Ancient Amuletor is a neat VR take on tower defense games. Here instead of having free roam of the battlefield placing towers to stop your foes, you are actually the defense mechanism and can only teleport to and from towers whose placement you have no control over. These towers cannot be destroyed and you cannot die (not really at least) leading to a new twist on the genre. The kicker is that all of this plays out in first person VR lending an almost shooting gallery feel to the whole proceeding. The game can only be played with two Move controllers and have four main game levels and characters, with more being added as free DLC.

Controls:
Controls are written using the right hand as the dominant hand. If you choose to play with the left hand as the dominant hand some controls may be reversed.

Movement is handled with your right hand. You must press and hold the button to bring up a teleport laser which when aimed at an available tower will allow you to move across the arena when released. Movement can be restricted by enemy powers and bosses.

You can switch between any unlocked characters whenever you choose. While you’ll start each level as the character you choose prior to launching the level you can switch in-game by pressing , , , or on the left controller to bring up a menu then pointing at the character you wish to use and hitting the on the right controller.

Attacking is somewhat dependent on the character you are using:

  • Archer – You must hold the on the right hand and pull back on the bow while aiming with the left hand. The arrows is released when you release the .
  • Gunner – Each gun is aimed independently based on the applicable Move controller. Pull the on the applicable controller to fire that gun.
  • Puppet Master – You must first place the puppet with the on your left controller to bring up an aiming aid, once released the puppet will be thrown to where you were aiming. Once placed you must swing your arms to attack. Unlike the other characters the puppet has a cooldown and a healthtime bar. As such using this character takes more planning than the others but it can be utterly devastating against grouped enemies.
  • Wizard – The on your left hand is used to magic orbs by holding it down. Once created you can release the and create up to two more orbs at any time. To attack you must hold the on your right hand and move your “wand” over the orb and throw it by moving your arm and releasing the .

Skills are your character ultimate attacks, handled with the button on your left hand. Each character has one and they vary quite a bit and can only be used once you have achieved enough orbs from fallen enemies. There is no cooldown on skill use, however you’ll have to earn orbs once more to make it available. You can store skills if you’d like by switching characters allowing you to come back to that character when you really need their skill.

Step 1: Play the tutorial (optional)

In this step, you will play the tutorial and get your first trophy, if following the glitch warning you’ll also get a second trophy. Should you choose to skip this step you’ll have to come back and get these during Step 6.

Trophies you will get:

  • Become an Amuletor
  • Rain of Arrows

Step 2: Play the four main game levels on Normal
In this step, you will be playing through the game to get a feel for how things work and where enemies spawn while unlocking levels. While you won’t be focusing on getting 3 stars it is likely that you will get one or two levels done, that said they will be in the cleanup step just in case. This is a good place to identify a favorite character to help you speed along getting that character’s weapons to level up. This step is required to unlock Hard difficulty.

Trophies you will get:

  • Any more?
  • Crystal Amuletor I
  • Crystal Amuletor II

Step 3: Character specific trophies (optional)

In this step, you will be playing whatever levels you feel like while focusing on the character specific trophies. While doing these trophies you are likely to level up weapons as well which will make the Hard and 3 star trophies easier. If you choose to skip this step it can be intermingled with other steps or moved to Step 6.

Trophies you will get:

  • Bulletstorm
  • No place to hide
  • Suppressive Fire
  • Hammer Impact
  • Frozen Time
  • Keep your distance
  • Puppet Savior

Step 4: Play levels 1-2 and 2-2 on Hard

In this step, you'll replay the two boss levels (1-2 and 2-2) in the main game on Hard. Your rating doesn’t matter but things are easier if you have levelled up weapons.

Trophies you will get:

  • Statue Breaker
  • No Pass

Step 5: Multiplayer

In this step, you will be working towards the three multiplayer specific trophies. You’ll be hosting the games yourself to increase your chances of getting first kills. You’ll need to play at least 1 full match and then start another 9 matches, quitting after you get the first kill.

Trophies you will get:

  • The Best Partner
  • Hello my friend
  • Union is strength

Step 6: Cleanup

Depending on how things went you may not even need this step but as you have a fair bit of freedom with how you choose to play it is likely you are missing at least some of these. Simply replay levels with a focus on whatever you have missed to this point, whether that be kill related, character related, or 3 star levels.

