Introduction:

Taking its inspiration from classics such as the Tenchu series, Aragami is a stealth game in which you take control of Aragami, an assassin brought back to life to infiltrate the Army of Light and attempt to discover the truth about your past. A range of Shadow Techniques are available, allowing you to manipulate your victims, sneak behind your targets, and kill without being detected.

When it comes to trophies, your key concern will be to complete each chapter at least twice to achieve contrasting objectives - killing either all of your enemies or none at all, while attempting to remain undetected (you'll need to raise no alarms in at least one of these attempts). There are also collectible scrolls to search out in almost all of the chapters, but locating these is greatly assisted through the availability of in-game markers pinpointing the location of each one. You'll want to collect as many of these as possible as soon as you can, as these scrolls are also the means through which you'll unlock the many available Shadow Techniques, each of which will allow you to traverse and (if you wish) kill with greater ease. A few situational trophies round out the list, but none of these are especially difficult to complete and in many cases will just come naturally as you play.

Walkthrough:

Step 1: Complete the game once, picking either a no kills or all kills approach

Upon completing each of the game's 13 chapters, you may earn one of three 'seals'/medals - Yurei (no alarms raised), Kami (killed no-one) and Oni (killed everyone). As you play through the game for the first time, you should aim to achieve either the Kami or Oni medal on every chapter (these are mutually exclusive, except for chapter 13), and if possible also Yurei. As you do so, I'd recommend also trying to collect as many as possible of the scrolls that appear in each chapter, as these are the means through which you'll unlock more of the Shadow Techniques that are available to you - which will make your time with the game much easier (and in any case, you'll need to collect all of these scrolls eventually for a separate trophy).

Personally, I took a no-kills approach first, while also exploring to find all of the scrolls in each chapter - I find that having all of your Shadow Techniques unlocked makes subsequently attempting a 'kill everyone' playthrough much easier. Of course, everyone will have their own preference on this, as well as to which Shadow Techniques they find most useful. I'll include some of my own recommendations alongside the Almighty trophy below.

I'll also add a brief word of warning here - expect a sharp difficulty spike when you reach chapters 9 and 12, though these are still perfectly manageable with practice.

Trophies earned in this step:

  • Aragami
  • The Call of the Shadows
  • Chimes of the Past
  • The Shaded Woods
  • The Great Lake
  • Mausoleum of the Fallen
  • Kyuryu
  • The Old Sage
  • The Last Captain
  • Military District
  • The Sixth Talisman
  • Ascension
  • Twin Souls
  • Apprentice
  • Shadow Master
  • The first step
  • Almighty
  • Lights out

Trophies earned with a no kills playthough:

  • There's always a choice
  • Pacifist

Trophies earned with an all kills playthough:

  • No witnesses
  • God of Death
  • Fear the Aragami

Trophies earned with a no alarms playthough:

  • Just the wind
  • Ghost

Step 2: Complete each chapter a second time, taking the opposite approach from that followed for step 1 (i.e., a no kills or all kills)

In this step, you'll complete each chapter a second time and attempt to achieve the opposite medal for each chapter from that achieved in your first playthrough. If you didn't manage to achieve the 'no alarms raised' medal in any chapters, now's also the time to attempt that, as well as collecting any scrolls that you might have missed the first time around.

Trophies earned in this step:

  • Depends on approach - see step 1

Step 3: Clean-up

Finally, after achieving all of the medals for every chapter, if you've not yet earned any of the situational trophies, you can replay chapters at your leisure to earn them.

Trophies earned in this step:

  • Legend
  • Wombo Combo
  • The Darkness
  • Jumper
  • Paint It Black
  • Aggressive Climbing
  • Up and Down
  • God Eater
  • Face Off
  • Gravity Rush
  • Dishonored
  • Troll
  • I don't care!
  • Their own medicine
  • Aragami!? Aragami!!

  • Obtain a ‘Yurei’ medal.

    See the Ghost trophy below.

  • Obtain all ‘Yurei’ medals.

A 'Yurei' medal is earned by completing the chapter without raising a single alarm.

The awareness level of guards is indicated on-screen with a meter that fills from white to yellow to red. If this fills fully yellow, you'll trigger the 'caution' state of a guard, while if it fills fully red, they'll attempt to blow their horn and raise an alarm. It's only this red fully-aware status that leads to an alarm being triggered, and if you can kill the guard before they blow their horn you'll still avoid the alarm.

To earn the Just the wind trophy, you'll need to complete any one chapter without raising any alarms; for the Ghost trophy, you'll need to do so for all chapters. You can combine this with either a 'no kills' or 'all kills' playthough, depending on which you find easier.

  • Obtain a ‘Kami’ medal.

    See the Pacifist trophy below.

  • Obtain all ‘Kami’ medals.

A 'Kami' medal is earned by completing the chapter without any kills ('boss' enemies excluded, for relevant chapters).

