOK - After the part with a bunch of MTs inside an energy field enter the building and fall down to the next floor, the chest is next to a laser MT.

    Underground Exploration - Depth 1:
IA-C01L: EPHEMERA - After heading down and getting locked out the first time in the area Ayre tells you to go it is at the back wall.

    Underground Exploration - Depth 2:
IA-C01B: GILLS - After chasing the large mech that is shooting lasers at you and a door slams shut blocking you from getting to it there is another door open to the right of where you entered and the chest is near 2 MTs.
IA-C01A: EPHEMERA - Once you enter the ventilation duct and find a vertical catapult the chest is directly ahead at the peak of the jump.

    Underground Exploration - Depth 3:
IA-C01F: OCELLUS - Once you hit the part with the lasers firing at you drop to the first area with cover, head to your right and across the way there will be an area with fuel tank looking things, the chest is next to them. Alternatively destroy all the lasers and come grab it after.
IA-C01C: EPHEMERA - On the dome with all the lasers shooting at you there are several beams that attach to the walls, the beam directly across from where you entered the cavern has the chest. I recommend destroying all the laser snipers before getting the chest.

    Unknown Territory Survey:
IA-C01H: EPHEMERA - Along the path with the Coral Slugs the chest will be on the left.

    Reach the Coral Convergence:
IA-C01W3: AURORA - Head alongside the right of the map along the mission border, there will be an area where the boarder allows to go more to the right. The chest is on top of a building.
IA-C01W2: MOON LIGHT - To the left of the bridge on the ground floor surrounded by Grinderwheels.

    Regain Control of the Xylem:
IB-C03W3: NGI 006 - At the start of the mission drop down to your left, head straight where two small mechs are shooting from and the chest is in a small alcove.
IB-C03W4: NGI 028 - Once you have 2 Parasite Modules left head to the marker and there will be a MT shooting a laser at you, the chest is to the right of it down a small drop. Can also grab it after destroying all the Parasite Modules if short on time.
  • Performed all OS upgrades.

Purchase all upgrades in OS TUNING, you will get exactly enough OST Chips after completing ARENA ANALYSIS γ-3 which will unlock at Chapter 4 in NG+.
  • Reached ending: "The Fires of Raven."

    Missable

This is one of the three endings, in Chapter 5 select the mission Intercept the Corporate Forces and it will put you on the path to this ending.
  • Reached ending: "Liberator of Rubicon."

    Missable

This is one of the three endings, in Chapter 5 select the mission Eliminate "Cinder" Carla and it will put you on the path to this ending.
  • Reached ending: "Alea Iacta Est."

    Missable

This is the final ending of the game, you must have played the game twice already to obtain this ending. Pick the following decision missions:

    Chapter 4 - Eliminate V.III
  • Obtained all weapon parts.

  • Cleared mission: "Illegal Entry."

    Story Related

    Complete the mission Illegal Entry.

This is the tutorial mission and at the end you will have to deal with a massive enemy chopper. One of the key things to this fight is getting familiar with the dodging, you do not want to be on the ground near the explosions that the helicopter can fire off, with patience it will go down.
  • Cleared mission: "Operation Wallclimber."

    Story Related

    Complete the mission Wallclimber.

The JUGGERNAUGHT has a front plate that reduces incoming damage heavily if you attack from the front, fly above him and rain down your heavy fire from missiles to damage him quickly. Bringing along a Bazooka for the mission will allow you to do heavy damage to it while you are flying above along with stagger.
  • Cleared mission: "Attack the Watchpoint."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Attack the Watchpoint.

There are two bosses in this fight, another AC ENTANGLE/ Sulla, and AAP07: BALTEUS. The first fight with Sulla isn't too bad, you want to keep distance and wear him down as he has a melee attack that does quite a bit of damage, while BALTEUS is the hardest fight you will have at this point.

The fight with BALTEUS is difficult, first you will need to weakon its shields before you can actually do any damage while avoiding its missile barrages and rockets. When it starts doing the missile attacks I used Boost l3.png to close the gap then attack twice with the Energy Sword, this takes out a good chunk of the shield. Keep smashing the shield with r2.png and when the shield is over 1/4 remaining firing rockets at it to wear it down faster. When it flies directly upwards get ready to dodge as it is about to fire a missile at you that if it catches you on the ground can take around half your heath. Once it drops to half health it adds in some flaming sword attacks, keep your distance to dodge those as they will instantly stagger you and deal massive damage. After practice at dodging the attacks it will eventually go down.
  • Cleared mission: "Ocean Crossing."

    Story Related

    Complete the mission Ocean Crossing,

The SEA SPIDER is easier than BALTEUS but still has a few tricks up its sleeve. It's biggest damaging attack is a melee swipe where it brings both front claws down at you, if you cannot back up far enough and don't have the height to get above its attack dodge under the boss and through the legs. After it is at 1/3rd health or so it will begin to fly and rain down missiles and Coral Explosions, when it shoots the ground with a massive beam fly upwards to avoid taking the almost arena wide explosion.
  • Cleared mission: "Attack the Old Spaceport."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Attack the Old Space Port

The mission is easier than previous trophy missions as you will have to take out a few dormant Spaceships then two active ones, shouldn't be too much of a problem. After those are destroyed you will have to deal with a HC and LC but you have V. IV RUSTY with you, focus on  one down at a time to make it easier for you. Once the new machine shows up just stay off the ground and away from the head and eventually it will leave.
  • Cleared mission: "Destroy the Ice Worm."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Destroy the Ice Worm.

The boss is a bit of a gimmick, just before the mission you will get the R-BACK UNIT VE-60SNA which is required for the mission. Dodge the worm as it moves around and when you get a chance shoot it in the face with this weapon. Wait for V.IV RUSTY to charge the Rail Cannon and fire into the worm to knock it down. After a set amount of damage it will recharge its shield and you will have to repeat the process, knock out its shields 2 more times and it will go down.
  • Cleared mission: "Underground Exploration – Depth 3."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Underground Exploration - Depth 3.

The mission is fairly simple, dodge the incoming laser fire and make your way inside the building. Once you destroy your target you will need to escape quickly, there will be a fight vs an AC as you escape so bring weaponry to deal with the AC.
  • Cleared mission: "Reach the Coral Convergence."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Reach the Coral Convergence.

The boss of the mission, IB-01: CEL 240 is incredibly fast but doesn't have much HP to make up for it. However it does have 2 phases where the 2nd half of the fight it gets powered up with harder hitting moves and some variations on moves it has already used.
  • Cleared mission: "Take the Uninhabited Floating City."

    Story Related

Complete the mission Take the Uninhabited Floating City.

The mission is a defence mission, you will have to defend a point from waves of enemies. The only part that can be annoying is the suicide drones, you will need to bring a high capacity rocket to deal with them, or ignore them as if you can stop the other waves from damaging the target they can't even get through the shield.
  • MIA

    Cleared mission: "MIA."

    Story Related

    Complete the mission MIA.

The mission is only available in NG++ or higher while on the "Alea Iacta Est." path, the mission isn't difficult at all. At the end you will face V.II Pater in a high mobility LC, went down quite quickly.
  • Cleared all training programs.