Trophies you will get:

  • Boooom!
  • Four Heroes
  • My reliable friends!!
  • They’re not enemies!
  • Mummy Killer
  • Stay inside
  • Unstoppable
  • You’re all doomed
  • Perfect Amuletor I
  • Perfect Amuletor II
  • Perfect Amuletor III
  • Perfect Amuletor IV
  • God of Amuletor

30 trophies ( 15  10  1  )

  • Get all trophies.

Once you have unlocked the rest of the trophies in the game you'll get a shiny new plat!

  • Complete Training.

The training should be one of the first things you do but it doesn’t have to be as it is not mandatory to play the game. Enter the tutorial and follow the instructions put forth. You will have to defend against three waves of enemies after learning how to play. Once the third wave is finished the trophy will pop.

Potential glitch warning: The trophy itself isn’t glitched but the tutorial appears to be. If you end up not being able to finish the tutorial because the enemies don’t all spawn on the third wave start over and get to the third wave again. Do not kill anything on the third wave until the enemies stop spawning. Once you are sure they have all spawned kill them and the tutorial should complete and give you the trophy. There are 10 enemies in the final round if you have a scatter shot available you can stack Rain of Arrows here as well.

  • Play four heroes in one battle.

You can do this at any time outside of the training if you downloaded the free DLC. If you didn’t, then you won’t unlock your fourth character until 2-1. Either way just use the switch mechanic to change into 4 different characters during a single level and the trophy will pop. You do not have to kill anything.

  • Defeat 10 enemies with one Scatter Shot.

This trophy requires you to use the archer. First get several kills with the archer and unlock your skill. Then once the skill is available allow 10 or more enemies to amass, hit the button on your left controller, draw your bow then aim at each enemy until they are highlighted with a circle on them. Once you have locked on to 10 enemies release your shot. I would avoid bombers and shield soldiers for this. You can actually get this during the training if you wait on the third wave for all of the enemies to spawn before you attack.

  • Defeat 200 enemies in total.

    See Unstoppable.

  • Activate wooden men for 30 times.

Wooden man traps first appear on level 1-2. They look a bit like man shaped catapults and have a target on their chest. There are two different kinds of wooden man traps, an axe wielder which will chop down creating a short wave slash and an explosive barrel launcher. Simply shoot a total of wooden man traps 30 times when they are cocked and the trophy will pop. Note that if a wooden man is in a cooldown state or currently attacking you cannot activate them. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs, characters, and multiplayer as well.

  • Become MVP in multiplayer.

See Hello my friend. If while hosting you are lucky enough to not have anyone join you then you will automatically get this once you complete the level. If however people end up joining you then you’ll want to get more kills than they do to get the MVP. Interestingly enough if you are hosting a multiplayer game but playing solo you’ll get credit for both multiplayer and single player efforts so you can get this trophy and a single player 3 star trophy.

  • Defeat 20 enemies with explosive barrels.

Explosive barrels are scattered throughout the levels. They look just like you would expect, a big red barrel. You have two options to get kills with them, you can either shoot the barrel when an enemy is near or on some levels you can shoot the wooden man trap and it will throw a barrel which kills enemies on impact. Do either of these actions or a combination of the two to kill 20 enemies and the trophy is yours. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs, characters, and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 10 enemies with one gunner skill.

This trophy requires you to use the gunner. You’ll need to get several kills with your normal attacks to unlock your skill. Once unlock either allow 10 enemies to amass around a single crystal or simply ensure there are 10 enemies that you can get to by teleporting to different towers then hit the button on your left controller and start firing as fast as you can. You have unlimited ammo for a short time so don’t worry about reloading. If done correctly you’ll have killed 10 or more enemies and the trophy will pop. I found 2-1 to be a good level for this but any level works.

  • Earn first kill in a multiplayer game.

The easiest way to get this trophy is to start a multiplayer match by hosting. This way you have a pretty good chance to play by yourself. Then just get the first kill in the match. The trophy will pop and you can quit after that if you'd like.

  • In singleplayer, defeat Pharoah Statue in Hard.

