Overview:Introduction:
Taito’s classic brick breaker returns to modern consoles, with an online battle royale multiplayer mode that’s surprisingly entertaining. Arkanoid: Eternal Battle and its trophy list focuses a great deal on this Eternal Battle mode, with the greatest challenge coming from beating the game’s single player Neo Mode without continuing. Some of those multiplayer trophies are no slouch either. This is an extremely difficult Platinum trophy overall.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Neo Mode
There is some flexibility with what order you can do these trophies in, so it may be a good idea to start with the new single player mode to get accustomed to the game’s physics. Beating this mode without using a continue will be the ultimate goal however this will absolutely not happen on the first try, or maybe the hundredth try even. You can go through this mode once using your continues and knock out a few trophies along the way.

Once you’ve got these single player trophies now you can make a run at beating the game without continues. You’ll want to rely on your powerups and stockpiling extra lives and hoping for a few lucky bounces too.

Step 2: Eternal Battle Mode
The namesake game mode is surprisingly fun, although unsurprisingly the player count is almost non-existent. Thankfully any empty spots are filled with AI who are competitive but beatable. After tanking one round to take 25th place you will want to work on obtaining 20 victories and 100 matches played (these 100 matches are necessary for unlocking every skin). One of these victories you will want to collect every item capsule, another time using no item capsules and another victory using no multiplayer powerups.

Step 3: Versus Mode and Retro Mode
The last bit of cleanup here to get the last trophies, including the last of the background skins will be to win a battle against the AI in a Versus Mode match and to complete the original Retro Mode with as many continues as you need.

24 trophies ( 11  6  )

  • Unlock all trophies

This trophy is awarded for completing all the other of the game's trophies. No DLC is required, however you will need  PlayStation Plus for online multiplayer.
  • Get a total of 20 wins (Eternal Battle)

You will be mostly playing AI opponents despite this technically being an online game mode. There is really no reason to boost this trophy with others as the AI is competitive but beatable. Also to note, a victory in this mode means not only beating all other 24 human or AI players, but also beating Doh at the end as well. Keep your combo going during the first part of Eternal Battle and then when facing Doh on your own you need to focus on keeping multiple balls going to deplete his health bar. The timer is tight against Doh so you will have many defeats despite taking "first".
  • Get a total of 10 wins (Eternal Battle)

  • Get a total of 7 wins (Eternal Battle)

  • Pro

Get a total of 5 wins (Eternal Battle)

  • Get a total of 3 wins (Eternal Battle)

  • Win a game (Eternal Battle)

  • Unlock all skins

There are 15 total background skins you can collect throughout the game. Here's how you will obtain them all:
    • Reaching Level 10 in Eternal Battle (multiple skins)
    • Playing 100 matches in Eternal Mode
    • Completing Neo Mode with or without continues
    • Completing Retro mode with or without continues
  • Win a game without collecting a single Item-Capsule

MUST BE DONE IN ETERNAL BATTLE MODE

This trophy is very difficult for three reasons: one being your item capsules are critical for keeping your combo meter going and scoring big points. Another obstacle is sometimes when chasing a ball from going out you may accidentally collect an item capsule. If you manage to get past those two roadblocks, you will need to reach the top 4 and actually defeat Doh too.

This will take lots of trial and error and skilled play to obtain. If possible, you should concentrate in hitting the ball off the sides of your Vaus ship to slow the time it takes to come back to you, giving you more time to prepare and hit another side shot ideally. Avoid item capsules even if it means starting your combo over and allowing a ball out.
  • Win a game by collecting all the Item-Capsules

MUST BE DONE IN ETERNAL BATTLE MODE

While not as tricky as Purist trophy_gold.png, this trophy van be very difficult too. What often happens is your ball is going extremely fast and you will inevitably get a ball out while a capsule is falling and you won't respawn in time to grab it. These missed capsules do indeed count against you. It may be beneficial to purposely let the ball go out occasionally to start the ball speed back to slow.
  • Win a game without using a single Power Up (Eternal Battle)

You can use powerups in Eternal Battle mode by pressing either l1.png or r1.png to target your opponents left or right of you. Win a battle against your opponents and against Doh without using these to unlock this. It is ok to use item capsules that fall from space wall bricks however, it is only these player-targeting powerups that are counted for this trophy.
  • Complete the Neo mode without using a continue

This will be by far the most difficult trophy in the game and may be the barrier between obtaining a Platinum trophy in the end. Completionists be warned!