To earn the There's always a choice trophy, you'll need to complete any one chapter without any kills; for the Pacifist trophy, you'll need to do so for all chapters.

Trophy Germany has kindly posted videos demonstrating a no kills playthough of each chapter in a separate thread, found over here.

  • Obtain an ‘Oni’ medal.

See the God of Death trophy below.

  • Obtain all ‘Oni’ medals.

An 'Oni' medal is earned by completing the chapter while killing all enemies.

To earn the No witnesses trophy, you'll need to complete any one chapter with all kills; for the God of Death trophy, you'll need to do so for all chapters.

  • Find a Scroll.

See the Shadow Master trophy below. You'll earn this naturally in chapter 2, as collecting the first scroll is required to progress.

  • Find all Scrolls.

Scrolls are the one form of collectible found in Aragami, with a few hidden in most of the game's chapters. Although technically mostly optional, collecting as many scrolls as possible as you play will make your progress through the game much easier, as scrolls are the means through which you can unlock Shadow Techniques - unique skills that offer new/improved ways to approach each of the game's scenarios. There are exactly enough scrolls in the game to allow all Shadow Techniques to be unlocked.

To earn the Apprentice trophy, you'll need to complete collect one scroll; for the Shadow Master trophy, you'll need to do find every scroll in every chapter.

Unlocking the 'Hidden Knowledge' shadow technique will make locating scrolls much easier, as this will add an on-screen indicator showing the location of all scrolls within a chapter when you press . Alternatively, Trophy Germany has kindly posted videos demonstrating of all scrolls in each chapter in a separate thread, found over here.

The scrolls are spread across chapters as follows:

    • Chapter I: 0 scrolls
    • Chapter II: 4 scrolls
    • Chapter III: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter IV: 5 scrolls
    • Chapter V: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter VI: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter VII: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter VIII: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter IX: 1 scroll
    • Chapter X: 6 scrolls
    • Chapter XI: 5 scrolls
    • Chapter XII: 3 scrolls
    • Chapter XIII: 0 scrolls
  • Unlock your first Shadow Technique

See the Almighty trophy below. You'll earn this naturally in chapter 2, as unlocking your first Shadow Technique is required to progress.

  • Unlock all the Shadow Techniques

Shadow Techniques are unique skills that offer new/improved ways to approach each of the game's scenarios. To unlock these techniques, you'll first need to collect scrolls hidden throughout each chapter (see the Shadow Master trophy above). Each technique costs a certain number of points to unlock, with each scroll collected granting a single point.

To earn the The first step trophy, you'll need to complete collect one scroll; for the Almighty trophy, you'll need to do find every scroll in every chapter.

Everyone will have their own preferences as to which techniques they find most useful, but I'd personally recommend the following in particular:

    • Shadow Vanish: pretty much essential if you're attempting an all-kills playthrough, this technique allows you to make the body of a dead guard disappear, preventing other guards from discovering the body and so raising an alarm.
    • Hidden Knowledge: with this technique, an on-screen indicator is displayed when you press , pinpointing the location of every scroll in the chapter. This makes it much easier to find other scrolls more easily, and so unlock the rest of your techniques.
    • Kage: most useful for a no-kills playthrough, this provides temporary invisibility for a few seconds, allowing you to sneak through even closely-guarded locations. You'll also not trigger explosive lights with Kage active. Upgrade to Kage II and you'll make no noise even while running.
    • Shinen: an excellent way to dispose of problematic groups of guards - just lure them to the location of your Shinen and remove them all with a single button-press.
  • Concatenate multiple stealth kills.

This is easiest to obtain in versions of the game prior to v1.04, as prior to this, all kills countered as 'stealth kills'; post-patch, if a guard has detected you, you'll just be credited with a standard 'kill' if you kill them.

Regardless, for this trophy you'll need to find a pair (or more) of unaware guards standing close to each other, then kill them one after the other, chaining kills with multiple successive presses of - which should earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Perform your first Shadow Kill.

Before you can earn this trophy, you'll first need to unlock the 'Shadow Kill' Shadow Technique. Now, approach an unaware guard and press and hold to summon a shadow beast to swallow the guard - and earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Perform 100 Shadow Leaps.

You'll almost certainly earn this trophy naturally as you progress through the game, but it's easy to earn either way. Simply use your 'Shadow Leap' technique (press while aiming at a shadow) to teleport between shadows a cumulative total of 100 times to earn this trophy.

  • Summon 100 shadows.

Again, this trophy will very likely come naturally as you progress. To earn this trophy, use your 'Shadow Creation' technique (press while aiming at an unshadowed, but not brightly-lit area) a cumulative total of 100 times.

  • Kill 100 enemies.

Earning this trophy will come naturally as you work towards earning 'Oni' medals in each chapter. Once you've killed a cumulative total of 100 guards, you'll unlock this trophy.