I found the easiest way to get this trophy is to use the gunner and circle the arena using the towers you find most comfortable. You should really only need four towers, the two under and in front of the Pharaoh statue and the two behind those. The latter two will be where you actually fight the Pharaoh, as you won’t have access to any other towers for the boss fight. The boss has a handful of attacks including swipes from either the left or right and a smash attack, each of which you can stop if you shoot the crystals in his hands. There are also unstoppable attacks where it shoots either a ball of dark matter or a rain of dark matter. Both attacks are highly telegraphed but can kill you. For the ball of dark matter simply switch to the tower he isn’t aiming at. For the rain your best bet is to switch between both towers continuously until the rain ends. If you do end up dying you’ll be able to respawn after a 10 second cooldown.

There are a couple stages to this fight, the first ending when the Pharaoh puts its head down for you to shoot. Eventually after this the boss will take off his mask making him vulnerable to attacks throughout the rest of the fight, when this happens concentrate fire on its face as best you can. As long as you are killing the enemies that spawn the Pharaoh shouldn’t be a problem.

  • In singleplayer, destroy Siege Engines in Hard.

The easiest way to get this trophy is to use the gunner with upgraded muskets. Just keep switching between the two farthest towers on each side of the gate. Most of the enemies spawn near these two towers and they provide a great vantage point as well for the rest of the level. You’ll have to bounce around quite a bit due to the short range of the muskets but that shouldn’t be much of a problem. When you see enemies approaching either outside tower that is in line with the gate move to that tower to kill the enemies. If there is something you don’t think you can see switch towers until you can see it. Do this for five stages and on the sixth stage the siege engine boss will spawn. Simply unload on the boss’ nose cannon and rear flank to kill it. Be conscious of the enemies that will still spawn, most from the siege engine itself. If you have a skill available use it on the boss. This way you should have the boss killed by the completion of the boss’ first circle of the arena if not faster. Don’t worry about the shots the boss is firing on the crystals there is nothing you can do about this and it won’t matter anyway unless you screwed up somewhere else badly.

  • In singleplayer, finish all the levels of Desert in any difficulty.

There are two levels in the Desert, 1-1 and 1-2. 1-2 is the Pharaoh boss, simply complete both of these levels and the trophy will pop. The difficulty does not matter but, if you are trying to get trophies quickly I would suggest doing this on Normal.

  • In singleplayer, finish all the levels of Empire in any difficulty.

There are two levels in the Empire, 2-1 and 2-2. 2-2 is the Siege Engine boss, simply complete both of these levels and the trophy will pop. The difficulty does not matter, but if you are trying to get trophies quickly I would suggest doing this on Normal.

  • Use mage's skill to kill 50 enemies in total.

This must be done with the wizard. While the kills track across all playthroughs and difficulties this one is a bit odd as a direct hit often won't kill an enemy on Normal or higher. As such I suggest playing on Easy and letting enemies stack up on a crystal once you have a skill available. When you are ready to fire hit the :Move: button on the left controller then the left to summon your ice orb, at this point throw it as you would the normal attack. This will kill mummies on 1-1 on Easy every time, so a couple of runs should be enough to make up any kills you may have remaining. I think some kills may count when the enemy is still under the skill's effect but don't count on those as you'll likely end up wasting quite a bit of time like I did. The 1-1 strategy is much quicker and definitely counts.

  • Earn first kill in 10 multiplayer games.

See Hello my friend. Simply keep hosting games and getting the first kill. After each kill you can quit and start over. You do not have to finish the match for the kills to count. I got this after hosting 10 matches solo.

  • Defeat 500 Desert mummies in total.

Mummies are one of the standard enemies in the game. They are the first enemies that you will see on 1-1 and continue to spawn throughout the main game. Simply kill a total of 500 of these enemies and the trophy is yours. The character you use to kill the mummies does not matter. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs, characters, and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 50 Desert bombers with puppet.

This trophy requires you to use the puppet master. Desert bombers are fat guys that carry black bombs with a fuse on top. If they get to a crystal they will drop their bomb doing significant damage. This trophy will be a grind as you have to use the puppet master to get the kills. Unfortunately, you do not unlock the puppet master until 2-1. Once unlocked switch to the puppet master whenever you see a bomber. Then throw your puppet into the bomber’s path and start swinging your arms like a madman. The bombers will pause when hit and after a few hits will die. Simply kill a total of 50 of these enemies and the trophy is yours. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 50 Empire shield soldiers with gunner.