While you cannot use continues, you can frequently stockpile additional lives for every 20,000 points you score. You're going to need them as some rounds can quickly eat up 5+ lives. There are two rounds early on that could really break a deep run which are rounds 9 and 19. In round 9 there are very few color bricks, but they are mostly blocked by gold bricks. Sometimes you can find a rhythm by hitting a shot off the side of your ship and then replicating the same angle when the ball comes back.

Level 19 features a lot of silver bricks and few powerups. It's almost required that you had carried a laser powerup from previous levels to get by this level without depleting your stockpile.

In total there are 46 rounds including a battle against Doh. You going to need fast reactions and a little capsule luck, then more skill to keep these powerups for an extended period in order to win without continues.

  • Complete the Mode (Neo)

You can use as many continues as you want in Neo Mode, although you will lose half of your points with each continue. Complete all 46 rounds and defeat Doh to obtain the trophy.
  • Complete the Mode (Retro)

You can use as many continues as you want in Retro Mode, although you will lose all your points with each continue.  Retro mode has less powerups however the ball speed is just slightly slower. Complete all 33 rounds and defeat Doh to obtain the trophy.
  • Win a game against one or more AI (Versus)

You can play an offline versus mode against friends or you can set up AI opponents instead. This mode is similar to Eternal Battle, though your goal here is to complete the round first rather than highest score. Add a single AI opponent and reduce the rounds to 3 for this one.
  • Keep the Combo Gauge full for 60 seconds

Your Combo Gauge determines the score you get for each brick hit. You will know the gauge when the completed bricks hit a certain high-pitched ding when you hit them. While you may accidentally hit 60 seconds throughout your playthrough if you want to specifically work towards this trophy, you can extend your time artificially with the Catch item capsule. Catch the ball and hold it as long as possible when your Combo Gauge is full until you have surpassed 60 seconds.
  • Destroy the Antimatter Space Wall first

The Antimatter Space Wall brick is a sparking purple-ish brick. This brick allows the ball to pass through bricks without bouncing back for a short period of time. The best opportunity to hit this brick first is in Round 5 or Round 12. If you fail,  then you can deplete your lives and use a continue to start over as there is no level select in Neo Mode.

  • Destroy the Yellow Magic Space Wall first

The Yellow Magic Space Wall brick is a sparking yellow brick. This brick changes all the other bricks to yellow bricks momentarily which increases your scoring potential. The best opportunity to hit this brick first is in Round 12. If you fail, then you can deplete your lives and use a continue to start over as there is no level select in Neo Mode.

  • Destroy the explosive Space Wall first

The Explosive Space Wall brick is a sparking orange brick. This brick, destroying explodes when hit, destroying other bricks around it. The best opportunity to hit this brick first is in Round 7 or Round 29. If you fail, then you can deplete your lives and use a continue to start over as there is no level select in Neo Mode.

  • Bounce the Energy Ball until it reaches its maximum speed

The Energy Ball will gradually increase in speed in each round. If you last long enough without dying the ball will reach a max speed. There are some rounds where the ball will bounce around a bunch without your intervention, such as Round 9 where this may occur.
  • Keep at least 3 Energy Balls for 30 seconds

You can obtain multiple Energy Balls with the [ D ] item capsule. While it's entirely possible to keep all three going for 30 seconds, this is easier when stacked with the [ C ] or catch item capsule. When stacked together you can hold energy balls and wait for them to release automatically after a few seconds. This can be obtained as early as Round 1.

  • Destroy the Helpful

The enemies in Arkanoid are called the "Harmful". In Eternal Battle mode, if you are lagging behind a bit and are in the back of the pack sometimes a rainbow-colored enemy called the "Helpful" will appear. These enemies will award you 2000 points and can often get you out of the cellar.
  • You will automatically obtain this trophy on your way to your Victory Royale trophy_silver.png trophy as you just need to reach the top 4 and make it to the second part of the Eternal Battle mode where you face Doh.
  • Finish 25th

Intentionally throw a game of Eternal Battle by letting the ball drain out. You will be first to be eliminated.