  • Perform a Ledge Kill.

Before you can earn this trophy, you'll first need to unlock the 'Ledge Kill' Shadow Technique. Once you've unlocked this, point your 'Shadow Leap' (teleport) technique at a dark spot on a ledge below an enemy - you should see the icon change appropriately and the teleport marker will become red - and release. You'll then pull off a 'ledge kill' and earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Perform a Ceiling Kill.

Before you can earn this trophy, you'll first need to unlock the 'Ledge Kill' Shadow Technique. Once you've unlocked this, point your 'Shadow Leap' (teleport) technique at a dark spot above an enemy - you should see the icon change appropriately and the teleport marker will become red - and release. You'll then pull off a 'ceiling kill' and earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Destroy a light orb for 1st time

As you progress through the game, you'll encounter barriers of light that prevent your progress. To remove these, you'll need to destroy a light orb that powers them, usually located fairly close by. You'll unlock this naturally at the start of chapter 4.

  • Use 'Shinen' to swallow 3 guards at the same time.

Before you can earn this trophy, you'll first need to unlock the 'Shinen' Shadow Technique. Once you've unlocked this, locate a group of at least three guards and place a Shinen marker nearby. Now, attract the guards' attention towards where you've placed the marker (the noise-making charms that you'll collect in chapter 3 are ideal for this), and once all three are in range of your Shinen (look for the indicator that appears above them), trigger it with a second press of to 'swallow' all three together - and earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Get killed by an arrow while throwing a 'Kunai'.

Before you can earn this trophy, you'll first need to unlock the 'Kunai' Shadow Technique. Once you've unlocked this, locate a guard armed with a bow (preferable from a good distance away) and attract their attention by walking into the path of their aiming indicator. This will trigger them to attempt to attack you. Now, equip the Kunai skill and once you see the guard firing an arrow towards you, throw a kunai towards them, while allowing yourself to be killed by the arrow - and you should earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Perform an aerial kill from a 30m height.

For this trophy, locate a guard standing/patrolling below a high point, such as the roof of a multi-storey building. Now, climb to that high point, wait for the guard to pass below you, then press to drop down and perform an aerial kill - and earn this trophy.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Die while performing a stealth kill.

This is easiest to obtain in versions of the game prior to v1.04, as prior to this, all kills countered as 'stealth kills'; post-patch, if a guard has detected you, you'll just be credited with a standard 'kill' if you kill them.

To obtain this trophy, you need to trigger a guard attacking you while also achieving a kill yourself at the same time. Before update v1.04 this could be done easily with a single guard, simply attacking them at the same time as they attack you. After this update, you'll typically need to involve a second guard, manipulating them into attacking you at the same time as you kill another, unaware guard.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Trigger caution mode on the same guard 3 times.

A guard's 'caution' mode is triggered when their awareness indicator fills fully yellow and a question mark appears above them. They'll then approach the location where they saw/heard you and investigate - but if they find nothing, they'll return to their post after a few seconds. To earn this trophy, you'll need to allow a guard to enter their 'caution' state and return to their post twice. Now, if you trigger their 'caution' state for a third time, you'll earn this trophy.

During chapter 3, you'll collect a pair of chimes that you can use to attract guards' attention using , which I'd recommend as perfect for earning this trophy with minimal risk of being discovered.

Here's a video guide, courtesy of Trophy Germany:

  • Skip a cinematic.

To earn this straightforward trophy, simply skip any cutscene by holding . I'd recommend doing so at a time once you've already played through a chapter, so as not to miss out on any story points.

  • Use an explosive light to kill a guard.

In many of the game's chapters, you'll encounter floating spheres of light. Approach too close to these and they'll attempt to attach themselves to Aragami, then detonate within a few seconds. However, if you can find and attempt to attack a guard in their period before the explosion, you'll use this explosion against the guard and instantly kill them - earning this trophy as you do so.

Secret trophies

  • Die. Again. And again.

I'll be very surprised (impressed!) if anyone manages to complete the game without earning this naturally! I'm not certain of the exact threshold (it's low), but simply die repeatedly and you'll eventually earn this trophy.

White = All is well, you haven't been detected.
Yellow = The Guard has been alerted to your presence and will investigate anything out of the ordinary.
Red = You have been detected, thus the Guard will sound the alarm and call for reinforcements.

If a Guard detects you or the body of someone you have knocked out/killed, you will only have a matter of seconds to silence them before the alarm is sounded. There 4 of these medals to get but you can do them on Easy.

  • Kill the Alchemist's messenger

This can only be unlocked in Chapter II of the Nightfall DLC.

Go through the first area, where you have to unlock the drawbridge with two levers then go through the door to follow the Alchemist's messenger run towards him and kill him immediately. For this trophies will immediately unlock when you him kill.