This trophy requires you to use the gunner. The shield soldiers don’t appear until 1-2 on Hard but will be a main enemy on the Empire levels no matter the difficulty. These enemies look like Roman soldiers and can block your attacks. As the gunner you’ll need to either shoot these guys in the back or get around their shields. If you shoot them once they will focus on blocking your attacks for a time before going back to the crystals so it is best to let them pass you and kill them quickly. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 300 enemies with gunner.

This trophy requires you to use the gunner. Simply kill a total of 300 enemies as the gunner. You can use your skill or just normal attacks. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 100 enemies with hammer impact of puppet.

This trophy requires you to use the puppet master. The hammer is held in the puppet’s left hand and to get the impact you’ll want to make a sharp swing down so that the hammer ingame hits the ground performing an AOE attack. The AOE isn’t terribly powerful but can be spammed and used to great effect if there are a lot of enemies near the puppet. Kill a total of 100 enemies in this fashion to get the trophy. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 8 enemies with one puppet skill.

This trophy requires you to use the puppet master. As the puppet master kill enough enemies to make the skill available then allow 8 or more enemies to amass near a crystal. I found 2-1 to be the best place for this but any level will work. Once the enemies are amassed you’ll need to hit them with one swing of your axe and then hit the button on your left controller to use the skill. If done correctly you’ll kill 8 or more enemies and the trophy will pop.

  • Defeat 1000 enemies in total.

Simply kill a total of 1000 enemies. You can use your skill or just normal attacks. You will likely need to replay some levels especially if you didn’t work for the upgraded weapons. The trophy is cumulative across playthroughs, characters, and multiplayer as well.

  • Defeat 100 enemies with droppable item Kill.

The droppable kill item is a purple skull with a sword hitting it. The item will drop on occasion as you kill enemies. For best use you should allow the enemies to build up for a few seconds before hitting the item so that more enemies are killed by it. As with all droppable items in this game these do disappear so don't wait too long to use them.

  • Destroy 50 enemy portals created by summoner.

Summoners first appear on 2-1 and are the wizards wearing the blackdark blue robes. If you let them live long enough they will create summoning portals which allow other enemies to bypass crystals or otherwise traverse the map in a fashion that is out of the ordinary. These portals are stone arches with a purple vortex inside. Simply destroy 50 of these portals to get the trophy. A good place to farm is on 2-1.

  • In singleplayer, earn 3 Stars in Normal in Level 1-1.

This will likely be one of your first trophies as this level is really easy. This is the first level in the game and you just need to ensure that none of crystals are broken. You’ll want to use the 4 towers closest to the big crystal. Simply switch between those towers killing enemies as they spawn. This can be done with any character and even in multiplayer as long as you are solo.

Midlevel, so you should be good to go once you hit 22.

  • In singleplayer, earn 3 Stars in Normal in Level 1-2.

See Statue Breaker for strategy. Once you have completed the level with 3 stars on Normal the trophy will pop. This can be done with any character and even in multiplayer as long as you are solo.

  • In singleplayer, earn 3 Stars in Normal in Level 2-1.

I found this to be the hardest trophy in the game because there are several spots that are hard to see where enemies can basically sneak up on a crystal, combine that with the summoner enemies and this one can be a bit tricky. I found the best option to be using the gunner and constantly teleporting from tower to tower as that is the only way on this level to ensure you can see all the enemies. Your two most used towers will likely be those closest to harbor but you will likely use them all. The good thing here is the wooden man traps can be used to great effect to protect the crystals while you are bouncing around. Don’t let a crystal die and you’ll get the 3 stars. This can be done with any character and even in multiplayer as long as you are solo.

  • In singleplayer, earn 3 Stars in Normal in Level 2-2.

See No pass for strategy. Once you have completed the level with 3 stars on Normal the trophy will pop. This can be done with any character and even in multiplayer as long as you are solo.

Secret trophies

  • Extinguish 22 torches.

All you have to do for this trophy is to shoot or otherwise hit the torches that dot the levels. A good place to grind this out is level 1-1. There are quite a few torches on this level and you can get some from just about any tower. Just move from tower to tower hitting the easily reached torches and continue on with the level. My trophy popped during the level after the 22nd torch was extinguished.

Note: This was glitched prior to the first patch.
